Drog slumps into a pew, exhausted. We're from the Pathfinder Society, on assignment from Venture-Captain Muesello to deliver these pilgrims to safety. Don't suppose you have any way to get rid of this numbness all over me? It's more physical than emotional, honestly, but it's not something I'm enjoying. Not that there's much in this life to enjoy, mind you...

![]() |

Akkuret sighs in despair.
"Alas, my friend. I'm sorry to tell you that I don't hold anymore power that was given to me by Sarenrae."
A young man dressed in cultist's robes stands up quickly, with a sorry face. "It's my fault, master dwarf! I wanted to repair the chapel's roof but fell and had some damage on my legs. But Father Akkuret healed with Sarenrae's might!"
Another young man stands up and takes some wine boiling on the fire. "Come sit and rest, folks. Drink mulled wine and tell us more about what you lived these days..."¨
The Dawnflower Blossoms sighs in relief, takes some hot wine and eagerly sit down.

![]() |

Falco sits down on the bench next to Droghedor and starts popping open scroll cases and shuffling through his many scrolls. "No... no... no... I've only got scrolls I can use and as I said, I do not study healing! I will have to remember to buy some though, this poison will take time to leave your system and in the mean time there is nothing to do. We must carry on though."
---
Falco happily accepts some wine although does not drink much, not being one to appreciate the mind-altering effects of alcohol. "Is this place safe? Secure?" he asks, looking around nervously.

![]() |

Akkuret nods.
"Indeed! This place is safer than most! But I know what happened to the blossoms... That Chalfon Dalsine! It was him who ordered all of what happened in the city lately! Filthy criminal!"
He pauses to gulp some mulled wine.
"That's a while we're here, now. You know it's really easy to loose track of time. But we never encountered any troubles down here. Dalsine's forces seem to either avoid this part of the catacombs or they don't know them well enough."
After a while and acknowledging the silence, Akkuret claps his hands together.
"You may want to rest a little before going out, it's dangerous out there. Are you wounded? And I may have some informations you don't. Don't you know this wise saying: Knowing is half the battle?"
Raising an eyebrow at your frowns, he adds.
"Don't you know? Chalfon Dalsine was part of the pathfinder society but was expelled, due to many events. Because of his family’s wealth, he was able to circumvent some of the more stringent requirements the Society places on its initiates, and live a life of relative luxury. He paid others to complete his chores and assignments, and spent his days and nights in Absalom’s brothels and taverns. He did not care that his actions violated the Pathfinders’ basic rules, believing that his ancestry and social class placed him above such boring, petty concerns."
He makes a pause to see if you followed his explanations, taking a sip of his bottle of water.
"I worked a lot in the dawnflower's information cell. Chalfon left Absalom angry and bitter, and spent the next few years roaming the Inner Sea region in search of distractions. When his gambling debts began to mount up, he fled his many creditors and went into hiding in rural Taldor. With nothing else to do so far from “civilization,” the bored noble began dabbling in esoteric arcana under the tutelage of a local, reclusive magic theoretician named Banell Half-Drowned, who followed the way of the magus, preaching the blending of magical and martial techniques and he soon became one of Banell’s most promising students."
Akkuret pauses once again, apologizing.
"I'm sorry but to understand this story, you'll have to understand the big picture."
"Since Chalfon blamed the Pathfinder hierarchy for many of his own problems, he later joined a group called the Shadow Lodge constituted of people disenchanted with the Society, and aimed to supplant the inefficient and feckless Decemvirate."

![]() |

Droghodor has only been half paying attention as the priest has talked. At the mention of Chalfon Dalsine, however, his ears perk up, and he listens more carefully.
How did you come to know so much about this Chalfon Dalsine? Drog asks. Especially down here, so far from the city proper?
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Heh.
Drog is not suspicious — he seems genuinely curious about his question.

![]() |

^^
Akkuret frowns at Droghedor.
"Has the spider's poison dimmed your wits as well, master dwarf? In response to Taldor's massive inquisition on our cult, we had to prove ourselves crafty and know the intentions of our ennemies' leaders. We learnt that Dalsine later joined the Lion Blades, an elite group of Taldor. But you may not remember as well, master dwarf, the great politic troubles between Taldor and Qadira? Although this was a geopolitics' problem, Taldor also came to repress the cult of the Dawnflower, which you may not know, but was born in Qadira and represents strongly the southeastern country in the taldans' minds."
After that, he chugs down some more mulled wine.
Everyone else can attempt a Sense motive check.
1d20 + 14 ⇒ (12) + 14 = 26

![]() |

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
Falco sighs and mutters, "Politics," with no small amount of disgust.
"So Chalfon is a part of the Shadow Lodge and bent on bringing the Society down," Falco clarifies, "and he's also been causing problems for the city lately."
"I guess we need to reign him in, right?"

![]() |

Syrak respectfully takes a small amount of drink. Enough to not be rude but little enough to no be a burden to the supplies.
sense motive: 1d20 ⇒ 6
Drog: did you want any uses from my lesser resto scroll?

![]() |

Dorvhan stays quiet for a bit, weighing the whole situation in his mind Sense Motive: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21 I'll make a "real" post, based on what comes of the Sense Motive Roll.

