DM Variel |
Cynehelm...you are to babble incoherently, not bring up old memories of your past! lol
Manos remembers that the creatures seemed to spy on them even when hidden and forgoes the delay in the hope that piling on the damage while he still can.
Ranged pistol +1 +13/+8 (1d8+2/x4), within 30 ft. +14/+9 (1d8+2)
1d20 + 14 ⇒ (16) + 14 = 30 for 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15 for 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Manos first shot leaves a nice smoking hole in the creature but his second shot flies wide of the mark.
The creature tries to cast another spell on Duardlara and Manos in the back hoping it can concentrate enough to get past Greta's whirling greatsword.
concentration 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (7) + 12 = 19 Unfortunately for it but highly beneficial for the party the spell fizzles as it is too worried about the greatsword to get the spell off.
Good guys up...go ahead and roll your own confusion checks Greta, Helgash, Cynehelm and Orgar!
Orgar |
is I confused?: 1d100 ⇒ 13 ... 01–25 Act normally Muahahaha!
Round 8 ... I think; it's all a blur
Orgar snaps out the confusion long enough to come after the Leng denizen, with murderous intent:
issar (+1 scimitar): 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (8) + 17 = 25
damage: 1d6 + 11 + 1d6 ⇒ (6) + 11 + (3) = 20
issar (+1 scimitar): 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (14) + 12 = 26
damage: 1d6 + 11 + 1d6 ⇒ (5) + 11 + (4) = 20
bab +17/+12, damage 1d6+11+1d6 acid, 15-20/x2
• Issar is a +1 cold iron keen scimitar
• He is adding +2 of his +3 bonus to hit and damage
• He is adding the other +1 to adding +1d6 acid damage per attack
• He also gets +5 for the Dervish Dance and +3 damage for Arcane Strike
• And there's a +1 to hit bonus from Helgash's Bless spell
Duardlara Frostborn |
Assuming Manos fired from his previous position beside me, he still gets the vanish treatment, then Duardlara will move into the hallway. I will move her when I get back to my computer.
DM Variel |
Organ steps up and under the compulsion of the creature lays into Cynehelm. The blows land hard into the confused cleric as all he can do is stand there and babble incoherently. Duardlara cast vanish on Manos who promptly fires again at the thing...
2d20 ⇒ (16, 13) = 29 both hit for 2d8 + 6 ⇒ (1, 4) + 6 = 11
Greta or Helgash? need confusion rolls from each and if able to act normal AC 25 with 23 hp left on the big bad guy.
Cynehelm of Orlov |
as all he can do is stand there and babble incoherently.
From this moment on, however, the spell forces me into combat with Orgar until one of us is dead or unconscious.
Duardlara Frostborn |
Organ steps up and under the compulsion of the creature lays into Cynehelm. The blows land hard into the confused cleric as all he can do is stand there and babble incoherently. Duardlara cast vanish on Manos who promptly fires again at the thing...
2d20 both hit for 2d8+6
Greta or Helgash? need confusion rolls from each and if able to act normal AC 25 with 23 hp left on the big bad guy.
Would Manos really waste the spell like that? He seems more savvy than that. At least until we confirm BBEG can see the invisible characters...
Helgash |
Helgash confusion: 1d100 ⇒ 70
Helgash fumbles with his weapon, and accidentaly cuts himself in one leg.
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
DM Variel |
Helgash raises his longsword as he prepares to advance and slam it into the moon-beast. Then it almost falls from his grasp as he fumbles for it cutting himself in the process.
Greta gets a wild look in her eyes as she is determined to attack the closest creature to her. Smelling blood in the air she turns on Helgash and strikes him once with her greatsword locking them into confused mortal combat!
Helgash:1 Moon Beast:21d2 ⇒ 1
The moon beast laughs silently as its mental machinations are working to undermine everyone. To add to the fun it notices Duardlara and Manos at the entrance and tries to cut them off by casting a wall of fire upon them!
This is actually a shadow evocation spell that mimics an evocation spell. Thus the fire wall is only partially there meaning you take only 1/5 the damage.
This is actually a shadow evocation spell that mimics an evocation spell. Thus the fire wall is only partially there meaning you take only 1/5 the damage.
damage from wall of fire 2d6 + 11 ⇒ (4, 3) + 11 = 18
Good guys up with a few checks from Manos and Duardlara. A confusion check from Cynehelm and Orgar. Good luck all...if you survive this we are at the end of the first part of book 4!
Duardlara Frostborn |
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (10) + 15 = 25
Will DC 22: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
Shouldn't there also be a Reflex save against the wall of fire? Where is the wall of fire placed on the map?
Duardlara Frostborn |
The invisible trickster shares with her new ally, "The fire is not truly real. Let's see if we can take the fight directly to the monster. You take him head-on and I will circle around behind. Give me a five count..."
