I say leave sorry of that was not clear.
I will make a science based PC, GM can I have some rolls or can I use the last.
Cathrine Nikolayevna Gagarin |
IC - Cath is definitely leaning to 'stay' and don't leave their crew member behind. On the other hand, she really like to see more of the worlds ...
OOC - I think space exploration and space travel is the funniest part of being a space explorer, so I'm definitely looking forward to resuming that again : )
Ynja Eva Ragnavold |
ho ho if you have gone to all that work, well lets stay in system, I just got the feeling they wanted little or nothing to do with us.
Cathrine Nikolayevna Gagarin |
Boing!
I'm not gone or anything, just need a little time to digest the recent posts/events : )
(and sorry about your notes mdt - we players tend to have that effect on well planned/thought out stuff I've noticed : /)
Ivan Lazarev |
Sorry for the absence everyone. I was called on a sudden business trip to Mexico, and the hotel I was booked at didn’t have a stable internet connection. : /

It might be politically advantageous to not explore the jumps immediately around the Nutejans. Sort of a 'we won't poach your territory' thing. No laws against it, but given your diplomacy, it would occur to Aramis.
Aramis Ramirez |
Crap. I responded Saturday, but it appears that my post got eaten.
I had actually thought about the potential political ramifications for exploring in their neighborhood.
PROs - We (Alliance) need to know about their neighborhood.
- We know to hail any Nuts within 6 hours of entering the system
- Better us receive more bad publicity than other Scouts, because their culture is individually focused.
CONs - We could receive bad publicity
So, I weighed the PROs of exploring SG-015 better than the CONs. What about everyone else?
cheers

That seems to be a reasonable statement. Besides, if they didn't have gravity drive ships right now it will probably take them a while to get them - even if only restore them from mothballing. So they might never notice :P
Besides, they are self described 'isolationists'. Sooo they don't really need all that nice space just laying about, right ^^?
(And if we ever come to hostile/disagreeable terms this might be our one shot to get a good look at their backyard.)
Ivan Lazarev |
I'm fine with it, though why not just ask for permission? Seems like a simple way to avoid ill will and keeps us from looking sneaky, as well as giving them a heads up that we might need to return back through.
It also lets us gauge how likely they are to stop us again. Last thing we need is to be beating a hasty retreat and find out that they'd consider it trespassing or something.
Aramis Ramirez |
If they ask me where we're going, I'll say. Otherwise, Nuts.
Better to ask forgiveness than permission. ;D What's the worst that could happen?
Gameplay post inbound in an hour or so.
cheers
Cathrine Nikolayevna Gagarin |
Hmm.
Not sure, but I must admit I've been slower to post lately - sorta feels that sometimes there is nothing useful to contribute with as a technician (except OOC stuff : ) ). But that is sorta on me, could certainly attempt to wrench stuff a bit more if that would help!
(And I wouldn't say they were odd - more close but not exactly right in a sorta uncanny valley way. You see them and interact with them but the rules they follow are like a somewhat distorted version of what you expect if that makes sense. All in all a nice example of an alien human culture.)
mdt |
Well, it seems we've lost steam, and interest.
I'll throw it out. I can reboot the game, or I can cancel it.
Feedback?
If I don't hear from everyone by Friday night, I'll assume I should cancel it.
Aramis Ramirez |
My posting has been more infrequent, because I've been out of the country at a conference since last Saturday.
With only 4 players, when a couple of us get busy with RL, it really bogs the game. And I think Ivan's been gone for 3 weeks, so really only 3 players.
I'm still interested in the game but would appreciate more PC interaction.
cheers
Cathrine Nikolayevna Gagarin |
@reboot - As in total reset or just pushing us forward again?
@posts - I know I have also been slower then usual this last *hmm* probably since summer. A lot of stuff going on IRL (mostly related to my study abroad term) but I should be able to straighten out and step up my game : )
Ynja Eva Ragnavold |
@ Reboot, I don't think we need one, just skip to the end of the mission, unless you plane to have us meet some one. My feeling is we are not getting anywhere slowly.
@Posts, had a lot going on.
My feeling is if the other players thing this has gone as far as it can, then let halt here. I really do not want to make a 4th PC,
mdt |
Well, we're down to 3 people, which makes it hard if life gets too busy for one or two. Granted I've had that issue too, but it does make it hard. We had 5, new guy stopped responding, then we lost Ivan apparently.
