I haven't read over them much, but i have nothing against becoming more powerful lol..
I suppose i could buy the pdf of mythic rules if we decide to do this..
DM Kalizar
I would not require anyone to purchase anything extra to play the game; I believe the material will be in the SRD sometime soon. That said, I have found the book to be a good investment, so the pdf would not be a waste for anyone interested in optional rules. The would be great to set apart a character or two in any game, if not the pc's, then for powerful NPC's and the odd BBEG. Add something a little extra now and then keeps it fun and new.

I had decided the Perception check would be a base 10, as Angel was not trying to hide, +1 because Conner was over 10' but less than 20' away, +5 for the terrible conditions for a total of 16, which I thought was reasonable. The reroll was too low. The conditions worsened when the creature moved back into the area.
Angel Dawnstar
So the 16 was actually good? You could have told him, retconing the reroll.. I was just suggesting the reroll if the 16 failed, not telling him it did and to reroll now.. I understand your trying to make it difficult for us and all but killing her with a monster that wasnt meant to be defeated is a bummer.. Ntm it throughs a wrench into continuing the storyline..
Angel Dawnstar
Sir Gareth dont kill yourself trying to save her.. She's gone.. Its plan was a snatch and retreat and there's nothing we could do to stop it.. We picked the obvious trail to the keep and it just so happened to contain a monster we had no chance to deal with, so 3 move on and ill make another character.. And by move on i mean back to town before even stepping foot in the keep..

I apologize for not posting yesterday, and the short post today. I have suffered a mild micro stroke and am dealing with some "real" paralysis.
The monster "not meant to be defeated" is a Chuul with the Young template, CR6. It grabbed a player randomly, in this case the paladin, a pc which could have declared a series of smite evil strikes that may have done it some severe harm, even with a dagger (+11/+6 for 1d4+10 damage each without hero point). Combined with the fact the rest of the party put the creature at below half HP in two rounds makes it hardly undefeatable. At a third HP the creature would flee seeking an easier meal. Should I as DM retcon a player's hero point use because another player convinced him to use it before I could rule on the action? Bad dice and poor decision making by one player put the group here. The group is trying to keep the game going. I have thrown more than a few bones into this to stave off a pc death. It might have been noticed, but apparently wasn't, that I did not actually have the creature grab Angel with it's actions this round, instead moving and taking a half hearted swipe at Conner. I pulled the punches already a couple times in this battle. I will review these decisions and deal with them later tonight or tomorrow morning, after I get my body back under control.
Would the players of the game please email me privately with what you want me to do with this situation? I would like your feedback before I make my decision for moving forward.
Angel Dawnstar
Angel had no idea what was attacking her.. Most animals/creatures seeking just a meal are neutral, so smite really wasn't an option for something that was most likely neutral.. It just so happens that it was evil.. I couldnt waste my swift action on detect evil because i was LoH's every round.. When my 19 attack roll failed i figured maybe i had a 50/50 chance to hit it with my dagger (without power attack), so i thought it a better option to just try and escape it.. Obviously i should have just attacked it and had i known it was evil i would have smited it.. Hindsight is always 20/20.. Sorry if i seemed irratated, but heavy armor and water monsters dont mix..
Angel Dawnstar
My opinion is you've already pulled mutiple punches with the creatures actions and what happens etc.. It is what it is.. I already have a cleric designed if its decided that Angel goes with the light.. Not that i want her to die, just in case so im not holding everything up..
D'witt Hirshue
Sorry for being absent so long. Ended up getting a whole new laptop. Drained the slush fund to do it. But it's new and shiny.
Now I have to play catch-up with about about a 100 posts in just this game. :p Better get started.
Angel Dawnstar
Well good to see you back D'witt.. YOu've missed out on some major action.. Well by major i mean Angel has gotten herself almost eaten by a big ass lobster thing.. Outcome still to be determined.. Its not a pretty sight..
D'witt Hirshue
So I've noticed. :p
At, least I made it back for round 3.
