Sir Gareth d’Orionus
So, are you saying Sir Gareth wishes to risk exposing himself as a caster to the staff of the Church and anyone that happens to be nearby?
I do not think it believable that Sir Gareth, a noble Taldan traveler, would be able to recognize the qualities of magical items that the Elder's themselves have to take time and effort, and in some cases additional "identify spell" resources to discern. Whether by mysterious mystic brooch or lucky guess, either would bring on the -5 unlikely, or more applicable -10 far-fetched penalty to his opposed Bluff check.
Further, he would have to give up the time that afternoon to travel to the Church and work with each item. Your call, but he will risk exposing himself to the village, the Elders, and to his teammates.
As you wish. No, Sir Gareth will not expose himself.
My thoughts:
- I did not think it unreasonable if we were offered magic items that we wouldn't be able to examine them before choosing
- If we were allowed to examine them, it did not seem unreasonable that he could be relatively alone with them. After all, he did just save the town with his companions, so trust shouldn't be an issue. And the "elders" have been described as too busy.
- Even if he identified them, Sir Gareth wouldn't have to tell anyone else that he did. He would select the ones that he wanted and suggest choices to his friends. There's no need for far-fetched lucky guesses.
- Even the "elders" can roll badly to identify.
- Even if he didn't get to identify them, he could identify their aura strengths and auras, which improve someone's guess of their usefulness
EDIT I was a bit surprised about your summary of Gareth's day. His first priority was "I would like Sir Gareth to meet and greet the townsfolk to reduce the tension that he created as Justicar."
cheers
DM Kalizar
I would like Sir Gareth to meet and greet the townsfolk to reduce the tension that he created as Justicar."
Sir Gareth, please rewrite your summary to suit your intentions. Please include your trip to the Church and how you see the identification being handled. We will handle this as you desire.
The campaign is on hold until you are ready to continue.
Sir Gareth d’Orionus
The campaign is on hold until you are ready to continue.
Never my intention.
Here's your summary:
- Lady Amelia, relatively quick
- kobold, relatively quick
- Lord Kalizar, relatively quick
- Sir Romidar, nothing
- Elias, off-duty drinking
How about Sir Gareth returns to town proper with his companions. His four points of interest to visit would be the Gundigoot's, Mill, Grove, and Church. He wouldn't be staying long at each. His goal is to meet, greet, pays his respects to the dead, and schmooze like a good politician, ie. making others feel like he is "one" of them. Along the way that covers most of the village, he would introduce himself and schmooze random townsfolk that he crosses, but not delay them long, ie take too much time with each. At the Church, after d'Orionus pays his respects to the dead and the two clerics excuse themselves due to duties, he is given the opportunity to peruse the magic items. That's about 6 hours?
He returns to the Tower for supper and the quick conversations with kalizar, amelia, and kobold. When they all excuse themselves, he meets Elias (who he ran into during the day on duty) at the bar for drinks.
Reasonable?
DM Kalizar
Sir Gareth's post is in effect. The village now treats you all more warmly and hospitably. The Gundigoot's regret their earlier actions and now wish their daughter was dating him instead of D'witt. Insert tongue in cheek
Please let me know how you wish to divide up the following items and once complete we will proceed with the following morning wrap up and launch. Items not claimed will be donated to the village and the mill rebuilding fund.

In case it was missed...
Jaroo's Bronze Dagger of Erastil, bears the symbol of Old Deadeye on the blade. It is magical but not masterwork, and does not offer a bonus to attack or damage. However, as long as you carry the dagger, you manage to find enough food and water in the wilderness to satisfy your hunger and thirst (In addition to any sources you find using the survival skill). You gain a +1 resistance bonus on Fortitude saving throws.
If Erastil is your patron deity, once per day you may speak a command word to use true strike. Once per day you may speak a command word to give a touched thrown weapon, arrow, or bolt the returning property weapon for 1 minute. A magic arrow or bolt that returns does not keep its magical properties but is still usable as masterwork ammunition.
