Xarol Hopa |
A swarm made up of Tiny creatures takes half damage from slashing and piercing weapons. A swarm composed of Fine or Diminutive creatures is immune to all weapon damage. Reducing a swarm to 0 hit points or less causes it to break up, though damage taken until that point does not degrade its ability to attack or resist attack

fortitude: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
I take 6 damage and in a burst of desperation send out a burst of healing energy.
My guy panics and channels positive energy, healing everyone, including the swarm (however a swarm is affected by channel, I don't know). A swarm is a nasty thing to send against low level travelers ;)
channel: 1d6 ⇒ 1
DireMerc |
Xarol blows himself up and scatters the remaining spiders. Those that remain turn into smoke and vanish.
As a note Xarol you roll 11 damage and saved for half but in pathfinder damage is rounded up so with your resistance 5 you would still take 1.
Still good job saving everyone.
And yes Channel would heal the swarm. But the swarm still dead.
Ronin Aoi Hasu |
Aoi puts down Sputnikk as the swarm disperses. He then goes up to Xarol.
HA nice one! Remind me never to get on your bad side
He gives him a rather strong pat on the back.
*whistles at Moon-Moon in a way that she knows is a command for "Come"*
Firebeard |
"Hope we don't run int' any more o' them critters. Here lad, le' me help ye up."
Sorry about the torch. I guess I was holding it over from 3.5, where a torch specifically said it did 1d3 fire damage to swarms
Minmax - A spider swarm specifically states that it is immune to weapon damage (because it is made of diminutive creatures
DireMerc |
Ah yes sorry about with all the posting an peeps asking for rulings on swarms I must have missed it. Xarol posted before you did and killed the swarm so yes you can have your spell back. For future combat if you have questions about rulings and such please put them in the discussion area and I'll make an effort to keep an eye on both topics. When in combat post only your combat actions here. Your currently out of combat again so post as you like but leave ooc stuff in discussion
Ronin Aoi Hasu |
Aoi walks over to Sputnikk after picking up his pack
Ya got a nasty spider bite HAHAHAHAHA
Pats him on the back as well, rather hard.
Don't worry we had you covered lil' man
Sputnikk |
There is a book on a table. Magical candles that threw light, but no heat. I, I, I opened the book and just skimmed through it to see what it was. Then, then a snake attacked me from out of the book. See this where it bit me. It disappeared, then, Sputnikk pauses a moment. Then spiders erupted from it and I ran, ran for my life. He puts his head down in shame. I shoulda new better! he mumbles under his breath.
Thank you all for saving me. Please forgive a curious gnome for putting all your lives in danger.
Ronin Aoi Hasu |
Forgiveness? HA! Most gnomes I met are too afraid of their own shadow to do anything, and it sounds like you charged into battle before anyone could stop you! I'd be happy to be friends with ya
Aoi puts out his hand
Name's Aoi-Hasu, though no one likes saying it, so for the both of us just call me Ace. And you?
Sputnikk |
A smile appears on the gnome's face as he extends his hand to shake Aoi-Hasu's. The name's Sputnikk pleased to make your acquaintance. Thank you for coming to our aid. Speaking of which what brings you here? Did the barkeep send you?
Ronin Aoi Hasu |
Aoi grasps the gnome's hand tightly and gives it a vigorous shake.
Yep! Me and ol' Moon-moon here were wondering what everyone was all riled up 'bout.
Aoi gestures to the wolf by his side, who by this point has layed down on the floor seeming not interested in the conversation
When we talked ta the Innkeeper he asked us ta fix his basement or somethin'. I was hesitant at first, but den he said I'd have all the mead I could drink! And ol' Ace can drink a lot! HAHAHAHA
Sputnikk |
Looking at the bite marks again, he corrects his story, Maybe it was the spiders that bit me. Anyhow there was a snake! And it disappeared almost as fast as it appeared!
He quickly changes the subject and remarks, That there is a pretty pup you gots! I gots a pet of me own. Give me a moment and I'll show ya! Sputnikk concentrates and whispers a command. Blackberry...Come to me my little friend.
A moment later, a little raven appears standing on the backside of his hand.
Meet Blackberry, my closest friend in the whole world.
Stonz McCoy |
Blackberry? Nice name, I like it :)
Stonz continues to swat at the spiders as he walks over to the pair. "No harm done there friend, Ida done the same and probably not made it out either. Higha there big guy, thanks for tha hand pulling my partner here out of trouble, apreciate it. Now, you guys want to go back in there an try an get that book? Figure the trap is sprung now?"
Curiosity and the cat thing? Its also laced with a bit of greed..."
Min Maximus |
Maximus silently stares at his sword, mouth gaping open.
