GM Nitemare |
I know I said we would get started next Monday but I have decided to post the games first thread so that people who are done with their characters could get some RP going.
No worries if your not close to being done with your characters, I wont post anything with significant implications on the game until everyone is finished.
Aurengil |
Huh. That's too bad. It seemed like such a cool character.
BTW, El Jefe, Aurengil is ready to go. On the other hand, I might possibly give him a rank in Profession (Sailor) now that I know the Keep is on a lake.
Petra Gritstone |
Bummer, I also liked the idea of the tief-pally.
I'm having trouble fitting profession (sailor) into my concept for Petra Belay that, there's a dwarf racial feature called Saltbeard which loses you a couple of other racial traits, and is designed for dwarves whose clans are near aquatic habitats.
If you'll permit it, GM, I'll take that and flavor in that her clan's cave was on a coastline. Unless I go with that specific background, though, I can't easily figure out why a dwarf who has spent most of her life underground would know much about sailing-- swimming, sure, but not sailing.
I may tweak her armor to something less painful on the armor checks, too, but I'll have a finished version up soon.
Petra Gritstone |
I may need to go on strike against Paizo for the ludicrous cost of a journal + inkpen + ink. Near 20 gold for that purchase!
*grump* Seriously how can a stay at a good inn cost 2 GP but one ounce of plain ink costs four times that amount? >:[
Petra is apparently going to have a journal and inkpen with no ink, until she can afford it.
Anyway, final stats/etc under the profile. Decided not to go with the Saltbeard thing.
Jon Pariah |
GM: obviously Jon's format is wrong, but are you okay with what is in his profile?
Aurengil, Petra: so as follows?
Jon helped some kid a month ago, gave him some food and sent him to White Keep. Sent with message that he had discovered X and was investigating.
Aurengil ran into the kid, found out about X, backtracked to find Jon, discovers Jon's condition. Willing to listen and help.
Aurengil and John go to X (a ruined farmhouse?)
Meanwhile kid goes to White Keep. Talks about X. Petra (and co) come out to find X.
At X Aurengil and John are besieged. Petra's cavalry raises siege. Aurengil intercedes for Jon.
Everyone goes to White Keep.
I'm thinking X might be a big Silver deposit, or a buried chest of Silver or something.
In a world where a bunch of your enemies can only be hurt by Silver or things made from Silver (Holy water) I imagine Silver isn't so much coinage as a valuable consumable... almost the "ammunition" of a standard zombie genre movie. Something worth risking for. Something easily divisible.

Karmuk |
I wrote short backstory:
"Karmuk is devoted follower of Abadar. In a rash moment he signed up as field agent, and has regretted since. Do not get me wrong, he really loves Abadar, it is those operations he hate. He'd like to stay with dwarves, but no, missions always lead him into distant lands and foreign cultures, which he loathes. But it his duty, and he is going to obey his orders - and he is going to do so without complaining (not).
He is neither preacher nor missionary - he is not converting, he is solving problems. Sometimes he is on secret infiltration missions, sometimes just investigating or spying, and sometimes fighting against enemies of the faith."
Now I am thinking how to integrate him into gameplay. I was thinking something like:
"This time his supervisor ms. Rusilka is giving him orders to travel to White Keep (where ever that is) to meet his contact person - Derth Lovthorn. Karmuk is supposed to support in investigate and eliminate undead threat."
Maybe that order was given before situation was this bad.
Maybe traveling to White Keep took longer than expected and Karmuk is late.
GM Nitemare, what do you think?

How and why you came to Whitekeep is fine, however, I would prefer you to have been at White Keep for some time already, be it several days now or several weeks.
Derth is happy that you made it to the White Keep with your Constitution intact, he is also more than grateful to have you and your skills on hand.Character looks good, you've got the all clear as well Karamuk

Ok. Good to know. Thanks.

Hey, how about some actual introductions? Of the players and GM. I'll go first.
I'm Scott. I'm a husband, father of a two-month old boy and an 11-year old dog. I'm an attorney in Fairfax, Virginia and I've been into RPGs since 1977. Pathfinder since it came out (2007?)
I'm in five online games here at the paizo forums. I play in one online Pathfinder game and GM two more on yuku. I also play in an email Amber game. Oh, and I run a biweekly Shattered Star game, thought that's been on hiatus because of the baby.
Other interests are astronomy, physics, history (especially Roman and Byzantine) and animals.

Okay . . ..
I'm Jeff. I started playing RPGs in 1979. I have been fairly active in the massive shared campaign format since returning from Saudi Arabia back in 1999. Living City, Living Jungle, Living Greyhawk, Living Arcanis, Witch Hunter, Living Dragonstar, Pathfinder, Legends of Arcanis and more that I'm sure I'm forgetting.
I served 25 years as an active duty enlisted Airman, and am currently employed as a civil servant with the united States Air Force, now managing the same kind of work I did while enlisted. I recently accepted a promotion (and cross-country move), and my wife and I are dealing with the separation while she tries to off-load our previous home.
My wife and I have been married for 29 years. Our youngest moved out on her own this last February (she didn't want to move with us). We are down to the two of us and a rescue dog.
My interests include gaming (duh), Renaissance Faires, hand-to-hand combat skills (well out of practice, currently, sadly), and the BSA.
During this ongoing separation I am not doing pretty much anything outside of my apartment, as the gross majority of my income is being dumped into getting rid of the previous residence and thus terminating the separation.

