A series of events leads to the discovery of a hidden vault under the city of Magnimar. Three keys are required to open it. Were are they? What is inside?

Looks like another dead guy box (sarcophagus) this one seems to be covered in some kind of brown moss and some mushrooms. The is a strong smell of decay coming from this tomb.

Eh.... This here rooms seems to be rotting away... look at them mushrooms... say... those look like some of the mushrooms from back in my music days... oh boy...

Min will then poke at the mold with his thankfully not broken sword.


The mold suddenly grows in mass and surges forward coming at Min like a wave of fungus, moss and mushrooms.

Reflex save.

Min is too slow and is engulfed by the mass.

Min needs to make a fort save vs disease and is considered Pinned.

Firebeard leaped at the mold creature, trying to squash it with his foot.

Min Maximus doesn't need to see in the dark, he just wills the darkness to be seen through

With help Min barely manages to escape the creature. (1 less and you'd have failed)

Firebeard punches the creature twice but some of the mold and slime sticks to his fists. Two saves vs disease for Firebeard.

The acid strikes the creature and it sizzles a bit.

The mass of fungus attacks Firebeard trying to engulf him. Make a reflex save or an attack of op. If you make an attack you are automatically grappled if it's still alive after.

Stonz will aid another again to help firebeard escape the grapple if he gets grappled, otherwise he casts resitance on Firebeard.

"Maybe we need to throw some light on these mushrooms. Doesn't light kill them, dead like dead?"

I put my bow on my shoulder and reach into my shoulder sack for a Sunrod*, then strike it on the wall, staying far away from the mushroom menace.

*I haven't fully updated my equipment after I sold my armor and bought arrows, can I please have 5 sunrods at 2 gp each, pleasey weasey?

Firebeard tries to shake the slime off his hands, but the distraction cost him his opportunity to get out of the way as the thing rolled over him.

Firebeard disappears into the mass of the fungus and mushrooms and is envelops him. Burning away at his flesh like acid.

Xarol stares on somewhat helplessly... "If I throw a bomb it will hurt them as well, if I don't throw a bomb, it is going to eat them." Seeing the acid sizzle Xarol draws a flask of alchemist's fire and chucks it at the creature.

Attack 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16, Damage 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11 Since the mold is covering Firebeard maybe only do splash damage to him? Man I'm kind of sucking at these combats!


Why are you adding 5 to the damage of the alchemist fire?

Firebeard takes 6 fire damage from the splash damage and the creature is set on fire. However if it's bothered by the flames the creature doesn't show it.

As a note physical attacks deal half damage to Firebeard while he is inside so take care.

he adds his int mod to damage with all splash weapons, not just bombs.


Ok found it. I'd skipped over the trow anything part as I assumed it just gave the trow anything feat as a bonus feat didn't see the part were he adds his int as damage to all splash weapons. Result is the same creature seem unbothered by the flames. However it also adds his int to the splash damage so it does 6 to Firebeard dropping him to 0.

Sputnikk fearful of his companion's life uses his only non-cantrip damage spell, shocking grasp 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14for1d6 ⇒ 2

So far Min, Firebeard and Ronin still need to post then the creature goes again then Sputnikk's shocking will happen.

Oh piece of crap, for the love of... I meant Acid. Damn. Still though, Xarol doesn't have any knowledge dungeoneering... so no clue what the creature is vulnerable to or not. Poor Firebeard!

Min will use his turn taking a 5 ft. away from the mold and pulling his rope out of his pack, (move action) an then will try to tie it to Firebeard (standard)

not sure exactly what this entails... Is the dwarf completely consumed?

Yes he has effectively been swallowed by the creature and is entirely inside it. You cannot touch the dwarf without touching the creature and the creature would melt the rope in a second. Firebeard is at 0 hp and he can still attempt to escape on his turn but he just drops to -1 after the attempt regardless of the result. Your options Min and Ronin are basically try to help him or attack the creature and hope that it dies before Firebeard does. Firebeard takes half the damage you deal to the creature and in my game you die when your negative is equal to greater than you con score so -14 is death for Firebeard.

Min will remember he has an alchemists fire from earlier... He will consider the consequences and hurl the vial at the mold


Xarol already tried that and it had no effect other than hurting Firebeard...

Inside the creature, Firebeard goes still, using dinshon exercises to prepare for a sudden jolt of motion. Then, when he was calm at his center, he exploded in a burst of mkotiojn, sending his head and one arm out of the ooze for a brief time. "A little help, will ye?"

I should have started a Bardic performance last round, cause now my spell Chord of Shardsis another round out, but maybe we can save his life. I’m figuring the mushrooms have a terrible Reflex save, and the spell does 2d6 piercing damage. A couple of quick questions, for anyone who can help me figure this out, is it possible to craft a Wand of Chord of Shards? And if so would it still require a Bardic performance to activate?

I begin singing, and on my next action I will cast Chord of Shards if the mushroom monster is still alive.

everyone that goes after me now benefits from the Inspire Courage Bardic Performance ability


Yes a wand of this spell could be made, no you wouldn't need to be doing performance to use it.


Min can still decide on a new action since alchemist fire is a terrible idea and even he should know better I think, Honestly attack all out would be better than alchemist fire. Also Ronin can post.

Now that part of Firebeard is exposed, min will tie the rope to him and pull him out!


Make a dex check if you make at least 10 I'll count it as aid another to escape grapple giving him +2.

Ronin helps and working together you manage to pull the unconscious dwarf out of the mass. Firebeard is at -1.

The creature isn't done however and it goes for Min again once again trying to engulf him. Reflex save to avoid it or an attack of op. If you attack and the creature survives you are automatically grapple and pinned.

After Min has posted we will move on to round 3 if the battle isn't over.

Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
So I imagine that half damage goes to Min, sorry buddy but you got more health than firebeard :)

Min stands his ground for an attack but misses his swing as he is engulfed by the creature.

damage to Min: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Creature takes another 5 and Min takes 3.

Min is at -4.

When my action is up, I release my Chord of Shards at the precise time I sing,,,

"I command the lightning's hand!"

and aim the area of affect on the 'shrooms

Damage from spell: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 5) = 11

reflex save, DC 15 for half


It somehow manages to avoid the worst of it but still takes damage from the attack. The creature is getting weak.
Reflex: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (20) + 0 = 20 -_- wow I feel bad for you guys.

Yes I did say it took damage just not enough to kill it. I mean I feel bad cause the rolls haven't exactly been in your favor so far


The creature is barely alive at this point. It seems to be struggling to maintain it's form.


Xarol and Ronin can act for round 3 actions then it's the creature if it's still alive.
