Four hundred and fifty plus years is a long time for a colony to be isolated. A lot of funny things happen to people when they are isolated from the rest of humanity for that long. What will become of these people?

Wow, you guys get busy on the weekend.

I agree that Ceres should go with the Lightbearer.

I'm willing, OOC, to volunteer to go on it as well. IC, Holt wouldn't volunteer because she wouldn't want to abandon her responsibilities. She would gladly take the mission if assigned it, however.

It might be a good idea to get some extra time on the ship too. As long as whoever goes takes supplies to handle emergencies that shouldn't be too dangerous.

Map | Captain | Stamina 28/28 | Lifeblood 12/12 | AC 16/12/14 | Ref +3 Fort +2 Will +7 | Init +2 |

I would like atleast two people with passable technological competence with Ceres on the Lightbringer, so that they can 'stand watch' in shifts. IE sit at the bridge and react appropriately on any alert or incoming communication.

And yes, a few hours extra on the ship would not be amiss ... : )

So Holt and Fernan?

Map | Captain | Stamina 28/28 | Lifeblood 12/12 | AC 16/12/14 | Ref +3 Fort +2 Will +7 | Init +2 |

They won't need any actual piloting skills (since they just have to interpreted the alarm correctly and wake/fetch Ceres) and I rather have the second-best (space) pilot on the Dawn to ensure that it leaves properly.

And I believe Holt is second-in-rank, so it would make sense to leave her in command of the Dawn (I don't think Ziirkaa is an officer - correct me if I am wrong).

So, Vathan my friend, how would you like to slip into this corpses suit ... :P?

Dawn:
Fernan (Pilot)

Lightbringer:
Ceres - since she 'took' it. (Pilot)

Unassigned:
Vathan
Ophelia
Lady Annara
Doctor Ziirkaa

Either Ophelia or Ziirkaa will remain on the Dawn, as acting commander. I believe Ophelia has rank on the doctor, and is the one most likely for Ceres to pick (IC, and she already did). We can reverse this if we really want.

Lady Annara could be useful to have on the Lightbringer in case the sensors decide to not cooperate anymore - but then we would be dragging our 'not-to-be-harmed' noble into our dangerous gambit.

Vathan is our wild-card and will be exceptionally handy in case we find the stereotypically 'dangerous alien/monster' stuck on our new, partially unexplored shuttle.

Deja vu. I started the same exercise several posts back.

Think the Doctor should stay aboard the Dawn with the bodies. He has a navy rank and could be commander.

I asked everyone for the pilot and technical skills, in order to optimize the decision, because I'm too lazy to mine your character sheets...

cheers

Ziirkaa is academic, not navy, so he's not in the command structure. Unless I misremember. However, even if he's in the Navy proper, medical ranks are not in the command structure, generally.

Roger. Then Holt will most likely be acting captain of the Dawn.

The Doctor's knowledge could certainly be useful aboard the Lightbringer - and he is Navy, so he can be relied on to not screw up his watch :P

Holt can handle sensors and command of the Dawn, Fernan the piloting.

Now the question is if we should bring the Lady or Vathan aboard the lightbringer. Honestly, it seems out of character to ask the noble to leave without any of the bodyguards, so I guess Vathan is coming with us. His physical prowess could come in handy too. Always handy to have some muscle around.

Suggested loadout:

Dawn:
Holt (Commander; Sensors & Comms)
Fernan (Pilot)
Annara (Can check in with the Lightbringer using her powers, should comms break down)

Lightbringer:
Ceres (Commander: Pilot)
Ziirkaa (Sensors & Comms)
Vathan (Handyman, insurance against hostile elements)

Thoughts ?

Just note that Ziirka's medical equipment is in the Dawn, so he will be unable to perform autopsies on the corpses on the Lightbringer.

@Ceres, That sounds like a good layout to me. Again, my biggest concern for the Lightbearer at this point is if it can actually leave the larger ship. Any plans on if that happens? I know you guys don't have demolitions, but want to take my satchel of C4?

I think that setup makes the most sense IC. The only ones we can really swap around (from a skills and rank point of view) are Anarra and Ziirkaa, but it doesn't seem right to send the protected representative that is nearly comatose to a ship that we have never seen or operated before.

