All right, I've mostly leveled up. I don't think I'll be taking the Leadership feat, since my leadership score will only get me an 8th level cohort (maybe 10th, depending on how generous Thron will be with my renown) unless I set up a stronghold and really pump my Charisma up somehow.
So I think even Lorthan is beyond me.
I'll probably go with Greater Spell Penetration unless someone suggests something better.
But yay! Eighth level spells!

I have Jeevika at 19 or 20.
15 Base, +2 Charisa, +2 Great Renown, +1 Fairness/Generosity = 20
There might be a -1 there if Elthariel is not Chaotic Good (different alignment penalty). However, a 19 is still enough to get a Level 13 follower.

I think I'm done leveling. I picked up spell perfection for battering blast, a relatively useless bloodline power, and a couple more seventh level spells known (also useless given our huge library of tomes now).

I've leveled too now. I took Great Fortitude. Can now use Charmed Life 6/day, and the usual +1 HD, BAB, 4 skill ranks, etc.
I thought about Leadership but am not sure about the time commitment of handling a cohort. Happy to RP with them some though.

I think that they're all willing to help us, but only the cohorts would be the ones who actually venture into danger/combat with the Rangers. I can't say that I know what the regular NPCs would be willing to do besides perhaps keep guard if asked.

I was imprecise. I wanted thoughts on me taking on Lorthan as a cohort. The other option is taking Greater Spell Penetration.
The in-game reason for Lorthan and Elthariel joining and not Gadgorin was what I was getting at.

Here’s the story on those 2:
She is of elvish nobility, and he a bit of a freak-show monstrosity. He was a friend of the mage who initiated the whole recruitment effort. The pair first recruited Elthariel and Gadgorin, and Lorthan was immediately enamored with her. But then they recruited a human paladin, whom Elthariel found a romantic connection to. She knows Lorthan has feelings for her, but she has a hard time getting past his appearance, her expectations of marriage given her station, and his often times stand offish attitude towards the guy she actually liked.
She is currently mourning his loss, and Lorthan is giving her as much space as his feelings allow. But he can’t change how he feels. So it’s a bit of Beauty and the Beast thing going there. How it develops...we will have to see.
As to their stats: they are not fleshed out. I was leaving that to you guys, should they be taken. Their classes and races are listed: 15 Point Buy, and half WBL gear.

Here's an updated Ethariel. She is now strictly a vanilla ranger who uses almost entirely Core material. As for Fenrir, Rangers do indeed get animal companions as an option at Level 4, and thanks to Ultimate Wilderness, Boon Companion is now a Core feat!

Any games I run are going to be small in scope, if not outright bite-size. My track record with long games is miserable on here, so I'm keeping things shorter. Apart from that, it will be 5e, it will be homebrew (built up with the players contributing).

Thron, for the purposes of this game, do a creature's remains count as said creature or an object? We discussed it briefly, but I am unsure of what we ultimately settled on.
Jeevika would be interested in running her new Discern Location spell for a trace of Setsuna, but if it was literally impossible, then she would obviously never attempt it.

Thron, I'm building Lorthan and I've got to say, a double weapon build on an enlarged frame is just not very optimal. Since he needs a Dex of 15 for Two-Weapon Fighting and takes a -2 penalty to Dex for enlarge person, that means he needs a 17 Dexterity. Which basically means I waste a lot of build points to crank up his Dex or I spend a lot of gold for a Dex-boosting item. Or a mix of both, when any sane player would just go max strength with a two-handed weapon.

What about allocating his level up stat points (e.g. the stat bonuses from Levels 4, 8, and 12) in Dex? You could just pretend he took the Two-Weapon Fighting feat(s) later. His Half-Dragon template and Rage bonuses should give him plenty of Con and Strength as is.

It is kinda the point given his insane buffs from half dragon and disciple and raging. He will already be more than fine in the Str and con department, so boosting his Dex some shouldn’t hurt the overall build.
Plus, they aren’t the stars of this show. The main PC’s are. So they SHOULD feel a bit weaker.
If they were better optimized, they’d have likely not been goldfish. Hehe

Also, just because a weapon has two ends doesn't mean you have to attack with them. You could just wield the double sword as a two handed weapon and ignore two weapon fighting entirely. The flavor could be that he uses one end for offense and one end for parrying/defense.
Might do slightly less damage than a "greatsword" or earth-breaker, but it's perfectly legal/legit in my mind.

Yeah, I was thinking he might carry it, having a blade of adamantine on one end, and some other material for the other (probably mithril). But I'll see what I come up with in the Dex build.

So, I've just realized that Eugeni has access to both blood money and simulacrum. With his 12 strength, that means he can make a 10 HD simulacrum copy of a normally 20 HD creature. My reasoning is that it would do 11 str damage to me, and cost 5,000 gold of rubies normally.
If we want to actually pay the 500 GP/HD we can make something up to 30 HD/15,000 GP.
Either way this is something that we'd do once we're outside the Runeforge.
It appears to be the same as the original, but it has only half of the real creature’s levels or HD (and the appropriate hit points, feats, skill ranks, and special abilities for a creature of that level or HD).
The possibilities seem ridiculous, but here are a couple options that popped into mind right off the bat.
Mature Gold Dragon - Huge flier, breath weapon, spells, etc.
Efreeti - free wishes not tied to caster level (CL 11...doesn't appear to be linked to its HD or what spells it can cast).
Anyone else think of something good for Eugeni to create?
