STAR WARS: DAWN OF DEFIANCE
Episode I
THE TRAITOR’S GAMBIT
It is a dark time in the galaxy. The evil Galactic Empire has spread from the Deep Core to the Outer Rim, and everywhere the Empire’s tyranny can be felt.
Fleeing from the oppression of the Emperor’s minions, agents of Senator Bail Organa have run to a remote space station above Brentaal. Known to be a vocal opponent of the Empire, Organa may be the last hope of freedom in the galaxy.
In the hopes of stopping these dissidents before they can reach the Senator, the Empire has alerted its forces on Sel Zonn Station, where the struggle for liberty rages on, and the first sparks of rebellion have begun to burn. . .
=========================================================================
The Dawn of Defiance campaign opens some months after the rise of the Empire, with the Clone Wars a very recent and vivid memory for most beings in the galaxy. The Empire has begun tightening its grip on star systems throughout the galaxy, and Darth Vader stands at the newly declared Emperor’s right hand, crushing any opposition and hunting down the last remnants of the Jedi Order.
In these short months since the fall of the Republic, many have joined the Empire willingly, including the Core Worlds whose Human nobles stand to benefit a great deal from its tyranny. Similarly, many others have begun rebelling against Imperial oppression, finding themselves driven out of their homes (or worse) and forced to live in a galaxy that tolerates no opposition to the Empire.
I am looking to recruit 3-4 PCs for this game. I have one player already who started this module with me under a different gm earlier in the year.
Character Creation rules:
-4d6, drop the lowest for ability scores (You may do a complete reroll if you are unhappy with your first set. (Keep the best set)
-No Ewoks, races from other sourcebooks are allowed as long as they are appropriate for the time period.
-All classes available
-Max starting credits for your class
-Please roll (and pay) for Weapon licences as per pg 118-119 of the core rules if you want to be able to tote your weapons about on imperial controlled worlds.
-A short backstory showing your characters motivation to fight against the Empire and a reason to be on / heading to Sel Zonn Station would be appreciated.
You may have simply come to the station for the same reason as many to rest, relax, refuel, and prepare for the next leg of your journey OR you might be a criminal escaping justice on Brentaal, a fugitive Jedi on the run from the Empire, legitimate traders or businesspeople passing through, or nobles who have traveled to investigate their financial interests.

So Jedi are ok? I assume we just need to come up with a story of how we survive order 66 and what we are doing to lay low.
forgot to roll:
4d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 2, 3) = 15 13
4d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 2, 2) = 14 12
4d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 4, 6) = 18 15
4d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 5, 3) = 14 13
4d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 5, 6) = 14 13
4d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 5, 1) = 15 14
Poop
4d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 3, 5) = 16 14
4d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 4, 1) = 15 14
4d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 4, 1) = 11 10
4d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 3, 6) = 19 16
4d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 3, 3) = 15 12
4d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 1, 4) = 17 16
Not bad.

Rolling...
4d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 1, 6) = 16 - 15
4d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 3, 5) = 18 - 15
4d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 4, 5) = 17 - 13
4d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 5, 2) = 10 - 9
4d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 1, 3) = 12 - 11
4d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 6, 2) = 11 - 10
Rolling again...
4d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 6, 1) = 15 - 14
4d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 4, 5) = 15 - 13
4d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 2, 4) = 10 - 9

4d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 4, 4) = 17 - 14
4d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 3, 4) = 16 - 13
I would have to go with the second array. Leaning towards Scoundrel.

Background
Syl was commissioned and worked for the Utuua Corp, headed by a wealthy Twi'lek family. While the Empire allows Twi-Lek within it's borders it doesn't like them in positions of any legitimate power and the Corporation was systematically broken down.
No longer required, and given self-ownership after repeated unsuccessful attempts to sell, Syl is at a loss. She was designed to work and enjoyed interactions with customers and her masters.
Her appearance does her no favours with the Empire, and gives her a double dose of predjudice wherever she travels.
Appearance
Syl appears as a stylized robotic female Twi-lek, in a silvery-blue metallic colour. While she cannot pass for a Twi-Lek (except maybe if someone is half-blind, or assumes she's wearing some kind of form-fitting armour) her head-tails are functional and allower her to speak the full range of Lekku.
She currently prefers to hide her nature, wearing voluminous hooded robes, walking carefully to minimise the exagerated protocol droid shuffling gait and peppering her speech with slang and colloquialisms that droids would rarely use.
Persona
Syl considered the Utuua as the closest thing she had to family. The Systematic break-down of their holdings and ties deeply offended Syl, the poor treatment she's recieved among the Imperial's has furthered this resentment, while she's not quite ready to break protocols and fight back directly, she is looking for ways to undermine them or aid thier opponents.
Mostly just gear to do, plus minor adjustments to fit with the party better if she makes the cut.
Designed following the BD-3000 droid as a guideline, though using the custom droid rules (mostly so we don't have to run with the jiggery pokery of having nonheroic levels).
Also I used the 2nd set and ignored the last number rolled (the 10) (droids lack a Constitution score), since I felt too guilty to use the first and ignore the 6. ;-)

