DM Variel |
Like rats in a sinking ship some of the party flees the room in all different manners. Some go through the door while others jump out of windows. Helgash, Orgar, Cynehelm, and Greta remain though. Helgash casts bless on the party, Greta roars to have everyone get out and close the door, Orgar enchants his blade and Cynehelm takes the opportunity to smack the cloaked creature with 2 admonishing rays.
The creature moves back from Greta provoking an attack of opportunity. As it does so the cloak moves and you can see horned brows, clawed fingers, a mouth full of tentacles and crooked goatish legs covered in hair. Once in position it casts a spell hitting the 4 in the room.
as hypnotic pattern will save DC 17 or fascinated taking no actions till attacked or shook free by an ally (standard action).
The creature in the other room appears by the front double doors by Jetro.
Good guys up for Round 2. Cynehelm and Orgar can ret con their posted actions if they want.
Duardlara Frostborn |
Realizing the others hadn’t come out after all, Duardlara looks back in the window.

Helgash |
Variel, I am sorry man, but I am still confused with the layout - Greta closed the door, so I assume one of the creatures was inside the room with us? How come the creature is now outside? It would have to get past Greta somehow, right? Or is there another exit not evident in the map?
Will Save: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (18) + 14 = 32
"You will not best us with such trickery!" - Helgash roars, and moves to shake Orgar from his fascinated state.
I can change this if the positioning and bad guys actions suffer some adjustment...
Helgash |
But I don't see the cloaked denizen of leng's icon - it is somewhere in the room though, is that it?
DM Variel |
Jetro launches a full volley of arraows at the monstrosity in the doorway. All of her arrows seem to strike the creature as it hissesand recoils from the damage inflicted upon it.
Helgash moves over and slaps some sense into Orgar who blinks his eyes a few times trying to figure out what just happened.
For the knowledge check on the denizen of leng...Defensive Abilities no breath, unusual anatomy; Immune poison; Resist cold 30, electricity 30; SR 19
Orgar |
Round 2 (or 3?)
Coming out of his stupor, thanks to Helgash, Orgar moves up and attacks the nearest enemy (the man from Leng in room A7):
issar (+1 scimitar): 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (13) + 16 = 29
damage: 1d6 + 11 + 1d6 ⇒ (6) + 11 + (4) = 21
issar (+1 scimitar): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (18) + 11 = 29
damage: 1d6 + 11 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + 11 + (6) = 19
issar (to confirm): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17
extra damage, if confirmed: 1d6 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 12
bab +16/+11, damage 1d6+11+1d6 acid, 15-20/x2
• Issar is a +1 cold iron keen scimitar
• He is adding +2 of his +3 bonus to hit and damage
• He is adding the other +1 to adding +1d6 acid damage per attack
• He also gets +5 for the Dervish Dance and +3 for Arcane Strike
• And there's a +1 to hit bonus from Helgash's Bless spell
• Orgar should therefore be +17/+12, 1d6+11+1d6 acid (15-20 x 2 for crits)
@ DM Variel: If I lost round 2's actions due to being fascinated (briefly), that will be my round 3 action.
Unless the situation changes dramatically in a hurry...
Helgash |
It’s the guy with the turban.
Aaaaaaaah, got it. Apologies but he seemed so 'normal' I just assumed it was a character or something :P
DM Variel |
np problems Helgash...I was trying to f8nd a normal person as that is what he was his guises as. Too good of a disguise.
50% fortification check 1d100 ⇒ 92 crit confirmed...
Between the admonishing rays and the lethal blows from Issar the denizen of Leng falls to the ground. However you see that his wounds are quickly knitting themselves back together.
Duardlara Frostborn |
Duardlara, seeing the creature amongst her friends appears to be down, looks up as the new fellow comes around the corner. "They have that one handled, I think. I'm not sure what Jetro is firing at. Shall we go assist?"
She still has her bow readied from when she planned to ambush the ambushers inside.
Staying away from the doorway, she moves through the foliage outside the building and behind Jetro to see what he sees. She readies a shot if the creature that Jetro fired at appears to be casting a spell as that seems to be a thing with whatever these things are.
