Fem Elf Bard 3

At the gentle prodding Sunset jumps slightly, the lure of pending mystery's hold broken. She glances at Desidera and nods, a slight blush to her cheeks, as she falls back into line with the group. Above her head, Sunset's little ball of spell light bobs along.

Male Gnome Sorcerer 3

"Come Sunset, we have not the time to investigate every room. We must find the way down to the grand forges as quickly as possible."

Gloisil continues down the hallway that they had been walking down.

Fem Elf Bard 3

Sunset hangs her head slightly at Gloisil's admonition and nods,

"Aye, sorry...I...I jus'...y'know when ye come t' somat whut's all mysterious...? She replies quietly, giving the yawning portal one last glance before hefting her x-bow and turning her eyes to look onwards at the parties direction of travel.

Perception:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21

Male Human (Britonian/Azurin) Earthblood Knight/2

Elsdyn pauses from moving down the hallway and glances back at the group as they pause at the room. Unable to hide a smile he briefly ponders whether Sunrise would be more fitting a name to Sunset...

As they start moving again, so does Elsdyn, cautious and wary of what lies ahead, but in good spirits.

Silver Crusade

Gyldyr silently thanks the lords of Chaos that Sunset didn't drag them all into the suspicious antechamber.

Does the party go down the hall past the coal; oil; forges; smelter and such?

Fem Elf Bard 3

Yes...? >_>

Silver Crusade

m drow Ranger 1

Yes.

Male Gnome Sorcerer 3

Yes

Male Efreeti, advanced manthing 45HD

Ok; the party continues down the hall; an is now passing a woodcrafting area; large room for lumber storage; a small lumber mill; and carpendry area as well as such things as for cabinetry or other fine woodcrafts. This area of the hall continues for approximately another 500 ft; if the party sticks to the center.

ahead, the hall can be seen to angle sharply at 45 degrees to the parties left and what is apparently dwarf homes; probably for the craftsmen and traders in this area; begin.

About 50ft before the angle in the hall, on the right side begins another wide hallway; where great groaning; whooshing, and other machinery can be heard. It is not overly loud and you can speak normally.

so the party can:
continue down the man hall following the angle.
explore any shops, houses, or work areas.
change direction and head toward the machinery noises.

what does the party do; no overt threats can be seen at this time.

Male Gnome Sorcerer 3

Gloisil wonders which way would be more likely to have a way down to the lower levels. Either or both seems plausible to him, and because he has not spent any time working with the dwarfs, he has no knowledge of their city planning.

"Well which way should we go friends, I reckon that both directions are equally likely to lead to a way down to the lower levels. I'm willing to accept any suggestions at this point."

If no one has an opinion on which way to go, Gloisil will turn right and head toward the machinery noises, else he will follow the choice of the majority.

Silver Crusade

m drow Ranger 1

Gyldyr shrugs. "I really have no suggestions."

Fem Elf Bard 3

Sunset pauses and ponders.

"Well, the last time we heard a' noise o' gears an' stuff, we found a room whut were safe an' all. Plus, th' machinery needed a mite o' tenderin'. Maybe we should, kind'a, stick t' doin' that norm'?" She suggests. Though, also, perhaps the sound of the machinery has sparked her curiosity more than the rooms around them.

Male Human (Britonian/Azurin) Earthblood Knight/2

Elsdyn considers each direction carefully.

"The main was likely the path the goblin army followed initially. The goblin's main host would still be down that way, I believe. Without scouts, I think it would be the most dangerous to head in that direction. Likely the other ways are not unguarded and perhaps more dangerous creatures lie in wait there, but I think we are better suited to take that path than engage the main force."

Glancing at Sunset.

"The machine room would hide the sound of our movement and perhaps there are accesses to other levels there. It seems a worthy direction to pursue"

Male Gnome Sorcerer 3

Gloisil considers the opinions of those who have spoken and nods in agreement at Elsdyn's comments.

"Well it sounds as if we head for the sound of machinery. I am somewhat glad for that decision, for I feared what grizzly sights we would see in the homes of the dwarf families."

Gloisil then turns to the right and begins moving down the side passage towards the machinery sounds. He and his owl checking the new passageway for anything of interest or danger.

Silver Crusade

m drow Ranger 1

Well. Apparently I was reading my spellbook.

Desidera die not say much, since she did not have anything to add in the conversation, nor did she know much about their surroundings. She was the one that was going to keep them up when they got wounded, but she did not put herself into dark, underground places enough to know much more than her immediate surroundings and in this case, little of that. At least it was not as bad as it was when she first got down here, though that thought unsettled her.

