Chaos is definitely fun, and probably the frontrunner. Battle has some nice synergy with my conjured shadow weapon - I could kick some butt. Illusion has great flavour, and a mirror image type spell that lasts for hours. Fire and Destruction speak for themselves! But Chaos, Battle, and Illusion all fit pretty well with Brinda as she's developing as a character: Chaos because she's pretty all over the place; Battle, as she's getting pretty fired up about stuff; and Illusion for that tricksy angle that fits really well with both Enchantment and Shadow.
I'll decide in the next 24 hours. I'd completely forgotten we level up after every adventure!

I chose the Battle tradition in the end. It's just really good, and if I have my shadow blade and presence on my Battle spells will make me a good combatant in boss battles. Also picked Question, which is kind of a one-shot zone of truth.

It looks like no one has kept up with the inventory of anything the group has gained.
Sköllji seems to have quite a bit of copper pennies; likely from his own share from back when you defeated the bandits at Fletcher's Rest. But no one else has kept up with their own equipment. Some PCs don't even have an equipment section at all.
I guess all that gold, silver, and copper, plus the magical items and the magical incantations all went with Cyrenik and TAS when they went back to Fletcher's Rest after departing.
You have what you have. If it hasn't been added to your character sheet by now, then it got left behind.

Ouch! Harsh but fair - I'm terrible at keeping inventory. Going to miss that magical book and all those arcane goodies though! Also the decent clothes and dagger - back to rags and sling :)

Just a heads up folks, inside the last two weeks till my thesis is due, so stuff's a bit crazy on my end till that's all done. I'll do my best to keep up, but feel free to bot me at any point!

I'm good with that swap.
As far as where to take him - hmmm... He's been hunting his father for some time.
Avowed seems fitting - as a servant of the Fey world, you've successfully completed a mission which protects the Fey and the natural world.
You could become corrupt from the blade and take something along those lines, such as berzerker or Witch.
You could hone your weapons use and become a swashbuckler or assassin or fights.
You could have the meloncholy over the death of your father cause an awakening within you and go psychic or shaman or some other magic path.
And if you're at a complete and utter loss for what to do, you could retire him and make a new PC.

My thoughts on how to advance CW:
Mystic: Unarmed wander fighting evil in the world, opting to turn himself into a living weapon as opposed to the weapons made from death that his father used.
Now that I type that out I think that's what I will go with

Hey folks, sorry for the extended absence, just dropping by to say that while I'm currently in an academic hell of my own making, the damn thing is due Monday, so boom or bust I'll be fully back on board then. Apologies again.
Durnik Jonson |
Posting this to all my games, so sorry if you see it multiple times:
This week both my office and I personally are going to be moving. It's been crazy busy and I am not going to be able to post until Monday at the earliest. Please bot me if I am in your game, and if you are in a game I am running, I will get a post up as soon as possible.
Thank you for your patience.

Alright, paper submitted, I'm back! Just getting caught up on all my games now, looks like we're making level 3 choices, so I'll read up on the 30-odd posts I'm behind, level up, and be back amongst it :)
Thanks for not dumping me from the game!

So bookrat, re: levelling up, I'm a bit torn between the warlock and the wizard at the moment. The idea of stealing magic is pretty cool, but so is the wizard's grimoire. Any advice or suggestions from you (or anyone else)?
Durnik Jonson |
Okay, I've started writing up my GM spoilery thing, but it kinda got...long. I'm going to give it a once over and then slim it down to something more manageable.
As far as levelling goes, I am also taking Fighter (since none of the other Expert Paths really fit Durnik).
That gives me:
+1 str and will
+5 health to 23
Learning Trollish as a language
Fighter Talent: keeping it simple by taking defensive expertise, which increases my defense by 1.

