Game Master Rev Rosey

WoTC's Scepter Tower of Spellguard (whatever did you expect?)
It lead to a series of spinoffs.

Wolf 4 drops dead to the ground. Wolf 1 hurls itself at Cronin and tries to pull him to the ground.

The trying to pull to the ground is just flavour text. The attack however is a hit. Wolf 1 moves to D8

Wolf 1 attack on Cronin (1d20 7=22, 1d6 2=8). 8hp damage to Cronin. Thanks for the clarification on the filth fever situation.

From behind door, shouts are heard. You can expect more company shortly.

Cronin is up
Caine

M Goliath Cleric 14 / Storm Speaker / Druid

At the wolf's bite, Cronin responds with a deep growl and startst to change. His posture becomes a little closer to horizontal, his legs get a little longer, his jaw lengthens. Cronin makes a break for the hole with great speed. Meanwhile, Kelemvor's grace closes the wounds left by the Darano.

Razorclaw Shifting (+2 to speed, +1 to AC and Ref). Double move to P10, drawing OA. Save (1d20 5=18)

In case the wolf is still alive

Cronin's transformation startles wolf 1, but doesn't prevent it from landing a passing bite on the shifter as he races past.

Caine takes advantage of the distraction to land a substantial blow, the wolf reels and clearly can't take much more, but it is still standing.

Wolf 1 OA on Cronin (1d20 7=18, 1d6 2=6)

MAP for new round

Fairwind is up
Brujo
Perigia
Leo

The noises behind the door continue. Snaggletooth follows Cronin towards the hole in the ground.

F Half-elf Ranger 4 (multiclass - Rogue)

Move to E7.
basic attack (1d20+7=18)
basic damage (1d8+3=10)

Fairwind darts across the field once more to the site of battle, and lunges with her longsword.

Against all likelihood, the last wolf survives Fairwind's ferocious onslaught.

Brujo is up
Perigia

"Heel", Brujo looks sadly as the frozen blade comes crashing into the wolf.

Booming blade 1d20+8=17; Damage url=http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1830737/ ]1d8+5=9 cold damage[/url], if the target is adjacent to you at the start of its turn and moves away, it takes 1d6+3=5 thunder damage.

Out of combat

Wolf 1 falls at last. Even Brujo realises that unpleasant butchery as this was, you may well have done them a favour. The beasts were starving, gaunt shadows, attacking out of instinct.

Snaggletooth gestures frantically. "More Daranos will be coming. Big family."

258XP each for taking down Kalmo and the wolves. Additional 100 XP for role play so far. Taking you to 2304. Level up time folks. Choose your upgrades and they will come into effect after you have taken your next extended rest.

"We better head on then, anyone need healing?" leo asks as he heads for the hole.

Extra hp and an extra encounter power unless I missed something

M Goliath Cleric 14 / Storm Speaker / Druid

Cronin pauses to offer up a short prayer, and his wounds mostly close. Further, he seems even tougher than before.

Healing word on self (13 1d6=19)

Female Genasi Firesoul Wizard 7

Casting light on the tip of her staff, Perigia points at the hole. "Are we going in or not," she asks.

"Yes."

In case anyone missed it on the discussion thread, extra hp and healing surge values have immediate effect. New powers don't appear until you've had an extended rest.

Urged on by the sounds of the rampart door being pushed open, you lower yourselves one by one into the hole.

Perigia's light shows you a gloomy scene. The room you are in is part of an ancient catacomb. Crumbling vaults line the walls and along the western wall lies an open conduit full of fetid water. It's not deep as far as you can see. In the distant past you would guess that it carried fresh water to the castle. The conduit is spanned by a bridge of more recent date. It's rough, but serviceable.

On the northern wall one of the vaults has collapsed entirely, leaving a pile of bones exposed. There are solid doors on the eastern and western walls. Perigia's light exposes the ceiling too. Here the vaulting is low, with numerous dark shadows. You can hear faint rustling.

For all that this place should have been long abandoned, someone has used it and recently too. Both doors have trails leading to them.

Snaggletooth drops to the grounds and gazes intently. "Creepers went both ways." From above you, you can hear cries of outrage as the Darano clan discover the carnage you have wrought.