Sounds like some trying times Jeff, I wish you well...
Hello All, Im Will.
Married, father of one 5 year old boy, and jack Russell Terrier. I'm an academic advisor and graduate student. I reside in Sacramento, CA, but have no real life gaming friends :( Trying to get some into the hobby but its really hard to find the time.
Started gaming back in the day with the red box. Fell out of the hobby for about 20 or more years.. Got back into the hobby just prior to 4E around 2007, bought all of the 3.5 books, then 4e was announced. Tried 4e and was dissatisfied. at this time I began to dabble in PF which has quickly grown into an obsession.
Been running PF games over at plothook but I'm done with that site now. Too many different games and not enough PF enthusiasts. Some great writers over there, but here it seems like ground zero for PF.
Always wanted to run a game or two on the Paizo site anyway so here I am now!
My other interest include reading sci fi lit including PF tales, FR novels,SW, anything Stephen King, and Game of thrones (I'm half way through Storm of Swords).

Hi, I am Jussi. I am 36.
I live in Finland with my girlfriend and our cat, we have been 15 years together. I am working as software developer in a small company.
I started role playing when I was 13. I started with RuneQuest (because it was published in finnish) and continued with GURPS.
Then I had ~15 years break from tabletop RPGs, but continued to play computer RPGs (like Planescape: Torment).
Year ago I started playing Call of Cthulhu with my collegues. And couple of month ago, when our GM run out of ideas, we decided to change to D&D, but our local game store recommended Pathfinder to us. So now I am GMing Rise of the Runelords AP to my co-workers (~3 hours in once a week). I was searching for some tips for the AP, when I found this online campaigns forum. This is my first PbP.
EDIT: And I am reading A Dance with Dragons;)

Thank you. We've lived through worse, though. Both times with less money and times with less contact, less shared time.
If the desire to remain together is strong in both partners, these problems are just speed bumps, not insurmountable obstacles which lead to the end of the relationship.
Karmuk |
By the way, nice characters everybody. But I like Jon especially, he's concept fits this theme so nicely.
And now when I think... I should have picked some totally different race, just to make the party even more weird. I don't know is it usually so nice idea, but fits so well to this scenario. I mean characters just forced to work together :D
Jon Pariah |
I'm Tim. I'm 39 with three kids (youngest is two) and three cats.
I've been role-playing for 27 years now, I started when I was 12 with the red box.
I'm a programmer and outside role-playing and IT I don't really have any hobbies. I do read fantasy and sci-fi, but I've slowed down to about a book a week now.

Woah, be semi-offline for one day and chit-chat explodes.
I'm Dien, 29, California-based-- about a three hour drive south of our good GM. Have you checked if there's any PFS going on in the Sac area, Will? There's got to be!
My interests are writing, art, comic books, martial arts and playing ten-year-old computer games because I'm cheap as hell. Work as a caregiver for my elderly grandmother, and play a lot of Pathfinder-- I think I'm in ten games at the moment, but some are in various states of inactivity, so the tally of active games is probably closer to 6... GMing through Blakros Matrimony here on the boards, GMing Shattered Star for some RL friends, playing Kingmaker, and participating in my local PFS as GM and player.
Jeff, thank you for your service and I hope things pick up for you.
Mutual shared interest in Roman history, Scott-- I took Latin in college and I wish I could find someone local who would like to learn it, as I've all but forgotten mine and the best way to do a refresher course is to teach someone else...
Aurengil |
Jeff: Also former enlisted. Also out-of-practice former hand-to-hand (SCA).
Dien: I wish I had time to study Latin and classical Greek. While my interests span the entire Romano-Byzantine spectrum, I'm particularly interested in the late Dominate era of the Gothic wars.

I find that its kind of cool to know that someone else in this game is semi-local to me!
Ive thought about the PFS, there is a local comic book store down the street from me that was running PFS several months ago, but the owner said it kind of died. I'll probably look at a few other venues if I can find the time. At the moment, these boards and solo role playing with the Mythic GM Emulator will have to suffice.

Yeah, that's always fun.
Paizo's Events page lists a ton of Sac games- looks like there's PFS going on every day M-F there, as well as some games in Elk Grove. Obviously, time can be an issue, but I hope you find something!
@ Scott-- yeah, time is the great problem. Especially once kids are on the table. If you'd ever be interested in something like an online Latin course, let me know.

Hey, wait-a-minute! I saw a note to come to the Discussion thread, so I did. I haven't seen any other instructions, and I got curious, so I looked at the game play thread and found out I'm 4 days late!
I make assumptions, and I get told to stop doing that.
I don't make assumptions, and I miss the boat.
Some days it really does NOT pay to get out of bed, you know that? <g>
GM Nitemare |
NPC list (ill keep this updated):
Derth Lovthorn - Lord of White Keep
Groll - Derths Best friend (rumored to be half orc)
Zandu - captain of the Black Sunset , and mother of Styrian
Styrian-9 year old human child. Father is a zombie
Cherrith - middle age Female human commoner, very sick with the flu (or something)
Merrideth - old Female human, nursemaid
Aurengil |
She might just be reading Kyranda's words wrong.
I don't think so, there, Herr Oberst. Our short and stony commander has the Band-Aid dialed in pretty squarely, I'd say. I think Petra's going to have to decide on the "no, um, bunking" rule pretty fast. And then see if it sticks. Good luck with that. :-p