DM Variel |
Greta ends the life of the Denizen of Leng. However as it still was able to regenerate something strange happens. The body quickly dissolves away leaving its equipment behind. You can almost make out the trace of a cloud like shape rise in the air before it disappears into nothing as it returns to the world in which it came from.
Duardlara moves over to give Jetro some support. She sees the creature at the doorway as well but refrains from firing just yet as she attempts to thwart any spellcasting it may be doing.
Duardlara take your readied attack and a will save please
You realize belatedly that your arrow punches through nothing but a figment or illusion. The real threat is the creature behind it!
The creature does indeed begin to act like it is casting a spell as Duardlara fires her bow at it. From behind the creature exits another one of the hideous things from another doorway.
Please makea DC 22 will save or you are dominated and mentally told to attack your former companions. As this goes against your ethics you will get a second save as well at the same DC.
Good guys up and map updated
Orgar |
Round 3
Satisfied that Greta has the first Leng denizen well taken care of, Orgar just says "Good time to look for the other one."
And with that he casts a spell on himself: « დიდი უხილავი » . . "greater invisibility", in draconic
He promptly vanishes and goes looking for the other Leng creature.

Spellcraft: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (5) + 15 = 20 to realize the sudden change of heart might be magical
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17 to realize he's not in control
Don't think that's going to cut it.
"Manos, help me subdue Jetro!"
Manos Tavore |
Feeling like he's a book behind in the trilogy Manos moves to flank Jetro with Duardlara. Swinging his rapier hilt first at the bewitched mans head in an effort to knock him out, or knock some sense into him?
Rapier - Non-lethal + flanking: 1d20 + 13 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 13 - 2 + 2 = 26
damage + Sneak attack if it applies?: 1d6 + 4 + 5d6 ⇒ (5) + 4 + (6, 1, 5, 1, 3) = 25
DM Variel |
Duardlara you know something is up as there is no way that Jetro would attack you like that. Even though you may not know the spell itself you know that it has to be something magical that happened.
Greta moves up and tries to slice heavily into the abomination floating in the air before her. Yet its mere presence is disturbing to her and she cant bring the blade around accurately to strike a solid blow.
Duardlara calls for back up and Manos quickly springs into action. However he is not able to land the perfect blow with the rapier doing subdual damage and thus Jetro only takes the normal 9 subdual damage.
Had to look that one up but sneak attack does not apply to subdual attacks using a weapon like that. In order to get sneak off you need to use the weapon as intended. Need to get yourself a sap.
Orgar disappears and goes looking for the creature. Yet as he approaches he sees that he creature looks at him directly and knows he is there.
Helgash and Cynehelm to go. If not by tomorrow will bot them.
Helgash |
Helgash moves closer and delays until after the creatures.
Cynehelm of Orlov |
Bit confused. There appear to be two brimoraks on the map. What do they represent?
There's two of them? I didn't know that.
Duardlara Frostborn |
For those that haven't seen what transpired outside, Duardlara shouts, "Something's spellbound Jetro! He's shooting at me!"
Orgar |
Round 4
Somewhat annoyed that there are (apparently) two Leng denizens, Orgar steps up the the on further in the hallway and slashes at that one using Issar, and also tries burning him/it with a pool strike (fire damage):
issar (+1 scimitar): 1d20 + 17 - 2 ⇒ (4) + 17 - 2 = 19
damage: 1d6 + 11 + 1d6 ⇒ (5) + 11 + (1) = 17
issar (+1 scimitar): 1d20 + 12 - 2 ⇒ (2) + 12 - 2 = 12
damage: 1d6 + 11 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + 11 + (2) = 14
pool strike: 1d20 + 15 - 2 ⇒ (12) + 15 - 2 = 25
fire damage: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 5, 3) = 12
• Issar is a +1 cold iron keen scimitar
• He is adding +2 of his +3 bonus to hit and damage
• He is adding the other +1 to adding +1d6 acid damage per attack
• He also gets +5 for the Dervish Dance and +3 damage for Arcane Strike
• And there's a +1 to hit bonus from Helgash's Bless spell
• With Issar: +15/+110, 1d6+11+1d6 acid (15-20 x 2 for crits)
• Pool Strike: +15 melee touch attack and 4d6 fire damage
• And -2 to hit for the lot while using Spell Combat
Duardlara Frostborn |
Helgash, is D'lara currently linked to you for healing goodness? Is she close enough to benefit from it if she is?