I guess what I'm saying is, I'm not sure if the inertia can be overcome at this point, so I'm asking. As far as Rebooting, I would likely just start an entirely new space based game, do a recruitment, and keep you guys in the game as automatic players. I'd probably switch systems as this system seems to be one of the reasons why it's hard to get players (nobody has the system). What I'd run in it's place I don't know, unless it's GURPS or something.
I can keep going if you're really enjoying the game and can continue, it just felt like it was grinding to a halt, and I wanted to see if it was recoverable or not.
Ambassador_Annara_Utoxier-Lee |
I have a pc now, who's big event of the day is drilling rocks.
i think that says it all.
my vote, unless you get us into this war with the religious nuts, that's been dangling, lets end this and see what the new game looks like.
Aramis Ramirez |
With 3 players, we struggle to maintain momentum. I've enjoyed the game and would continue playing. But if we get too busy to Gameplay post, we need to quickly post in Discussion giving everyone a heads up. That could help.
If we reboot into a new game mechanic, I would need to think. This system took effort to learn and be passable. I don't have much bandwidth to learn new systems.
Even if we stop here, I've no regrets here. We've had a great run. This is already one of my best Pbp campaign experiences and longest running games.
that's my two credits
cheers
Ynja Eva Ragnavold |
yep I agree it was a lot of fun and very well played
mdt |
If we reboot using the same rules, that would be better then? I'd need to re-recruit.
As far as a reboot, I think perhaps either moving back in time (to before the nova) or forward in time (maybe a hundred years, to where there's regular travel between planets, more like the game system envisions) would be better, more interaction with NPCs. That would, I think, keep interest up more than just exploring and 'drilling rocks'.
Thoughts?
Viktoria Ceres |
@System - I must admit, I am always curious as to learn new stuff (I've heard that there are StarWars systems that don't completely suck - it might be in the spirit of the times, if people are into that :P? [But I'm a bit biased; so hyped for the new movies!]).
But! I rather run by the 'old' system and keep Vathan/Aramis/Jubal then any new system without : )
@Plot - I think our current plot has great potential and so; the themes of rebirth and reconnection are funny to explore. The pacing, to feel natural, might have become a bit slow for a pbp. But if we are going to jump the time, I suggest forward so that we can keep building onto the world and see it evolve.
Aramis Ramirez |
Yeah, I need to echo the other players. I'm good with my character and current setting and would like to continue exploring maybe meeting the Empire.
But reading between MDT's lines, are you prepared for us to continue as is?
cheers
Ivan Lazarev |
Hey all, I just wanted to say that I hadn't abandoned the game, and was just looking for an opportune time to interject with something that wasn't just "Checks the logs and says that supplies are good".
That said, if we're rebooting, I do think I am going to step out. I just have too much going on to reliably keep up (as if that hasn't been obvious). It has been a lot of fun though, and I do wish you all the best!
mdt |
Sorry everyone, travelling for work again, and had a much longer Monday than I expected (it started 7AM Sunday, and I didn't get to NY and into bed until 2:30 AM Monday). I'll be a bit spotty this week and next due to the travel.
I'll try to work up something this weekend about a reboot. I'm thinking maybe a 100 years in the future, after the local space lanes are somewhat normalized? With everyone playing a more traditional 'independent group' type than the current military setting?
mdt |
Hi all,
My apologies, this last week has been... stressful. I had to fly to another state to deal with a family issue. My father had to undergo a semi-routine medical procedure, but he had some sort of breakdown during the procedure. The doctors suspect it's from the anesthetic, it's put him in a state of dementia. We're hoping he will recover, but the week was extremely busy and very draining. I spent most of last night and today sleeping.
I'll try to get back to posting this week, as soon as I have energy to GM.
MDT
Viktoria Ceres |
Oh that's rough to hear. I hope things work out!
And no need to worry about us, I know I'll be on this site for a long time to come : )
mdt |
I don't have the energy to do a recruitment right now, I'm sorry, with the family stuff going on... it's just too hard. :(
I'm going to go ahead and shutter this game for now. When I have more energy (probably next year) I'll do a recruitment for a sci-fi game then.
Anyone in this game has a slot in that game when I recruit for it, if they want it.
