D'witt Hirshue |

Round 3 - I assume if the creature is that big I should be able to aim high enough with an explosive without anyone else being caught in the 10' splash range.
"We Cannot let it escape the grove! It could kill everyone!"
"We don't plan on letting it." D'witt pipes up as he clears the trees, skidding to a stop even as he fiddles with one of his shot before loading it into his pepperbox and aiming.
Standard action: Explosive Missle (infuse one shot with power of a bomb (explosive type), load and fire weapon).
Attack: ranged touch attack (burn Grit point for 2nd range increment) + point blank - 2nd range increment 1d20 + 7 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (12) + 7 + 1 - 1 = 19

Bomb damage 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (3, 6) + 3 = 12 plus catch on fire (1d6 fire each round until extinguished, Ref save vs 15)

DM Kalizar |

Round 3 - I assume if the creature is that big I should be able to aim high enough with an explosive without anyone else being caught in the 10' splash range.
The creature is size Huge.
Standard action: Explosive Missle (infuse one shot with power of a bomb (explosive type), load and fire weapon).
Attack: ranged touch attack (burn Grit point for 2nd range increment) + point blank - 2nd range increment 1d20+7+1-1
Pistol damage 1d8+1
Bomb damage 2d6+3 plus catch on fire (1d6 fire each round until extinguished, Ref save vs 15)
The bullet chips away the bark as it strikes near the Creature's face, where can be seen the leg of a young man, partially sticking from a black and twisted maw. It turns to snarl at D'witt, the flames failing to find purchase amongst it's leaves or bark, neither singing nor marring it's faintly luminescent surface.
Roots twist and flail within the grove, a large one squeezing Jennithar tightly, dragging her closer to the Creature's trunk. She looks to you pleadingly, obviously weakened and near death. Her struggling lessens, as she looks to the creature, hurling what appears to be a large snake at the abomination of nature. 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26
The serpent misses the trunk, but lands near the root that grapples the girl, coiling around it and squeezing tightly.

DM Kalizar |

The Creature ignores everyone for the moment, focused upon pulling the young priestess closer to it's great maw. The dark chasm opens, emitting a reddish purple inner fire, a spiraling ring of jagged bark and sharp splintered wood forming row upon row of gnashing teeth. The Creature sinks it's bite into the girl, shoulder to waist, it's crunching cracking sound terrible in time with her bloodcurdling cut short scream. The root pulls back, taking her legs and waist with it, while the upper body disappears in a spray of blood and viscera, showering the grove in a red cascade. Angel is splattered with blood and gore as she charges the Creature, fortunately spared the sight of the girl's face as she is swallowed by the abomination.
Both Angel and Xavorin notice the battling serpent begins to change, transforming from a great constricting snake into the staff that once was Jaroo's symbol of office as high priest of the Grove.
By D'witt are the remains of the former stone altar of this grove, now but detris, a scattered pile of grit and gravel, save for a stange skullbone helm, that of a one-eyed stag, intact with a four point rack of bone white antlers.

Knowledge (nature): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15

D'witt Hirshue |

Round 4
Initiaticve 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
D'witt grimaces at the gruesome fate of the priestess. The grimace quickly changes to rage as the teifling becomes more determined. He spots the bone helm, surprised that it seemed to survive what ever happened to the alter. "Looks important." He thinks for a moment almost fixated by it.
Knowledge, Religion 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
Knowledge, Nature 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
You said it would be a full round action to make a knowledge check. Figured it was probably religion, but thought nature might help. :p
But might not with those rolls. *facepalms*

DM Kalizar |

Whatever it is, it surely is not natural, thinks Conner as he races onwards. Some abomination of those foul priests no doubt. No Treant I've ever heard of would form like that.
D'witt scoops up the strange helm, noticing that one eye is scarred over with rough bone, as though the animal in life had only one eye. Along the inside visor plate, mystic runes and the symbol of Erastil are clearly visible. The helm seems to momentarily pulse with power at his touch, but fades away quickly. I don't thinkit likes me.
Just in case the Creature is capable of multiple attacks, Xavorin casts shield upon himself. Can't be too armored against, well, whatever that is.
Angel has a momentary sense of satisfaction in the blow she lands on the Creature, carving away a chunk of bark and timber beneath. Strange black goo, coats her blade, sizzling away against the holy power Sarenrae sends coursing through her champion's arms. Everlight shine upon your faithful.