Perhaps they would encounter some survivors?

Silver Crusade

m drow Ranger 1

"Why did you leave the surface to join this... quest?" Gyldyr asks Desidera abruptly, still flipping through his spellbook. Odd as it was, the silence was getting on his nerves, and he had to return to the surface sometime. He might as well learn some more about it before that.

Desidera looked to Gyldyr with a bit of a dubious expression that she could not quite hide, surprised that he would deign to speak to her, let alone ask a question of her. As such, she paused a few seconds before she spoke, eyes on him the whole time.

"A Kirin brought me to the group", she responded quietly. "I had lost my guards one by one to the beasts and the surroundings. I was likely not far from dying myself, when it appeared and charged me with a task." There was a slight bit of awe in her voice, and she smiled slightly at the memory. "I accepted, of course."

Looking at Gyldyr, she seemed mildly curious. "Did you have something similar?"

Fem Elf Bard 3

Sunset watches the interaction between Desidera and Gyldyr silently. Though her large blue eyes almost seem aglow with curiosity.

Male Gnome Sorcerer 3

Gloisil listens quietly to the conversation between Desidera and Gyldyr. He too would like to know the dark elf's reason for being here as well, but Gloisil wasn't going to press him into telling what his reasons were, at least not at this point.

Silver Crusade

m drow Ranger 1

"A kirin?" He let some of his surprise show in his voice.
Making an assumption about kirin in this homebrew..
He gave a small nod of respect to Desidera. "Well, it's a relief to hear that one in our group is so favored. No, I entered this mission through pure luck- or lack thereof. I wasn't directed by anything (common sense least of all); I'm afraid my presence here is meaningless. You had guards- do you hold a position of authority upon the surface, perhaps within a church?"
Gyldyr can be sociable when it suits him.

Male Efreeti, advanced manthing 45HD

What peeps basically know about Kirin; they are direct servants of some dieties; they are typically of the messanger sort and have the power to take a message anywhere; to anyone and very few things can slow them down or stop them. They have been known to summon angelic hosts and other beings of good when their mission is threatened. They are often the bringers of prophesy and then safeguarding that prophesy until it reaches all those it needs to reach. This is true on any of my worlds in any timeline in this game.

Mox "whasa Kirin?"

Kurg: "it be a Rainbow Horse, Mox. Look see, there be these three prophesies; roads of the future like and Shiite, they at war wit each other; each has a champion; dis Kirin is one of dem Champions. Now da Ork n sheiot, we was on de utter side; wit dee utter Prophesy; way ya'll n Sit call Dark Prophesy. Now High Priest Balfic Graah; the Bit Shitts dey had a meetin down in Big Town; down South. So Balfic tells em he gots all three Phrophesies; ans dee only one dat gets all de orks; gobbies and kin all deader n dried shiite on a stick; is any but the one we'zz all followin. Den he says we all gots ta stop fighin da elf; who be are Kin too; like Cousins, and furthermore (with a lot of beer); ally wit em and fight the Big Bad. So; you all can guess; Dis was a Big Barrel of Shiite with lot of knives and yellin. But ol Balfic, he thundered out Test O Faith; since it was da other Big Shiite Priests doing the loudest yellin. Furthermore, the Dwarf 'ero n Priest Kojan was wit him and bunch other 'eros; and for bout three days kojan and Balfic's cousin "Ugmar Bigger than you Boss" had been deep in "discussion". When Balfic challenged the Ork Priesthood to challenge of faith; well, dey stopped discussin to get a Big Beer and watch; having a great measure of respect for each other. So, the Priests and Balific discussed the issue; and after the priests were dead; and Ugmar gave the nod; we changed sides following Balfic da Priest o the Dark God. So lot of us Ork were chained to the side of Da Man! and We Hates Da Man! ,but the Man will grind your bones to powder for his bread and sup from a cup of your blood; so we sullen in our anger. But Balfic; he's got kin wit our band; and he don'ts forgets NO KIN. So he send us some Champions and his Personal Guardian; the Muther of all Shiite Dark to emancipate us and break some arms and noses of our captors and spit at DA MAN, (he whispers: "from a distance") so since we all Believes and change our 'earts to change our Forune" Da Dark God blesses us and we become Dark. So the Muther; she/he says Defend Dwarfhome from the Scourge. Now the closes Dwarfhome is Kojan home; and besieged above and below for an Orks age. So the Mutter births out a Shadow Dragon to lead us; and we breaks the surface siege. haha ;spit in DA MAN's cold eye. DA MAN will come kill us fur sure unless we do some things fast; so some Big Boys get sent to this Dwarfhome to "follow orders" and protect Dwarfhome, I got attached to baggage train; but every Ork knows his Duty. So I here on Orders; Scout Dwarfhome; and bring the Seal back to "Da Short List"

now word has it; DA MAN has a Drow Wizzy whiperin in his ear; but then Balfic is deep in shorts wit one two; and De Emporer says da elves is like all one happy family; so I gots no opinion if dis here Dark Elf.

