? Offended at his love of Mass Effect? XD
Shadows of Sand GM |
Hahahaha. I love them both so I'll just abstain here.
Amari Al'Fahd |
@Ashivla&Lo'Laan: Haha just had time to read up your part of the plot again and it was awesome.
Well played!
@Drakar: that's a bold move, but it could be a big payoff, if it works out in our favour. Nothings better than an insider for what we are planing.
@All: I hope I do not ruin everything, but cold-blood murder is a bit much for Amari at the moment, the words of his teacher still ringing in his ears...
Drakar Ironfist |
@Amari: I am also in favor of not-murder. NG is an unusual alignment for me to be, and I suppose I should give it a good run for it's money.
Also, it would appear that I'm totally monologing
Lo'Laan Jin |
@Amari: That's fine, just don't make a habit of saying one thing and doing another or it'll result in some serious trust issues in the future.
@Drakar: Do you have sharks with lazerbeams on their head?
Amari Al'Fahd |
That was quick.
@All: Maybe, we have to attack this very night.
If they really are that careful, the vanishing of one of their group will not go unnoticed...
Shadows of Sand GM |
150 xp to everyone for that fight. I'm putting it up above.
Shadows of Sand GM |
When I pick up on some sort of consensus for how to attack, I'll push us to that scene.
Amari Al'Fahd |
My idea:
- Ashivla and Amari make another trip to the rooftop, disabling the lock, so no one can easily escape that way
- Once that is dealt with, we go in through the tunnel together catching them by surprise and killing everyone
- Special attention must be taken to prevent the leader from using his teleport-scroll
... Options:
--> if we manage to sneak in, we could steal it from him before the fight
--> kill him fast enough so he cannot use it
--> destroy the scroll
--> keep him CCed so he cannot use it

I agree with this line of attack. First we should get Drakar some healing at a local temple though. We can use the money from the Crimson Caravan to search for a wand of CLW with half charges or so (or if anyone has an extra 250 lying around, we could get one with full charges). Or we can simply pay for spellcasting services.

Sounds good to me.

Ashivla's plan leading up to tonight is to snap the thief's neck, tie both corpses up so that they can be lowered from the window. Then we "borrow" a cart or something to wheel them out of the town under cover of night with a cloth draped over them and other foodstuffs or merchant wares (dodging the guards). Then we dump them in the desert away from any major trade roads, say a prayer to the Dawnflower for them. Then we enact Amari's plan above in attacking the smugglers.
Drakar Ironfist |
Whoo! A combat I get to participate in! :P
And a grapple to boot:
Step 1: move to opponent
Step 2: Initiate Grapple
Step 3: ????
Step 4: there are only 3 people on earth that know what happens after a grapple is started
Also, not to bury the lede, but I'm on the road, so my posting schedule will be a little erratic, but I think I can check in each 24 hrs or so.
Shadows of Sand GM |
Thanks! That means a lot. I'm quite new to the mapping portion. I use inkarnate for some basic things and then just google images for others and slap them together in powerpoint. Still trying to improve. When I started, I put my maps on google docs instead of slides :P. That was gross.
Shadows of Sand GM |
That failed concentration check was really nice for you guys there. Way to go, Amari.
I just gave you all 200 xp for the two guards you took out. I was pretty sure I didn't give you anything for those yet. There will be significant chunks of XP going around if/when you guys survive this. Both from the enemies defeated and the mission completion bonus (up to 750 xp each if the mission is completed perfectly). Might hit level 2 at the end of this.
Shadows of Sand GM |
I gave you the 200 xp for killing Aroc too, just based on his CR. It will also contribute to the bonus XP for mission completion.
Not that mission one is over yet but, looking toward mission 2, I'm going to have to select Deft Maneuvers or Planetouched moving forward. On your part, think about the following if DM is selected (since we'll be jumping into mission 2 basically immediately in that case): Do you want to invite one or more players from Planetouched to join given the loss of Basheer? Here is the link to their gameplay. Let me know here or in PM if that is the case.
Ashivla al-Feraz |
If we were to pilfer someone from Planetouched, I'd be inclined toward Zatinya first. Both the character and the player's posting style/frequency would mesh well with the group.
Shadows of Sand GM |
My thought as well. But you guys will have to survive a butt-load of fighters at your level and some bad rolls first! XD
Shadows of Sand GM |
100 xp per level 1 foe defeated. 2000 bonus xp for the party for defeating all smugglers without losing a party member. 100 bonus xp to Lo'Laan for making sure you didn't lose a party member. Most are level 2 now. You can check the XP tracker if you wish. Congrats!
In addition, I'm going to move forward with this table and invite Zaza to join us once Planetouched is finished up with mission 1. PT has been a lot of fun too but I had to pick one.
There are a few loose ends to wrap up here (such as loot!) then you guys will want to return to your handler to let them know you've completed the mission (though your handler will probably have independent confirmation of that already). Then, you will have three options for your next mission. We'll RP your interaction with the handler but I wanted to start hearing you discuss your preferences so I can prepare as effectively as possible.
Option 1 is essentially a dungeon crawl in which you need to reach an artifact before a Taldan team does. Heavy on combat and exploration. Light on social.
Option 2 is to investigate a Chelish diplomat suspected of feeding information to Taldor. Heavy on social and potentially exploration. Light on combat.
Option 3 is to hunt down a Taldan team of spies suspected to be hiding out in the desert. Heavy on exploration and moderate amounts of combat and social.
There are multiple Shadows teams so teams sometimes get some freedom in which mission they pursue next. Given choices made by other teams, these options are available to you. In some cases, timing will mean that two missions are mutually exclusive unless you have teleportation.
Shadows of Sand GM |
I'll invite her shortly. Her team is at the climax of their mission right now. It's do or die time for them in this round or the next of combat.
Lo'Laan Jin |