Angel Dawnstar
In order of importance Angel would like,
Headband of Charisma +2
Either of the Pearl of Powers
Mwk Falchion
Potion of Cure Mod
Alchy Fire
Tanglefoot Bag
I realize i will prob not get all of this, it is her wish list from top to bottom is all.. Im willing to talk about what goes where if others want these items..
Imo since whatevers left will go to the village i think we should take anything thats usable.. There will still be plenty enough left for the villager's..
Oh and i think that Ring of the Sophisticate has Sir Gareth's name all over it..
Additionally are you going to look for a replacement for Carlson? If so i put my vote towards a full divine caster.. Cleric, Oracle, or possibly a Druid..
DM Kalizar
1) Maybe Angel can offer the Headband to Xavorin, and take both Pearls, since the group does not have a caster that can use them. Sorcerers don't memorize spells and Alchemists brew elixirs. I leave it to the group to decide. I only bring it up because Xavorin is still dealing with the RL crisis with his family that he mentioned and has been unable to post.
2) Actually, no, I don't think I am going to replace Carlson anytime soon. The party should be able to survive on their own right now. Perhaps after Blackmire, depending on how long that takes, other travelers may arrive in Hommlet and join the group.
Sir Gareth d’Orionus
Sir Gareth would be interested in the...
- Ring of the Sophisticate
- Bird Feather Token (is this thing a one shot item?)
- 1 p. of CMW
He would ensure that Angel takes the 4th level 'divine' Scroll: Protection from Energy & 2 Cure Light Wounds
The group should take:
2 vials of Acid
3 flasks of Alchemist's Fire
2 Smokesticks
2 Tanglefoot Bags
3 Sunrods
7 potions of Cure Moderate Wounds
2 potions of Cure Serious Wounds
Bird Feather Token
4th level Clerical Scroll: Protection from Energy & 2 Cure Light Wounds
Bronze Dagger of Erastil
Small white Pearl of Power 1st Level (Village Identified)
Small beige Pearl of Power 2nd Level (Village Identified)
cheers
Angel Dawnstar
Pro Fire isnt on Angel's list, but she can use the 2 cure lights so she will take the scroll i suppose.. Im fine with the Xavorin taking the headband if he's gonna be with us.. I understand RL happens, but if his character is going to be fading away id rather take the headband tbh.. Otherwise im fine with taking the 2 pearls, but she doesnt have 2nd level spells yet.. Perhaps Sir Gareth can lower his "Dont want the group to know i cast spells aura", lol and then he could use it till i get 2nds..
Sir Gareth d’Orionus

Maybe soon? Apparently, Trooper Elias knows, so why not you guys? Besides, I think 2nd level pearls can be used for 1st level spells, too. Yes, Prot Energy is on the Inquisitor list.
I agree about Xavorin. If he stays, he could also use the Simple brown Cloak of Human Guise, Silver forearm Bracers of AC 1, and Wand of Heightened Charm Person, 3rd CL 5.
DM Kalizar

Trooper Elias' comments were on the old timeline, and have not occurred in this new timeline. The conversation did not last that long in this timeline for the admission to occur. However in that timeline, he did not mention anything about magic, but about serving two masters. Sir Gareth is operating as an "adventuring" Taldan noble yet has letters of introduction drawn up to pass to Andoran authorities. Perhaps Elias thought Gareth was a Lion's Blade.
Conner Hawthorne
Ok, so for Conner...I have.
2 Flasks of Alchemist's Fire
3 potions of Cure Moderate
Bronze Dagger of Erastil
+1 Ring of Protection
Boots of the Mire
If no one objects, I will update profile.

Fair enough. I was just sniping. It's perfectly ok for me and d'Orionus not to know everything going on.
Please don't misunderstand. I do not want to vote Xavorin off the island. I only agreed with Angel. Xavorin's posting is sporadic, and we're concerned that he will fade away, then losing the magic items that he has taken. I hope Xavorin plays as long as I do.
cheers
D'witt Hirshue
If Xavorin wants to continue, I'm happy to have him with us.
Well, I guess I may as pick a few bits.
Masterwork Thieves' Tools (as stated earlier)
Masterwork Longsword
Fire Resistant Red Lamellar Leather Armor +2 (is the resist 10, 20, or 30?)
