Out of my three characters, I think Ace would be the only one I could possibly see accepting such a mission, and even then, I do not know if he actually would.
If I were to be apart of this, either as an evolved form of the club Lyn mentioned, or as a more "Ryo has had enough bad s#!# happening to his school, time to fight back" sort of creation, I would want to bring in a new PC for the team. Which, I have several in the works already. Although, for this, I might come up with a brand new one.
Which brings to a question I've been meaning to ask for awhile now, but always would forget:
Lyn, awhile ago, I seem to recall you sort of casually throwing out a city elsewhere on Agartha that I **think** was sort of a dark, thieves' guild, bandit type place.
If this actually was something you brought up before, what was the city named?

I found the post you're looking for MG.
Yes, I'm awesome. Thank you.

As the Archangel of Awesome, I officially dub FireclawDrake awesome!
Dude, how teh heckie did you find that? Also, wow, that post was a little under two years ago, and I still remember it, lol.
Thanks buddy!
Lyn, new question, is Lemnos still a place to hail from?
♣♠Magic♦♥ |
Archena no.
Hermes... Does Hermes have the three laws? Are those a thing here?
Kevin, no. Nothing sentient. Unless he goes crazy, which is an option. Probably not.
Lewis only if the kid was threatening Tarka.
Lim-Môr depends on who's in control. Real Lim-Môr would be violently ill after if Nero did that while in control and Gian might commit Sepuku...
Rakki would never...
Sara is a child herself. And no. Never.
Tybs doesn't kill things. At all. Never. He still feels really guilty about hurting Pyry as bad as he did.
Shiro is past too old for anything like that. He probably wouldn't have ever.
I'm actually concerned with how many of my characters have addendums to this...
Arthur Barren |
No Hermes doesn't... Sorta... The base servant model sorta does, but when he was converted to be Arthur's personal bodyguard, those blocks of code were rendered inactive, but not deleted. Your "three laws" are basically 1: Protect Arthur Barren 2: ensure no damage is done to self or property of Arthur Barren 3: Do as instructed by Arthur b
Barren
PM for more details.

He's a robot.
That's kinda how they work.
Then he isn't sentient.
A sentient robot would be a thinking creature, just like humans.
We use chemical and electrical impulses.
They just use electrical.
Not too big of a difference.
Unless you believe humans are also governed by absolute mental laws.

I had had a school club proposed that would be a way of organizing the various quest type things. Basically an X-men style group heading out to tackle the problems that either pop up around the area or requests for help to Avalon on the grounds that if a problem is big enough, you have to ask the monsters for help. (Most of the planet views Avalon as a convenient way of corraling the monsters away from everyone else. Just because you call them students doesn't make them normal.) I forget who was supposed to be taking point on that one. I know I approved it, but then it sorta slipped away from my attention.
Jiminy's group will be expanding soon as he recruits more pilots and support staff, but they're more intended to be a Planetary Defence team. They do some occasional day saving on Agartha as well, but mostly they are focused on threats that come from space. So there may be some overlap between the groups, but they have different missions. And you're right re:Jeran and killing children: Hell to the no! His big backstory trauma as revealed during the last book retrieving mission centers on not being able to save his little brother from being murdered by his uncle. Definitely counter to his morality.
As far as an Uncanny X-force style team, *shrug* if it develops out of the club then fine. There are certainly a number of semi-reformed (kinda, mostly, at least they can put on a good show in public) bad guys among the students and staff. (Miss Jones, Ephebe, Nala, Jaiye....and those are just my characters, there are plenty more played by others). But I wouldn't set out to build such a team deliberately.
That was me.
Still 'in progress'. Doing research first.

thing is, he didn't start out that way, and technically he has only one "absolute" law, that being to protect Arthur Barren, the rest are a massive series of laws ranked against each other often conflicting with each other (follow law 7 unless it conflicts with laws 1-6)
Thing is he has several sets of these lawsLaw number 3 sometimes conflicts with itself
From my psychology classes and from personal experience this makes him rather similar to humans except his are ranked with levels of importance... Most of them anyway

Also, Jiminy/whoever is orchestrating things in Kuros, Wyrd reported to the center of Kuros and is looking for instructions. If it is not important storyline-wise, he is simply working on repairing/reinforcing the earth-based constructions in town.
He is a background thing anyway so not a big deal to be all hand-wavey with him.

