My condolences Lyn, but I have some good news (and bad news)-
I'm on new medication, and I have a scrap of my old enthusaim back.
Two charecters I've been planning on, a couple rebuilds, some extra worldbuilding, Questions about a few things Havel is doing, and two plots, one small and one large, are on my to do list.
The bad news is- once you give the word that it's ok to send them, you're getting a lot of PM's, Lyn.
*waves* Hey. Still here. Sorry for causing worry. At the end of hell month and managed to help the kidlet catch up and pass all classes...woo! Now we have to figure out how to get the non epileptic seizures to stop >.< This is a whole other thing and we have many much therapy to do and nobody even knows how we are going to manage when school starts again in the fall. *sigh*
Anyhow the short version is that I have been too overwhelmed to process stuff and communicate and things. And obviously kidlet comes first, so when that doesn’t leave any energy left for other things...*shrug* Trying to get back to doing things needed for basic personing like interacting with other people and writing journals and crap like that. But first catching up on sleep! Sleep as it turns out is a vitally important part of basic functioning...
Take your time Lyn, we were just worried cuz we love ya!! Hopefully you'll be able to come back to us soonish, but if not, we'll still be here when you're feelin up to posting.
Just do us a favor and poke in from time to time to let us know you're alive or haven't been kidnapped by aliens, k? lol :)
On a more serious note, what I am doing is struggling with language skills. I'm not a fan of the selective mutism. It's hella embarrassing, tbh. But I'm not having an easy time with writing either. Over-editing gone wild until I just give up. This article does an adequate job of explaining what I'm experiencing. Some of you will be able to relate more than others. I've gone from masking too well to not at all, and it's not the first time I've had a breakdown like this. I know my language will come back if I give myself some space. I've been practicing on twitter. Short form is easier. Relatively speaking. Hey, I'm down to only ten minutes of panic to post a freaking cat pic! Lord, I wish that were an exaggeration. :/
I'm sorry it took me so long to put together enough words to let y'all know what was going on. I did not mean to just ghost. I am trying to get back to 'normal', for certain definitions of normal that definitely include cranking out paragraphs of interactive fiction on a regular basis. Cause I miss that more than I can tell you.
I decided to follow our lovely and awesome GM over on the Twitter Machine, and I can happily inform you she still lives! Unless of course she decided to possess her phone in order to keep Tweeting from beyond the grave!! LOL!
Also, awesome note, I'm in a recruitment basically for demigods, and I've decided to give my 'angel of light' PC the Sunwake last name! :)
Hope everything is going alright with everybody. :)
Gaming tidbit: last Sunday I figured out how to use Iajistu with a headbutt in L5R 1st Edition. My GM was laughing hard enough he had to use his inhaler.
Hey DB3, it's going pretty good. Hopefully the same for you.
I've been bumping around the site a bit more due to the playtest (at least, when the site is working). Liking alot of the playtest rules and glad they didn't just make 3.P.5 and instead went in a brand new direction. Good stuff. Still a few kinks to iron out but I am hopeful.
On the RP side of things IRL I am running 2 Starfinder campaigns, a 5e campaign. In addition there's PF2 campaign on Roll20. Busy busy! Luckily most of them are not a weekly affair.
I guess I should get to the meat of my post:
A few months ago Dalesman suggested that I dip my toe back in since I missed you guys and I admit that I did want to, but was never sure.
Now I am sure: I would like to rejoin the game, even if just with 1 character
I realize that this is a bad time for this post since Lyn is having her own troubles right now, and I hope I can emphasise for her that I understand why I was asked to leave and that it was an emotionally taxong thing to do. Lyn if you don't want to or can't answer then nothing changes so there is no pressure to provide a response.

Honestly, pre-breakdown I don't think I would have gone for it. But having to practice forgiving myself for my weaknesses has put me in a different mindset. So good time for asking for a second chance. ^.^
Send me a PM and we can discuss what you want a return to look like, and try to work something out.

No more nice red dot? I used to get so excited about that lol.

Um, I don't recall if there's a 'nice read dot' or not, but you definitely get a notification in the top right corner Dalesman mentioned :)
Also, excited to have you back!! I have my own suggestion as to who you should return to playing, but I'm clearly biased lol.
There's definitely no 'you have mail' dot anymore. I've taken to keeping a separate tab open to messages so I can keep track of it. I think it does give an indicator on the drop down menu on the laptop, but I'm usually accessing the site on my phone and there's no indicator there. I definitely miss it.

