I can sort of see the party getting into a huge argument right about now, when Calex, Poseus, Dieredon and Collin realize that Caorann may have just ruined the only opportunity the village of Woodbridge might have had to stop the legendary Fulough Barghnora
Of course Mina would not have any idea about the quest the original party was on, but she would probably know something about the beast
Knowledge nature, DC 20, or Knowledge Local DC 16

Poseus Murandae |

Sorry guys, for my absence, last few weeks were busy with exams, primarily studying and also monitoring a few.
Also didn't see many updates until I got Terquem's message.
The Fulough Barghnora was indeed a very dangerous but also very legendary encounter indeed, especially when you try to survive as lvl 1 PCs. It again lets you think as one of those PCs that retreat is the better part of valour, there's no shame in running away from time to time.
As among my other stories there are a few that stand out, my ratfolk alchemist, Cha 10, convincing a drugdealer to drink a flask of alchemist fire by rolling a nat 20, same ratfolk rolling a nat 20 once again on diplomacy against somebody we had to initially chase, we skipped the whole chase scene and he/she went with us willingly. The DM couldn't believe it.

Calex |

It might still come to that Dieredon. Lets see how it plays out. If it can be turned to the dark side it could be a powerful ally...er I mean if we can tame it it could be useful. But we can't let a beast like that run free to do more damage. It either joins us or gets buried. Permanently. After all we don't know how many Lyph its already killed.

Calex |

Terquem: Would it be possible for Calex to use his own Craft: Glass skill to puzzle out how to blow the spell stone orbs by examining the remaining orb and tying that to the info the lyph can provide? I know that won't actually enchant them but it will give me half the puzzle at least if its doable.

So, I live in tennessee, and my world has become nothing but snow and ice for the last few days. Does the sun still exist beyond a brilliant white light reflecting off of my surroundings? (Snow blindness is mildly terrifying to me). Unfortunately, I live like 3 minutes from my job, so I feel obligated to go (especially since I'm an animal caretaker, and animals kind of depend on me to... use the restroom, eat, that sort of stuff), it's kind of a mess. Apparently, everything is deadly right now and wants to eat me!
How is everyone else doing?

Terquem |
We are having great, mild, sunny, blue sky weather here in Idaho (sorry, but you know I so rarely get to say that).
Anyway, I'm sort of stuck with how to move forward with this Bulette as a "pet" scenario, anyone have any good ideas (I admit I so totally dropped the ball because I was conflating the previous Maetaur, who was a Druid, with the new Maetaur, who is a Shaman, and it sort of got me derailed).
These were my original notes (before I got derailed)
The Bulette is chained up by the back legs. It will attack anyone who comes within 60 feet of the central tree. If the party distracts the Bulette long enough for Turrlow to recover the spell stones, a spell stone can be hurled at the Bulette and on a successful Ranged Touch Attack (and failed save) the Bulette will shrink to half size, and is freed from the chains. If the Bulette has not taken damage it will attack a random party member on a 1-4, d6, or escape into the woods 5-6. If the Bulette has taken damage from the party, it will only attack a party member (once it is freed) on the roll of a 1, otherwise it will flee.
So I think, if it is untied, and then woken, it will probably flee and be no more of a threat to the area than an unusually aggressive brown bear (note, brown bears are not native to this land, but black bears are).

I'm... well... sort of a druid! Interestingly, a Nature Shaman never gets wild empathy.
On the bright side, there totally are rules for domesticating a young creature, and one check would realistically determine whether the whole endeavor succeeds, or fails, over a longish time frame, I don't have the book in front of me atm to specifically say the time frame.
On the 'bright' side, now that you mention blue skies... I have those. And snow. White snow. And I can't see -anything- outside. And there are people driving in this. I don't even.

Terquem |
Well, I think a Handle Animal check is called for, so we can get the game moving, and I'd like to see everyone chip in with an assist roll (a 10+, charisma ability check, to give Mina a +2 on the roll for each success). If we get a result of 20+, the Bulette will stay, eating food that is offered, and behave much like a young, wild grizzly bear that could be trained, something like Bart the Bear, eventually. However, it will still be dangerous, and could be a problem in the future.
How does that sound, everyone?

Mina Gemblossom |

Found and collected the proper information:
Rear a Wild Animal (DC 15 + HD + 5(because magical beast))
To rear an animal means to raise a wild creature from infancy so that it becomes domesticated. A handler can rear as many as three creatures of the same kind at once. A successfully domesticated animal can be taught tricks at the same time it’s being raised, or it can be taught as a domesticated animal later.
For tasks with specific time frames noted above, you must spend half this time (at the rate of 3 hours per day per animal being handled) working toward completion of the task before you attempt the Handle Animal check. If the check fails, your attempt to teach, rear, or train the animal fails and you need not complete the teaching, rearing, or training time. If the check succeeds, you must invest the remainder of the time to complete the teaching, rearing, or training. If the time is interrupted or the task is not followed through to completion, the attempt to teach, rear, or train the animal automatically fails.
TL;DR: It would take Mina 3 hours of working with it to know whether or not to untie it. If she can't meet the check, it will behave in a manner that will tell her it's unsalvageable. If she stops taking care of it for a few hours a day (until we get it to town, and pass it off to Marcus, who can give it the level of real care it needs), the whole thing fails.

