Notes regarding the environment inside the forest.
-Area inside the forest=light undergrowth.
-Also, there are trees, (typical, and massive) available for use.
A space covered with light undergrowth costs 2 squares of movement to move into, and provides concealment. Undergrowth increases the DC of Acrobatics and Stealth checks by 2 because the leaves and branches get in the way.
Trees The most important terrain element in a forest is the trees, obviously. A creature standing in the same square as a tree gains partial cover, which grants a +2 bonus to Armor Class and a +1 bonus on Reflex saves. The presence of a tree doesn't otherwise affect a creature's fighting space, because it's assumed that the creature is using the tree to its advantage when it can. The trunk of a typical tree has AC 4, hardness 5, and 150 hp. A DC 15 Climb check is sufficient to climb a tree. Medium and dense forests have massive trees as well. These trees take up an entire square and provide cover to anyone behind them. They have AC 3, hardness 5, and 600 hp. Like their smaller counterparts, it takes a DC 15 Climb check to climb them.
Just try to be as specific as possible with what you are doing.

I've gone every year but one since 1980. Uncle Sam had other plans for me that year (1987).
It was a lot of fun. I played 6 PFS games, one PvP game of Pathfinder ("JollyDoc's Team Death Match") and one game of "Godlike", which may have been the most fun of all. My 5th-level PFS cavalier died in Part One of the meant-to-be-deadly Bonekeep scenario, but I had enough Prestige Points saved up to bring him back for Part II.
I did catch a bad case of the Con Crud, however and feel rotten. I'll try to catch up soon.

I am literally out of all spells that could affect undead. As I said, a poor spell load-out that won't happen again. But Aurengil is essentially out of this fight save for scouting through Calithil, his hawk.

As a heads-up, my laptop's power adapter seems to be missing. I'm hoping it will turn up in short order, but until then I'm on battery power with minimal computer time, so I may be slow to post for a while. I suppose this might be the straw that breaks the camel's back of forcing me to get my PC's screwy connection sorted out again....
I think Petra will be at +1 HP when Aurengil's potion goes down her throat, glub glub. ~and then elves and dwarves lived happily ever after~
Assume she is at total defense if you need an action from me and are waiting too long.

Just a heads-up in case anyone is interested. I'm recruiting for my first game.

I would love to play in this game, it sounds fun! Alas, school is starting next week and I fear I may become overwhelmed should my character become accepted.
I appreciate you posting interest here, however. Good luck with your first game Tarondor!

Thank you for the invite, but I already have credit for Silent Tide.

Well, Level 2 is 3,000; 2,000 or 1,300 depending on which advancement chart is in use. But, yeah. 1,000 for Level 2 was WotC's advancement chart, which Pathfinder doesn't use because it wasn't part of the OGL, and copying it would open them up to a WotC Copyright Infringement lawsuit.
The things we do because of lawyers.

Haven't heard anything from the GM, here, so.... waiting for an update regarding our state of XP/leveling.
Aurengil |
I'm just using average hit points.
Aurengil is leveled up. GM, I took the liberty of making one significant change for the campaign: I swapped out necromancy as an opposition school and took illusion as an opposition school instead.

Okay, this is fine. Thanks for letting me know.

I apologize for my absence over past two days. Just so you know, its a challenge for me to update during the weekends and during that time it is unlikely that I will be posting.
On the other hand, I usually will be able to update once or twice each day during the week, m-f.

I want to point out the First Official PbP Gameday.
I've signed up to run some games. There will be prizes! Hope to see you there.