Kryzbyn wrote:Umm...Jiminy already has that going, kinda. His mech pilots, I'm guessing? Good(ish) guys, who jump into big badass suits to help save the day, even if its just clean up duty.
The Uncanny X-Force was a team of the baddest of the bad heroes, many of whom have had stints as villains, whose first mission was to assassinate Apocalypse, reborn in the body of a child.
Not really seeing Mithros and Jeran(especially after Team Hotguys mission) murdering any children....
Mithros blew apart a 15 year old girl.
With his Mecha.Kryzbyn |
Krays - LN. He will kill for the greater good, Easily.
Mithros - Evidence he will. He won't like it, but he will.
Casseus - CN. Yeah.
Ryuzo - Also LN. Trained as an assassin.
Ghalen - Balanced on LN/LE. Was trained to do horrible things for the greater good. Luckily, what he considers the greater good has shifted.
Tyrrin is shifting his outlook.
Al'rqyq - Would only take a life in defense of himself or others.
Gavin - LG. I dunno...I seriously doubt he would. He's very pie in the sky kind of naive atm.
Kor - NG would die himself to protect children, without hesitation. He would pour himself into eliminating the necessity for the choice, rather than make that choice.
He would never accept it was necessary to take a child's life, under any circumstances.
Monkeygod |
Yea, and how did Mithros feel about it? and he only did that because she was a legit, immediate threat, right then and there.
Would he have done the same if Jiminy ordered him to kill her, because in twenty years, she was going to become some sort of monstrous dictator, and best to kill her now while she's innocent and powerless? (Hypothetical, new situation, mind.)
Also, Lyn,
I know you're not keen on Book of Nine Swords, but what about Dreamscarred Press' Path of War? Or is it all maneuver based classes period, that aren't allowed?
MisterLurch |
War is Hell.
That is all.Being a soldier has to be a Hellish job, if you have any soul and are not just a machine of flesh responding to orders (or conditioned into that).
Needless to say... yeah.
Snuh.
Yes, war is hell. There are good memories from my time as a soldier, and there are bad ones. But war is hell.
Monkeygod |
Cold blooded murder of a child then?
(And Jiminy wouldn't do that. He would alter reality to make it not an option.)
I don't even think Casseus would kill a child because of what it "might" become. That's firmly in the Evil category.
That's exactly what the Uncanny X-Force team was tasked to do in their first arc. Apocalypse was reborn as a child, and they were sent to assassinate him before he grew up to become Apocalypse.

The protagonists (or more accurately the organization several protagonist belong to) of Robert Heinlien's later books use time travel to do things like keep hitler from being conceived (turns out that that's a bad idea but then that's a long story then they were more conserved with peace and harmony than morality

Well, when you can just use druid magic to get awesome crops, who needs to add chemicals and stuff? So I'm guessing that yes, the food is mostly organic. And mostly shipped in. Occasionally processed via nanite, but not that often. It's an inefficient use of energy.

Time confusion regarding Team Hot Guys: Dami, the thing about them coming back to Avalon mere moments after they left means that the team is still at the end of second hour and the rest of the school is now at lunchtime. Was that what you intended or did I read your post wrong?

To make lives easier-- they return whenever. I'm not attached to the outcome. I was merely doing it to point out that their (the Team's) experience /elsewhere/ should be odd in that time passed relatively instantly compared to Avalon.
Given what Magic brought up with Isolab and what not, it's likely or possible their detox treatment/whatever, eats up the time to bring us to lunch.
Again-- not attached to the specifics, it's a minor detail that would matter if someone thought on it deeply.
Proceed as needed/desired to achieve sync. I don't mind.

This is what I meant by my previous post on the subject.
I understand that your places has time dilation, and if we hadn't moved on in the time line elsewhere, there'd be no issue, but as it is now, we'd be hours behind everyone else.I offered the disease checks and processing as a means to delay us to where the time line is now.
Ergo, not messing up the B.B.O.W.W.T.W.S.