I hope you're feeling better Kalizar. A stroke of any magnitude is no joke.
As for the fight, how well would darkvision work underwater?
DM Kalizar
Sorry for the delay. The past two days took more out of me than I realized. Needed the rest today.
I have read back over everyone's posts, as well as my own, the entire campaign again. I truly wish to continue this game, and for everyone to have fun. That said, I have tried to stay true to the spirit of the original source materials, be it modules, articles, or discussions with the creators. For much of which, the themes have passed through multiple editions of D&D, and do not equate uniformly with Pathfinder. Some scenes may be more deadly than a "balanced" approach allows.
I am doing my best to keep the challenges within the CR range of the characters. This may not always be possible, or preferable. For me, the story will trump the numbers, the reward will be commensurate to the risk. I hope everyone can understand and accept this. I am out to tell the story of a mysterious cult of Rovagug, bringing out the means to release him from his Gods-spawned prison, back into the world, and the heroes who rise up to stop them. Heroes come and sometimes heroes go, even in the greatest sagas.
If I ever wanted to directly challenge or kill a PC, I wouldn't. I would come to you directly, say "hey, I know you did this, that or the other thing, I don't care for it, I won't have it, so you're out." Play styles may clash, ideas may be different, goals at odds. We are all human and have human emotions, needs, or drives. I understand this and try to see the other side when I am at odds. I want us all to have fun. This is a game. There is no money reward, no boon to be had, no mansion and bevy of beauties at the end of it. We all win if we have fun, we all lose if don't. This is a we game, not a me game, not a you game.
Let's try to play as a team and work together, or rather you guys work together. You are in this to expand upon your own unique stories. Lost loves, treacherous families or governments, high adventures, finding your places in the world. You can do that together, helping one another. Try to be more inclusive. At times I think we have a little us and them, me first-ness, whether intended or not, out there. Maybe I'm wrong. A few of my friends that snoop the game agree.
For me, I'm trying to tell a story. If I kill you, it's not personal. As DM, part of me has a plan to see Golarion cast into darkness, the children of Rovagug heralding his triumphant return, raining Armageddon down upon the world. That's for dark days and a shadowed past. The better part of me wants to see his plans thwarted, those conniving with his people given their own good comeuppance, the world saved for the common man who may never know what has even transpired.
That's where I need you guys to come in. I don't cheat, I don't lie, I don't change things up to make it harder or worse for anyone, fiend or favor alike. I use Hero Labs to make characters, add templates, track character sheets. It keeps it all balanced. I hope everyone else can agree to do the same. Let's make this a great story, play our roles, however or wherever they lead, and see how it all turns out. Agreed?
DM Kalizar
Welcome back D'witt. I am feeling better, weak but better. I had some weakened muscle control/hemiparesis and still have some tingling, but better.
Darkvision will work underwater, the issue still being the silt cloud rather than light source.
As Round three nears end, only one left to act is you. I will post a Round 4 Map once you have acted.
To recap, you are on the bank next to Xavorin. Sir Gareth is in the water, 10' out from shore 15' deep. Conner is 15' out from shore 20' deep. Angel is perhaps in the range of 10-20' from shore, over 25' deep. The Creature is in the same rough area as Angel. Perception check to spot either target DC 18, miss chances and cover apply depending upon the action taken.
Angel Dawnstar
Well said.. For this game has been my all time favorite pbp.. The reason is the flavor and obvious time invested to make it realistic.. I know it was nothing personal.. It was just frustrating to get owned at the mill, when we were obviously majorly outgunned.. That and feeling helpless here just kinda put me on the edge.. I apologize for that and will strive to stay focused in the future.. That said i look forward to moving forward with this campaign and stopping the Rovagug fiends, if i do this with Angel great, if not thats fine too..
On a side note how do you feel about Aasimars?
DM Kalizar
I assume Conner is taking his second action to swim to shore. Taking 10 would do so.