I never seen no fight a huge sword couldn't handle... I must have seen it all now... I have disgraced the name of Maximus! I shall live forever in a prison of shame!
Firebeard |
"Buck up, boyo! It be time in yer life t' learn tha' not ever'y problem ken be solved wit' a sword or fists. Learn t' know th' ones what can, then ye can be hittin' em as hard as ye like." Firebeard ground the torch out on the wall beside him, saving it for later, just in case. His oen eyes adjusted back to the relative darkness with ease.
"Now, ye was sayin' 'bout goin' back in there? It'll take a few hours o' diggin t' get back in there. Mayhaps we should go th' other way, wn' come back when we're sure we ain't gonna get run up behind?"
Xarol Hopa |
Xarol hears Maximus and starts silently laughing, then goes over to him. "Maximus my friend, you mustn't live in shame so! Think about it, have you ever failed to hurt something before in your life? No? Well then, the answer Is simple! It is not you that is at fault, you just have the wrong sword! You need a better sword, one made with fire perhaps? That would have burned the swarm away right quick!"
literally, flaming swords do normal damage
After hearing the dwarf Xarol turns to him and the gnome I still have this extract.., so if our gnome friend here is not feeling up to it I could shrink down and go through to retrieve this book you mentioned. Though sadly this recipe doesn't work on other people yet. I just can't get the magical infusion right."
Min Maximus |
Maximus tries to feel ok about everything and gives a solemn nod and smile towards Xarol and Firebear... he then winces as the poison continues to course through his body...
fort save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
Sputnikk |
Fortitude Save 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Sputnikk quickly grabs the wound left by the spiders. Blackberry flaps his wings to keep from dropping the floor. Aaagh the burning! Make it stop!
Are you serious right now? Crappy dice roller! Like I'm not a weak enough character as it is. Pretty soon I won't be able to wipe my own arse!
Waglinde |
”You do not want that to get infected.”
Waglinde bends over and peers at the Gnome’s wound.
”Ewwww, it looks awful. You better get someone to clean that right away. I understand that alcohol either applied directly or imbibed can be an effective remedy. You want me to hustle back up to the bar and get you something?”
Then I hug the gnome's head to my chest (unless he doth protest too much)
"Poor bracito, me estas matando!"
Ronin Aoi Hasu |
Aoi watches his new companions wince in pain over the poison coursing through their veins, and thinks perhaps the spidery rode isn't in their best interest.
Seems ta me like some rest is in order. Lets say we regroup after a nights sleep soz we can lick our wounds
Xarol Hopa |
"I agree with Maximus . It will take 2-4 days for us to heal fully from this, unless our cleric friend has any specific suggestions? I would like to at least retrieve the book that caused all of this trouble. Now, Sputnikk, will you go get the book, or should I?"
let's try to make it through one more encounter. We just got unlucky die rolls on that one.
Waglinde |
"Wait, so there isn't going to be any licking? Okay, yes, okay, whew, so let's try, let's all just try to stay focused here. Okay, okay, no licking, right, there isn't going to be any licking, now, right now, or soon, right? Okay. Then here’s my suggestion, we send Rootvegetablegash and one other person, someone who can be shrunk and still be useful, back to fetch anything of value from that room beyond the cave in, then we form up, close, tight, real tight, into a Marching order and then we can lick, no, wait, that’s right no licking. We go on down to the left and explore as far as we can.”
Then the licking, of course, I mean why wouldn’t there be licking, eventually?
Xarol Hopa |
Once again steadily ignoring the bard. Xarol gives an alchemist's fire to the wizard, to fire beard, to the half orc, and to Maximus. "Those won't hurt me, so if you see more swarms on me or hear yelling, get ready to throw them" I'm going to find out what is in there.
DireMerc |
Xarol drink his potion reducing in size. He crosses the tunnel and moves to the door.
From there he peers into the room and see that it appears to be a library with shelves containing around two thousand dusty tomes. In the center of the room is a desk with candles still burning. On the ground next to the desk is a journal lying open on the ground.
Stonz McCoy |
We all are gluttons for punishment eh? Before he heads on down the tunnel my guy makes a suggestion
"If we do decide to rest here, me an our new green friend can stay here and widen the tunnel for when we have rested up a bit and we can also keep guard at the i ntersection before the entrance."
Before Xarol heads into the tunnel Stonz patts him on the shoulder and tells him to be careful, casting resistance while he does. You get +1 bonus on your saves for 1 minute. Man, trying to find reasons to 'pat' people is making me feel like a creep :P
I then turn to Sputnikk and cast cure light wounds on him.
CLW: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Sputnikk |
Sputnikk thanks Stonz for the healing and follows Xarol down the tunnel, holding the alchemist fire firmly as not to drop it.
