checking in, I'll make sure to have my first set of spells prepared for the pick when I post in Gameplay.

Well...I need to go ahead and withdraw from this game.
Unfortunately, I sometimes get excited by a really cool sounding campaign and forget that I do not enjoy the process of Play-by-post gaming. I just need to admit that I probably won't be around for the long haul on this game so it would be better to acknowledge that right now and bow out before things get going.
I fully intend to read along and see how this game plays out and I hope everyone has a blast. Have a great game everyone!

Nadarr says, "There are many ways one can offer tribute. This one is mine."
I had to doublecheck your alignment when you did that, I and was scratching my head. You meant to write CN right, not CG?
And I'm like right next to the guy you just shot, so I'm already in melee. I hope he doesn't have a backup army waiting for him. He seems like he is alone, but let's hope he really is.

Yes, the character is chaotic good. He also had his entire clan wiped out by marauding orcs and is in no mood to kowtow and cough up gold for tribute to bandits. If you choose to run a character with the [coward] tag, go for it. But don't expect me to cater to it.

Okay, I guess he is a bandit. Wasn't sure if he was alone or not. I honestly thought he was an innocent man being forced and threatened to serve an Ogre, and I was thinking more down the lines of helping him out and killing the Ogre for him and telling him he no longer has to do this.

Over analyzing these encounters can be a mistake :-)
The fact that we were both too critical of one another didn't help either. :-( While not having a map can speed things up and make life a lot easier for the GM, it can also cause some confusion among players as to exactly where everybody is. That is not an insurmountable problem, but it is one that has to be taken into account.

My own two cents:
1) Don't concern yourself with what other people's character sheet say. That's been the player and the GM.
2) Don't use intentionally provocative language (coward). We aren't really sure of each character's motivations yet, we've all just met.
3) If this is truly being run in the 1e style, fight everything was not the designed intent. I expected combat was a likely outcome from the encounter, but when someone is obviously trying to talk their way out of a situation, you might just want to roll with it. There will be plenty of 'just fight' encounters later with little chance of talking our way around them. Also keeping in mind the 1e design style, not ever fight is a balanced one.
4) Let's not let little stumbles in the beginning detract from the fun we are having!
All said, I am quite enjoying this so far =)

Just a thing that I was told by DMs who convert from one addition to 5e, whether it would be from 3.5 or 1.0 or 2.0 to 5e is that in 5e you don't need a whole lot of gold. So if there is an area where we would get like 2000 gold, it would be more like 500. This is because you can't buy magic items in 5e, unless of course you are house ruling it that we can.

First, apparently new PHB errata was just published if anyone is interested. Here.
Second, I thought I had a trinket, but alas I do not. So...1d100 ⇒ 49 A silver spoon with an M engraved on the handle.
Third, I just realized for some insane reason I have a light crossbow listed on my character sheet in the weapon section but a shortbow listed in the gear section. Since I can use a crossbow and we found 3, I'll take one of them and 10 bolts if there is no objection.
