How about you help Ameiko back to the Dragon and Vandra, Jeax and I keep an eye on the place until Sheriff Hemlock can get someone out here.
| Cleo Gingerberry |
Good plan, we'll send help as soon as possible... be careful please, all of you
| DM TreasureFox |
While the main group escorts Ameiko back to the Rusty Dragon, it doesn't take long for Vandra, Jeaux, and Maria to feel uneasy. While the furnaces make a low hum that reverberates along the stone basement rooms, the cold stone floors nip away at your skin. Echoes of various sorts emanate from the strange tunnel, always at regular intervals. Like the breathing of a great beast, its low pitched sounds funnel around you in the otherwise dead silent stone basement.

Maria shivers slightly. This place is really creepy she says while slowly flipping through the formula books and comparing the childish pictures and trying to figure out what they mean. After awhile she puts the books away and starts looking at the various loot and pricing it out,
Appraisal of Ear rings: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
Appraisal of Obsidian unholy symbol: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24

I can't remember, can wizards learn spells from formula books? And if so, what skill/DC do I need? Also, if I remember correctly, the DC is increased for learning from a goblin's book.
Maria the Great
|
I don't believe so, but Alchemists can do it the other way around provided it fits the rules for an alchemist formula.
| DM TreasureFox |
As per RAW, no you couldn't. However, I would rule that you could, perhaps taking twice as much time. The goblin formula books are rather hilarious, given that there is no such thing as goblin writing (goblins believe that writing steals your soul, or your thoughts). So this is a detailed picture book more than anything else. I would rule that you could study them, but it would take a much higher check to succeed.
Earrings: 25gp for the pair
Obsidian Unholy Symbol: 100gp (depending on who you sell it to. Good aligned churches are reliable buyers, but don't offer high prices. Worshipers would pay a small fortune, but would be very difficult to find.)
| Helgarr |
Arriving at the Rusty Dragon, Helgarr addresses Ameiko - "How are you feeling? Better?" - she moves closer - "I am sorry you had to go through all this. And your brother... Why would he do such a thing?"
Vandra Geaux
|
Gotcha. Thought it was that way but couldn't remember. Also, my laptop wasn't fixed like I was told, still freezing on me >.<
Vandra looked around the tunnel room warily. The entire situation gave him the creeps. Looking over at Maria, he asked, "So, how are you doing? Any wounds from the battle?"
Maria the Great
|
No, Ameiko's brother wasn't able to land a clean hit against me before Azeri took him down. I don't understand how a family like that even raised such a good person.
| DM TreasureFox |
Once Ameiko takes a seat and stops being swarmed by happy halflings, happy townsfolk, happy everyone, she says "Yes... Well, Tsuto never had it good here in Sandpoint, but to burn down the entire village." She shakes her head in disbelief. "My darling father disowned him at birth, you see. Since my father is human, and my mother was human. You know... Half Elf... He was raised in the orphanage here. I would visit him a few times a week, bringing him all sorts of sweets. He was always a troubled kid. Five years ago, my mother died during the... well. The Late Unpleasantness, as it's called. Tsuto went to his mother's funeral, but ended up in a fist fight with my father who ran Tsuto out of town. Tsuto wanted me to join him..."
| Cleo Gingerberry |
Cleo wants to listen but rushes out to find the sheriff to get someone to guard the tunnel.