Manos' Will save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Short sword in hand, Duardlara double-moves down the hall, avoiding her allies in their confused combats, and comes up behind the creature.
Acrobatics to avoid AoO: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (12) + 14 = 26
Shaking his head at what he's apparently gotten himself into, Manos switches his pistol to his other hand, takes up his adamantine rapier with the first, and glides into the room, intent on seeing the creature bleed.
Acrobatics if necessary: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (11) + 16 = 27
He attacks with the sword, either with benefit of invisibility or benefit of flanking with Duardlara, obviously depending on whether the creature can see invisibility or not. Once upon a time, an invisible attacker gained a +2 to their attack, but I don't remember if Pathfinder kept that bonus. Just in case, it is not included here.
Rapier attack: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (14) + 13 = 27 (+2 if flanking applies)
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Sneak Attack Damage: 5d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 6, 6, 6) = 22
Greta Silvermane |
Sigh...
Greta attacks Helgash.
Greatsword +1: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (6) + 16 = 22 Hit

Greatsword +1: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18Miss

Helgash steps back and attacks Greta.

Damage if it hits: 2d6 + 17 ⇒ (2, 1) + 17 = 20
Greatsword +1: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13Miss
Damage if it hits: 2d6 + 17 ⇒ (2, 1) + 17 = 20
My rolls are still amazing.
DM Variel |
AS Duardlara moves forward to circle around the moon beast she is startled to see a claw whip out at her invisible form.
AOO 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (17) + 15 = 32 for 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Suffering the hit she is still able to make it around to flank the creature.
Manos then moves up to it and strikes out with his rapier. The blade finds purchase in the creature but the unknown anatomy makes it impossible to land a more telling blow. Immune to crit and precision based damage
Greta and Helgash trade blows, or better swings at each other as they pretty much decide not to inflict any damage on the other except once on Helgash.
Cynehelm and Orgar still up
Cynehelm of Orlov |
Spin the Wheel of Wackiness: 1d100 ⇒ 91 Attack nearest creature.
Since Orgar is invisible, the nearest visible foe is Helgash. How do you want to adjudicate "attack"? Am I drawing my scimitar? Beating him with my fists like Mr. Burns ineffectually beating Smithers? Or blasting him out of his boots with a fire spell?
Helgash |
Helgash steps back and attacks Greta.
Bardiche: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (5) + 12 = 17
Damage if it hits: 1d10 + 15 ⇒ (10) + 15 = 25
Bardiche: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
Damage if it hits: 1d10 + 15 ⇒ (7) + 15 = 22
Greta steps forward and attacks Helgash.
Greatsword +1: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (16) + 16 = 32
Damage if it hits: 2d6 + 17 ⇒ (1, 1) + 17 = 19
Greatsword +1: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
Damage if it hits: 2d6 + 17 ⇒ (3, 5) + 17 = 25
Helgash is at 50HP, Greta is at 66.
Helgash |
You're right - since Cynehelm is also in a loop I jumped the gun. Sorry :P
Cynehelm of Orlov |
Round and 'round she goes!
It's (thankfully) a little tight in here for an empowered fireball, and summoning a monster doesn't seem to fit into the spirit of confusion, so...
Casting Defensively (DC 19): 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (11) + 13 = 24
Admonishing ray on Helgash: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22 <-- vs. Touch AC
Admonishing Ray non-lethal damage: 4d6 + 4 ⇒ (1, 5, 1, 1) + 4 = 12
Orgar |
Orgar..while true you are not confused you are still dominated and told to go after Cynehelm. Mwahaha
rats!
Round 10
Orgar, still not in control of himself, attacks Cynehelm (again):
issar (+1 scimitar): 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (10) + 17 = 27
damage: 1d6 + 11 + 1d6 ⇒ (5) + 11 + (6) = 22
issar (+1 scimitar): 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 27
damage: 1d6 + 11 + 1d6 ⇒ (6) + 11 + (6) = 23
bab +17/+12, damage 1d6+11+1d6 acid, 15-20/x2
• Issar is a +1 cold iron keen scimitar
• He is adding +2 of his +3 bonus to hit and damage
• He is adding the other +1 to adding +1d6 acid damage per attack
• He also gets +5 for the Dervish Dance and +3 damage for Arcane Strike
• And there's a +1 to hit bonus from Helgash's Bless spell
@ DM Variel: If this is round 10, then my eldritch pool effects should stop as of round 11?
And my Greater Invisibility should end soon too, shouldn't it? (1 round/level)
Cynehelm of Orlov |
Sadly, Cynehelm has now shuffled off this mortal coil and gone to meet Sarenrae. He has taken 85 points of damage, leaving him at -18. His Con score is only 13.
Cynehelm of Orlov |
DM Variel |
Don't worry there is a built in way to resurrect 1 person after this fight...Lets just hope that there is only 1 death.