This^
Although just glancing at the sheet they have both agile and deft manuvers note sure how that happened.
---
Adventure choice in order of preference, 3/1/2
Shadows of Sand GM |
I'm not 100% sure yet but I think Drakar may be retiring. Amari, what's your preferecence mission-wise? Order of preferences like Lo'Laan is helpful.
Shadows of Sand GM |
Zatinya (aka Zaza) will be joining us here shortly. I told her to weigh in on the vote for the next mission as well.
Amari Al'Fahd |
Sorry I have a sleep over guest over a long weekend so my post timehas gone...
Let's see, I think ...
3, 1, 2
Also, awesome that me made it without loss and ...
WEEEH, level up! :-)
Zatinya |
Hi folks, our illustrious GM invited me to join you here. Thank you all very much for agreeing to take me on!
While I'm tempted to take Option 2, I think that might put a disproportionate weight on my character to the detriment of the team. Option 3 seems to have the most balanced description, so let's give that a try.
I understand I'll also be hitting Level 2. I'll be beefing up the social skills a bit . . . will need to figure that out. I don't know if you guys think Stealth Synergy might be better than Deft Maneuvers for Zaza? She's using a whip anyway, so normally doesn't trigger AOOs. So it's mostly for the +2 bonus, and the ability to feint as a move action (for example, she might feint and then trip/disarm to make it easier to pull off).
Drakar Ironfist |
Hey all,
GM's right, I'm going to have to step out. Work is busy, and not getting less so in the foreseeable future. It's been good, and I've enjoyed playing.
Side note, I'm in Indiana, so if anybody is headed to GenCon, and needs a place to crash, let me know.

Agile Maneuvers comes free with the Feat Tax (or anti-Feat Tax) rules if one is wielding a finesse weapon. I know there are other free feats, too, but I just listed the ones Zatinya might actually use.

Hello Zaza, and belated welcome! I think it's up to you. Amari and Ashivla have used stealth synergy to great effect so far, and adding a third stealth roll can only help, but Deft Maneuvers is also a great feat to have.
Amari Al'Fahd |
Just dropping that I missed a skill point during creation (the human bonus skill point).
I rarely play human (why do, if you can be a dwarf or humanoid snake instead?!) so that one slipped through.
Will correct this during the level up process.

How much time do we have before our next mission?
Would it be enough to retrain a feat (5 days)?
I'd guess that there is a shadow available that has the Improved Initiative feat and that would train me, since that is not an esoteric feat, yes?
Maybe even for free or reduced price (raw it would cost me 100g and I probably would not do that and go Dodge instead).
Shadows of Sand GM |
Time is a valuable resource. You get certain bonuses from the Shadows to incentivize you for completing more missions in a given month. That said, downtime is also a valuable resource. In this case, I don't think you'll have 5 days at base to retrain.
Amari Al'Fahd |
Fine. Maybe I'll go with Combat Reflexes instead.
It will be a long-term investment and will come only with level 4 (where I do no longer suffer AoOs from using my bow while threatened and will join the frontline to dish out kicks against prone targets) and get devastating at level 9 (at which point I can AoO with my bow).
Other option would be the rather boring dodge skill raising my AC by one.
@Team: Thoughts?
@Skills: Since I get the human bonus skill point every level, I can level heal as well, supplying us with non-magical heal after all.
Amari Al'Fahd |
Did my level up, just not decided which bonus skill to take.
The list is:
- Combat Reflexes (long-time investment, likely #1)
- Deflect Arrows (too situational)
- Dodge (+1 AC, slightly better with feat tax rules, my #2)
- Far Shot (ranges over 110ft rarely comes into play)
- Point-Blank Shot (got that one already)
- Precise Shot (got it too)
- Rapid Shot (doesn't work with Flurry, so no real reason to get it)
@GM: I used my favoured class bonus on hp rather than for a skill point this level.
