Dungeon Master S |
Hey guys, back from OGC, but Gen Con is now 9 days out and crushing me. I'll be posting when I can, as I can. I realize I've been spotty a lot over the last month, which is out of character for me, but it's a perfect storm of stuff. I'll be back up to a normal rate after the Con though. Sorry about that.
It is a sonic mind affecting ability. Only Falco resists her lure, as the other Pathfinders all walk towards her. Falco gets a spell off on Syrak, but for now he's captivated.
I've moved everyone forward, make a new save as the water he is deep enough to be dangerous. If you pass, take your turn as normal.
Round 3:
Syrak: Go
Paeter: Go
Pandoor: Go
Falco: Go
Baddies: TBD
Nixie: 5
Dungeon Master S |
Falco, the eagle gets a turn for Round 2 also.
Syrak Divinion |
Fortune's Will Save: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 8 + 2 = 20
With Falco's encouragement, Syrak snaps out of it as the water gets deeper. With his movement hobbled Syrak once again drops his glaive and pops claws as he tries to eviscerate the foul fae.
Claw: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 7 + 2 = 22
damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Other Claw: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 7 + 2 = 19
damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Falco Flaxseed |
Oh right, totally forgot about my eagle last round. It's probably not doing much but distract them because of DR but hey:
The eagle flies forward and attacks!
bite: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
damage: 1d4 ⇒ 2
---
The eagle continues attacking the fey!
talon: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 3 + 2 = 20
damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1
talon: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 3 + 2 = 10
damage: 1d4 ⇒ 3
bite: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
damage: 1d4 ⇒ 3
Meanwhile, Falco sits atop his pony and pulls out his trusty wand:
force: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
SR if needed: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
Dungeon Master S |
With spells to help, Syrak and the eagle have what it takes to cut down the rather annoying fey!
Out of combat.
The man in the cage is half yelping, half wimpering for help.
While some of you move to help him, others search the room. One of the stuffed meadowlarks floating in the cage is actually a highly realistic feather token. In addition, you notice that one of the horns on the mounted gorgon’s head does not match the other, and radiates magic.
"Help! My name is Virml, I'm a Pathfinder! You have to help!"
Falco Flaxseed |
"Oh, stop your-wait, what did you say your name was? How did you get down here? Didn't we just talk to you upstairs? Did you come back to wreak more havoc! Silly boy! Haven't you done enough?!"
Paeter Linseed |
Paeter pushes through the water to find the man strung up in the cage and sees that Syrak is about to free the man. "Wait until he explains why there are two of him, Syrak." the halfling warns.
Pandoor Flaxseed |
With the end of the lure effect, Pandoor shakes his head from right to left.
"Wait, you said your name was Virml? Hey guys! I found the twin from the guy that caused this! Remember! The guy that was all wet and who sent us here! Wait! This isn't a twin! Are you both the same person?"
Syrak Divinion |
Syrak will heed his companions advice and wait, although clearly the man being imprisoned offends Syrak's sense of justice.
Dungeon Master S |
sorry guys, updating this week was far harder than expected.
He looks wide eyed and quite scared, "I have no twin! What're you talking about? There's only one of me? What's going on here?"
He appears quite genuine.

Pandoor Flaxseed |
Sense Motive (versatile performance): 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (8) + 14 = 22
"Oh, you appear genuine... What does this mean? I think we should fee him, friends and cousins!"
Paeter Linseed |
"Should we go back and deal with the imposter then?" Paeter asks of his team. "I hope it's not another Glabrezu..." he sighs.
Dungeon Master S |
"Be careful! He is no glabrezu, but a kitsune with great power and guile! I accidentally freed him and he hypnotized me with ease! He'll not be easy to catch!"
Virml seems truly embarrassed about his situation, "Please, don't throw me under the wagon with Master Shaine. I'm really sorry."