Map | Captain | Stamina 28/28 | Lifeblood 12/12 | AC 16/12/14 | Ref +3 Fort +2 Will +7 | Init +2 |

My post was merely intended to give people something to interact with : )

Next post IC will be the crew assignments, which I will post in the morning. Thus everyone will have one last chance to pick/suggest where their character goes!

@Ophelia - Good thinking. My plan B was to engage whatever weaponry the Lightbringer possesses at the hangar door. But the more contingencies, the better.

I am fine with Vathan going to the lightbearer. However he needs convincing, cajoling, and maybe threatening to leave annara's side. He is not trained to be in space let alone leave his ship. And he will be very uncomfortable doing anything untrained.

Good luck.

Attention crew (and mdt)!

I'm going away for a few days (until Sunday) and internet will be exceptionally rare.

Take care of the ships while I'm gone and try not to kill anyone :P

If it comes down to a life-or-death Int check, please use Ceres 1/day take 2 dice and pick the better one. Otherwise feel free to run/bot her as the general consensus demands.

Ceres out.

Press-gang would work, too.

Yep, figured that would work too. :) It is a valid legal argument, even today, commissions can be reactivated. For that matter, in an emergency situation, people can be temporarily impressed into service.

Posting this in all my games, both run and played in.

As you all know, I've been rather busy and traveling a lot lately. This is going to continue for awhile. Hopefully I'll be able to keep up the posts. It's now confirmed I'll be going on an overseas job for 6 weeks at the end of August, coming back early October. I will hopefully be able to continue posting, but wanted to give advance warning.

I'll be 11 or 12 hours off my normal schedule, as I'm going literally to the other side of the planet. :) First trip to this area, so I'm not sure what the internet will be like, or even if I can get to Paizo. So if, after I leave, I vanish for a month, please don't give up on me, it just means I couldn't connect due to country filters or something.

So this year I have gone from -8 GMT Canada to GMT +0 EU and from the 8th Asia +9 for the next 2 years :)

Holt outburst is a bot extreme the lady is more talking very business like.

@Annara, sorry if that is so, but I got the impression that your character was frustrated and tired of the discussion, and so, full of emotion, let him go.

Sorry me bad, I will always post emotion, should have made it more clear,

She was very cold and unemotional in fact. Shes a noble, you tell others off with out drama and emotion hehe. :)

Hey mdt, would smoking be allowed on the ships? I know that small particles like that are the bane of air scrubbers today, but I wasn't sure if the new technology might be ok with it.

Larger ships can handle it, although they set aside specific areas of the ship. Smaller ships, not really.

Since Ceres and the Doctor are non-available, Hash out what you want to do on the derelict out of character, and I'll post a big long transition post as well as what they find on the ship. I'm assuming one of the first things is catalog what is on the Lightbringer already, and figure out how to get home with available fuel, and figure out how to exit the ship. After that, what do you want to do. The answer will be that the Lightbringer can leave any time in the next 12 hours and still get back to the planet without needing to do fancy maneuvers slingshotting. It'll take it a little over 9 days. Beyond that, it'll need to slingshot and atmospheric break, the longer they stay, the longer it's return trip.

The new hardsuits can withstand the radiation within the ship, as long as they stay to the cooler sections, for up to 8 hours. The older hard-suit can only handle the lower levels up to about 6 hours. It was the high levels outside that cut the trips so short before.

While Vathan will be hesitant/cautious to leave the alien spacecraft, I think we should loot as much. Anything not nailed down, and some stuff that can be pried up. It sounds like people needing to eat would be the limiting time constraint.

Maybe the Doctor and Vathan looting. Him identifying things to take, and Vathan managing the taking.

Maybe Ceres inside the ship housekeeping/moving dead bodies/making cargo room/learning about the Lightbringer. Or with the other two, when it's organized.

So GM, guys how dos Vathan running the show on the new ship sound.
What do you think Vathan you happy to do this wile the others are away.

Vathan are you then going to stay then as long to grab all your team can.
If you do, GM what would they get back. Also GM will we be docking at the space station when we get to the planet?

