The cleric calls out, "Cease this foolishness! We have no desire to fight you, but your mistress gave us leave to cut down those that stand in our way. Show yourselves."
With that, she casts invisibility purge, creating a sphere with a radius of 65 feet that negates all forms of invisibility.
Damiel Morgathain |
The archer simply readies his bow and waits for an opportunity to use it.
When he can see a demon, if it looks like it starts casting a spell, he's going to shoot it.

Will v. Fog: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (15) + 13 = 28
Arigoder pushes back against the fell magic, drawing Radiance with a quick, practiced motion -- only to see no opponents. He begins to turn his head, listening for the sound of spellcasting -- or their wings -- but smiles as Nasira's spell destroys their invisibility.
How high is the ceiling? Can Arigoder attack, or will he need to use his Aerial Assault ability?
Damiel Morgathain |
Damiel takes one shot.
Point-blank shot, deadly aim: 1d20 + 18 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 18 - 2 = 32
Damage: 1d6 + 12 - 2 ⇒ (6) + 12 - 2 = 16 and Acid: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Arigoder Senari |
Arigoder shakes his head, "Hiding on the ceiling won't save you from the Inheritor's Light," he growls as he releases the power in his blood -- once again to fight off the weakness from the shadows -- and leaps into the air, Radiance leaving a trail of light as he flies, and strikes.
Acrobatics (Jump): 1d20 + 27 ⇒ (8) + 27 = 35
Radiance (Charge): 1d20 + 25 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 25 + 2 = 44 Threat
Confirm: 1d20 + 25 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 25 + 2 = 34 Not sure
Standard Damage: 1d8 + 12 + 12 ⇒ (1) + 12 + 12 = 25 Plus Holy: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 4) = 11
Plus Critical?: 2d8 + 24 ⇒ (5, 6) + 24 = 35
Note: 12 of those are precision, in case the thing is immune... Though, if it's not, would Arigoder be able to use Crippling Strike to make them fall off the ceiling -- as written a "leg" hit makes someone fall prone, but that wouldn't seem to apply to the current circumstances.
Nasira Yusra Abujamal |
Strike off a wing, stop that incessant droning.
DM Variel |
The targeting strike would cause them to be prone but they would still be flying up at the ceiling. It would give them the prone condition but likely not to help you at all since no one is still up at the ceiling threatening them. Let me know if you want to keep the precision damage or make them 'prone'.
Arigoder makes a massive leap up to strike one of the demons. His blade Radiance penetrating the hide of the advanced mythic creature. As he falls back to ground though the demon take the opportunity to bite at him.
bite attack 1d20 + 27 ⇒ (1) + 27 = 28 for 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7 and fort save dc 25 please or take 1d4 ⇒ 1 charisma damage.
The same demon targets Nasira with a dispel magic trying to remove the invisibility purge. For its efforts it gets shot at by Damiel foiling the spell. It then uses its mythic haste to move around away from the mind fog and cast quickened invisibility once again.
concentration 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (2) + 24 = 26
The second demon also casts dispel magic on Nasira this time being successful in the attempt. It then casts quickened invisibility and moves around the room.
1d20 + 16 ⇒ (13) + 16 = 29
Party is up with Ansha being able to see where the demons are at if she so wishes to tell everyone.
Nasira Yusra Abujamal |
"Do we need to kill them? Or shall we simply walk through since they have so thoughtfully gotten out of our way?"
I believe that the original invisibility spells were not dispelled, merely suppressed while my spell was in effect. Casting a new one did nothing for the first demon as my spell was still in effect, so we know where it moved to. Once the second one dispelled the invisibility purge, they both would become invisible again because their original spells went back into effect. So now they are twice as invisible...
Morgrym Ironfist |
Just now realizing he's swinging at nothing, the barbarian throws his hands up in frustration as the demons are far out of his reach. "Blast it all!" He then cuts his attention to Nasira, "Sounds good ta me!" he responds, readily agreeing. "If they ain't gonna come down here and let me kill 'em, then I say we move on."
Nasira Yusra Abujamal |
I was thinking that the bite attack from the aoo and the targeted dispel magic were enough to break the invisibility which is why they had to we cast it.
You are the DM, so you are correct, of course. I was just thinking about the interaction of the spells and ignored their other actions.
Ansha Saeralyan |
"Don't be so quick to throw your lives away. If the Lady in Shadow didn't want to see us, she'd put far tougher opponents than you in our path," Ansha says.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 30 ⇒ (11) + 30 = 41
Subtle Magic Bluff: 1d20 + 32 ⇒ (16) + 32 = 48
Casting haste to counteract their slow effect- should be able to get the whole party. Subtle Magic applies.
Also, for the record, I'm assuming that Ansha's mirror image spell from the last fight is still in effect and that it hasn't been at least 13 minutes from the end of that fight to the beginning of this one.
Nasira Yusra Abujamal |
Nasira moves into the room with the archer, shield ready, watching for one of the demons to approach and make itself known.
Damiel Morgathain |
Unable to see the demons, Damiel considers Nasira's suggestion and moves to the next door and examines it for any unpleasant surprises.
Perception: 1d20 + 27 ⇒ (10) + 27 = 37 (Looking for traps)
DM Variel |
As everyone congregates by the door for Damiel to unlock, the demons act in tandem as one casts mind fog again while the second casts confusion on the party.

