The B Team - A 5e Adventure (Inactive)

Game Master bookrat

Maps

Hello, and welcome to being the second pick! Or maybe you're the third or fourth. Regardless, most people don't have much respect for you.

Who are you?

You are:
Beastmaster Ranger (PHB)
Way of the Four Elements Monk (PHB)
Wild Mage Sorcerer (PHB)
Battlerager Barbarian (Sword Coast)
Purple Dragon Knight Fighter (Sword Coast)
Undying Warlock (Sword Coast)

You may only be one of these six classes. I'll only accept one of each class. Starting Level is 8.

You may be any race from any book (standard humans get one free proficiency).

No multiclassing. No Feats. No Variant Human.

UA races accepted upon approval.

27 point buy.

All PCs start the game with one free feat from the following list:

Feats:
Athlete
Actor
Dungeon Delver
Healer
Inspiring Leader
Keen Mind
Linguist
Observant
Skulker

Starting Equipment: You start with all starting equipment as determined by your class, plus 500 GP.

Also, roll 4d10 for a special bonus.

I'll be running 2-3 modules, each module lasting 3-10 weeks. Modules TBD. I'm hoping to run a module at Level 8, 12, and 20.

I'll accept six players.

Rules:
Posting Rate: Once per Day. If you plan on missing a day, please give advanced notice (dropping by same day is ok, too). If you give notice, I'll bot you. If you do not give notice, you'll be skipped.

Can you prove all them naysayers wrong? Can you show that you're just as good - no, better - than those stuck up battlemasters and diviners and totem barbs and Hexblades and more? You're not the worst, and you'll show them wrong!

Ooh you meanie. No feats except those! ;)

Wild mage, reporting in. Will figure out race, etc. Probably won't go the necromancy route this time. XD

If I didn't have too many games as it is, bookrat, I would happily take up the challenge.

?: 4d10 ⇒ (8, 8, 2, 7) = 25

I'll go with inspiring leader. +13 temp hp is tasty.

I’d like a fast game. At the in laws tonight. Need to get back to my books to prioritize from that list. Any idea of setting and starting plot hook to settle on backgrounds?

Cheers

PS. I’ll work the monk

It'll be forgotten realms. I'll be running AL modules, I just haven't picked them out yet.

This idea came from a thread on another forum asking what the worst subclasses were. I believe that the "worst" really isn't all that much lower than the "best" in 5e. So I decided to put it to the test. If a group can make it through a few adventures at a couple of sample levels, then I'll be right*.

*This is in no sense of the word "scientific."

Hahaha. But how do you account for the free feat? Seems like that gives the B Team an unfair advantage.

Cause those are feats no one ever takes. They're also considered the worst of the worst. :)

Plus, I like giving those out as a free feat.

Yeah fair enough. Inspiring leader and observant are very good, though. I can't see how anyone rags on those.

Here's Jubal's Monk WIP. Finish tomorrow

cheers

Special stuff: Goggles of Night, Oil of Slipperyness

I'll reappropriate an alt to make a Dwarf Battlerager barbarian.

For our setting based info, should we be thinking Golarion, Forgotten Realms, Grayhawk, or something else?

1d10 ⇒ 71d10 ⇒ 41d10 ⇒ 11d10 ⇒ 8

I am going to take the Healer feat.

I'm interested. I wish to know more about 5e. I play in one game, but this is only limited experience. I'm also very happy with your approach to sub classes. However, perhaps the limitations are more keenly felt when they are in a party of "better" ones?

As for the setting, I'd also like to know. It helps a lot when creating the rest of the rest ;)

I'll get back to you with a concept. Choosing a class might take me forever!

Edit: I'm drawn towards the warlock. We'll see if I can think of a neat idea for it.

The setting is Forgotten Realms.

1d10; 1d10; 1d10; 1d10

I am going to take the Healer feat.

Your special items are: Weapon +1, Dust of Sneezing and Choking

Update: I'm drawn towards the warlock. We'll see if I can think of a neat idea for it.

4d10 ⇒ (4, 8, 9, 4) = 25

FR: Are we from a specific region or it doesn't matter and we can choose whichever we want?

Here's caster's submission! A bumbling merchant's daughter who throws random magic at whatever problems her low int score gets her into.

All: Feel free to play a race without darkvision as I'll trade you my goggles of night for something. Or just loan them to you. They don't help me.

Question: Should I just roll a d20 for the chance of a wild magic surge every time I cast a spell of 1st level or higher? RAW, I would only do so when called to do so by the GM but the odds of a wild magic surge are low enough I want to make sure some of them happen. :) Also, can I make any assumptions about how often you'll call for a surge based on my 1st level feature?

"Any time before you regain the use of this feature, the DM can have you roll on the Wild Magic Surge table immediately after you cast a sorcerer spell of 1st level or higher. You then regain the use of this feature."

special: 4d10 ⇒ (2, 2, 4, 8) = 16

Liberty's Edge

I'll jump onto the beastmaster ranger if that is ok.

Not too sure about race yet...will have to fiddle..lol

I’ll do the purple dragon knight.

Boon: 4d10 ⇒ (1, 8, 6, 4) = 19

Would you allow a centaur?

https://media.wizards.com/2018/dnd/downloads/UA-Centaur.pdf

A knight without the headache of caring for a horse. :)

We'll say Sword Coast for the region.

For GM surprises and any other questions, I'll have to answer later. Need to clean the house in prep for guests tonight. Got a game of Gloomhaven going on.

Dot!