Falco Flaxseed |
"Where is the water coming from?" Falco asks. "Let's stop the flooding at least, maybe even reverse it if we can, and then we can confront this kitsune scoundrel."
Pandoor Flaxseed |
"There's no wagon around, don't worry." answers Pandoor.
He thinks a little about what Falco said and states.
"Yes, yes, I think Master Shaine would be most interested if the archives were not further damaged! Let's find the source of this water!"
Paeter Linseed |
"Didn't you just say you had no idea and now you seem to know exactly who and what he is?" Paeter looks at the man, sternly. "I don't appreciate being lied to, Apprentice."
---
Paeter struggles to reach the second floor of the archives as the water flooding down from there to the basement is immense, though he has the smart idea to strap a rope to himself and his cousins. With a toss, he gives enough to Syrak the Tall to coil it around his waist. "Use your bulk to get us up there, Syrak!"
Syrak Divinion |
Syrak will strap his glaive to his back and ties the rope to his waist and use one hand to climb the stairs and the other to help secure the rope.
Dungeon Master S |
"I'm not lying, I'm just confused! He.... he's really good at tricking people...obviously."
With Syrak's help, you get back to floor 1 (map one).
Where to Pathfinders?
I'm offline until Monday the 8th due to Gen Con starting now. Sorry I couldn't make a super awesome post first. I apologize for my spottiness over the last few weeks. When I return it'll be with a vengeance! (If I'm the GM, I apologize in advance for my "vengeance".)
Dorvhan Thunderstriker |
Ahhh... the second floor is completely different. :-)
sorry, I'm still on Gen Con delay. I don't have the scenario, but if I CAN get my hands on one....

Paeter Linseed |
@GM: Want me to post the second floor description? I've played this in Non-Core before.
Dungeon Master S |
No worries! Thank you though. I'm back. Slow until school starts, but back. I do appreciate the offer.
This wooden floor rises 10 feet above the main floor and overlooks the stacks. Most of the water generated here flows freely through the railing, so not enough accumulates to impede movement. Finally you see the source of the water, and it's difficult to believe.
A strange and slightly alien looking fish flops and skirts around. Everyone once in a while she releases a torrent of water that splashes below.
The bubbly words that come out are hard to understand:
"Oh heavens, you're not escaped prisoners. What are you doing here, unless I've asked you that already, in which case, why are you back?"
Paeter Linseed |
Paeter looks at the creature with a raised eyebrow. "Anyone understand the fish?" he asks.
Pandoor Flaxseed |
Seeing the others looking at him, Pandoor shakes his head in a unsuccessful attempt to get rid of some water. He smiles broadly at the fish.
Knowledge?: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
"Hello, Mister! My name is Pandoor and these are my companions! What is your name? And what do you do here?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (12) + 14 = 26
Pandoor speaks in common.
Dorvhan Thunderstriker |
The creature flaps and bounces. It repeats itself in Sylvan.
see spoiler above.

Syrak Divinion |
Syrak tries to make mouth closing motions with his arms at the fish.
Assuming that doesn't work he looks around for something suitable to shove in the fish's mouth, not including any local halflings.
Falco Flaxseed |
"Drat! I haven't learned that bubbling language yet." Falco moans when the fish speaks Aquan. When it starts speaking Sylvan, his mood improves, which is a relative statement for a grump like Falco.
He responds in Sylvan, "No, we're not escaped prisoners. Who and what are the prisoners? Are you the jailkeeper?"
Dungeon Master S |
She answers quickly, but them seems to spot something else to grab her attention, "You're not? A nasty fellow, and yes! That was easy! Next!"
She doesn't seem to understand Syrak (though perhaps with a DC 15 Bluff check.) Falco can make a Diplomacy check.
Falco Flaxseed |
Diplomacy? Oh boy.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
This time, Falco asks one question at a time and does not move on until she answers. "Focus! First, who are you?"
"Ok, who are the prisoners?"
"What is the jail?"