@ CampinCarl, No unfortunately Saga Ed is not open content. I'll send you a PM
@ Spinningdice, Droids sure are ok, Also your guilt will be your undoing =D (Though you wound up with pretty good scores anyway.) I really like the character :)
@Warhawk7, welcome! I'll send you a PM.
So we have:
YoricksRequiem, Miraluka Jedi, working on crunch and backstory.
Ashe, Jedi?
Colvin Dashwind, Leaning towards Scoundrel.
Spazmodius, Taking the second set.
Spinningdice, 6Syl Protocol/Luxury Droid Noble.
Warhawk7, Nyla Selanno, Mandolorian Soldier.

My submission including background.
Should we roll the DC's as listed in the book to obtain the licenses or is the payment of the fee sufficient? If a roll is needed...
Blaster Pistol License - Knowledge Bureaucracy 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
Hold Out Blaster License - Deception (procured through Illegal methods) 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20

YoricksRequiem |

YoricksRequiem, Miraluka Jedi, working on crunch and backstory.
Actually, the time period humps what I had in mind, so I'm back to the drawing board. The notion of being a Jedi just puts a target on your back, so I'm now thinking of going with Scout as the first level class and simply being Force Sensitive, gaining Force skills as I go and shooting for the Force Adept prestige class, but also having other usefulness beyond that.
Here's another set of rolls since I didn't roll the second one before. I thought I'd be happy with that, but I found the extreme high and low results to be somewhat limiting.
4d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 6, 6) = 16 = 14
4d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 1, 4) = 16 = 15
4d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 1, 6) = 15 = 14
4d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 6, 1) = 12 = 11
4d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 4, 5) = 15 = 14
I also have a question as to the order of spending things for character creation. If my first level feat is "Force Sensitivity", which gives me Use the Force as a Class Skill, can I then choose Use the Force as one of my Trained skills for Level 1, or is it such that Skills have to be done before Feats?

Loup Blanc |

Would you still be taking applications here, or are you only looking at people who have marked interest already? Gonna roll and hope I can draw something up.
4d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 3, 4) = 12 = 10
4d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 2, 1) = 7 = 6
4d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 6, 2) = 18 = 16
4d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 1, 6) = 15 = 14
4d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 2, 5) = 11 = 9
4d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 1, 4) = 12 = 11
Hmm, definitely thinking a reroll would be good.
4d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 1, 3) = 11 = 10
4d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 3, 5) = 15 = 13
4d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 4, 1) = 10 = 9
4d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 1, 4) = 16 = 15
4d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 3, 6) = 16 = 15
4d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 6, 1) = 15 = 14
Well, nothing as wonderful as I'd hoped for, but better. I'll think about it.

RIZZENMAGNUS |

4d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 2, 6) = 1715
4d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 4, 6) = 1211
4d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 5, 3) = 1110
4d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 6, 6) = 1817
4d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 2, 2) = 87
4d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 5, 1) = 98
2nd roll
4d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 6, 5) = 1915
4d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 6, 3) = 1312
4d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 6, 1) = 1716
4d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 2, 5) = 1412
4d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 1, 3) = 1615
Hmmmm Thinking the second roll. As for class, could be a jedi apprentice who was a few months short of taking the trials before Anakon hit the temple.
Since that time, ive been roaming around barely living. But now decide to try out being a mercenary to make a living.

Oh oh oh.
I've had a droid concept I've wanted to play for ages:
D5-X9 is a custom-built-from-scratch astromech droid. His builder, and only master he ever had, was a mid-level criminal who preferred to avoid violence and so built D5 to be a completely trustworthy assistant in the many heists and cheats she orchestrated over her career. D5 meant she never had to hire a splicer or co-pilot who'd take part of the cut and possibly betray her.
She passed away a handful of years before the fall of the Republic, and one of her final acts was to liberate D5 into self-ownership, encouraging him to live on having adventures in her stead.
As D5-X9's memory banks have never been wiped in his almost seven decades of existence, he's developed many quirks (or, as he insists, a personality). Primarily, he's never been quite able to process the passing of his creator. As a result, he actively seeks out organics for friendship and professional partnership, but incessantly regards them as incompetent children who would be hopeless without him. Many find this insufferable, but it is in fact the manifestation of an intense co-dependency and poor ability to deal with loss.
He's also got a crippling gambling addiction, and a tendency to "borrow" items for "safe keeping", typically without asking.
I'm at work, and don't have my Saga Edition book with me, but I can have a stat block up by tomorrow. I intend to use the custom droid construction rules.
And here are my stat rolls! (Only 5, of course, since no CON score)
4d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 1, 6) = 13 12
4d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 5, 3) = 14 11
4d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 1, 1) = 9 8
4d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 6, 4) = 20 16
4d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 6, 3) = 16 15
Yikes. That's... Not fantastic...
Attempt #2!
4d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 2, 3) = 13 12
4d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 6, 3) = 12 11
4d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 1, 2) = 12 11
4d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 5, 2) = 17 15
4d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 2, 6) = 13 12
Barf. Okay, looks like I'm going with set #1!

