I've got the PF2 books upstairs, but have only looked them over once. I didn't see a whole lot of similarities to SF, other than the new layouts in the book.
Mostly in the design ethos but here's a few:
-Damage dice increases over static damage increases. (a +5 greataxe does 6d12 damage in PF2. This is also how SF scales damage).
-You can see early parts of the 3 action economy in SF with all the Move action using stuff (PF1 didn't have much move-action related economy). TBH you could probably transfer SF to 3 action economy with relatively little trouble.
-The Envoy's skill expertise (SF) is basically the origin for skill feats (PF2)
-The Mechanic's drone ability is a blueprint for how animal companions work in PF2
-PF2 uses SF's Bulk system for carrying capacity.
-Most the PF2 are built the same way as most of SF's classes. (Aka a few core abilities and then every 2nd level choose from a plethora of options to really customize the meat of your character).
-4 ability boosts every 5 levels was a SF thing, and does alot to help mitigate MAD problems.
Those are a few off the top of my head.

The funny thing is that the Dev's have claimed to have been working on PF2 before SF, and that is why SF has so many similarities. You'd think after the backlash on mechanics they'd have learned their lesson, but no, it is "class = role as we think it should be" now. Or at least it started that way. I hear Paladins get to use ranged weapons again.

As far as me returning to play Again, pending final confirmation from Lyn it'll probably look like this:
-I'll play Vai again.
-Tyrrin and Ehos will remain NPCs and I will decide if I am ready for them after the Equinox arc.
-MG will continue to play Ardiente.
-I'll probably help Lyn close out the Equinox arc (We agreed on this idea but haven't talked about specifics yet).
-If the elementary school needs some love Midori will see play again as well.
-Most of my other characters were not terribly integral and will either fade away completely (Vare and Rena are at Mentor now) or elsewise remain background NPCs.

So .. somehow I stopped getting updates for this game and I am now completely out of touch. :(
Between how busy everything at work and home has been, it took a lot longer than it should have for me to realize that The Silence had gone on a lot longer than was at all normal.
I am sorry for any of that .. I am trying to catch up and get ready to get back to posting ..

This is going to seem a little like twisting the knife so I apologize for that, but since there are some people following the playtest in here:
Omg I am so happy they killed signature skills from PF2. Nuked the whole idea from orbit. That was one of my biggest hangups, and it really needed to go and it went! So very happy about that.

So I just found out that unchained rouges can't get ki pools.
I'd ask the devs why, but I can't expect them to actually care when they're throwing away PF1 like trash in a year.
If a class can do the same thing as another, but have way better toys, why have both? It's just too bad they chose ninja instead of rogue to stand their ground, instead of giving all the rogues toys away...
icehawk333 |
The rouge never had as good of a ki pool, having thier wisdom mod with no level, rather then CHA+1/2 level, and never getting the advanced talents.
It didn't ninja better then ninja, but it could still do things like acsess smoke bomb or the high jump power.
It puts several things that make sense for the rouge to have out of reach, as you can't multiclass rouge and ninja.

Okay, so I got a question about the Svarog family dynamics from Icehawk, and it's a good question as they have strange family dynamics for a firebird noble house. So I'm answering it here since there are others who might also need the reminder. There are three siblings that share control of the house, although one of them is nominally the head of house. Their children have all been raised together and when they appear in public are often mixed up so that outsiders can't tell who belongs to who. This is partly for safety and partly due to the more cooperative (internally anyhow) nature of their family. They're basically the polar opposite of the Suryas in that regard. Lucas, Lily, and Phaedra are the children of the nominal head of house and Lucas is the only one of the children who has been publicly singled out as the heir presumptive, but not too comfortably as there are plenty of others to choose from if he screws up. Pyrrhos is the only child of the second sibling. And Solus, Cindra, and Hestia are siblings. But all the cousins have been raised together and it isn't unusual for them to refer to a cousin as if they were a sibling, because they were taught to do so to promote confusion among rivals. If Lucas screws up, Pyrrhos is likely to become head of house in the future. Cindra and Hestia are considered unsuitable because of their odd talents. Lily and Phaedra are going to be in the same boat once Lily's odd talents are discovered and currently Phaedra has no abilities whatsoever. And Solus would rather give himself a root canal every day than be in charge. Of the noble houses, Svarog is by far the most progressive, at least publicly, but some of that is attempting damage control as they have so many children with odd talents.

I think I can probably handle playing Lily again as well. I'm just looking for a scene for her... might need an assist to pull her out of her shell.
The last thing that happened with her was finding out she had a psychic power of sorts, and then panicking. While she's probably a bit calmer now, I doubt she's in a good frame of mind in regards to basically anything right now.
Thoughts?

Lily has mostly been sulking alone in her room while she tries to sort out her complicated feelings about new abilities she doesn't want to admit that she has, so it's no real difficulty to bring her back in whenever. Or leave it for a bit if you want to work on other characters for a while. She can sulk publicly or privately, depending on how much she wants to take out her feelings on others at the moment. ;P

So an RL friend of mine was watching me read the thread and wondering what I was doing so I explained it to him... And now he wants to play. I told him that now isn't a great time to join the game.
Just wanted to let you know Lyn, he would like to play whenever you are feeling up to it, if that's alright.

Just need a good path/scene for the sulk to come out publicly now...
Whoever you think can deal with a very emotional, conflicted and mean spirited young lady. ;)

Depends. Deal with maturely or immaturely?

Oh definitely immaturely. That'll go great. :D (For certain definitions of great)

It really doesn't have the right to be as good as it is, but damn it's good! One of my favorite parts? It is inclusive without shoving down your throat ever other scene.
Apparently there was some controversy over the last season and queerbaiting with Shiro and Adam, which in retrospect I can see why it would upset people, but at the same time they have done so much else right in the inclusiveness regard that they can have a few missteps here and there.
Honestly I kinda wanna play a campaign set in the universe after the end of season 7. Making homebrew for that game would be hella fun I'd imagine.

I don't see it as baiting. It just wasn't important to the story to say more. Now in season 8 I could see it coming up again. There are lots of encampments to search for human prisoners after all.
What interests me is the the Galra, Alteans, and Humans seem capable of crossbreeding. What link do they have?

And this is why I keep hoping beyond hope that Mechfinder/Starmech will actually see the light of day. (^-^)

Heck not even the Mech aspect that interest me most, since you could probably get away with the current vehicle/starship rules if you wanted to play with them a bit (starships are more designed around a crew of PCs ala Star Trek/Firefly than around single pilots, but you could work it if you tried), it's the freaking crazy fantasy space stuff they have going on. Anytime I need inspiration for Starfinder, I know where to look ;)
