You may check in here. I'd like to know two things from each of you:
1) When will you be able to start? I'm not quite ready to begin just yet, but let me know if you have any time constraints like waiting for another game to end, etc.
2) If you already know which character you'd like to bring, please fill in this info.

I can bring one of three characters. Cosmo, my Star Shaman Shirren mystic, who’s an Ace Pilot, but really happy to let others pilot too because he’s not that good at it. He’s level two. The other two characters that I can bring are each level one. Magical Mu is a Nuar Gladiator Technomancer who I still need to build, but she’s got SFS quests and Commencement on her. Then there’s Bat Elf. Nanananana Bat Elf! Bat Elf is an elvish operative icon who’s a crime fighter and has a theme song. I need to build her too!
I also have to decide if my bandwidth can handle adding another game right now. I want to play this, especially since I want to be part of your maiden voyage, but I’ve been poky in all my games of late, so it might be smarter for me to drop and let you find someone else.
Hmm

An update: I have at least one who would be able to join us if we postpone until after PaizoCon. If the folks who have expressed interest don't mind waiting, I'd like to do that, and then I can also make sure my attention isn't too split with other games at the same time. Of course I'll make a callout in Flaxseed when we're actually ready to begin.
numbat1 |
Hello,
I would be very interested in joining. This would be my first online game so I will need to learn the systems involved. I already have one character developed ready for play, however, I would also be happy to generate another if it would provide a better fit for the party. I don't mind waiting until after PaizoCon. That will give me a chance to attend the seminar there and learn a little more about everything. :-)

Ok then I'll make it official: the game will begin after PaizoCon. It feels like a long time from now but I'm sure May will go by in a flash. :)
Hello Katrina, and welcome! I think your lashunta mystic would be a great fit, so that sounds fine. For now, you might want to do what we call 'dot-and-delete' which means to make a post on the gameplay tab of this game, and then delete it. (The deleting is optional, but it keeps the thread looking tidy.) That will make this game show up in the Campaigns section of your account here on the forums, so you'll be able to find it again easily. (To find it, go to My Account > My Profile and then click to the Campaigns tab.)
In the meantime if you have any specific questions about how things work here, feel free to ask!
Hmm |
Oh!! If we’re waiting until after PaizoCon, that opens things up enormously for me. I can then join. It looks like most of you will be level one, though some may be Level 2 by PaizoCon.
It sounds like there are no operatives or technomancers going, so...
Nananananana Bat Elf! Or Magical Mu would be the principal character choices here. Any preferences as to which one?
Hmm
GM Poblano Pepper |
Yay. Thank you Elinnea for the invite and running this for all of us.
Full disclosure: I will be running this twice at PaizoCon, but I will do my best to not Metagame on you.
Hmm interesting... I have a Few Choices of Characters I can play
If we go high tier I have Galahad Pendragon a Human Tempered Pilgram Solarion 3, and If we go low Tier I have Morroda Metalbender a Half-Orc Gladiator Blitz Soldier 1, Garren Sundale VIII Human Drone Mechanic 1, Captain Balthazar Edison Android Envoy 2 Still need to build, and rounding it out I should have Gorjhect the Watcher Vesk Priest Mystic Healer 1.
I'm ok playing whomever is needed most to round out the party.

Katrina, welcome aboard! If you have any questions, just ask! Most games are already quite beginner friendly but the folks at this table are especially so!
Hmm, I'm personally sold on bat elf. The 'Nananananana' did it for me!
Poblano, wow! I didn't think anyone had that many SFS alts already! Color me impressed!
GM Elinnea |
That's quite a roster! I have four SFS characters so far, but I've only just gotten two of them out of level 1.
What I've seen from people so far:
Ysoki soldier
Lashunta mystic
Elvish operative or Nuar technomancer
Human solarian or android mechanic
Whatever from that long list
It looks like we'll be low tier, but it seems like a well-rounded group regardless. Of course you can all change your minds up until we actually get to start.
GM Poblano Pepper |
Bigboom I have a few of the repeatables under my belt at the moment. In total I have six SFS Characters and more than likely will end up with a few more in the next couple months.

Hi Richard, and welcome!
Since we have a little while yet before the actual game starts, and a couple new folks, we can take a bit of time to talk about how Starfinder and/or Starfinder Society and/or play-by-post gaming work.
I have a few expectations written out on this alias’s page, so please take a look at that and let me know if any of it is not clear. Also some points specific to the pbp format:
* A SFS character can only be in one game at a time. That means once he or she has started in a game on the forums, he can’t be used in another game (either online or face to face) until you get a chronicle for this game, marking it as officially complete.
* Play by post means that people post when they can, at whatever times work best for them. I prefer a pace of at least one post per day per person, and one over the weekend. This results in a longer overall time than a face-to-face game, usually a few weeks or more. But it also gives you time to look up rules you’re not sure of, and think about what you want to say before you say it, so there are some positives as well.
* An organized play character on this site automatically has an alias that you can use to post with, and most people also fill in their character info on the alias profile page to act as your online character sheet. I’ll put an example after this post so you can see what I mean.
This post is already getting pretty long, so I’ll stop there! Sorry if any of this is repeating stuff you already know.
Cora Jex |
And this is an example of one of my Starfinder Society characters. You can see her info if you click to look at the alias. (I include a lot of details because I like to use it as a reference. You don’t have to match this format exactly. There are some templates to help so it’s not too hard to set up an alias.)
Bat Elf |
You may check in here. I'd like to know two things from each of you:
1) When will you be able to start? I'm not quite ready to begin just yet, but let me know if you have any time constraints like waiting for another game to end, etc.
2) If you already know which character you'd like to bring, please fill in this info.
1) Tomorrow — But I still need to pick a final feat and transfer equipment from my ITS to my profile.
2) Bat Elf!!
Other than final feat selection — who do we have here? I am either going to take a feat to get diplomacy and mysticism as class skills, or I will take a feat to get better at knowledges. If we already have a great face, I know what I’m doing.
Care to look over my sheet and the Batting Instructions, Elinnea?