Okay, here's my character so far. His elevator pitch background is that he's a Dwarf who's been fighting a one-man war against the enemies of his people: Giants, Orcs, and Goblins.

This is gonna be fun.

Hey Daniel! Been a while since I saw you! ~Nella

INTERESTED in the B Team
* Beastmaster Ranger (PHB) - Daniel
* Way of the Four Elements Monk (PHB) - Edlethron, Jubal
* Wild Mage Sorcerer (PHB) - Allie Hoop, Caster4life
* Battlerager Barbarian (Sword Coast) - Kag Splitsteel, Vrog
* Purple Dragon Knight Fighter (Sword Coast) - Grumbaki
* Undying Warlock (Sword Coast) - Dreaming

Dreaming Warforged here. There are a few things left to iron out. I plan to do so in the coming hours.

Here is the basics of my character so far. Will update and finish getting equipment if he is accepted as OK.

Also here are my rolls for items:

4d10 ⇒ (2, 2, 3, 1) = 8

Hey Caster....long time no see....glad to be playing with you again...as well as everyone else...hi everyone!!

Wow! I got a lot more interest in this game than I thought I would.

Ok, let's see here. Who do we have?

Complete:
Caster - Wild Mage, Allie (items received)
Jubal - Monk, Edlethon (items needed)
Vrog - Barb, Kag (items received)
Dreaming - Warlock, Corso (items needed)
Daniel - Ranger, Farran (items needed)

Still building:
Grumbaki - PDK
DM - Unstated

Answers:
• I'm ok with the centaur.
• Setting only matters if you care about it. You don't have to be from the sword coast.
• Wild Magic on PBP is something I need to think about.

Grumbaki here!

Gold: 5d4 ⇒ (4, 4, 4, 2, 2) = 16 160+500+10= 670 gold

Basic strategy will be to charge with a lance (2d12+5 damage) and then use two weapon fighting style to switch to Longsword, Shield and Hooves. So, rather than doing Hit and Run tactics, this Knight will be about charging into combat and stomping his way to victory.

——-

Basic Background: Sir Aldan left his forest home when he came across a Knight in distress. Intrigued with tales of the world beyond his woodland home, Aldan joined the Knight on his adventures. This continued for (approximately 8 levels), until Aldan became Sir Aldan in his own right.

He now rides...well...trots...his way down the sword coast. Eager to earn glory for his order, and to see all of the sights and wonders that the world has to offer.

Ok, I've looked through everyone's characters and things seem ok for the most part.

The major issue I'm having is that I've grown accustomed to a certain style of character sheets and it's difficult to read all the varied styles used here. Information can be challenging to find.

Because of that, I'll ask everyone to reformat your character sheet to match this: Character Sheet

The sheet summarizes key aspects of the character, like general stats, proficiencies, and spells, and then uses spoilers to go in deeper into class/race abilities (where each feature was gained and when), equipment, background, and then a few other tags for extras.

You can remove the logsheet tag, we won't need that here.

A template of the sheet can be found here.

Once we get into game, I'll have you update your tagline as well. If you want a jump start on it, you can use the same format found in the linked character profile above.

Preliminary changes needed for a few specific people:

Allie Hoop:
You need to pick a background.

Sir Arden:
Two Weapon Fighting does not work with natural weapons unless the natural weapon specifically states that it's a light weapon. However, since you're a fighter, you'll have the extra attacks to simply attack once with sword and again with hooves. You'd be better off picking a different fighting style.

Also, you get your starting equipment + 500 GP. You don't roll for starting gold.

There may be more; it'll be easier for me to figure out once everyone has a uniform character sheet.

Yeah it's tough for her. Would you allow criminal? She's only ever accidentally committed crimes but it looked pretty bad to the authorities when a strange young girl cast a spell to make it harder for bullies to hit the poor beggar girl in the town square and everything around her got engulfed in flames. Thankfully, they didn't really get a chance to ID her...

Will format shortly.

This is gonna be fun...

Updated to fit your format, I think. It speeds things up immensely to have them regular.

Updated.

Not that it matters, I just find it amusing. So far, both of you have done:

Human: Acolyte: Cleric (Light)

Instead of

Race: Human, Background: Acolyte, Class: Cleric (Light)

They convey the same info, I just thought it was funny that the descriptor was removed for the description. :)

Haha. That is kind of funny. It's a sensible interpretation as it's pretty clear that Cleric means my class but your intended template is extremely clear and nicely organized. :)

Anybody want to trade for my goggles of night?

Still taking Submissions Bookrat? If so I’ll hop in on this.

Sure!

Corso Special items: Helm of Comprehend Languages, Potion of Hill Giant Strength

Edlethon Special Items: Javelin of Lightning, Quall's Feather Token (fan). 1d100 ⇒ 40

Sir Arden Special Items: Shield +1, Oil of Sharpness

Farran Special Items: Weapon +1, Potion of Invisibility

hmmm, so for the character idea. Am i competing or should I look at something that would fit into the group? AL supports up to 7. I was thinking of just finding a niche so that I can double up on a class but feel different. That way we all get to play.

here is my 4d10 btw

4d10 ⇒ (9, 10, 7, 6) = 32

Grey, there's really only one option left for the worst archetypes list, and that's the Trickery Cleric. Want to go for it?

Assuming Grey is coming in with a trickery Cleric, I'm going to open up the game.

Here's the gameplay link:

Gameplay - please dot and delete

And here's the discussion:

Discussion - Come on in and introduce yourself!

I’m for sure up for the Trickery Cleric. I’ll have it built this evening.

Sounds good! Recruitment is now closed.

Congratulations and enjoy!