Heads up Durnik - the fighter class has been improved. Please use this instead:
Characteristics Health +5
Languages and Professions You speak another language or add a profession to your list of professions.
Fight with Anything If you attack with a weapon or improvised weapon whose damage die is less than 1d6, you treat the damage die as 1d6. In addition, when you attack with a weapon or improvised weapon, you make the attack roll with 1 boon. Finally, your Strength counts as 2 higher for the purpose of meeting armor and weapon requirements.
Fighter Talent Choose one fighter talent from the ones described below.
Fighter Talents
•Fight with Two Weapons. When you attack with two weapons, you reduce the number of banes from the attack by 2.
•Haft Attack. When you attack with a polearm or a staff, you can use a triggered action to attack with the other end of the weapon. Make the attack roll with 1 bane and the attack deals 1d6 damage.
•Powerful Attack. When you attack with a heavy weapon, you can make the attack roll with 1 bane to deal 2d6 extra damage.
•Precise Attack. When you attack with a swift weapon, you can make the attack roll against the target’s Agility instead of its Defense.
•Shield Bash. When you get a success on an attack roll made using a shield, you bash the target and make attack rolls against the same target with 2 boons until the end of the next round.
•Swift Reload. You can use a triggered action on your turn to reload a weapon that has the reload property.
•Swift Shot. When you make an attack with a ranged weapon that does not have a reload property, you can use a triggered action to attack with the same weapon. You make the second attack roll with 1 bane.
Alternatively, here's are some other class options which may suit you:
Characteristics. Health +5
Languages and Professions. You speak another language, learn to read and write a language you know how to speak, or add an academic profession to your list of professions.
Armor Specialization. While wearing medium or heavy armor, you gain a +1 bonus to Defense.
Devastating Charge. When you charge, your attack deals 1d6 extra damage or 2d6 extra damage if you are riding another creature.
Warding Shield. If you are armed with a shield when a creature attacks another creature within your reach, you can use a triggered action to impose 1 bane on the triggering creature’s attack roll.
A note: Knights typically gain such status through a Lord or Lady. The next adventure is bring given to you by a Lord, and we can easily write that into the story.
Characteristics. Health +6
Powerful Fists. Your weapon attacks using unarmed strikes deal 1d6 extra damage. In addition, when you attack a target that’s smaller than you with an unarmed strike or a grab, you make the attack roll with 1 boon.
Unstoppable. If you are immobilized or slowed, you can use an action, or a triggered action on your turn, to remove the affliction.
Note: This class is typically for larger races, but it could still work rather well.

If it was the Bonesmith's, you could say he dropped it on the train somewhere as he was fleeing from you.
Re: class choice. Just last night I was reviewing those two classes, and I was equally torn.
I also had a cool idea to play a warrior who picked up warlock only for the purpose of stealing spells, as a way to make a "non-magical" warrior who was "immune to magic," using the steal spell ability to make the enemy spell just disappear.
For Brinda, I'd probably go wizard. It seems to fit her better, especially with how much time she's spent to studying books.
bookrat |
Please note that many of the expert classes have been altered in one of two new books: Paths of Power and Paths of Power. These cover magical and martial classes in the core book.
Additionally, the Warrior and Rogue novice paths are re-examined in Natural Born Scoundrels and Bred for Battle.
You can find the books here. However, before purchasing, please see the next post.
Characteristics. Increase your Health by 2 and your Power by 1.
Languages and Professions. You can speak another language or add another area of scholarship.
Magic. You either discover a new tradition or learn one spell from a tradition you have already discovered.
Grimoire. You acquire a tome filled with magical lore. The tome grants 1 boon on Intellect challenge rolls you make to recall information about magic. In addition, the tome also contains spells you have discovered during your travels. Your Grimoire holds three spells of a rank you can cast. The spells can belong to any tradition, even a tradition you have not yet discovered. For the purpose of gaining Corruption from learning certain spells, choosing a spell to include in your Grimoire counts as learning it. Finally, if you learn a spell already in your Grimoire, you can add another spell to your Grimoire of a rank you can learn and cast. You can create additional Grimoires to hold more spells or to replace a Grimoire you have lost. To create a Grimoire, you must spend 48 hours creating a book using exotic materials worth 5 gc. When you complete your work, you can inscribe any three spells of a rank you can cast inside the book.
Grimoire Casting. If you are holding a Grimoire, you can cast a spell it contains by expending the casting of a spell you have learned of the same or higher rank.
Characteristics. Increase your Health by 3 and your Power by 1.
Magic. You either discover a new tradition or learn one spell from a tradition you have already discovered. In addition, you learn the spellbound weapon spell, described below.
Spellbound Weapon (Rank 0)
You touch one weapon you can reach and imbue it with magical power that lasts for 4 hours. Until the spell ends, you gain the following benefits with the target weapon.
• The weapon counts as your implement.
• The weapon grants you 1 boon on attack rolls you make with it.
• If the weapon is within 1 mile of you, you can use an action to teleport it to your hand or to your feet if your hands are full.
• You can use an action to touch the target weapon and remove all damage from it, even if the weapon is destroyed, provided you have at least a fragment of it.
Sacrifice. You can use a triggered action to expend a casting of this spell. Until the end of the round, your attacks with the weapon deal extra damage equal to your Power.