Been going through my old PMs to remind myself of plans and stuff (as well as rereading the thread). Some great stuff in there. Also some not so great stuff, like the time Umineko yelled at me in PM for calling him homophobic. Gooood times.
I have been a bit. Enjoying it thoroughly, though I feel there are a few kinks to iron out (like needing a general set of class action feats), and more Basic actions to engage in that aren't feat-taxed. I also feel that spells are something of a missed opportunity. I'd like to see more spells designed like Magic Missile or Harm/Heal, where there is flexibility and choice in the number of casting actions, instead of the default being 2.
They borrowed alot of the design ethos from Starfinder, which has fast become my favourite version of 3rd edition.

Starfinder seems simple and from what I know, AC tanking is basically impossible.
I love sprawling options and detailed optimizations
... sometimes I enjoy making charecters more then playing the game itself.
Just today I came up with a build that uses preformance combat to take 1000+ feet of movement in one round while full attacking, or at least, until the DM caps free actions, by using preforming combatant and a feat that makes swift preform checks a free action, and allows you to use performance combat feats with that free action, so you can mocking dance after every attack.

Starfinder is hugely equipment based (I hate the idea of equipment that could be even considered as useful as the person holding it, unless the equipment is also a person.)
Starfinder seems to be based around an attempt at simplicity and game balance. (I understand why people like this one, but I hate it so.)
Starfinder is a sci-fi setting. (Assumedly pathfinder 2 isn't, but honestly I prefer settings where sword and bows are still viable, even if it doesn't make sense when there are guns in the setting)
Starfinder is of the mind that you shouldn't really be able to AC tank. (Saw some numbers, and agaisnt a foe of equal level, you can't even get your AC high enough that they miss half the time.)
In short, my starfinder hate boils down to-
It really doesn't mesh with what I like in tabletop RPG's.
I can get why some people like it, but it frustrates me on many levels.
Pazio will be releasing PF1 stuff up until they are finished with the playtest, or next GenGon, so you have some time.
Also, a lot of people are currently very unhappy with the changes made, so I get the feeling there will still be plenty of PF1 games out there.
Finally, I know some of the 3pp are taking a very wait and see approach as to whether they will be making PF2 material, and many have said that as long as their is still demand for PF1 product, they will keep making them.
TL;DR, no need to get upset and despair, PF1 may no longer be supported via Paizo directly(come next Aug, maybe), but it's not going to just die off and go away.
No need to apologize, Icy. If you can't talk about edition wars on a gaming site, where can you?! ;)
I'm recovering. Slower than I'd like. Turns out I no can language under intense stress, especially when a lot of that stress comes from faking 'normal'. Fun with autism. *sigh*

Obviously this is a matter of style rather than objective fact so I can appreciate your opinion. Especially about the lack of crunch. I am currently playing in a 5e game and sometimes the rules seem to intentionally omit important parts of the rules for the sake of simplicity and it frustrates me to no end.
However my experience with Starfinder is that it is actually less equipment reliant than PF1E. At least in the sense that there isn't nearly as much equipment tax. No more need to get amulets of natural armour, rings of protection and resistance upgraded ASAP as you level. While it's true that you still need to regularilu upgrade armour and weapons, even the diversity of weapons means that there is more wide power vs tall power (to borrow a phrase from Civ). In other words, equipment in Starfinder tends to encourage more options in combat over bigger numbers. My last few PF1 games I ran we used automatic magic progression because my players were bored of buying the same magic items every game.
Unfortunately I also feel that PF2E slid a bit backwards on this particular aspect (there is more equipment tax in PF2E than SF).
Again, a matter of style, but I personally feel that the math in SF is very finely tuned, but requires a but of a perspective shift. The CR+4 boss is going to be around 80-90% hit rate, but the CR-3 minions are more like 15-25% hit rate. This makes CR+4 enemies massively more dangerous than in PF1, especially with how full attacks work in SF (two attacks each at -4). As a DM it makes me feel encounters are much easier to make more dynamic. (Okay a few minions cool and that one has a plasma cannon! Priority target! But wait the boss is a massive threat too! What do)
Anyway, just wanted to express why I love Starfinder, I can definitely see your perspective too, and probably would have agreed with it 10 years ago. (I feel like an old giddy at times).