DM Kalizar |

The Creature roars at the damage done to it, clearly not expecting such here in the heart of it's birthplace. The soft and tasty souls of the bodies it devoured leaves it hungry for more, thirsting for blood and bone. It turns slowly, facing Angel as it's gaping maw, like a hollow in some old tree, stares black at her, it's eyes dark and burning embers. A symbol appears momentarily to Angel, reflected in that light, but it is gone as the thing lunges for her. Roots erupt from the ground throughout the Grove, twisting and whipping wildly, larger specimens lashing at the heroes, grabbing and pulling towards the thing.
Bite Attack at Angel 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (14) + 12 = 26 Hits

Angel takes a total of 23 points of damage

D'witt Hirshue |

Round 5
D'witt shakes his head, dismissing the helm for the moment, using his tail to hold it as he reloads and takes aim again.
Move action: Move closer to Xavorin and within 20' of creature for 1st range increment.
Standard action: Explosive Missle (infuse one shot with power of a bomb (explosive type), load and fire weapon).
Attack: ranged touch attack + point blank 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 7 + 1 = 20
Pistol damage 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Bomb damage 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (6, 6) + 3 = 15 plus catch on fire (1d6 fire each round until extinguished, Ref save vs 15)
Free action: Call over to Xavorin
"Xavorin! Any idea what this is?" D'witt shouts at the wizard as his tail sways under the weight of the helm.

DM Kalizar |

D'witt's shot once more chips bark from the Creature, marring it's surface and seeping black sap like goo into the wound. The burst of flame flows over the surface, again failing to find purchase amongst the leaves or branches.
It dawns on D'witt that the Creature's bark and tinder reacts very much like the vests and aprons students use when learning their first flammable blends, to prevent accidental self-immolations, the fabrics highly resistant to flames. The Creature is resistant to flames. Oh isn't that just lovely.

DM Kalizar |

Rutcher looks upon the creature in awe and terror, knowing what his men must feel. Stay close to myself or Sir Gareth. Our strength is yours. Eagles, momentarily kissing a starburst pendant worked into his bow, then nocking an arrow. Aim above Lady Lumberjack, protect her while she works.
Deel and Myers are close enough to Rutcher to shift to his side. Cootz is closer to D'witt, Evans on the other side of Xavorin. All the troopers look terrified, nearly ready to bolt. Rutcher's words seem to steady them, for the moment. As one they draw arrows, watching for a shot, voicing the call, Eagles ready.

Sir Gareth d’Orionus |

Round 5
Sir Gareth d'Orionus continues to run following the lightly armored. His thoughts of the investigation are suppressed. Ideas for tactical advantage spray through his mind looking for purchase. He stops as soon as he can see it, awestruck at the size of the malevolence.

DM Kalizar |

"Xavorin! Any idea what this is?" D'witt shouts at the wizard as his tail sways under the weight of the helm.
With sight upon the Creature, you may try a Knowledge check, either Arcana, History, Local, Nature, Planes, or Religion. As this Creature is rare, and lore not widely known, one check per player, using their highest above skill, no action required, but must announce and roll.

Sir Gareth d’Orionus |

Round 6
Sir Gareth d'Orionus slows to a hustle following the lightly armored and approaching the clearing of the grove. He readies his shortbow seeing the destroyed terrain surround the creature. He stops as soon as he can see it, awestruck at the size of malevolence. Light of the Sword, preserve us. What is this thing?
Knowledge (arcana): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
"Thou shalt be destroyed!" d'Orionus proclaims his judgment of justice.

