Crafting might be a generally awesome thing anyway given our probable lack of purchaseable supplies-- these characters would have to learn how to make do. I'm likely putting a skill point into a Craft of some sort, this level.

My worry withcrafting is that we may be too time poor to actually get any use out of it.

Yeah, that's a possibility too. Alas.

Giving yourself an extra d6 damage every time you hit with flank is kinda awesome, Karmuk. :) I guess it depends on whether you want to go more mobility with him or more brute power?

I'm taking Petra heavy on the defensive. Hold the liiine! Rarh!

Male Dwarf Inquisitor 2 | Init +2, Per +7 | F +5/8, R +0/4, W+5/8 [Hardy, Glory of Old] | HP 18/18, AC 15, Judgement 1/1, Spells 3/3

You are right extra d6 damage (Precise Strike) is nice.
And maybe Dodge+Mobility for getting into flanking position.
But Power Attack+Furious Focus is very tempting chain for raw damage.

Maybe I'll take Precise Strike and Power Attack at level 3.

Deng, I think you ought to consider the spell sanctuary. It's great for getting around the battlefield so you can cure people. Otherwise, you might consider bless.

As for feat, Selective Channeling. It's not just about Jon; it's also about not healing enemies and not all our enemies are going to be undead.

Jon, you're too low a level to really benefit from Improved Familiar. I recommend that you save it for 7th level. Craft Wondrous Item can wait for 3rd. I recommend Precise Shot, but the truth is I'm not clear on what class you are, so it's hard to make recommendations that will still be good in the future.

Feel free to look over the Profile if you like - nothing secret about it.

Jon's a Sorceror. Fascinating thing happens. His stats, race and spell selection meant he started off as a sort of tanky-archer. As we advance his defences start to drop off, stealth stays good. Ranged attacks are good till 5th, I think, then start to fade off. Meanwhile his arcane capability starts to accelerate as he levels up.
Mostly this is because I'm building to a concept rather than anything else.
So, my dilemma with precise strike is how often am I actually going to be using it in the future?
I figure next level I'll be getting Command Undead. That alone changes his capability significantly.

Male Half-Orc Oracle 3

Remember, Precise Shot works for all those ranged touch effect spells when cast into melee, too.

Really, it depends on what kind of spells you plan on taking.

Left (detects: 2/3 spells: 3/6) Init+4 Per +2 to +8 Stealth +11 F+1 R+5 W+3 HP 17/17 AC 18

It is the spells that make it worthwhile I think. I could get weapon finesse I suppose - that'll help with melee touches like chill touch. I think it still works if I get spectral hand later.

Otherwise I was going to try to avoid melee attacks.

Was thinking of maybe getting ear piercing scream later.

Primarily buff spells I think.

Questions for GM Nitemare:
* Can Improved Familiars be 'upgraded' as you level?
* Are we likely to have the time to use craft wondrous? Book does say " If the caster is out adventuring, he can devote 4 hours each day to item creation, although he nets only 2 hours' worth of work. This time is not spent in one continuous period, but rather during lunch, morning preparation, and during watches at night. If time is dedicated to creation, it must be spent in uninterrupted 4-hour blocks. This work is generally done in a controlled environment, where distractions are at a minimum, such as a laboratory or shrine. Work that is performed in a distracting or dangerous environment nets only half the amount of progress (just as with the adventuring caster)." which implies being able to do 250gp/day.
* Given the adventure themes is crafting items (and presumably finding the components do so) appropriate?

I hadn't ignored you. Safe Curing and Sanctuary seem to be after the same goal, and I AM taking Safe Curing sooner or later. Deng gets too few spells known to pick one that duplicates an ability he's going to get through other means (other than the healing series, of course).

Going with Selective Channeling and Decompose Corpse, I think.

I'm getting the Revelation that let's Deng become a pillar of Positive energy, so that other people can simply walk THROUGH ME and be healed (one per round, level rounds per day).

That's weird and interesting! Good choice.

That revelation is about 8 kinds of awesome.