I also want to point out THIS OPPORTUNITY to play "Dragon's Demand."
Karmuk |
using Detect Undead SLA
Does Spell-Like Ability require casting?
If so, isn't it bit provocative to start casting?(I don't know if that is Jon's intention, just asking).
EDIT: if it doesn't require casting, Karmuk is going to use detect evil.
Aurengil |
Spell-like abilities involve some sort of concentration, as they provoke attacks of opportunity and take up a standard action, but they are not spells and so have no verbal, somatic, focus, or material components.
So it's evident that he is using such an ability, even though he is not speaking or waving his arms.
Karmuk |
Nice link, thanks.
I only found this: glossary
"Spell-like abilities, as the name implies, are magical abilities that are very much like spells. Spell-like abilities are subject to spell resistance and dispel magic. They do not function in areas where magic is suppressed or negated (such as an antimagic field). Spell-like abilities can be dispelled but they cannot be counterspelled or used to counterspell."
And "Actions In Combat" table in combat
But then I guess using sp could go unnoticed is some circumstances? (if no one is observing closely)
GM Nitemare |
Well, Jon doesn't meet the prerequisites, but if he did, I would allow this:
Hidden Spell
You can cast spells unnoticed.
Prerequisite: Sleight of Hand 5 ranks, Spellcraft 1 rank.
Benefit: You can hide the fact that you casting a spell so well that when you make a successful Sleight of Hand check, opposed by enemy Perception checks, enemies can't tell that you're spell-casting. They also cannot counterspell and receive no attacks of opportunity if they'd normally be entitled to one.
Jon Pariah |
Yeah the rules are a but weird on this one. SLAs and spells are a little different - SLAs are stilled, silent, eschewed by default - so at least they don't break stealth. Happy with the interpretation.
One suggestion I've seen was that in addition to V, S and M all spells have a special effect. Basically if this was a movie Jon's eyes might have gone black for a few seconds. People can then spot (and identify the spell based on) the special effect. Does this sound reasonable? Benefits the party as well so I'm good with it, and this is probably the first time Jon has used his power in a well lit room while under observation.

So, what does the group think Deng should take for his next 1st level Cleric spell?
Right now, I'm thinking about one of these two:
The first is an undead specific debuff. The second is a minor flaming weapon buff. I AM open to suggestions.
The Feat that's leading the pack is Selective Channeling. I haven't even looked at Feats yet, but it seems the obvious choice (Jon).
Edit: Extra Revelation: Safe Curing looks pretty good, too. Not provoking when casting healing spells . . ..
Jon Pariah |
I've been thinking of Life Dominant Soul, but it just doesn't seem to fit the descent into darkness idea.
Theoretically Selective Channeling isn't needed, just have to make sure Deng and Jon are at least 30ft away... but I admit it sure crops up a lot. Not sure if increasing level makes that easier.
I point out when Jon is within 30ft you can still channel to heal living, it is just hurting dead that is the problem.
Still, I'm sorry for the inconvenience.
Neither of the two spells are amazing:
Decompose Corpse; -2 to attacks and AC or could do 1d8+3 damage with CLW.
Sun Metal; 1d4 fire isn't much. It *does* ignore DR though, and I don't think we're likely to run into many critters with fire immunity. On the other hand it is at max 3 rounds, which means maybe 3d4 extra damage. You can, again, do about that much damage with CLW. The fact you can put it on your whip is intriguing though - means you can melee attack safely while staying at range.
Jon Pariah |
My own dilemma is feat-wise
Life Dominant Soul
Precise Shot
Improved Familiar
Craft Wondrous Item
At 7th I'd like a Nosoi for my Improved Familiar... but at 3rd I could get a Celestial bird, which is getting there. Possibly I could upgrade it as I level. Not a lot of point mechanically, I guess, but fits the character concept.

Despite undead being the dominant theme of the campaign, I fully expect us to run into enough non-undead foes to make it interesting. So having Selective Channel might be a good idea, regardless. Beyond that two cents though, take whatever works for you. :)
I'm probably picking up Favored Defense for Petra, but I'm not 100% sold on that. I generally approach feats in a 'ooh that would be fun' fashion.

Deng, I think you ought to consider the spell sanctuary. It's great for getting around the battlefield so you can cure people. Otherwise, you might consider bless.
As for feat, Selective Channeling. It's not just about Jon; it's also about not healing enemies and not all our enemies are going to be undead.
Jon, you're too low a level to really benefit from Improved Familiar. I recommend that you save it for 7th level. Craft Wondrous Item can wait for 3rd. I recommend Precise Shot, but the truth is I'm not clear on what class you are, so it's hard to make recommendations that will still be good in the future.
Karmuk |
Any feat, teamwork feat and spell recommendations for Karmuk?
Maybe Precise Strike as teamwork feat "Deal +1d6 points of precision damage with melee attacks" (when flanking).
Or Lookout "Act in surprise round if ally can act"?
Power Attack is always an option for feat.
Intimidating Prowess would suit Karmuk, but I am not sure is it that useful in undead heavy campaign.
cure light wounds could be handy if we can't shop wands.
Other nice spells bless, bless water, hide from undead, true strike
I think that I need to find better armor, shield and one hand slashing weapon.