Mox "so; whas a Kirin? a colored horse beer you say?"

Male Efreeti, advanced manthing 45HD

ok; does the Party have a direction; we havent heard from our Dwarf player in a bit; he would have some insight here.

Silver Crusade

m drow Ranger 1

Through the machinery room and down, I think.

Desidera shook her head after Mox and Kurg finished their explanation. "My family might have been what some would call 'noble', if some count nobility by what they may be able to influence. I just helped to make sure that those who hurt were able to heal." She essayed a soft smile. "Everything else I do is with the aid of Apollo."

While she spoke, she could not help but try to see anything in the darkness that was past the door that they were in front of, despite the light from the lantern only carrying far enough to tell that there was much more to the room beyond its light. Sighing softly, she looked at everyone else, then back into the room with a resolute expression. They'd come this far, they could not turn around, so they might as well continue onward..

Male Efreeti, advanced manthing 45HD

assuming the party goes down the hall toward the machine noises, please confirm, the hall goes 120ft and the party sees nothing; this hall is barren and strangly empty except for the enormous noise of a huge heave and puff of some machine;

listen 15

Spoiler:

sounds like 3 heaves and 3 puffs but at staggered intervals

listen 20
Spoiler:

the one heave and puff comes from the right; the left; and straight ahead timed in a sequence for constant draw and blow.

at the 120ft mark; it is so loud as talking even with yelling is nigh impossible. Staying here long will leave those without ear protection; deaf for some time. Those with full helmets that cover the ears are somewhat protected; but other measures should probably be taken.

any unprotected flames the party has would be dancing around a bit and somewhat brigher; laterns are protects to only a faint flicker would be noticed.

This hallways has conflicting hot spots and cold pockets of air as it is oddly mixed.

What does the party do? Ahead in the distance can be seen two large doors that look once smashed then shoddily repaired; the hall continues on a bit and those with exceptional dark sight over 60' can see further.

for those who see further
[spoiler]
the hall ends with a door at the end as well; total of three doors; once once smashed and shoddily repaired.

Gyldyr looked faintly bemused for a moment. So she is a noble. Or close enough. I think. But her rank as a loyal (and favored) member of her church, or at least servant of her god, overshadows that. I think.

Fem Elf Bard 3

Sunset listens intently to her friend's words. Then, as Desidera shines her lantern light upon the doorway Sunset pushes her little floating globe of glimmer ahead as well, to help illuminate her friends curiosity.

"Dun't worry none. When we've time, I'll be more'n happy t' tell ye abouts my kith an' kin." Sunset smiles, trying to help her friend regain her spirits some.

Perception:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19

"Hmmm...now I do wonder whut be makin' that sound. A big bellows type o' thing, d'ye reckon?" She part muses and part asks.

EDIT: Sunset follows through with the others. When the noise becomes thunderously loud she quickens her pace and skips through, hands defensively over her ears.

Male Gnome Sorcerer 3

As the sound of the machinery gets almost unbearable, Gloisil hurries past and further down the hall. He doesn't bother speaking as he realizes that the other probably will not hear him. Gloisil just waves everyone on indicating that they should continue down the hallway.

As they move through the area where the air has hot and cold spots, he wonders briefly about it, but then quickly continues on to get away from the noise.

Sovereign Court

M Halfling Rogue

Koridur follows closely behind Gloisil. Ready at all times for an attack. He thinks to himself "We must find this box... and fast. The goblins above can't be held off for long. They'll be swarming this place in a matter of days." His attention is easily diverted to any quick motions or odd sounds.

Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 (That's +2 more to notice any unusual stonework)

The loud noises coming from the machinery would easily drown out any other sounds from possible enemies... and that makes him very uncomfortable.

Silver Crusade

m drow Ranger 1

About halfway through the room, Gyldyr covers his ears to try and block out some of the uncomfortably loud noise.

