Well...
You're talking about lifting 10 ton tranparalluminum plates up and into position using an APC rather than a lifter tug, and then welding them in place, with less than 30 people. This is a job that usually requires lifting tugs and 3 crews of engineers (working round the clock) to do.
Basically, imagine building a suspension bridge with 30 people and a single crane. And then imagine doing it in wet suits.
Repairing the dome is a job that will require months of heavy work in rebreathers and ship suits. They didn't blow small holes in it, they took out about 8% of the dome, to make sure it worked and the sulfuric air mixed in quickly enough to kill anyone before the barbituates wore off.
Honestly, your job is really to survey, figure out what is salvagable, what isn't, and what's worth repairing, and what isn't. A full on salvage is going to take thousands of people a year or two to perform.
The way I'm planning on handling this is, you guys are the first eyes on the scene, and what you find and determine is going to heavily influence the High Council. If you recommend repairing the dome and getting the entire colony going, they'll send in half a million people if they have to. If you recommend that the colony be scrapped and salvaged for every thing it can be, they'll send in fewer people and try to move it back home and set up things there.

mdt |

With just the ones you have, no. However, the one sent to the gas giant will arrive about the time you finish the surveys already listed. I'll post that tomorrow if nobody has anything else they want to check on in the ruins by then.

Ophelia Holt |

Hmm, what about setting up a shelter for the people that might come to reclaim this place (either as a new colony or for salvage)? I don't know if our freighter can land here, but it would probably make the job easier for them if there was a place for them to stay and rest outside of their suits, as well as store materials.

mdt |

You could certainly try to get one of the living compounds online. There are a few that were designed to have internal life support, in case the dome failed. Basically 8 story apartment complexes with airlock entrances.

Doctor Ziirkaa |

I am still a fan of checking out the gas giant, and seeing what clues and swag we can find there. That seems like a higher priority to me than getting the colony back on line at this point.
We have a pretty good survey of this planet at this point. Seems to me that it's time to check out the rest of the system.

Ophelia Holt |

If we don't need to wait on the freighter, then I can agree with that as well.

mdt |

I'll post tomorrow hopefully. Been up 19 hours now, wife had reconstructive surgery today on her foot. And I'm in pain, threw my back out lifting her up to get her settled at home.

Viktoria Ceres |

Indeed, our task was to map out further salvage and/or restoration projects and it seems as if we managed to get a fairly good overview of the planet. So I agree with Ziirkaa that it seems that the time has come to move over to something new, like the gas planet. However - I think we should atleast do a flyby over the crashed station to see if something can be salvaged : )
@mdt - Aouch. Hopefully both of you recover swiftly !

Ophelia Holt |

K/Geology and mining/prospecting are both something I am good at. : )

mdt |

Sorry, I'll try to get up a post tomorrow. This one will be a big one, unlike some of the other ones in other games. It will require some focus, and I've been popping pain pills all day.

Ophelia Holt |

Take your time mdt. And sorry to hear that you're in so much pain. I hope you get better soon!

Viktoria Ceres |

Indeed - I will third that. No need to hurry :)
And welcome back Vathan!

Doctor Ziirkaa |

Humn, both Vathan and the Captain have really good ideas.
I forgot that we still haven't taken a close look at the medium freighter at the Lagrange point. Assuming that is on the way to where-ever the gas giant is now, we should swing by and check the freighter out on the way.
:) Feel better mdt.

mdt |

Lagrange point is, stellarly speaking, at your current location. It's basically a few hours travel. So it is on your way to any location in the system, honestly.
If you want to hit the freighter, time wise, now is better than later. Just let me know, should have a post up today.

Ophelia Holt |

Hitting the L-Freighter sounds like a good idea to me, but a survey of the crashed station might be the thing to do first.

Baroness Annara Utoxier-Lee |

From what the GM said the ships need mouths of repair work done to them, don't think we have the time.
Ps
You do know that our freighters not going to come, we will head home to find out why, to find or home world has been attack, orbitly bombarded to a smouldering rock , and we or ship is all that's left.
Q back story to FAR TRADER 01
Intro Titles, cool dramatic music, long shots of CG planets and a lone space craft, with a voice over of the Captain.
"we had been in the dark for years! then when it looked like it had ended! THEY ATTACT. Now we, the last crew fly the space ways looking for hope and vengeance, on the star ship, light bringer!"
Number of head shots with the actors names and characters names.
Fade to scene 1 act 1
sorry just you know thinking

Ophelia Holt |

You forgot the haunting stinger at the end.
The ship flies away from camera into a vast starfield, fading into nothing but the glow of the engines, as the Captains voice softly adds "But do we have what it takes to bring the dawn? Or will we fall to darkness once again?"

