you don't think falling counts as leaving a threatened square? (the one diagonal above someone?)
Shadows of Sand GM
"An enemy that takes certain actions while in a threatened square provokes an attack of opportunity from you."
Forced movement generally doesn't provoke an attack of opportunity (unless stated otherwise), I think because it isn't an action. The grick lets go, which certainly doesn't provoke, then gravity moves him. He takes no action, not even a free action, to move down to the ground.
I wish that were a little clearer in the rules but I think that is correct.

Whoops, posted as Bob above.
So you are considering gravity to be a forced action. But the act of releasing is the cause behind the cause of gravity, which isn't intentional. :)
I'm just considering it for my own games. I would probably rule that falling provokes if done on purpose. (of course the target needs to know that someone is falling next to them)
Shadows of Sand GM
You can rule thus. I think some other people would too.
The reason my ruling is thus is because the gravity is forced movement. The releasing is a free action that doesn't provoke and wasn't even done in a threatened square.
It'd be a bit different if someone jumped forward into a pit, for example, because they're using some of their movement through a threatened square.

I'm gonna (hopefully) get to meet my firstborn tomorrow (or the day after if things take particularly long)...
So I'll be gone for a couple of days I guess, until things are semi-normal again.

Please bot me when necessary.
Shadows of Sand GM
Wow! Congrats, Amari! No rush. Do what you need to do!
Shadows of Sand GM
This is the climactic battle so I'm willing to wait for Zaza to be ready to resume posting. Or I'll bot an action she requests if she gets a chance to check.
Zatinya
Hi everyone, I think I spoke too soon. My son is sick (hand foot mouth, not scary but very burdensome), and work is still intense, so it's been a struggle to do anything. Another week and I can hopefully turn the corner, but I don't want to overpromise. So sorry.
GM Shadows--I think you'd better just bot me. Sorry. :(
Shadows of Sand GM
Ok I was reaching that conclusion, Zaza. Thanks for piping up. Will do as soon as I get a chance.

Maybe this is metagaming, but would the party if possible consider pulling back until I wake up. It really really sucks that I could simply miss the entire last battle because of bad roll. How unsatisfying.
Shadows of Sand GM
If someone has remove poison, delay poison, self-perfection variant channel, etc, they can wake Jackdaw up.
We can say there's a 50% chance Agaban prepped delay poison in one of his 2nd level slots, as well. Jackdaw can try for that 51+ roll here in discussion if he likes.
Shadows of Sand GM
Still here. I just don't want to bot a large section of the party in the final battle of the campaign.

well I'm here. Should people sound off if they are ready to play?
Shadows of Sand GM
I think it's still Zaza, who has major life stuff, that we're waiting on. I'll just have to bot her again later today and will start botting her faster.
Zatinya
Hi everyone. Work is still a mess and got worse when someone gave notice such that I'm taking over a big chunk of the work. Right now, I need to take a break from PbP until I can recover, and I don't know exactly how long that'll be (maybe a month, maybe less, maybe more)? I've done PbP reliably for years now and intend to return, but I also don't want a character botted indefinitely which is a burden on any game. So I'm fine with whatever is decided about my character--whether to continue botting her, setting her aside momentarily, or even doing something more permanent.
Really sorry, and I'll check in again when I can.
Shadows of Sand GM
Ok Z. Thanks for the clarification. I'll bot you along.

Well our GM did say this is the final battle here; if you could just spare 2 minutes every other day, we will get this wrapped up and you can retire permanently without feeling guilty about quitting.
Amari Al'Fahd
Interesting dilemma.
One rule question though:
Coup does provoke and the drow should be within threat range of Amari.
You can substitute any combat maneuver for an attack, so afaik I could attempt to grapple the drow if he attempts to pull it through?
Would a grapple prevent the coup?
Not saying this is a go to option, but maybe it could be a safety net, should everything else fail...
Shadows of Sand GM
The drow 5 ft stepped out of Amari's reach so no, he doesn't provoke from you. You can try to rush toward him but you're pretty sure that would trigger his readied action.
Amari Al'Fahd
Just letting you know that I wasn't feeling well today (headache and drowsiness) but I think it was only due to lack of sleep and a bad choice of food - feeling better now.
Still struggling to be creative though...
So, sorry if I keep you waiting.
Shadows of Sand GM
Sorry, Amari. I guess I'm destined to kill your PCs. But this was a noble death and a sacrifice Amari chose. I'll update more later. We'll see if you are avenged.