D'witt would also be willing to pick up what ever alchemical goods and potions are left after Carlson and Xavorin's picks.
Angel Dawnstar
Yea i was in no way suggesting Xavorin be removed.. I was just simply saying that if he isn't going to play and your not gonna bot him than perhaps she should get the headband.. If your willing to bot him, or if he's gonna play im perfectly fine with letting him have the headband..
Personally i want him to stay.. AS our only form of arcane caster losing him will hurt, ntm that will put us down to 4 party members.. I mean he just hit 6th level and he could pick up haste.. Thats a game changer at this level..
Also, are Hero Points gained at each level, or when just when you deem worthy?
Angel Dawnstar
And our Arcanist returns! By all means have the headband.. Additionally we the humble physical damage dealers would love you forever if you were to select haste as your 3rd level spell.. Please..
Ok so im adding to Angel
1st level pearl
2nd level pearl
potion cure mod
alchy fire
tanglefoot bag
mwk falchion
clerical scroll until Sir Gareth comes out of the closet..
and her 113gps
Any chance theres a mwk comp longbow(+4str) to be bought in this town? If not what ranged weapons are for purchase?
DM Kalizar
If everyone else is set, I will confirm the equipment choices, character updates and begin the journey to Blackmire either tonight or in the morning. If you have not yet responded with your character update, here or privately, please do so now. Last chance to make changes before being locked in and needing to use the rebuild rules in the Ultimate Campaign book.
D'witt Hirshue
I think you summed up D'witt's night perfectly. I wouldn't what to change it any. I can post a 'morning after' bit if you like or just add it to the next post.
Also, if no one else wants them (and if it's not too late) I think D'witt could get some use out of the boots of elven kind.
And if I read right the left over alchemy and potions come to:
2 smoke sticks
3 sunrods
2 cure moderate wounds
2 cure serious wounds
No sense leaving them behind
Side note: D'witt already has one, so some one should grab the cloak of resistance +1, Xavorian maybe instead of the cloak of human guise. Up to him.
So, if no one objects (Xarovin, feel free to grab a potion or two if you want. Best to have them spread out.):
Masterwork Thieves' Tools (as stated earlier)
Masterwork Longsword
Fire Resistant Red Lamellar Leather Armor +2 (is the resist 10, 20, or 30?)
Boots of Elven Kind
2 smoke sticks
3 sunrods
2 cure moderate wounds
2 cure serious wounds
DM Kalizar
OK, going over my notes and everyone's posts on choices, I have divided things up as follows. Please let me know what changes need to be made, if any. The spoilers are viewable by everyone, just used for division purposes.
I have Angel taking the following:
1 flask of Alchemist's Fire
1 potion of Cure Serious Wounds
1 Masterwork Falchion
2 Tanglefoot Bags
1 small white Pearl of Power 1st Level
1 small beige Pearl of Power 2nd Level
1 soft brown Cap of Human Guise
1 5th level Clerical Scroll: Protection from Energy & 2 Cure Light Wounds (I made an error on the original post, this is a 5th level scroll as Protection from Energy is a 3rd level spell)
113 gp
I also have Angel taking 2 skill points in Religion, 1 in Perception, with +1 HP for the favored class bonus. Acceptable?
2 flasks of Alchemist's Fire
3 potions of Cure Moderate Wounds
1 simple gold band Ring of Protection +1
1 pair of muddy brown Boots of the Mire
1 Stag Helm
1 Bronze Dagger of Erastil
1 brown leather Cloak of Resistance +1
113 gp
I also have Conner taking 2 skill points in Bluff, with +1 HP for the favored class bonus. Acceptable?
1 set of Masterwork Thieves Tools
1 Masterwork Longsword
1 Masterwork Dagger
1 suit of Fire Resistant Red Lamellar Leather Armor +2
1 pair of soft grey cloth Boots of Elvenkind
2 vials of Acid
2 Smokesticks
3 Sunrods
2 potions of Cure Moderate Wounds
113 gp
I see D'witt having 1 skill point less than posted, as he had no favored class bonus for Gunslinger, so I left off a point in Knowledge Arcana. Acceptable?