:) just some idears

I'm suggesting that all the PCs decide what is done on the derelict, then I'll take those decisions and post a 'what happened'.

Yes, you'll dock at the space station.

My vote:

1: Take as much time as you can
2: Meet us back at the Station.

Female Lieutenant Commander [2 Professional / 1 Academic / 2 Navy*] [Stamina 18/11 | Lifeblood: 11/11 | AC: 15 | T: 12 | FF: 13 | Fort: 0 | Ref: 4 | Will: 10 | Init: +2 | Per: +4 | Comb. Eng.: +11] [Easy Recall: 1/1 | Inspired: 1/1]

Agree with both of the first two points.

And I think Vathan hit the nail on the head to grab as much stuff as possible. Just to be more specific, here is my list, in suggested order of importance:
* Gather anything that might contain data - obvious
* Gather any engine parts possible - again, we might be able to study it and discover some new improvements.
* Gather any electronic equipment (even if non-functional or broken) - we might be able to reverse engineer some of it.
* Gather any useful equipment (Vac suits, tools, etc) - there may be improvements that we could use or study.
* Gather anything that seems to have been 'stored' - this could be fuel, medicine, research samples, etc. Even if it is irritated, study might provide some interesting information.
* Gather small pieces of metallic or plastic debris - these could be made of new and interesting materials or alloys.

It also might be a good idea to leave some kind of beacon signalling our location and existence. This thing is going to keep hurtling through space, and even if it takes a long (long, long, long) while, it could mean that other Solomani planets remember our existence. Though if discovered by an enemy...

SOP would be for everyone to log a report. You can be as detailed or cursory as you want to be. Non-Navy personnel would be prompted to give a report.

Mdt

Would it be possible for vathan to use this experience to retrain his professional level to navy? It appears to be more useful.

Cheers

The T20 system doesn't really lend itself to retraining entire careers. However, you'll all be leveling up shortly, and you can absolutely take a new level in Navy going forward. (Not to spoiler anything, but let us just say that everyone is likely to be either inducted into the navy, a newly created marine corp, or the resurrected Merchant Marine branch).

her Ladyship is already in the the Diplomatic Psi-Corps [im playing it , your in Psi Corps for life if trained by them], I have no problem with New Marine Psi-Corps the M-PC or Merchant Marine Diplomatic Psi-Corps. the MMD-PC hehe :)

Such is the learning experience of a new captain...

It seems we got quite a nuisance on our hands!

One one hand, it is probably only an infodump or something similar. But then, the council and command might want to keep the wraps on this for a while longer.

Ceres is thinking of severing the power supply of the ship, preventing any unauthorized messaging. A bit harsh perhaps, but unlike more sophisticated methods - it is assured to work. Assuming we get ALL the power sources.

On the other hand, this might prompt the ship to respond - which is why suiting up seems wise. We'll see!

What do people think ?

I think the things got a pre-recorded message its going to give any lost colony. I would let it talk 1st then blow the C__p out of it if it means harm.

Thinking through what would be in a lost colony protocol, it would need to transmit data. By definition it assumes we were once apart of the whole. I doubt their political scientists missed episodes of star trek and their rules of explorations. Bottomline I don't expect anything inherently bad with the transmission. I do foresee bad things if we attempt to interrupt the protocol.

Soooo agree

Map | Captain | Stamina 28/28 | Lifeblood 12/12 | AC 16/12/14 | Ref +3 Fort +2 Will +7 | Init +2 |

Yeah - interrupting it will probably be Very Bad™.

And the message will probably not harm us in any way.

At least not directly. But does the council and the central command want to deal with the political outfall of this now? And this pretty much reveals to the public what is going on.

While I personally believe that is the right thing to do, politics seldom agree : )

Out of curiosity, where are you going?

11-12 hours and the other side of the world would hint at Asia, wouldn't it : )?

Here in Europe, we are only ~8 hours off from your time at most, and Africa shares pretty much the same time zones ...

Or perhaps Australia (but why go there?)...

Best guess (and stereotypical IT outsource destination): India

Runner up: Japan

Although I have talked to someone who lived there, and had no trouble reaching Paizo website. Apparently pathfinder is more popular than AD&D in Kuwait.