EDIT: I guess she's in range, but I'm not sure she's currently linked, so I won't apply any healing yet.
Cynehelm of Orlov |
Cynehelm steps into the hallway and blasts one of the Leng denizens (the one to the right).
Intensified Burning Hands (Ref half, DC 16): 10d4 + 20 ⇒ (4, 1, 1, 3, 3, 2, 2, 4, 1, 2) + 20 = 43
Manos Tavore |
A shame I don't get the Sneak attack on the damage. It's going to be a lot of work to Knock Jetro out at this rate. I knew I'd forgotten something when I couldn't see a Sap on my sheet. :(
On his action Manos will continue trying to put Jetro to sleep the old fashioned way.
Non-lethal attack + Flanking: 1d20 + 13 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 13 - 2 + 2 = 24
Non-lethal attack + Flanking: 1d20 + 8 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 8 - 2 + 2 = 26
Non-lethal attack + Flanking Crit confirm?: 1d20 + 8 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 8 - 2 + 2 = 20
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Crit Damage: 2d6 + 8 ⇒ (1, 4) + 8 = 13
Jetro Clampett |
O, that this too too solid flesh would melt, Thaw and resolve itself into a dew! Or that the Everlasting had not fix'd His canon against self-slaughter! O God! God! How weary, stale, flat and unprofitable, Seem to me all the uses of this world! Fie on't, ah fie, 'tis an unweeded garden, That grows to seed; things rank and gross in nature Possess it merely. That it should come to this! But two months dead, nay not so much, not two, So excellent a king, that was, to this Hyperion to a satyr, so loving to my mother That he might not beteem the wings of heaven Visit her face too roughly. Heaven and earth, Must I remember? Why, she would hang on him, As if the increase of appetite had grown By what it fed on; and yet within a month - Let me think not on't; frailty, thy name is woman - A little month, or ere these shoes were old With which she followed my poor father's body Like Niobe, all tears, why she, even she - O God, a beast that wants discourse of reason Would have mourned longer - married with my uncle, My father's brother, but no more like my father Than I to Hercules. Within a month, Ere yet the salt of most unrighteous tears Had left the flushing in her gall'd eyes, She married. O, most wicked speed, to post With such dexterity to incestuous sheets! It is not, nor it cannot come to good. But break my heart, for I must hold my tongue.
Duardlara Frostborn |
"Now I know he's not in control of his faculties."
Duardlara drops her bow and begins to pummel the archer, trying to knock him out.
Manos, hit him with lethal force now that you've moved his unconscious threshold down with nonlethal attacks. Duardlara will try to help by continued nonlethal attacks.
Bow in her off hand, the elven woman draws the magical short sword and tries to hit the archer with the hilt to knock him out.
Non-lethal attack: 1d20 + 9 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (14) + 9 + 2 - 4 = 21 Flanking, non-lethal penalty
Non-lethal damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1 Oh, man!
DM Variel |
So have been on call the last 48 hrs and haven’t had a chance to adjust map for a good post.
Cynehelm blast the unknown creature with fire as it stands there looking blankly at him.
You know this is an illusion and not a real creature
The creature closest to the door stands there in awe while the one in the back steps back and casts a spell upon Orgar.
Round 4...but needing some saves first
Manos Tavore |
"Travel to strange new lands. Meet interesting people, and then stab them in the back!" Manos nods as Duardlara gives him the word to murder her team mate.
Attack + Flanking: 1d20 + 13 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 13 + 2 = 16
Attack + Flanking: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 8 + 2 = 21
Damage + SA: 1d6 + 4 + 5d6 ⇒ (2) + 4 + (1, 4, 4, 1, 4) = 20
"I hope you realize this is for your own good? That was some appalling overacting." He adds critically.
