As far as brainstorms go, Dalesman and I were discussing maybe wrapping up Laeren with an "in conclusion" style post and doing a timeskip, but I am also down with a sidestory or vignette to ease back in. A small list off the top of my head. This is assuming we want to still remain relatively canon, if we wanna completely exit canon for the moment then I've got more ideas:
Minor PCs engage in a sporting event of some sort
'No-name' members of the Resistance engage in a near-suicidal covert/guerilla action (Rogue One style)
Imperial subjects are thrown into a deadly reality show for the amusement of their overlords.
The students at Mentor try not to destroy everything Just some spitballing. Happy to be typing again. :)
I'm okay with any of these ideas!! I too would be happy doing anything within game again. I miss ya'll lots :)
Also, while I totally understand this might not be likely any time soon, or maybe even ever, I have found a great group of players here on Paizo. We're in several games together, in various combinations, and if it were possible, I would love to invite them to Avalon.

Hmm. An obstacle course based off of the Chase Rules, maybe? And monsters and stuff can be fakes?
I mean, if we're gonna do an obstacle course, we should go full tilt and just make it MXC lololol.
I expect there to be commentators akin to Kenny and Vic, along with a field reporter like Guy LeDouche.....

Yes, I love this idea. I think we need some light fluff to get our groove back....or at least I do! :P
Of course now I'm picturing some kind of weird hybrid between Quidditch and Chase....see if you can get the ball in the goal before it gets eaten!
Edit:oooh, and with a side of Japanese game show! Nice, MG! That sounds awesome! :D

FireclawDrake |

So uh... in my IRL Starfinder game atm they are in the middle of a Halls of the Living battle royale and because I felt like spicing it up, the commentators are full on MXC style, down to "Right you are Ken!" being a table meme in the last few sessions...

Was thinking over the potential format for the possible MXC style obstacle course, and came up with the following two possibilities.
1) Team elimination: Players either form teams on their own, or are randomly assigned a team(Both options allow for different stories to be told). Events can be ran solo or as a group. Success is determined by how many reach the end. Speed of completion is probably not a factor, but could earn bonus points(or maybe even take them away if you're extra slow). If a player is eliminated(falls into water, knocked out, eaten, etc) they are off the team for the remainder of events.
2) Solo running: This would be a bracketed style version. Players run an event on their own. Success is based on how fast you complete an event, and certain time must be beat to continue to the next event(Ie, you have to be faster than 5 minutes, for example). Players can still be eliminated as well.
Since I'm unsure if Lyn would be up to 'being in charge' of this, I think one of the older players should run the games. Personally, I nominate either Dragonborn or Dalesman.
As for determining if a PC succeeds or not, maybe each event has a set DC, and a simple d20 is used. Possibly with no modifiers, so this way nobody can just breeze through all the events. Though that does mean events can only have a DC of 1-20. Which may not be a bad thing.
If you hit the DC exactly(Ie, it's a DC 10 and you roll a 10), you barely make it through, and have a slow time(if that matters). If you succeed by 5 or more, you speed through the event. If you fail by 5 or more, you're eliminated.
Should you roll a natural 20, you set the record for the event(if a time) or your whole team makes it through the event regardless of their rolls. If the solo team run is used, and you get a nat 20, you either earn bonus points or save a teammate from elimination.
The opposite of that would happen should one roll a natural 1.
******
Wow, this sorta took off with a mind of it's own, but I think these idea can serve as a good baseline to work from :)

I feel like not having anything that would apply would make it a little weird. Harder to find creative solutions to what they encounter, but I'm down for anything that would breath life into this game
Unsure what you mean here? Are you not into my suggestion of just a straight d20 roll with no modifiers?

that's about right, though with the caveat that I will accept anything that will help jumpstart this game

My concern with allowing modifiers is how do we prevent characters with high or solid bonuses from basically auto-winning?
For example, Ace would pretty much be able to breeze through almost any sort of event I could reasonably come up with. Thankfully, he's away from campus, and even if he wasn't I was going to have him sit this out, since it would be too easy for him to win, should it be anything beyond a straight d20 roll.
I'm sure there's a lot of PCs that can likely auto succeed on a lot of these events. I'm sure a lot of the ninjas wouldn't have much trouble, for example.
Of course, we all also need to likely ban flying, teleporting and other evasive abilities.