Baroness Annara Utoxier-Lee |

yikes I did, cool
See we can Pitch a show.
SiFi channel will pick this up, I guarantee, It will be the next "FireFly" You do know it was the Directors Traveller game right.

Ophelia Holt |

I've heard that.
Also, unfortunately, this show has no wrestling and no sharks mixed with natural disasters, so 'Syfy' won't care.
SIGH
But Fox might pick it up and cancel it a season later!

Ophelia Holt |

It's not her standard role, but can Jessica Alba play Holt?
Or maybe Phoebe Tonkin?

Viktoria Ceres |

Hmm...
Spontaneously, I'd want Patrick Steward in a wig playing Viktoria. Just because :P

mdt |

During the next 'time skip', all crew members of the Lightbearer will be asked to give an informed opinion on the first warp point to traverse.
The Ceska warp point leads to HD105382, a red dwarf star 32.4 light years from Gamma Vellorum. It held two known warp points, one leading to Telthani, and one leading to Gamma 2 Velorum (which you now know went nova). Obviously the trip to G2V would be suicide. However, it is possible the star system holds either new warp points, or previously undiscovered warp points. There was no habitable planets in the system, and no gas giants, only a few rocky remains of previous planets.
The new discovered warp point leads to... an unknown destination. Nothing has transited the warp point, in case it's a type 2 (open/closed) warp point.

Viktoria Ceres |

While I from a grand strategy view loathe to have an unexplored backyard, I feel that the Ceska warp point would be a good start. If we send something trough the unknown warp-point and encounter civilization/intelligence at our first landing we would have no form of misdirection available. They would certainly figure out rather quickly where we came from.
If we search HD105382 and discover another warp-point, and are followed back - they would simply end up in the dead system. From there we could surely spin something : )
Note: Supernovas fade exceptionally quickly (in astronomic terms) and I am most certain that 450 years is more then plenty. The remnants (black holes or neutron stars) aren't really that dangerous if one keep a respectful distance. Unless one is hit by a jet that is!
On the other hand, I am not sure how if warp-points and astrophysics play nice ^^

mdt |

It's not the super nova itself that's the problem.
The problem is that the system contained 5 stars. So you have one that went nova, and four more that are now doing nothing but heating up all that junk the wolf-rayat star blew off. Basically, there's a bunch of stellar material that's absorbing the output of four other stars (and they ain't small ones) faster than it can radiate it out.

mdt |

It's one of the weirdest star systems I've ever read about. At minimum four stars, all forming a large stellar system, and one is a massive and rare (and unstable) Wolf-Rayat star. And the two companions are a pair of massive F0 stars. Hypergiants. So two white hypergiants orbiting each other, orbiting another binary system which is a blue supergiant and a massive Wolf-Rayat.
And there could be more stellars, they just can't tell right now, but they think at least one more. Man, that's a messed up area to be going through.

Vathan, you didn't win the lottery, but you did manage to land some work during your down time doing some work with the movie industry as a subject matter expert. You even ended up doing some small roles on screen in the movie. The move was popular, and you ended up getting a staring roll in a sequel, which was massively popular! Between the residuals, the pay for merchandising and likenesses (Get your Vathan The Marine toy! With lifelike Kung Fu Action!), and product endorsement deals, your money manager has been able to set up a trust fund for you, which will pay you out money every month.
Took WP (Ship's Weapons) & Heavy Metal

Annara, your late husband didn't leave you any money directly, but he did leave you a trust fund, which finally cleared probate court.

A character earns 1 ,000 XP every time they are promoted. Parenthesis around the Promotion DC number denote the DC for enlisted personnel. Officers add 2 to this DC – there are more enlisted positions available than commissioned ones.
So yes, you did get a promotion, since you hit DC+2. The DC was 8.

No problem, it's not a standard system for d20. :)

Hey mdt, what do I get instead of the TAS Membership? Just asking so I can work it into my history. : )

Ophelia was assigned to BuShips (Bureau of Ships) to help with repairing the ships found, and also to start laying down an orbital dockyard to build home grown ships.
While doing so, the Sons of Isolation attacked, using tanks, mortars, and bombers. Ophelia was injured in the attack.
Afterwards, the money for the heavy ordinance was traced back to William De'Field, one of the richest and most powerful of the Clan Elders. The revelation rocks the planet, and nearly a year goes by for the trial. In the end, he's stripped of all his wealth, and the clan is either exiled (to the southern continent, now a penal colony) or executed. The Sons of Isolation is shattered.
The clan holdings were taken by the Council. 30% of the clan's holdings were given out to victims of SoI attacks. Ophelia received ownership of two very lucrative mines, one silver and one emerald. She now receives a steady stipend from the proceeds.