MAP of where you are now

M Goliath Cleric 14 / Storm Speaker / Druid

"East!"

Female Genasi Firesoul Wizard 7

"let's try the east door first" Perigia says.

The door is an iron grille, rusted, but serviceable. It should open fairly easily if you're strong enough. Darano voices float down to you.

"They've gone. Do we follow?"

"We do not. We mourn our brother and we wait for their return."

"Suppose they don't come back?"

"The better for us. But I think they will. The catacombs are inhabited."

"Yes Ephram."

Snaggletooth shakes his head. "Stupid halflings. Being wolves has softened their brains. Don't talk about plans so loudly. Sneaky kobolds know this," he adds smugly before casting a worried look at Cronin's wounds.

"You got better? You can heal us again?"

DC20 to get the door open.

Do we get bonuses if more than one of us helps to open it and if so how many can help to do so at any time?

If one of you is hauling at the door, others may help. Up to four of you, which conjures the pretty image of you tug of warring at an iron grille.

Okay I'm game rolled a 9+3 for 12

Leo steps forward to try and haul open the door after a few moments he stops to get his breath back after his face turned red from the exertion.

"Okay i think this is going to take a few of us to open unless someone can say magically open it?" Leo asks taking a few more moments to get his breath back stepping back in case one of the others wants to try.

Well someone had to try, right?

Somewhere out there my old english teacher either spun around in their grave or had a particularly bad nightmare!

M Goliath Cleric 14 / Storm Speaker / Druid

Cronin whispers, "It sounds like we may have time to rest a few minutes before confronting new horrors. I'd find it welcome."

M Goliath Cleric 14 / Storm Speaker / Druid

Rev:

At Cronin's request, you pause for a few moments to recuperate before once more turning your attentions to the door.

Short rest. Encounter powers restored. Please note any healing surges used in your profiles.

I've got one Healing Word left before the rest if anyone needs a boost to their surge value. Otherwise, good to go.

Female Genasi Firesoul Wizard 7

Although strength is not Perigia's strong suit, she will try and help Leo pull the door open. 1d20+1=15 for her check.

Perigia wrote:

Assume thats an aid another action rolled a 15+3 for strength for a total of 18 with Perigia's aid that would make it a total of 20 barring any additional aid from the others. If its treated the other way and Leo's action is the aid action then it would be a total of 17 pending dm's decision of course...

Leo and Perigia try and haul the door open...

Perigia specifically stated she was helping you, so your roll is the base.

Between them, the genasi and the half-elf heave the door open. A fetid passage opens up before you, leading after a few feet around a bend and then to a further set of iron grilles. Through them you can see a chamber evenly dotted with tombs. Unlike the first set of gates, these do not look particularly hard to open.

Are you closing the first gates behind you before going down the corridor?

MAP

You are outside the northern doors. The corridor goes back a further two squares behind you, so you can all fit in, I was just an idiot when I was drawing this map. Tell me what you're all doing.

Leo is at A-7

"Shouldn't we keep this front gate open in case we need to head back through them?" Leo asks the others keeping an eye on the first gate to make sure it doesn't slam shut.

"Yes, but then open the other one, too, so it's not too obvious which way we've gone."

Just to clarify, is the plan here to return to the room you descended into and open the other gate over the bridge (in the western wall) before you do anything about the one immediately in front of you?

That was my suggestion, yes, contingent on people wanting to leave the gate open behind us

And not be locked in there with no means of escape even if they're waiting for us back up there

OK. Are you all going back to do this?

F Half-elf Ranger 4 (multiclass - Rogue)

Fairwind stays behind as pointman.

A8 for Fairwind then?

Is B8 still open?

I'm sorry to bother, but after today my head is abit frazzeled. Could someone tell/catch me up to what's happening. My apologizes.

B8 is available Commander. You shall occupy it.

Brujo - not a problem. You trashed the wolves and headed down the hole into the catacombs/crypt. You need to go through those to get to Spellgard Tower where, amongst other things, you plan to rescue Snaggletooth's chum Kneebiter.