The creature holds, guarding his potential meal. Next up is the D'witt and Xavorin on shore, Sir Gareth in the water. When back to Angel, she will fall unconscious, staring at the reddish green mottle of the creature's hard and crusty shell.
D'witt Hirshue
Now I start coming up with plans. :p
I don't know if I can pull one off in time tho. Or if it would even be effective.
But, IC, D'witt wouldn't be sure how long Angel has and would still be trying to save her.
Sir Gareth d’Orionus
In case it needs stating, rounds will continue until Angel is rescued or passes, dependent upon party actions. Xavorin and D'witt remain for Round 5.
yep. that's why I continued my Round 5. This ain't over yet...
DM Kalizar
Ok guys, let's run down where you are and what you need to do.
Angel is drowning, she is at -1 HP. End of Round 6 is technically when she dies, if she remains below -1 HP. D'witt is the last to act for this round.
In order to get Angel out of harm's way, you need to be able to lift her 30' through the water, breaching the surface, heal her, or get air into her. She is paralyzed until you are not sure when.
Swimming I have been giving you half move per action, just yourself swimming. Swim and lift will slow you some. No one underneath is strong enough to lift her solo or cover the distance needed in 1 round. You will need to work together.
One swimmer would lift, the others assist, and Xavorin assist with a pull, or Xavorin would drag and the others assist, pushing her weight up along the bank. Either way, you would be increasing the carry capacity of the one lifter with each successful assist, limited by the movement capability of the one lifting.
Good luck, you are on your own now.
Sir Gareth d’Orionus
Although Sir Gareth made his swim check, he is too slow to break the surface as the primary swimmer. He has two options:
Two questions:
1. If she is healed above 0 while underwater, will she die at the end of round 6?
2. Can d'Orionus realize the futility of his actions in round 6 and try something else.
Option 1: if question 1 is a NO, then he could try to heal her with a concentration check
Option 2: if question 1 is a YES and question 2 is YES, he will roll a strength check to lift.
If we knew that Option 2 was certain that would be best, otherwise Sir Gareth has a 65% chance to heal her or 100% burning another hero point.
Answers? Opinions?
DM Kalizar
Healing would not stop the drowning, but would give Angel additional time, if it brings her above 0.
Please look at your encumberance options, swimming folks. Angel, gear and all, weighs in at 300 lbs, ish. (Not nice to give a woman's actual weight).
At that, the best you could hope for is 10' per successful swim check, so 20' per round. The rope pull option may work better, if you can improve Xavorin's lift potential but however you wish to proceed.
High strength rolls will not increase your encumbrance limit, but every successful aid another check will. DC10 checks for strength needed. Critical success will further modify the results.
Sir Gareth d’Orionus
She will die at the end of this round. I don't see an option to get her above the water (30 ft) in that time.
Sir Gareth will attempt to heal her to give her more time.
D'witt start pulling with Xavorin!
Angel Dawnstar
Nice build up to sadness and bringing it back.. I was sad when it thought she had died, but very happy to see that she actually made it.. Wow! Have you wrote books before?
DM Kalizar
I've written more for pleasure, not so much for publication, though I did publish some poetry back in my school days. Thought about trying it for real but have never taken the next step.
Hope everyone enjoyed the scene, and understands that I couldn't make it too easy in bringing Angel back. Cure Light Wounds is really no substitute for the damage that occurs internally in a drowning, but you guys were willing to make the push for it. Sir Gareth and Conner receive a Hero Point for their extra efforts in the her safe return.
Let me know what the lineup is going to be moving forward. You still will be single file, approaching the corner and around the side, scoping out the damaged wall section for a possible entrance.
Angel Dawnstar
And please dont take my last post as b$#*~ing GM, because im not.. In fact it was supposed to be funny seeing as how i might be falling in the water for a 2nd time..
Angel Dawnstar
She started with a wand of cure light wounds.. She used 5 charges after the tree fight and 3 just then.. 42/50 charges left..