4d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 5, 6) = 18 17
4d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 6, 1) = 16 15
Lol, uh yeah, those will do. :P
With the 2 droid characters already in the hat, I kinda want to go all out and make a Shard Iron Knight in the body of a IG-100 Magnaguard.
Either that or I've always sorta wanted to play a Codru-Ji.

I only have the core book, and the droid options are a bit... sparse... to say the least, like not all of the droid equipment presented in stat blocks actually being detailed anywhere in the book. And especially when it comes to taking a prestige class (which is something the game essentially expects you to do, given the huge defense boosts a PrC gives you).
As the game is long-defunct, is there perhaps a wiki or some other sort of free source for content? I would assume there was a book that expanded on droid options.

Kalus "The Red Hawk" Arrhun |

There is one called The Scavenger's Guide to Droids. I don't know about a wiki, but if you can wait until Monday when I get home from the holidays, you could ask and I can look stuff up for you.
As for Prestige classes, as long as you meet the requirements, you can take any. There are a couple of droid-specific ones.

6SYL |

I don't believe there's any books on droids, most of the books seem to offer an extra droid in each type.
Personally, even if wanting an established droid type, I prefer to build them from scratch using the droids in the core book. Otherwise you invariably need to mess about with xp deficit and nonheroic class levels.
Also I created an profile, because I'm impatient. Though I couldn't find a paizo Avatar that looked remotely how I wanted (but I did create a robot Twi-Lek, so my expectations were slim...)
Kalus - I never knew that book existed, have to see if I can somehow scrounge up a copy.

Droids can take pretty much any non-force using prestige class. They also 2 that are specific to them. The Droid Commander from the Clone Wars Campaign Guide, which would probably be awesome for an all droid party, but if there are only 1 or 2 in the party its probably not worth it. And there's the Independent Droid from The Force Unleashed Campaign Guide, which is a class that gives you features focusing on autonomy and free will. The Independent Droid also has one other interesting feature, unlike nearly all other prestige classes, you can enter it after level 3 rather than level 7. And as Kalus previously mentioned, Scavengers Guide to Droids also adds several options for droid characters.

Rolling for some licenses...
Slugthrower Pistol DC 10: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16 Success, costs 12.5 credits
Ion Pistol DC 10: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12 Success, costs 12.5 credits
Sporting Blaster Rifle DC 10: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14 Success, costs 40 credits.
Cool, got it all on the first try. Hoping to get the crunch finished and up shortly.

Loup Blanc |

Going back over some things and I've decided to switch from a sporting blaster to a slugthrower rifle. Rolling for the new license.
Slugthrower Rifle DC 15: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11 Bah.
Retry: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9 Wow.
Retry Again: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24 There we go. 30% of the cost from that... still loads cheaper than the other rifle.
Still hoping to get crunch up soon. Got delayed by finally seeing Episode VII.

Loup Blanc |

Alright, it's not totally finished because I'll be buying some extra ammo and other little equipment bits, but I think the crunch is pretty much finished here. I'll continue working on backstory and setup tomorrow, also choosing Destiny.

Hey Kip, could I instead use my female human Jedi Cora Tershin that was actually actually made for a previous Dawn of Defiance campaign that abrubtly ended after only a few days? I don't remember the method of her stats, nor her starting money.. If you are cool with it, let me investigate into her ability score generation and starting money. If I have to reroll, her are my 2 rolls.
4d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 1, 3) = 8 = 7
4d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 6, 4) = 18 = 15
4d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 4, 2) = 17 = 15
4d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 5, 5) = 16 = 13
4d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 6, 1) = 12 = 11
4d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 2, 4) = 9 = 8
Meh
4d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 6, 6) = 19 = 17
4d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 1, 5) = 14 = 13
4d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 1, 4) = 15 = 14
4d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 6, 6) = 19 = 17
4d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 1, 3) = 11 = 10
4d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 6, 1) = 11 = 10
Geez those are great!)\
EDIT: So, the ability score generation was the standard 4d6 drop lowest (so my nice roll above is null-and-void), but we had to roll for moneys. That being said, I now have an extra 600 credits to play with for this character, and also I'll be readjusting her talents (thinking Sentinel would fit well with a Jedi that doesn't want to be found... i.e. clear mind). If you don't allow her and instead prefer my Mandalorian, I'm okay with that too.

Also, I know that a droid can take any PrC they qualify for. I should have more clearly stated that there are no PrCs in the Core Book that do anything at all for the specific droid I am building.
Orannis, it might help you to use this. It gives a complete list of the talents and talent trees available to each class / prestige class, as well as what book they can be found in. I'm sure any of us (myself included) with the books would be more than happy to look up entry requirements (and anything else) if any of these sound like something you might want to pursue.