Your genasi companion, Perigia has put some pieces of information together that suggest that the white pillar you found could be part of a scheme to destroy Spellgard. This scheme is masterminded by someone called Thoran who has a lot of dark creepers working for him. It is the creepers who kidnapped Kneebiter.

Once down the hole, you found yourselves in a room with two iron gates. HERE You opened the right-hand gate, went through it and have arrived at a further set of iron gates HERE. Through this you can see a lovely selection of tombs. You have not yet opened the gate into the tomb room.

Your plan at the moment is that some of you return to the first room and open the other set of gates as a diversion in case you are followed by the Darano clan. They were upset because you trashed their wolves and one of their kindred and will be waiting for you if you come out of the hole.

You also levelled up. Level 3 hp and surge values effective immediately, new encounter power does not kick in until you have taken an extended rest.

All of you. At the moment, Cronin and Leo are going to do the diversionary gate opening. Unless I hear otherwise, I'll proceed along those lines. Fairwind is staying put in case anything horrible leaps out at you and it seems that Commander Caine is with her.

Female Genasi Firesoul Wizard 7

Perigia will stay at A7 with Caine and Fairwind.

Brujo - stay with Caine, Fairwind and Perigia or head back to the first room with Cronin and Leo?

"I think I'll head back with the others" Brujo moves off with Leo and Cronin. "Never no what trouble will come their way"

Brujo wrote:

"Too true, mind yourselves there might be undead in there and we might need backup if those Darano get it into their heaeds to head after us before we get that other gate open, let alone if there's something waiting for that gate to open as it is," Leo points out.

Brujo, Leo and Cronin

Spoiler:

Please indicate where you are on this MAP.

As you re-enter the room, you can still hear Darano voices from above. They seem to have set a guard over the hole, but are making no attempt to join you in the catacombs. Do you have a light source? Perigia was carrying the communal one.

Caine, Fairwind and Perigia

Spoiler:

You wait patiently for any sounds to inform you of the fate of your comrades.

Male Half Elf Paladin 6th
Rev DM wrote:
Brujo, Leo and Cronin** spoiler omitted **

Under the old system they used to say sometimes magical items especially weapons gave off a light of their own when drawn, is that still the case because if not we might need to light a torch unless one of the others has that ability

Leo moves from the right hand gate they passed through and heads to E-10 unless something prevents him getting any further than a step from the gate they passed through.

I think you'll have to use a sunrod. I accept the notion of magic weapons lighting up, but that sounds like an inconvenient habit for them to have if you're ever trying to ambush someone. Unless it's specifically stated as a property of the magic weapon in question, they don't light up for now.

Leo, Brujo, Cronin

Spoiler:

The disturbed crypt on the north wall contains a worrying number of bones. You can still hear Darano voices above you and they make it hard to concentrate. Leo's advance is unimpeded. Snaggletooth emerges from the corridor behind you. "You need me. A sneaky kobold to find sneaky traps," he explains to Cronin. He seems to have taken Cronin's welfare upon himself.

M Goliath Cleric 14 / Storm Speaker / Druid

Leo, Brujo, Rev:

Spoiler:
G-12. "Snaggletooth -- is there anything to be worried about in this room?" Cronin whispers. The idea of redemption is not foreign to him.

f9 for me.

Brujo goes to his pack and draws a sunrod.

Brujo, Cronin, Leo

Spoiler:

Snaggletooth nods. "Don't touch the bones. Go round them. Be sneaky."

You can reach the eastern gate easily enough and it's easier to open DC15. The light of the sunrod illuminates more stone corridor, but the floor is strewn with rubble. Snaggletooth points at a piece of cloth beneath a pile of rocks.

"More traps." he says proudly. "Stupid creepers didn't have a kobold."

Caine, Fairwind, Perigia

Spoiler:

Snaggletooth scampered after the other group and is with them.

Turns to Fairwind and Perigia, "Let's go."

Caine trudges back up the corridor to where he can see the first room. Cronin, Leo and Brujo are clustered around the kobold as he points something out to them. The Commander is standing at the corner and can see both groups, Pergia and Fairwind to the south and the others in the room to the east of him.