![]() |

Sorry, GM, am super busy at work so I can do the Gen Con thing with minimal guilt. Theoretically, anyway.
Also, thanks Syrak. 3 DEX dmg is far better than 9 DEX dmg.
"I guess we need to reign him in, right?"
Drog groans. Oh no! Dalsine's a known Lion Blade and a member of the Shadow Lodge, who totally has it in for the Society and isn't a cover for more insidious actions at all! We'd never survive such an encounter! As he speaks, Drog is getting to his feet and checking the handle on his axe. He looks ready to leave in short order.

![]() |

Falco nods. "Well, sure, he sounds like a competent and dangerous fellow. But that's just we do as Pathfinders right? Run into danger without hesitation when the need arises!"

![]() |

Sorry for being MIA. Gen Con is more prep as a player than I remember. I'm good with this.

![]() |

As you move to depart, Akkuret stands up and walks towards the exit. Dorvhan and Falco have a sense that he seems to worry that you leave. That's now a few times that he tries to keep you around.
Grinding his teeth, Akkuret draws his scimitar and turns to face you. "Oh, don't worry. It's just that I cannot allow anyone to leave, not now! You HAVE to rest."
The Blossoms all seems surprised and move back into the benches.
What now?

![]() |

The man smirks.
"My identity is irrelevant. Don't you want more information about the recent events? Like, for example, Venture Captain Muesello smuggling objects from the taldan guard? Not very pathfindery, isn't it?"
You see that the blossoms and all of the sarenite worshipers seem taken abash by the priest's latest actions and stand frozen, waiting for things to calm down.

![]() |

Dorvhan squints a bit as he tries to gauge Akkuret's words, Sense Motive: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22
I'm back. Intermittent until I get into the swing of school, but certainly above average posting frequency.

![]() |

Dorvhan looks to the windows, and hefts his butterfly-shaped axe. He doesn't threaten the man with it, he just makes sure it's close by: "What's the deal here. Are you stalling for something?"

![]() |

I have both played and GMed this before so trying not to push the action.
Syrak raises his voice in frustration, "I say again, evil fiend, reveal thy true self, hide no longer among the sheep."

![]() |

Falco raises an eyebrow at the accusation that the man is evil, but trusts Syrak's judgement and holy powers over such things. He nervously pops open a scroll tube and starts fiddling with the papers inside, just in case things turn sour.

![]() |

Syrak stand up as tall as he can, his voice booming as he moves his weapon into an aggressive position "By my oaths to Lastwall, this creature deceives us all and attempts to delay us from our quest. It is no faithful of the Dawnflower!"
Syrak will move in to attack

![]() |

Alright initiative! Sorry about the slow pace of this part but it's clearly stated that he doesn't attack the PC's and waits to be attacked. :)
Syrak moves to attack the "cleric", while your hear the blossoms gasp all around you.
As the sorcedin does so, Akkuret is quick to react. With horror, you see Akkuret's figure melting. His skin seems to peel off as he changes form, recovering his true appearance, having no discernible facial features. (see map)
His scimitar still in hand, he charges Syrak, slashing him just right. He seems to have a unnatural reach.
"Die, Pathfinders. You'll never reach my master!" he says with a loud voice.

Reeling in pain from the mysterious evil critter Syrak sees how Drog does before making his plan.

I'm headed back to California first thing tomorrow morning. Going to be our of contact for about 36 hours from this post. Feel free to have Syrak attack more as above, using LoH as appropriate.

Falco and Droghedor have no idea what kind of creature Akkuret is! However, the wizard's force missile hits squarely, as does the rangizard's axe swing! The dwarf's movement provokes a reflex attack from Akkuret that misses its target.
Seeing that Droghedor's blow seems to pass easily, Syrak chooses not to smite but heals himself quickly. His glaive touches the man's foe with ease and slashes it widely.
Just after this, two of the dawnflower blossoms that were here before you melt in the same way Akkuret did and rush to attack Syrak! The first misses while the other one stabs Syrak but wounds him only a little.

Assuming it doesn't have anything that lets its natural attacks remain primaries while weapon fighting it looks like it's slam damage is 2 points too high and the attack bonus is ~5 too high due to natural attack rules.
Of course it could have something special that lets the slam remain primary while using weapons.

![]() |

@Maths: yes, I didn't double the sneak. And you are right, Syrak, I used the wrong attack bonus for Akkuret's slam (new total is 24) but with an 18 on the dice and flank...
Droghedor's waraxe strikes true once again but the formerly priest stands his ground! Falco conjures a flaming sphere on the greenish stalker but it successfully dodges the fire.
Both stalkers step closer to Dorvhan and try to attack him. All attacks miss except a surprise attack from the blueish one who tries to grab Dorvhan but misses.

With only Falco between that attack Syrak, unsurprisingly he fails the stabilize and bleeds out, even with a reroll

![]() |

While I agree with you, it's stated on its stat block that it deals +4 dmg with its slam attack (the attack bonus, +4, is correct on the stat block, it was me that made the mistake). It indeed doesn't have any feat or SQ that would allow it to deal full damage on his secondary slam attack.
Thus, I would have logically accepted if you made the stab check.
If Drog or Falco have any way to stabilize Syrak, I accept a retcon.