Listen1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

Desidera was frowning more and more the closer they got to the machines. She could make out little distinction from them, and as it grew louder, had her hand and an arm over her ears, covering them as best she could manage while still holding the lantern.. 'Perhaps this is why many dwarves are as loud as any three people', she thought to herself. It sure explained a lot if it was true.

At its loudest, she could not make out the voices of the others, and was not that adroit at reading lips, so she shook her head at any of them that looked as if they were looking in her direction and talking. The noise curbed her curiosity at the machines, longing for the other, quieter, end.

Male Efreeti, advanced manthing 45HD

Ok; the hall with all the noise coming from it ends in three doors; one at the end of the halled centered; and one on each side of the hall about 30' back from the door at the end of the hall.

What does the party do?

Silver Crusade

Gyldyr gestures towards the door at the end of the hall, not trusting the others to be able to hear him over the noise.

With no leads other than instinct, Koridur attempts to open the door Gyldyr gestured towards.

Here goes nothing'.... Please no traps, please no traps...

Elsdyn pauses a moment in moving down the hallway to adjust his helmet as the noise increases. He frowns a bit as he is sure his companions are getting the worst of sound. Glancing back he sees they are all still moving forward and his frown turns into a smile. It was a good group the Lady led to him.

As Koridur moves to open the door, Elsdyn bumps him with his shield to get his attention then holds his hand up in a 'wait/stop' signal.

He then positions himself to the side of the door, opposite of any hinges, back against the wall so he can also see the other doors down the hallway. He motions for the rest of the group to move to the side he is on. Once satisfied, he gives a firm nod followed by a 'ready' signal to Koridur.

Male Efreeti, advanced manthing 45HD

After the group, minus Sunset who is skipping to look at another door, is set to open the door. The door is opened to reveal a ghastly sound of machinery and a huge pump that raises and lowers like a giant accordian. The wind pump seems to be somewhat affectively pumping fresh air from outside down the the chambers below, but...the thick leather and canvas has been torn and damaged; some of the steel rods from the pistons have been scratched and dented; but strangly; there is none of the blood and death in this room you have seen in other places.

This room is very cool. Inside are smashed desks and there are a few tools scattered about that may have been for adjusting this machine. There are a few small rats about; either deaf and blind or strangely bold.

There are no apparent doors or ways out of this room.

Silver Crusade

m drow Ranger 1

Gyldyr gestures towards Sunset, communicating we should follow her, then.

Male Gnome Sorcerer 3

Gloisil follows the prompts given by Gyldyr, first to the door at the end of the hall, and then learning that it looks to be a dead end. And then towards the door that attracted Sunset's attention.

Gloisil doesn't even bother to speak to the others as he's sure that he wouldn't be heard.

Sovereign Court

M Halfling Rogue

Koridur looks around quickly for anything of import before he moves to the next door, reaching to open it as well.

PERCEPTION: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23 +2 to notice unusual stonework

Man I hope I didn't waste a nat 20, lol!

Desidera was looking around at the many apparatus.. apparati..? Things that the dwarves left behind, and when the group moves forward, she can't help but notice that Sunset skipped off to look at another door. The dangers that they had faced in here were not any to sneer at, so with a tilt of her head in curiosity, she followed Sunset, waving to Gloisil that she would keep an eye on their wayward elf.

Goddess, but her arm was getting tired of holding the lantern. Starting to say something, she opened her mouth, then remembered that she still really could not hear anything, and it was very, very likely that Sunset was worse off. Sighing heavily, she tromped after her, at least to let her know which direction the others were when she finally did decide to head back.

Fem Elf Bard 3

With her little mage orb of the dancing lights spell bobbing ahead, Sunset peers into the room that has piqued her interest.

Perception:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23

And her eyes open wide with emotion at what she has seen. (^_^)

ARGH! last post eaten my the Messageboards Monster.

Koridur,

Spoiler:

These are the main air circulation bellow or pumps for the main smithy; one to bring in fresh cool air; one to pump out hot volanic air; and another input for the main chamber. These are typically chutes and are guarded by whirling blades; magic; runes; and usually have guardposts of pikemen and crossbowmen. There is often problems with bats and spiders in such areas; sometimes a Holds most insurgent foes hide in here; like Vampires and other mist like or flying creatures thus usually well guarded. Since this hold has been in greenskin hands; anything could be inside and who knows if they guard it or not.

different smells come from various rooms; fresh air from two; hot volcanic air and various gasses; some poisonous from the central pump. These have not been well maintained; they seems to wobble and some pieces or missing or broken and there are many tears. The pumps are attached to the floor and ceiling. The rooms on either side are fresh air; the central room is hot acidic air.