Upgrade an improved familiar as you level? Do you mean like advancing a companion or cohort with feat selection and skills? I don’t think so, however, the familiar would gain natural armor adjustment, intelligence and special abilities as listed on the Familiar ability descriptions table as the master’s class increases.

Regarding your craft wondrous items question, yes, you can devote 4 hours throughout the day netting 2 hours of work. Crafting items can work for this campaign.

I meant at 3rd take a celestial/resolute owl. At 7th 'upgrade' it to a Nosoi.

Yes, you can upgrade to the Psychopomp familiar at 7th. That's not a problem.

Take improved familiar feat now for the celestial bird. At 7th level release the celestial from service. Perform "ritual" and voilà, within 24 hours you'll get your new familiar, at least I think thats how it should work.

Edit: I think it will cost 200 gp per sorcerer level as well for the ritual, although I am not entirely certain

Could the ritual "upgrade" the familiar rather than replace it? I'm really committed to this being the same physical (metaphysical) critter if I can.

Okay, how about the "transformation" from Celestial bird to Nosoi takes 1 week then. Transformation, upgrade or whatever flavor you have in mind instead of replacing will be fine.

I wrote 24 hours, but now I see it takes one week according to RAW.
If a familiar is dismissed, lost, or dies, it can be replaced 1 week later through a specialized ritual that costs 200 gp per wizard level. The ritual takes 8 hours to complete. So after the 8 hour ritual, "transformation" or what-have you, takes about 1 week.

As a head's up:

I moved 1,000 miles 7 months ago. Thursday night my wife finally arrives.

The movers MIGHT arrive on Friday.

My internet connection changes from one apartment to another on Saturday.

So, the odds are REALLY good that the last meaningful connection with me for this weekend will be on Wednesday.

Good luck! Moving is such a hassle.

If anybody wants to kill some time.... *coff-unsubtle-pimping-coff* ...I'm rather chuffed with myself for taking second place in the Pathfinder Chronicler Fiction Contest for the year, so pardon a bit of squeeful bragging from this corner. If anyone's bored, my stories (Zero Hour and The Dragon's Attention) are available online, as well as all the other entries!

(Sorry to anyone who's in multiple games with me, you're about to get spammed across the board by my excitement!)

I am really sorry that I haven't been active lately.

Situation should normalise in couple of days and then I am able to post again.

Ok, no problem Karmuk. Thanks for. checking in.

Wife and household goods both showed up. The bathroom, bedroom, part of the living room and some of the kitchen are in order. Enough that we can live day-to-day while she goes through the rest of what she brought and gets it all put away. I hope she can make it all fit. I'm really not certain she can. Still have boxes scattered in the dining room, living room and kitchen, and the second bedroom is about 50% full of boxes, too.

She's spent the last seven months getting rid of stuff, too.

I read them, too. I think you have real talent, Dien!

I wonder if anything can be done about the grey-on-black type, though? Old eyes just can't read that stuff. I had to print it out to read it.

Aw, thanks guys! Really appreciate it.

Eh, that's their website format, I guess. :-\ I often C/P stuff into a word editing doc if I can't read it on the site.

It seems to happen more and more often, for some reason. I'm hoping it has to do with the Holiday this week.

Another game I'm playing has stalled out because the GM works retail. He won't be back until after Christmas. I guess we'll see if anyone is still watching when he gets back. No, he didn't tell us when he started the game.

I'm still willing and ready to keep going, but I guess we'll just have to watch and see if our GM returns to us.

Yeah. I'm calling time of death, folks. I'm sorry to see it go because this story had lots of fodder for good story and because you guys are terrific players.

I toyed with the idea of running this game, but I simply have too much on my plate as it is.

Best Regards to all of you. I'm out.

Yeah, looks like this one has gone off the deep-end, alas. Bummer, I was enjoying Petra as my first PF ranger. Maybe I'll pop her into PFS someday, but alas, one is not guaranteed the same hegemony of foes, there. :P

Friends, it's been a pleasure.
I do wonder what the deal was with the plague - ah well.
Hope to see you all round in other games.