Let's get a list going of who all will be involved in the Avalon Games!!
Fireclaw Drake:
Midori
Illithia
Vai
Monkeygod:
Serrin
Silinrul
Ardiente
*However*, I also plan on being a sort of MC, so if people think I shouldn't have my PCs involved as well, I'm okay with that :)

I could send in Lucas

MG, that sounds like a really good well-thought out plan. :)
And yeah, what FCD said, the sim rooms can modify the course based on participant. I mean, in order to be totally free to be creative and crazy, it's gotta be done in the sim rooms anyways, so take advantage of the AI being able to help. (I kinda wonder at this point how long until the sim AI develops full self-awareness. I mean, I know I set it up as having a limiter to prevent that, but *snerk* like that's ever stopped anything from happening before :P) So yeah, a straight up roll to show that it's been modified to be mostly a matter of luck sounds good to me.
Hmm. Maybe some screen time for characters who haven't been involved in the main plot for a bit?Seems like that would work best. Morrivan maybe, and possibly Pan or Alev and Etain. They've barely had any screen time at all.

James "J.J." Jones |

I can throw in some of my Starfinder characters as "students" for colour if you'd like as well. (JJ is great, and fits right in at Avalon).

Personally, I'm okay with any characters joining, but I suppose Lyn would have the final say.
Updated list of contestants!!
Fireclaw Drake:
Midori
Illithia
Vai
James "J.J. Jones(Maybe)
Monkeygod:
Serrin
Silinrul
Ardiente
Lord Foul II
Lucas (that it? Don't you have like 5+ PCs for Avalon? Come on, no pain, no gain! lol)
Dragonborn3:
Pyry
Anthony.
(No others big guy? *Disappoint* :P lol)
Lynora:
Morrivan
Pan
Alev
Etain.
I would tease you for not having more of your PCs, but since you're also the main narrator here, **plus** you're just comin back to life, you get a pass :P lol

Been a bit busy last week, but thought about maybe opening this concept up to other schools/regions?
This way if people want to run non Avalon PCs, they would be able to?
Also, unsure exactly how to get this started in game. Any suggestions? Or if somebody have an idea they can go ahead and get a post up :)

Ugh, it’s been a really crazy week. So last week my husband had a heart attack. He was able to get to the hospital during the early stages of it, and they were able to fix the problem with several stents, so the outcome is overall good. He was in the hospital for about three days before they released him and has been recovering at home since. He’s cranky about the dietary changes and has to be watched like a hawk to make sure he doesn’t try to lift more than he should (he has pretty severe limits on physical activity for now for obvious reasons), but he’s trying to cooperate with doctors orders for the most part. And I don’t need to hover quite as much now as he is slowly getting better.
So anyways, hope y’all are having a better week than that! :P
As far as how to get things started, I can put up a narrator post if you like to explain the transition to temporary side plot. And yeah, sure, have it be a sort of welcome activity for visitors if you like. Folks considering the school or exchange programs or whatever. This whole interlude is kind of outside our normal narrative structure, so no reason not to take advantage of that

In the PF group on FB, they asked which of your characters would you like to wake up as.
There's a few I could chose, but I eventually settled on Ace. Which made me realize how much I miss you all.
I know I dropped the ball with that Avalon Games idea, but things got a lot hectic around my house(nothing too overly bad) and some other games kicked up and needed my attention.
I hope everyone is doing well. I worry about Lyn and the pandemic, I pray she is okay.

![]() |

If I were to wake up as one of my characters I wouldn't want to be Dave. He'd be able to do everything to the point of being boring outside this specific setting, and even there he's very much a product of being rather early in my writing... career is the wrong word, but close enough.
Arthur would be pretty fun to be.
Out of the several dozen characters he'd be either my third or fourth favorite character to suddenly inhabit the body of.
Lucas would probably be around 5th-6th place there

"Ace" |

The question was "Which of your PF/D&D characters would you want to wake up as." Any of the ones you've ever played, in all the games you've ever played.
It was actually really difficult for me: Veldrin, my insanely powerful necromancer god. Davin Sunfury, an epic, mythic badass from my upcoming Broken Golarion setting. Dimitri Von Zarovich, a vampire undead hunter in Ravenloft. Calesha Durothil, a warpriest of Corellon Larethian. And a bunch of others.
I decided on Ace for a number of reasons. He's very similar to me in a lot of ways. I've always loved shape-changing, and power mimicry/adaptation as super powers. Plus, he's got an amazing girlfriend, an awesome group of friends, and goes to a sentient, semi-futuristic school. Sure, it's often under attack, and the entire universe might collapse soon, but hey, these things happen, LOL.

Kobold Catgirl |

Such is the way, I suppose!
I'm always surprised by how mean I wrote Vakkler when I go back to read his old content. I guess I really leaned into the "antagonistic authority figure" role for him. Maybe a bit too heavy, though. Or maybe I'm just more sensitive to it after student teaching and actually meeting teachers like him.