I added an edit in there. XD That skunk is better at this than Mina. I still don't see it happening, even if you allowed the tasty morsel to aid in the endeavor. XD

Dieredon D'atarisian |

I hate to piss on anyone's parade, but I have not involved myself in character because I really do believe this is a futile effort. Fair warning, I am likely going to kill this thing very soon. This is a creature that we neither need nor should desire as a pet. It is a threat to the people innthe region I am tryingbto afford protection to.

Mina Gemblossom |

:p just be aware that others might be upset with your character's actions. In character, in my case. I'll never get upset that you play your character unless it's in -seriously- bad taste. :)

Calex |

Wow! Hey Riku, Welcome back! When Terquem mentioned a surprise in the next few posts I totally did not expect one of our lost players to reappear! Things look like they are gettin good!

Mina Gemblossom |

Also, my bad, Terquem. I was meaning that perception check as something along the lines of 'lookout' style perception. 'Spotting coming or going' I guess? I don't know precisely how to phrase it.

Terquem |
Instead of working on an update today, I dove into that map making thing I am supposed to be learning how to do.
Please note that a new map appears above, it is a bit map file, and shows the world as you know it the Islands of Urandoma and Baylor to the east of Alodoa, in the Mare Alad.
It's a start I suppose

I have one more final, but I swear I will have a good post up tomorrow.

Terquem |
I think that was a spectacular post Caorann, worth waiting for (and I think it could close up some open holes in the plot right about now)
I need to address Calex's post, he should certainly have learned something about the spell stones
I've been ignoring Marcus and Woodbridge for a long time and need to get a meanwhile... post up for him soon
Also, with Spring Break on the horizon I expect a lull in posting for the next week

I’ll be going out of town tomorrow through Thursday for a three day two night hiking get a way. I’ll be sating in a nice lodge that has internet access and I’ll have my touch pad, so if something comes up that needs my attention I’ll try to respond, otherwise enjoy the break
And thank you to everyone for being patient.

I hope that those who celebrate the holiday have a wonderful Easter or Passover, me not so much of a Christian or Jew (more like a non robe wearing Buddhist), but today I get to assemble a new swing set for my Grand Daughter. I think I need some kind of wrench or something I tried rolling to make it happen, but eh?

Mina Gemblossom |

I hear if you have State Farm you can get a ton of good stuff on a whim. But that might just be false advertisement.

Marcus -
The campaign Info tab contains a break down of the total population of Woodbridge, now from those numbers you would subtract the 27 Gymnaga, who obviously aren't going to be there.
The Lyphs that are pouring into Woodbridge now number about seventy, but that number continues to grow, on the other hand the entire lyph population will do just fine on the stage and in the tree above it.
Riverside, the island in the oxbow lake formed by the river, is roughly egg shaped, wider at the south and narrower at the north and has a total area of .1 square miles (or about 65 acres) it is 2322 feet long from north to south, and at it widest it is 1388 feet wide. The outer bank of the river is on the same elevation as the top of the water, while the inner bank (on Riverside) is about four feet above the water, meaning the bridge connecting Riverside to Lakeside has a ramp or stairs on the Lakeside side.
All of the population of Lakeside can easily camp on Riverside, including the few farm animals that there are (assume a couple of small horses, no more than eight cows, about a dozen small pigs, and at least forty chickens) but pens to keep the animals contained will need to be erected. The Goodwell family, who live on the southeast side of Riverside, have a pen for their sheep which number about thirty. Most of the houses on Riverside are on the east side of the island, while the west side has many willow trees and some open flat grassy areas.
The Maetaur had been clearing trees north of Woodbridge to more readily connect Woodbridge with Mingary Bend, so there are already a huge number of felled trees available to put to use (however, someone is going to mention that these trees were cut down for two reasons, one to make a road, and two, because they were infested with beetles, so there is going to be a riot if the trees are brought onto the island before they are stripped and cured in some kind of smoke with the right herbs that will kill the beetles). Your work to defend the island is certainly cut out for you.
Of the entire population, there are probably one hundred able individuals (males and females) who can fight, but not nearly that number of any kind of weapons. Mostly the community has bows and arrows, suited for hunting, a couple of small cross bows, and a few spears and old weapons left over from battles in the past. The Meataur have some spears, and a few weapon style hand axes, but not much more than this.
The village does not have a stock of iron, and any weapons made will require the re smelting of farm tools, which is going to cause frustration if some promise of getting those tools back isn't made.

Terquem |
Ack! I'm here, I'm swamped, don't give up on me.
The water varies from 2 meters to as much as four meters in depth, and the width of the lake is narrowest at the bridge, at nearly forty feet across. Wading is unlikely. Also, it is difficult to get out of the water on the island side of the lake as the ground is a bit higher than the surface of the water.

Calex |

So..um..exactly HOW much trouble will I be in after Marcus finishes building the defenses? (Since Calex's grant expressly forbids the building of any fortifications...) Don't misunderstand- I have absolutely no problem with him doing this. I'm just trying to find out how much flack I'll get for it. If it saves the village Calex is willing to take whatever comes.

Each Player Character receives 1,000 experience points. This is a Story award, a thank you for all you have contributed to keep this game going. Everyone should be level 3 now. Please take the time to update your experience point totals in your alias and get your characters ready for the next chapter.

Mina Gemblossom |

I'll set my experience to match the others. :P When I made my character level 3, I simply didn't want to have to level up the character so soon after creating it. :) Congrats to everyone else.
