The Half-Dead City
(1 of 6): In Wati, the half city, the church of Pharasma holds a lottery allowing explorers to delve the tombs of the city’s vast necropolis in search of the nation’s lost glories. In the course of investigating dusty tombs and fighting their ancient guardians and devious traps, the heroes encounter a rival adventuring group intent on keeping one tomb’s treasures for themselves. At the same time, the heroes learn that a potent artifact, potentially capable of animating the dead, has been stolen from the tomb. Can the adventurers defeat their rivals, or will they join the undead defenders of the city’s necropolis?

I figure testing for undead with that spell is a decent method.

Entering the crypt the party notices a pedestal with a mummified figure on the top. A stairway down is at the far north side, you entered a stairway down on the south.

The mage fires a spell at the corpse, and, the charade over, a mummified figure attacks.

Dusty informs you that the creature is an adherer:
Adherers look vaguely like embalmed and mummified corpses wrapped in dirty linen, but they are in fact otherworldly beings of an entirely different nature. Transformed by hideous processes on the Ethereal Plane, their bodies are riddled with tiny, adhesive strands that can stick to anything, allowing adherers to bind their enemies' weapons and capture living creatures for their depraved rituals.

tribute, i don't think an adherer is an undead, but is an monstrous humanoid.

Male Human Ranger (Divine Tracker/Trapper) 4

I assumed it wasn't undead from the description as 'otherworldly beings' -- otherwise my FE bonus would have kicked in (not that it would likely have mattered with the low roll)

Asaran misses the prone undead, but the whip strikes him and leaves a mark. Not doing as much damage as you would think, the adherer seems resistant to physical damage. The whip clings to the adherer.

Asaran is enlarged!

Enlarged:
The target gains a +2 size bonus to Strength, a –2 size penalty to Dexterity (to a minimum of 1), and a –1 penalty on attack rolls and AC due to its increased size.

A humanoid creature whose size increases to Large has a space of 10 feet and a natural reach of 10 feet. This spell does not change the target's speed.

The end result is +1 to hit from STR, but -1 from size, so that's a wash.

+1 to STR for damage, which with a +3 becoming a +4 would increase 2H DMg from +4 to +6.

Increase base damage dice on weapons due to size increase.

-1 to AC from DEX, -1 to AC from size, so -2 to AC.

Gain 10' size and 10' reach.

Asaran does more damage to the creature, although it seems resistant to his attack.