That being said, would it be more stressful if the thread started moving again or more encouraging? If it's the former then I will hold off.
Even for neurotypical people, trying to fit definitions of "normal" isn't very fun, I can't imagine what it would be like to have a large part of yourself denied because of it.
I've got the PF2 books upstairs, but have only looked them over once. I didn't see a whole lot of similarities to SF, other than the new layouts in the book.
Should anyone be interested a play-by-post possibility for those really wacky characters that you might not get a chance to play in the normal run of things.
It's a rules super light game based in the same world as Realms of Agartha (Here is the original Agartha thread for anyone who is interested. Not required reading, kinda different setting, but can give you a good feel for how rules light plays.), though it's not necessary to have read or even be remotely familiar with that thread. I'll gladly fill you in on the basics. Basically the action would be taking place in a school for magical youngsters. Think a mashup of Hogwarts and the Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters. Existing characters include weredragon triplets and a good-aligned demon. Power level starts in the mid to upper teens. This is really the beauty of rules almost free, it actually supports that without making you want to tear out hair trying to keep track of all the details. Cause sometimes its fun to play superheroes. :)
We do use dice rolls, but sparingly, and if you have a concept that isn't easily supported by existing rules we can help you cobble together something that works since really all you need is a basic idea that lets you know what to roll for attacks, saves, damage, etc. The focus is more on the shared storytelling aspect of the game.
Power level is mid to high teens. Loosely Pathfinder/3.5 based. The current thread has been going for a couple of months, but we've had a few players drop out, so need to fill a few slots.
In game it's about two weeks into the term, so you can choose to be a late transfer or easily say that you've been there all along and just hadn't interacted with the main story before.
Rules light means don't sweat the numbers. Rule of cool wins over RAW every time. :)
All you need to know is your attack bonus, AC, saves, and maybe a few key skills, but really there's a lot of handwaving and it's okay to improvise. The focus of the game is on cooperative storytelling rather than crunch.
Feel free to take a look at the thread and read through a little bit of it if you want to see how it looks in play.
What do you want by way of a stat block or back story?
I think I will run with a human savant. Sorry but I really do not want to ready 3800 post so let’s just say he is late. If it will not work I can think more. The kid from Mercury Rising is about what I want to play.

As far as stat block goes, just have a basic concept of your ability scores (we use the handwaving point buy system), know your attack bonus, saves, AC, maybe a few key skills if you like. And watch your power level. Your concept sounds like it might be a bit weak as is. I don't want you to not have fun because you handicapped yourself too much.
You don't have to write me a book on backstory. Give me a synopsis and maybe a few key things that I can use to draw your character into the story. You can feel free to relate details (or not) as the story progresses.
Also:
Spoiler:
I'm not opposed to the concept, but as a personal favor I'm gonna have to ask you to tread lightly with this one. As the parent of an autistic child that is some emotionally charged territory for me. If done right, that is a concept that I can really respect and appreciate. Heck, that's one of the things I really love about the tv show Bones. It does an amazing job of showing an autistic person struggling to relate to the world around them without making it something to be pitied or being preachy. But if the character you have in mind is more of a caricature, I am not the person to do that around. Figured it was better to just be up-front and tell you that now.

To give you an idea of what she means by this, here is a list of current characters that I made just yesterday.
EDIT: I did not make all the characters yesterday, just the list. As you can see all of them are pretty crazy.
EDIT 2: Not all of these characters are mine, and those that are aren't always active.