That sound it's making, I'm betting it's the distorted sounds of waves breaking against the beach or something. So it's probably ends in a cave or something. At least, I hope that's all that sound is.
| DM TreasureFox |
As Helgarr, Ali, and Azeri try to comfort Ameiko, Furnok and Cleo race off (at about even pace) to the garrison to get some guards. Sheriff Hemlock is devastated to hear the news, but he pulls two of his guards to stand watch for activity in the basement. The two men are quite green, and find the place very spooky.
Meanwhile, he puts a handful of volunteers on the gate to continue watch for goblin activity. He gets another group of volunteers to clean up the massacre within the glassworks, which is a grueling task. Among them is the druid Hannah, who most of you have met before.
"We need to take care of business before you do much else. I'm leaving town tomorrow morning, and we need to register the group before that in case the Scarnettis try to make things even more difficult." Hemlock comments to Furnok and Cleo. "Also, you might want to visit father Zantus for some healing, you look pretty beat up."
| Helgarr |
DM TreasureFox, what time of the day is it? Wondering if I have time to meet with Garrigan Viskalai
Cleo, you think you can get us back in shape before tomorrow? OR should we go see father Zantus? :D
| DM TreasureFox |
Depends on how much time you want to spend with Ameiko or help out around the village. The battle ended around 2pm, and by the time Hemlock gets proper guards in the Glassworks it's around 4. Actual cleanup of corpses and volunteer guardsmen start their work around 8pm. Dinner is very much a "whenever" things, because although the Corwin family is working hard, everything is in the air after this rescue.
| DM TreasureFox |
Also, I'm pretty sure Cleo used up all her channels for the day.
As Furnok and Cleo visit the good father, they see him rushing over to the Rusty Dragon. When they meet up with him and explain the situation, he gasps in near horror. "By the gods, this is terrible! Well at least Ameiko and all of you are alive. When you get the chance, please bring all your wounded to me. I can't offer much, but it will be enough to help you be well for your continued journeys. Furnok, there is no doubt in my mind that you and the rest of the group are now crucial to Sandpoint's survival. Something of great evil seems to haunt us.
Within the basement down below, Maria, Vandra, and Jeaux have just noticed that their goblin captive is free. Slowly and cautiously, she approaches you in a non-hostile manner. "Aggah... go, yes?" She says as she points down the tunnel.
| Helgarr |
Wait, wait, what goblin captive? The goblin is with me ;)
Maria the Great
|
I didn't think we had it.
| Helgarr |
Helgarr triple checks the ropes with a snarl - "This is your last warning" - and brings the goblin along with her and Cleo - "Shall we rejoin the others?"
Had assumed I was dragging the goblin all along since this post.
| Alandrian Verium |
Ali takes up a spot beside Amieko and refuses to move, no matter what, staring down Councilmen, Mayors and Sheriffs alike. He eventually relents when Azeri points out that Ameikos wounds need to be tended (And that she is a fully grown woman and not some child that he needs to stand guard over).
Ali takes a table in a dark corner of the room and sits there sullenly nursing a mug of ale, tracing the tabletop over and over again in the same pattern.
| DM TreasureFox |
Essentially a bound goblin on a child leash, Helgarr walks into the Rusty Dragon with her captive. The goblin doesn't have a gag or leg bindings, but she's surprisingly docile. She doesn't make any noise, nor struggles against the binding around her arms and torso. If someone looks at her directly, she smiles brightly.
She knows that she's as good as dead, but she'll take an opportunity if she finds one.
Most religion classes have a small number abilities that can be cast without a holy symbol, although they are fairly minor.
| Helgarr |
DM TreasureFox, the goblin should be gagged - posted here - I know he started chewing through it, but I don't think he managed to, due to Cleo's intervention?
Can any of those rolls be tried untrained?
| Helgarr |
I would gag him again in that case. Or I can gag him now.
Sense Motive: 1d20 ⇒ 4
:P
| Helgarr |
Agreed, but Helgarr would have gagged her again, as she has done from the start. Makes sense, right? Is that a problem? Feels too much meta?
| DM TreasureFox |
Too much meta. This is a near-dead goblin who is essentially being held in a hemp straightjacket, with no armor, weapons, or holy symbol. She is very well behaved and is actively working to feign harmlessness. I'd have given it to you if you beat the Sense Motive, but this is a final ruling. Others who check on her may beat the Sense Motive and suggest a better course of action. Sometimes having a low wisdom has penalties.
Vandra Geaux
|
For a moment Vandra thought he saw a goblin walking towards them before he shook his head with a ruefull grin. "Great, now I'm seeing things," he muttered.
Sorry, couldn't resist.
As the guards appeared, Vandra explained what happened, along with their suspicions about the tunnel. "Have the others made it back to the inn safely?" he asked one of the guards.
| Helgarr |

This is not a big issue for Helgar, but I disagree, since you never actually told us he actually had chewed through the gag (only beginning to do so) until the description of us arriving at the Rusty Dragon. Hence I never had cause to actually gag her again. And I don't really understand the Wisdom reference - I am not talking about the SM, that seems perfectly ok to me, and I would not expect Helgarr to succeed at it. But all good, the ruling is done.
In any case, Helgarr will be delivering the goblin to the sheriff, with the request if it will be possible to interrogate him later.
Maria the Great

Despite her previous words the sounds from the tunnel have left her unnerved. She imagines all kinds of things from down there. Nothing so far. She feels a bit of tug as the sound of a chain comes from the tunnel.
| DM TreasureFox |
Our favorite halfling runs back up the stairs to find that her captive is about half ways through her bonds. The goblin seems to have been chewing through the rope at an astounding pace. When she sees you, she simply tilts her head to the side and grins devilishly.
Whenever Helgarr brings the female goblin to the garrison, she says "Bye bye" with a wide smile as she is put into a cell. The cell is built to secure small creatures, such as halflings, so imprisoning a goblin should have the same efficiency. The lone guard stationed there assures that the female goblin will remain for later interrogation.
Back at the basement, the sound of a chain brings the two guards to attention. "Who - who goes there!?" one of them nervously shouts.
Maria the Great
|
Again letting her imagination get away with her Maria (thinks) she sees a brief flash of red, as if eyes had shone with the light of the hallway. She imagines the feeling of someone breathing down her neck, and everybody hears it as Maria again feels a tug within her.
| Helgarr |
After dropping the goblin off, Helgarr meets up with Furnok and Cleo.
Back in the Glassworks, anyone remembers if we saw the surviving goblin casting, or something similar?
Maria the Great
|
Another tug and the sound of wind rushing surrounds the group. Maria feels a pounding in her head as the tugs come faster, outside her the sound of a beating heart fills the room. She grabs her head, and begins to plead Stop, stop, please stop, please please stop, STOP! As she yells out her final protest the sounds end.
| Helgarr |
Would that reasoning be enough to assume he is a caster, and suggest to the guard that he be gagged exactly because of that?