DM Kalizar |

What is this thing? Knowledge (arcana) 23
"Thou shalt be destroyed!" d'Orionus proclaims his judgment of justice.
Justice may not be enough, as Sir Gareth realizes this Creature appears to be the once holy poplar of Erastil, animated and desecrated by another spirit, one of dark and evil nature. For a brief moment, the flickering pulsing light from the thing flashed reminiscent of a demonic possession, only more real, more tangible.

Round 5: Carlson is 160 feet away from the creature, and runs 130 feet towards it.
Well, technically you were 160' at the end of Round 5, 720-40-40-160-160-160=160 so you could run the 130 feet on Round 6, and reroll the attacks on Round 7.
Initiative is as follows:
23 - Carlson
20 - Conner
20 - Creature
17 - D'witt
13 - Rutcher
12 - Sir Gareth
12 - Xavorin
12 - Troopers Cootz, Deel, Evans, Myers
04 - Angel

DM Kalizar |

Xavorin reaches out, casting a fist sized ball of flame at the root that had risen up to attack him. The root, still looking more the poplar less the Creature, scorch and charred under the bolt, burning completely in two. Unfortunately, another section, just as thick, just as strong, burst forth from the ground nearby, threatening the defenders ringing around the Grove.

Round 6
Angel will use LoH as a swift for LoH: 3d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 3, 1) + 6 = 16 healing herself up a bit.. Anyone with a liberating command for dear Angel? lol
Then she will attempt to break free of the monster.. CMB: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (8) + 14 = 22 vs its cmd to break the grapple.. Remember it takes a -4 to dex when it has something grappled, so that will affect its cmd..
well poop.. I don't quite understand why u cant attack with a 2 hand weapon while grappled lol..
Trying with all her might though she is unable to break free, she'll drop her greatsword as a free action at the end of the round..
Oh wait a pull isnt the same as a grapple, so i would have my attacks still right? If so retcon the attempt to break the grapple and dropping of the sword..
Angel will take another swing after healing herself..
Attack: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 14
Dam: 2d6 + 18 ⇒ (5, 5) + 18 = 28
Man the dice roller does hate us.. Can the hero point be used to reroll attacks.. If so.. Her AC is now 25, CMD still 24
Attack: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (10) + 12 = 22

DM Kalizar |

Angel, you are not technically grappled. The roots grab and PULL you, so by RAW, I don't think you actually gained the grappled condition. Someone correct me if I am wrong. I apologize for not stating such in the descriptive text. The roots try to pull you closer to the mouth, but do not impede your actions, they give the Creature a bite bonus and do a little squeeze damage of their own. These actions would actually be your Round 5 choices if you wish to reconsider attacking instead of breaking free. You act last in each round.
edit: Nevermind Angel caught it while I was posting. Yes the Hero Point can be used for the reroll. One question, I have missed something. How does Angel receive a +6 for the LOH? Thanks.

DM Kalizar |

The Creature again lashes out at Angel with root and mouth. She once again feels the hot sulphurous air emitted by the Creature as it once more tries to find purchase for it's broken bark on her armor. She feels it's crushing bite, but her suit holds and the Creature rears back in frustration. Other rooted masses erupt across the Grove, grappling and pulling Rutcher and Evans out into the field as the Creature rises up a few feet taller, standing upon roots larger than most men are tall. It lurches 5' into the Grove, the first steps of a Creature not meant to walk the world.
The step still keeps the Creature adjacent to Angel, but it also brings it to within 15' of Rutcher and Evans. I will adjust the ranges on the discussion list, forgot to do that.

Sir Gareth d’Orionus |

Round 7
Seeing Angel not grappled, d'Orionus changes tactics. He drops his bow and says to the trooper, "Use my magic bow!"
He then charges the creature drawing his greatsword as he closes with a savage battle cry.