Let's look at a list of characters(whose player's have posted recently and aren't leaving).
1. Krays(a gestalted Sorcerer/Oracle of Death. Is Death's "minion")
2. Ruji(actual strength unknown, has the illusionary of a half-fiendish dire tiger)
3. Vakkler(a crazed kobold who uses crossbows, siege weaponry, and oozes)
4. Aananada Sunwake(a were-dragon, capable martial artist, and more)
5. The Sunwake Trio(all were-dragons. One's a time-traveling agent for Krons, one is a reality warper prone to pranks, and the other is so emotionally unstable that his feelings amplify his psychic abilities)
6. Headmaster Ryo(A High Seer, one of the strongest magical/psychic people in Agartha, and a Cardcaster)
7. Lysander Sandwalker(A Hunter that doesn't seem to care about Ephebe as long as she and the rest of her family stays away from his cousins)
8. Tamrin Sunwake(Arcane Gunslinger extraordinaire, ex-leader of a resistance group that is trying to over a Universal Empirerun by Dragons)
9. Feiri(a firebird that used to live in the sun. Also an evoker.)
10. Fei(monk from another realm, turns kinetic energy into a deadly weapon which he has no control over)
11. Kamenwati(a half-fiend that has training as an assassin, a stormborn sorcerer, and part of a popular band)
12. Ryo's Children(A color mage and his younger siblings, which are fraternal twins that seems to be able to find anything no matter how well it's hidden. Protected fiercely by Ryo and Lysander)
13. Keaton Bloodfang(a vampire that no longer drinks blood)
14. Meantioned but not seen yet: Adsila(a plant mage, possible the strongest in Agartha), Ormarr(a half-orc with more than his share of snake-based magic)
Yes, this is definitely the place to try out those crazy character concepts that wouldn't work anywhere else. :)
There are a few more characters that aren't on that list, but they are the ones who are on hiatus or are only posting occasionally.
Two gargoyles sat at the bar, talking as they attempted to drown their sorrows in copious amounts of ale.
"Disgraceful, that's what it is, Bert," the first gargoyle opined mournfully.
"Got that right, 'Arry," said the second one. "Time was folks was honored to get an invite to be attending the Avalon Academy. Ask a body in they would, maybe even give ye a bite to eat or suchlike while they asked all their bloody questions."
"Yer, and now ye ain't barely able t' get the words out afore they slam the door in yer face. If I ever get my hands on the fellows what's been spreading these rumors about it being dangerous there, well..."
Just tell me if you think this will work or if you want me to change anything.
Char Info:
True Name: Unknown
Given Name: Tom
Class: Technically Summoner
Race: Assumedly Human
Alignment: Neutral
Age: ??
Height: 4’4’’
Weight: 77lb
Description:
Tom looks like a basic young boy. He has common slacks and a light blue tunic. He has vivid green eyes and a wide happy smile on his face. He has no shoes but his feet seem to look rugged.
Personality:
Tom is extremely inquisitive, but also seemingly lost. Since the point in time when he was first spotted he has not said a single word to anyone. He does seem to speak, but the word are not in any known language, nor consistent. He really does not pay all that much attention to his surroundings, which really causes issues due to the fact he reacts somewhat aggressive to fear.
Tom has an innate ability to create small living creatures seemingly at will. This ability most includes very small things like butterflies, spiders, or other bugs. Aside from the bugs he also seems to really like colorful fish and flowers.
He really does not have any desire to follow the standard structure of society. Due to the fact he can substance himself with food, water, and shelter the traditional structure of society is irrelevant. If given simply motivation he will follow others due to his inquisitive tendencies. Interesting creatures, people, or things tend to make him happy.
Back-story:
Tom was found walking down the middle of the road about 6 months ago. Before that time he had never been seen.
A few different vastly intelligent creatures have spent some time attempting to understand what Tom really is, but no one is really sure. The current competing options range from sentient life force, to lost construct. Everyone has concluded he looks like a young boy, but he most certainly is not one.
The power that be decided to send Tom to the Avalon Academy
Well I find this interesting I would need levels at least, I dont like being all powerful or having a slanted advantage. Kinda takes away from the point to me. Characters need a goal/purpose and gaining levels, money, inflence, etc etc is the means and so the adventure. I like being able to play pretty much anything but if their is nothing at the end or even the illusion of an end then just does not seem fun. How can characters evolve or even grow with out the real threat of failure at least if not death.
But then again I may not know what I am talking about so if you can clear this up for me then please do.
Just tell me if you think this will work or if you want me to change anything.
** spoiler omitted **
It sounds like a solid concept, but I have two concerns.
The first one I've already mentioned is power level. Now, I will say this, if you start and then discover that you're way too weak, you can always have your characters powers evolve as he gains more control over them, bringing in more powerful abilities.
The second is how is this kid going to relate to or even notice the other students? He doesn't have to be socially skilled, but I'd hate for the plot to always be passing him by. What are his points of interest? His obsession if you will. There's usually something.

There is threat of danger/failure/occasionally even death. But the goal/purpose is generally more story driven rather than levels, money, etc. Abilities can and do develop over time, and as DB3 said, that's the real purpose of the school. To help the students gain control of and develop their powers. I'd suggest maybe reading the first page or two of the thread to get a feel for how things play out. There are definitely rivalries, enemies to defeat, long-term goals and so on. And trust me, while the characters are powerful, there are plenty of things out there that are more powerful than they are.
This would be the situation when he spontaneous summons everything in his power to stay safe. He can do more than just play with butterflies.
TWO: Get into the game
Interesting creatures, people, or things tend to make him happy.
I assume I will find something about the other players that will fall into this category. After I get him going, and get a better idea of the other players I will hook him into the plot.
He is more or less the embodied sprite of a forest.
Okay, cool, that gives me something to work with.
When you say that he is interested in life do you mean that he likes to observe other creatures' behavior? or more like biological processes? outward appearances? It sounds like he and EJ, the recently 'born' intelligent ooze, might have some interesting interaction should their paths ever cross. :)
When you say that he is interested in life do you mean that he likes to observe other creatures' behavior? or more like biological processes? outward appearances?
At this time he does not understand what he is, but he likes to create life, and down the road the stuff he calls forth will start lasting longer and longer until it is permanent.
In time he will understand what he is and more than likely start a new forest. When he starts a new forest he will no longer exist as a humanoid.
Here are a few questions of reflection?
What are the emotions of a tree when the morning sun comes over the horizon?
What is the first thing a seedling would say when it eclipses the crust of the earth?
Why does a duckling or other bird work so hard to free itself of the shell?
Does a spring rain drop speak with the plants as it falls to the earth?
Does a seed try to find the best soil?
Does my house plant get upset when I turn it away from the window?
So would I be able to make a character with some interesting Templates?
I'll need to think about it, but Ive always got some interesting ideas for that or maybe just an interesting personality to play. Halfling wizard (maybe SUmmoner) with a napoleon complex comes to mind.
Edit: Halfling wizard with a napoleon complex who was cursed with a permanent reduce person effect. lol!