"How do we get the prisoners back in?"
Paeter Linseed |
Paeter pulls his trident from the sling across his back and points the tips at the fish. "Should we spear this creature's mouth shut? We have no time to stop some idiot fish from spewing forth water as we need to deal with whomever is impersonating the assistant."
Pandoor Flaxseed |
As Falco translates what happens, Pandoor scratches his head.
"Yes, what should we do? It's damaging the archives!"
Pandoor will try to make gestures to stop spitting water.
Bluff: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21
Dungeon Master S |
Your attempts all fall flat, until Pandoor's gestures seem to make some sense to the creature.
"Interesting. I can stop. I'll stop if you bring me all of the pieces to The Name of the Fox. I need it to recapture that dastardly kitsune. Now be gone with you!"
She immediately gets distracted by something in the air that none of you can see, but she DOES stop spitting water.
Pirate GM |
Syrak responds "With that closed for now, we need to go find the fake-Vermyl."
Although I don't know if this fish will stay shut...
Paeter Linseed |
Paeter sheathes his trident in the leather sling as he marches down the dripping stairs. His mail-clad boots clomp through the puddles on the stairs before reaching the rapidly draining pool with the two fishermen.
As the water drains to near his calves, the halfling wordlessly marches back to the entrance and calls out. "SHANE!" he bellows, trying to summon the Venture-Captain and his deceitful assistant.
Dungeon Master S |
Shane is nowhere to be found at the moment, but your yelling does startle someone upstairs in the classroom area (which is where the assistant went.)
-Posted with Wayfinder
Paeter Linseed |
Wordlessly, Paeter hears the startle assistant above and quickly ascends the stairs to try and find Fake-Virml.
Pandoor Flaxseed |
Relieved that his message was understood, Pandoor follows up Paeter by climbing the stairs behind the ranger.
Dungeon Master S |
This large chamber is crammed with desks and lecterns designed for copying scrolls and manuscripts. Along the north wall, a tall, broad shelf sags with sheaves of parchment, while near the exit to the south, a stack of ceramic ink jugs stands near wall-mounted racks of quills. Two bays of windows on the west wall offer an impressive view of the Lodge’s greatest landmark, Skyreach Tower, while the eastern windows overlook the library’s main stacks.
Unfortunately, Virml (the fake one) is nowhere to be found. Instead, Kreighton Shaine himself stands in the room looking around. "It's too late Pathfinders, he's gone. Bastard got away!"
Shaine is clearly lying about something, and isn't acting like himself.
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Paeter Linseed |
If Paeter falls for this, then I will be sad.
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10 Oh, thank god.
Paeter stands there, wordlessly, staring at Kreighton Shaine. His free hand moves down to his trident and he confidently unsheathes it and points the tri-tipped weapon at Shaine from across the room.
"Look, shapeshifter! I don't have time for your games. Venture-Captain Shaine could not possibly lose track of you, though I amazed that the old bastard didn't detect anything was wrong when you took Virml's form." he proclaims. "Return to your natural form and surrender and we won't be forced to hurt you, though I don't mind a little pain." he says with a sneer.
Dungeon Master S |
“No one shall catch me who can’t catch my name!”
"Shaine" gives up the disguise as a kitsune form emerges. Papers begin to flutter as the creature laughs, "Not bad! Not Bad! But I'm not going back!"
Whatever he was working on also falls from his hand, as a crocodile works its way from ink to flesh and joins in!
Falco: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15 (always acts in surprise)
Pandoor: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Paeter: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Baddies: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Syrak: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Dungeon Master S |
Round 1:
Paeter: Go
Baddies: TBD
Falco: TBD
Pandoor: TBD
Syrak: TBD
Dungeon Master S |
We're on the bottom left of map 1
Dungeon Master S |
I am back for real now! Huzzah! I missed this. Let's get back on track. That being said, I don't mind a round 1 bot of Paeter.
