Destiny: Discovery
The idea of Virssl is that he’s one of the only Mrlssi to go off on his own, and it’s certainly not out of any actual desire to. Rather, it’s an obligation or necessity. While the Mrlssi tend to stay in their own system and avoid conflict, the same cannot be said for their Jedi, who place the Jedi Code above their species’ natural instincts. Since those Jedi fought and died in the Clone Wars, and are being now hunted to extinction, there is a risk of them - and all of their knowledge - being lost. The ones who have survived are in hiding, knowing they cannot come back to the Tapani sector for fear of bringing the wrath of Lord Vader to their homeworld.
Virssl is himself force-sensitive, but while he lacks any kind of training, he hopes that it will be enough that the Force will lead him to another Jedi (preferably Mrlssi but he knows he cannot be too picky). Once he has found the Jedi, he's meant to record their knowledge, training, and experiences for the good of his people and the future. While the Mrlssi could never start a Jedi Academy on their own worlds, he suspects that there are those among his people who would gladly teach at one were it established elsewhere - similar to the professors on Byblos.
While generally a pacifist and scholar, Virssl does carry weapons, though he tries not to use them and isn’t particularly talented with them. They’re mostly for show - the way he sees it, out in the galaxy it would be more unexpected and place a bigger target on him if he wasn’t carrying weapons. His true weapons lie in his quick mouth and quicker wit, which often keep him out of trouble.