Batting instructions... I see what you did there... The sheet looks good though!
To everybody: to finalize your character choices and check back in, could each of you follow the link at the top of the page (also linked in this alias below my name) and fill out the info on the second slide? That is, your initiative, perception bonus, and an icon for your character placed in a default marching order. This is both to collect the info and to make sure each of you has access to edit the slides properly.
I'll have a gameplay post up soon, and you can introduce yourselves in-character when you're ready. Then we can get started!
Bat Elf |
Oddly, I can edit my image on the slides fine, but editing text boxes on slides in mobile is challenging for me.
Here is Bat Elf’s Information:
[dice=Initiative, Bat Elf]1d20+3[/dice]
[dice=Perception, Bat Elf]1d20+7[/dice]
Feel free to copy and paste it into the text block — I cannot without deleting the whole thing. Must be the result of a notorious villain plot.
Hmm
Bat Elf |
Thank you!!! Alfred and I have introduced ourselves in Gameplay, and hopefully have provided a hook for all of you to work with.
Alfred the Android |
“Miss Apastron is in a delicate state right now. Can you try not to upset her delusions? I.. er... worry about her.”
I’m so excited that I found this avatar. I think it’ll work perfectly for Alfred.
Sharmain |
I have hopefully loaded my character information from HLO. Plus, I think this will post as Sharmain. Now I need to work out the rest.
I should be available to start anytime. I may have one or two days in the near future when I will be less available, though I will try to provide a warning when that is to happen.
I would be happy for anyone to check my character sheet and advise or any recommended changes. I already caught that my first selected weapon was not allowed at first level as it was not from the core book, so I changed that to what I currently have.
It was great to meet some of you in person at PaizoCon.
Sharmain |
Next step attempted. Well, it even updated the previous post. Ha!
I think I did the dice thing correctly for the initiative and perception. I have no idea how to make the icon for the slide. Off to see if I can find that info.
Sharmain |
Thank you, Redelia. I am using Chrome and have now installed the extension.

Woot! Welcome Numbatglad to sit at a table with you. Was a Pleasure to meet you in person.
I believe my Android Space Pirate Envoy might be the best fit for this game and a Captain is only as good as his crew.
I still need to finish building him though so that will be done by tomorrow.
ps this is Poblano by the way.
Bat Elf |
So you’re aiming for Captain? That’s fine. Bat Elf is the first character I’ve ever had who can serve in any position on the ship. I’d be happy to operate the Bat Scans, use my Bat Wrench, or help out on the guns with a great big Bat Boom. I’d be equally happy to pilot the Batmobile, but Rat-a-Tat might have that role covered for us.
So nice to see all the new people coming aboard!
Hmm
Ratatat |
Oh right... Starship roles!
Ratatat is probably best placed as a gunner (+5) or pilot (+9) but can also serve as an engineer (+7) if needed.
Sharmain |
Sharmain has no starship experience. With +4 diplomacy and +4 piloting, I suspect she is best as a secondary gunner.
GM Elinnea |
It seems like we have the main starship roles covered. To summarize what I'm seeing people say:
Balthazar: captain
Ratatat: pilot
Sharmain: gunner
Zac: engineer
Bat Elf: science? gunner?
?: ?
You can change around between rounds of starship combat as well if needed, so we'll see how things go.
Zac Atrois |
This is weird. I can't seem to find where to edit the character's description block. It's still stuck as "Male Ysoki Mechanic (Spacefarer)/1". And where do people find token images?
GM Elinnea |
The words that show up as your tagline when you post on the forum are what's written in the Race, Classes/Levels, and Gender fields. If you click on one of the others' character profiles, you can see the info in those is not actually the race/class/gender - it's just so it shows up in the forum. The stuff you put in the actual "About" box is everything else about the character, that would normally go on a character sheet.
I see you figured out how to add the avatar to your alias - you can use the same picture for the token as well. Just right-click and copy it onto the slide.
As for making it round, with a nice colored border... that's just gravy. :) You can do that by cropping it into a circle shape using the Crop button within Google slides when you have the token image selected, and then add a border color. It's not required but it does make it easier to tell the tokens apart when they're small on a map.
Sharmain |
This is the template I used for the tagline information.
As I slowly try one more item from my list of BBCode tags.
Captain Balthazar Edison |
Full disclosure for you Elinnea I have run this Specific Scenario twice this last weekend at PaizoCon. It will not interfere with my playing medium though.
Bat Elf |
Bat Elf can fill in anywhere. I built her for Captain so that she can easily aid at any station, but that means that she can also serve at any station. I think it’s likely that she will start out in the Science Officer position and then help out in Engineering, shifting fluidly where needed.
Ratatat |
I can start anytime but take your time getting ready. No rush on my part! My character is a lil ysoki soldier.

How do promotional boons work in PbP? I have both a pin and a portfolio. I understand that only one can be slotted, but how do I show these in PbP?
Faria Sunburst |
You tell the GM that you have them. The GM has to right to request that you prove it; you could do this either with a photo (they would tell you exactly what they will accept) or by a receipt. They often don't ask, though.
Sharmain |
Thank you, Faria.

I have a question: Numbat is this your first Starfinder Society Endeavor?
Sharmain |
Numbat is this your first Starfinder Society Endeavor?
It is not. I have a live play character as well. I haven't played much but I have started playing more recently.
This will be Richard's second game, I dragged him to a live play when I was visiting CA recently.