I GOT IT! Permanently reduced halfling with a Napoleon complex who is a master summoner. He can't kick your a$$, but he can summon something to do the job for him. LOL Maybe with a template or two.
Both of you guys can head over to the discussion thread if you like to iron out details. As you can tell we get a bit quiet on the weekends, but now it's Monday and things are back in full swing. :)

Hey, out of curiosity, are you still planning on joining the game? If you are just let me know. Thanks.
Feel free to hop on over to the discussion thread to iron out details, ask questions, and figure out how you want to make your entrance if you would like to join the game. There's a link a couple of posts up. You'll need to give her a couple more levels, but don't see any other immediate problems. The anti-dragon sentiments in Agartha don't extend to the miniature variety.
Are there gods and goddesses in this world. I've an idea for a centaur cleric of Shelyn or her counterpart. :)
Yes there are. Any that you like. Thus far most of the gods that we've used are a bit more well, made up on the spot, to be honest, but that doesn't mean you can't worship a more established deity. It sounds like a good concept. Are you thinking you'd like to be a student or a teacher?
Please do not be intimidated by the wall of text near the end there. One of the other players has a cool but very complicated concept, and we're still working some of the bugs out. Sometimes when we have to just make up rules to fit a concept they don't work exactly right the first time and have to be adjusted a bit first.
Also, I'm going to be working on a quick primer of everything you need to know about Agartha this weekend, so hopefully that will make it easier for newbies to catch up and figure out what's going on.

SPECIAL ABILITIES
=================================================
Bloodline Arcana Whenever you cast a spell of the compulsion subschool, increase the spell's DC by +2.
Cantrips You learn a number of cantrips, or 0-level spells. These spells are cast like any other spells, but they do not consume any slots and may be used again.
Dragon Traits (Ex) Dragons have Immunity to magic sleep effects and paralysis effects. Dragons breathe, eat, and sleep.
Fey Bloodline The capricious nature of the fey runs in your family due to some intermingling of fey blood or magic. This tends to make you more emotional than most, prone to bouts of extreme joy and rage.
Fey Magic (Su) You may reroll any caster level check made to overcome spell resistance. You must decide to use this ability before the results are revealed. You must take the second result, even if it is worse. You can use this ability at will.
Fleeting Glance (Su) You can turn invisible for 15 rounds per day. This ability functions as greater invisibility. These rounds need not be consecutive.
Immunity to Magical Sleep (Ex) You are never subject to magic sleep effects.
Immunity to Paralysis (Ex) You can never be paralyzed.
Laughing Touch (Su) You can cause a creature to burst out laughing for 1 round as a melee touch attack. A laughing creature can only take a move action and can defend itself normally. Once a creature has been affected by laughing touch, it is immune to its effects for 1 day. You can use this ability 7 times a day.
Poison (Ex) Sting-injury; save Fort DC 14; frequency 1/minute for 10 minutes; effect sleep for 1 minute; cure 1 save.
Telepathy (Su) You can mentally communicate with any other creature within 60 feet that has a language. It is possible to address multiple creatures at once telepathically, although maintaining a telepathic conversation with more than one creature at a time is just as difficult as simultaneously speaking and listening to multiple people at the same time.
Woodland Stride (Ex) You can move through any sort of undergrowth (such as natural thorns, briars, overgrown areas, and similar terrain) at your normal speed and without taking damage or suffering any other impairment. Thorns, briars, and overgrown areas that have been magically manipulated to impede motion, however, still affect you.
Hey, out of curiosity, are you still planning on joining the game? If you are just let me know. Thanks.
Sorry, been out of touch lately. Unfortunately no. I've got too many school obligations. Though I still love the character concept. Feel free to steal it.