1 potion of Cure Serious Wounds
1 Bird Feather Token
1 silver etched, emerald set Ring of the Sophisticate
113 gp
I cannot locate how Sir Gareth gained an extra orison. Can you assist me with this?
1 set of Silver forearm Bracers of AC 1
1 Gold circlet with red garnet Headband of Alluring Charisma +2
1 Ash Wand of Heightened Charm Person, 3rd CL 5, with 10 charges remaining
2 potions of Cure Moderate Wounds
1 Masterwork Dagger
113 gp
Remaining items either to be chosen or gifted to the village of Hommlet:
A gold necklace of thick links, valued at 100gp
An Ulfen cloak pin, valued at 50gp
Masterwork Greataxe
2 Masterwork Agile Breatplate
Masterwork Chainmail
Masterwork Heavy Steel Shield
Chain Shirt +1
Eel Hide Studded Leather +1
Red and grey cloth Cloak of Fiery Vanishing
Simple brown Cloak of Human Guise
Small Flickmace +1
113gp, set aside as Carlson's share
Angel Dawnstar
She took a potion of cure mod, not cure serious, only 1 tanglefoot bag, and didnt take the cap of human guise..
I forgot about her bonus human skill point, 1 to religion, 1 to perception, 1 to sense motive.
Otherwise correct..
Additionally do we get another hero point when we level, or will those be handed out at other times?
Sir Gareth d’Orionus
Good catch. Gareth should have only nine orisons. I can't remember the last one I added, do you? I would lose Disrupt Undead or Daze.
Gareth only took a Cure Moderate potion. D'Witt has both Serious potions, I think.
cheers
DM Kalizar
I altered the disposition of the Cure Serious Wounds potions, as some players seemed inclined to opt for additional Cure Moderate Potions instead. If you wish, I can change this back.
I also added a few items to the characters, as the group had mentioned wanting to take as much as possible.
The cap of human disguise will allow the wearer to take on the appearance of a small human child, an adult Halfling or adult gnome. It may be used by any small or medium humanoid. You may take it or leave it.
Sir Gareth d’Orionus
Sir Gareth will take the cap of human disguise if no one wants it. It would be too useful to sell.
Did you give the two serious wounds to the front-liners: Gareth and Angel? Even though they can both heal and want others to be protected, it might be better. I'll change my char sheet to serious.
cheers
D'witt Hirshue
*facepalm*
Forgot that I took alchemist as favored, not gunslinger. Arcana is fine. I'll fix it on my sheet too as soon as I can. Everything else is good too.
Fireball, huh? I don't have a problem with that. :p
Also, I may be a bit late my next post. Laptop cord gave up the ghost, as it were. Hope to replace it by Monday.
DM Kalizar
Reading back over the posts, I noticed I missed a question from Angel. One Hero Points was gained at the level boost. Players should increase their current total by 1 point, for successfully having defended Hommlet and stopping the threat created by the hidden cult. Used points were not replenished, when used they are gone for good unless advised otherwise at the time spent. Please confirm your current Hero Point totals. Also, the maximum Hero Point total a character may possess is three, barring any feat that increases that number, though temporary points may increase this for a short duration.
Also, anytime you feel someone does something particularly heroic, let me know privately for consideration of awarding a Hero Point.
Angel Dawnstar
And there's no arguing that fireball is good.. Well at least until we run into fire resistant stuff.. I was just simply stating that besides Xavorin the entire group are physical damage dealers, therefore haste would add far more damage than a 6 dice fireball would have.. All i was saying..
And how do you have 3 Conner? We only started at 1 and have only leveled once.. Seems the max would be 2 baring a heroic deed i suppose..
Conner Hawthorne
I calculated starting at 1, +1 for the Level Boost, and +1 for clearing Homlett. If it should only be 2, please let me know. I was just interpreting the post by GM Kalizar, I hope correctly.
DM Kalizar
Really enjoying the Mythic Adventure rules thus far. I could see adding them to the campaign, so much potential for a group seeking to end Rovagug's release, on both sides of the DM screen. Would have to be a group decision though. While I might offer a boon or two, we would only go mythic with your consent.