Arigoder shakes off the spells and calls on the Inheritor before leaping into the air, bringing Radiance down on the same demon as last time.
Declaring a smite (smite damage doubled on first strike v. evil outsider) and spending a panache to double the precise strike

DM Variel |
Damiel you can already roll for a save as a nat 20 will succeed. And yes still roll for the second mind fog as if one is dispelled the second may still be active on you.
No Morgrym you do not have to power attack
Arigoder I believe the panache point spending and smit evil are both swift actions. Which one do you want?
DM Variel |
Damiel smacks himself in the face with the door as he tries to open the lock that way. Unfortunately, the lock is too complex for that and refuses to budge. Perhaps the blood will lubricate the mechanism for an easier time later. Morgrym gets really worked up about Damiel using his face as lock picks and tries to 'help'. Smashing his earthbreaker into the other side of Damiel, more blood erupts from a broken nose.
Arigoder leaves the 2 to play at the door as he focuses on the flying coloxus in the northern corner of the room. Leaping up he slices the demon deeply. The leap does leave him vulnerable to the demon bite.

Spell Penetration: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (20) + 19 = 39
Casting a Persistent hold monster (DC 29) on the demon in the southern part of the room. Subtle Magic applies. I'll use a mythic point to empower Mythic Spell Focus to force another reroll if he succeeds on the first and second saves.
Also, reupping Shape Emotions again. 3/13 used.
Nasira Yusra Abujamal |
Nasira will move to the held demon, drawing the cold iron outsider-bane longsword as she goes. "You should have let us pass, demon, but your mistress sees you as expendable, so we shall make it so."
Attempting a coup d'grace.

Arigoder Senari |
Fort: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (11) + 17 = 28
Arigoder winces at the strikes, especially the syphoning attack, and takes a moment to ask the Inheritor for aid to heal his wounds, before turning his attention on the demon within his reach.

Arigoder regains 1 panache for the crit, and maybe a second if he killed it - if so, then he's back to full panache.
Damiel Morgathain |
Confusion: 1d100 ⇒ 46
Damiel begins to babble incoherently in apparent indignation that the dwarven rager has chosen to target him, waving his hands about expressively, but absolutely incomprehensible.
Nasira Yusra Abujamal |
Nasira continues to take out her frustration on having to wander this realm of atrocities against decency to get invited only to have one thing after another try to prevent their entry.
Another coup d'grace. At least she's doing damage this way.

Hopefully a 25 cuts it, then.
DM Variel |
CL 13…just made it…
Nasira finishes the paralyzed coloxus while Arigoder has a fun time chopping the demon up into sushi sized bits and then pulverizing them down into a paste. Ansha sees the murderous look Morgrym gives Damiel and snaps her fingers to wake them from the spell. It does seem to work quite as easily as she thought and snaps her fingers again more forcibly using a bit more oomph and inner power. It worked that time and Morgrym and Damiel seem back to their normal if not bloodied selves.
Morgrym Ironfist |
Just as he raises his breaker to smash the ranger into pile of pulp, the barbarian stops in mid-swing and looks curiously upon the situation. Lowering his weapon as he shakes the cobwebs from his previously addled mind, "Glad that's over." He then notices the dead demons. "Dead, huh? Good. Now that that's done, I guess we gotta keep goin', hm? That or turn around and leave and never come back ta this hell hole," he says, resting the breaker upon his shoulder. "See what I did there?" he deadpans, possibly leaving one to wonder if the dwarf was actually attempting to be cleverly funny?
Nasira Yusra Abujamal |
”Once again, Ansha, your arts allow us to persevere. Thank you.” As she cleans the sword to place back in its scabbard, she looks around, ”Is anyone needing healing before we continue? We don’t know how close we are yet.”
Arigoder Senari |
Arigoder takes a moment to catch his breath, feeling especially hollowed out when he releases the power in his blood. He shakes his head, "I'm ok... The Inheritor has tended to my wounds." He sighs, "Still, I can't help but think this isn't so much a test as a gauntlet, and so I'm getting a little worried about what happens at the end."
Ansha Saeralyan |
Ansha practically preens at Nasira's praise. "Only one way to find out," she says in response to Arigoder. The elf advances on the double doors blocking their way, her eyes suddenly taking on a bluish glow as she looks them over (detect magic).