The moon-beast excitedly sees one member of the team fall and looks forward to another 1 going down. Hopefully that member is not Orgar as it has many plans and uses for the dominated man thing. It does direct the man thing telepathically to try and take out Helgash however. This means that it can focus its attacks on Manos!
claw attacks 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (20) + 15 = 35 for 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
crit confirm 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (1) + 15 = 16 for 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10 no crit
claw 2 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (5) + 15 = 20 for 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11 miss
tentacle attacks...
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19 for 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9 miss
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14 for 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7 miss
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21 for 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9 miss
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30 for 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5 hit
Orgar you get another save at +2 as you would not normally attack Helgash. Helgash Cynehelm attacked you last but since he is fallen you technically get to roll again on the confusion chart before Greta attacks you. Good guys up!
Helgash |
Confusion roll: 1d100 ⇒ 68
Again Helgash fumbles with his weapon, dealing 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8 damage to himself.
Helgash is at 42 HP.
Greta steps forward and attacks Helgash.
Greatsword +1: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (2) + 16 = 18
Damage if it hits: 2d6 + 17 ⇒ (4, 4) + 17 = 25
Greatsword +1: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
Damage if it hits: 2d6 + 17 ⇒ (3, 5) + 17 = 25
Greatsword +1 is it a CRIT: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
Additional damage if it is: 2d6 + 17 ⇒ (3, 2) + 17 = 22
Helgash is at 17HP (12 non lethal) and Greta is at 66HP.
Duardlara Frostborn |
I assume not, but we need everything we can get - does the command to Orgar provoke attacks of opportunity?
Duardlara Frostborn |
Duardlara states what is already obvious to the human rogue, "Engaging it up close doesn't look like a successful strategy!" Manos nods and feints as though pressing his attack, but dives to the side in an attempt to get past the monster.
Acrobatics to avoid AoO: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (5) + 16 = 21
As he rolls, he lets go of his rapier in favor of the pistol, drawing it as he moves and reloading it. I'm not familiar with the firearm rules, but I presume that will require a second action this round. If he can attack, he will.
Likewise, Duardlara backs away from the creature to have room to cast a spell. 10' back Looking down the hall, she continues a debate that has raged in the back of her mind for several seconds, but she makes her decision. Weaving a spell to nullify magic, she targets Greta. Casting dispel magic to remove the confusion effect.
Caster level check vs. confusion: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23
DM Variel |
Duardlara moves back and casts a spell removing the debilitating confusion effect that is causing so much havoc.
AOO claw 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (6) + 15 = 21 for 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
I believe you are correct in it would take another action to load.
The moon beast, enraged at Duardlara’s meddling, turns to her and fully attacks her with tentacles and claws until she drops. Then he focuses on Manos.
Claw 1 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (17) + 15 = 32 for 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11 hit
Claw 2 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (4) + 15 = 19 for 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11 hit
Tentacle 1 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28 for 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5 hit and drops Duardlara unconscious
Tentacle 2 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20 for 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9 miss Manos
Tentacle 3 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28 for 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8hit Manos
Tentacle 4 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21 for 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5 miss Manos
Good guys up!
Greta Silvermane |
Thanks Lara! I will try ;)
With a primal grunt, Greta moves away from Helgash, and engages the monstrosity - "You will pay for this..."
Greatsword +1: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (20) + 16 = 36
Damage if it hits: 4d6 + 17 ⇒ (4, 3, 1, 5) + 17 = 30
Could this be a crit?: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (7) + 16 = 23
Additional damage if it is: 2d6 + 17 ⇒ (3, 2) + 17 = 22
Helgash |
With a nod at Greta to make sure their foes are definitely dead, Helgash urgently steps amidst his companions, and channels holy healing power - "Stand fast brothers, the light of Iomedae will assist us"
Channel 1: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 1) = 3
Channel 2: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 1) = 4
Sigh...
Channel 3: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 6) = 11
He then moves to check on Cynehelm.
Is Cynehelm beyond our powers? Unfortunately Helgash cannot raise the dead...
EDIT: Wait! If we are still confused... :D
Duardlara Frostborn |
Combat Reflexes, too? That thing is (was?) brutal! Well done, Greta! How long do the magical mind-tricks last? Are we going to be running from confused allies for a while yet? Well, not D'lara, but are other, more upright, folks going to have to?
EDIT: I think I was conflating the different AoO from different rounds. I was distracted by thoughts of what D'lara's replacement character might be...
DM Variel |
the confusion was dispelled...Orgar and Jetro are still dominated but without someone to direct them we can just hand wave the duration to not worry about it. Duardlara and Jetro are conscious nowas well.
Looting the corpses you see that moon-beast possesses an eye of the void (Ultimate Equipment 296) and the denizen of Leng carries a pouch of gems containing 15 small rubies worth 150 gp each and a single larger ruby worth 6,000 gp. A small, moving humanoid figure is visible inside the large ruby, as if it were trapped inside the gem.
