Have fun at Origins. I've heard good things about that Con but have yet to experience it.
Gary Pepper |
I love PBP. It’s such a great medium for developing a character’s backstory, even when you’re an NPC ally. Alfred now has a backstory in his profile.
OMG I love it!!
Have fun at Origins Redelia

Sorry for accidentally posting as Numbat in the gameplay thread. For some reason, although I have Paizo Campaign Tools installed on both desktop and laptop, the alias selection appears not to be working on my laptop. :-(
I really don't know what I may have done differently. Sigh.
Bat Elf |
I accidentally post as the wrong identity once per any game that I am running. It happens to us all!
Hmm
Sharmain |
What time of day is it as we decide about joining in games and the village bustles around?
I am thinking of wandering a bit to see if there are any sick around that may need healing. I am thinking that it may help gain further favour with the village as well as being a good thing to do. On the other hand, I don't want to use all my healing right before we trek into danger.
Do we have a sense of time frame?
GM Elinnea |
It should be around mid-morning. Since you spent extra time orbiting the planet, I assume you came down for the start of a day.
GM Elinnea |
I hope you don't mind all of these suuuper long update posts lately. It won't be quite so roleplay-heavy for the entire scenario, I promise. Thanks for indulging me in this scene. I'm enjoying reading everyone's posts. :D
Sharmain |
I am enjoying developing a little roleplay skill. That was one of the things I was hoping for with PbP.
I really like good roleplay at the table but find it very challenging myself.
Zac Atrois |
I like the long posts. The advantage to this format is the time to consider a (hopefully) well written post.
Sharmain |
Seems like we are each having a busy weekend. I hope it has been enjoyable.

On Saturday, I went to work to run a Star Wars program at the library — we made light sabers with working lights. Then I took the afternoon off to run Skittershot at Free RPG Day, and then I GMed Dead Suns at my house.
It was all fun, but it added up to no free time for anything else! Description of the Skitter Shot game which includes a link to the map I drew for it.

You can move slowly and carefully (half speed) to give yourself a +2 bonus on the check. You also get a +5 bonus when you start the round within one of the round buildings (that includes your starting position).
Clarification - both these bonuses are to the acrobatics check?
GM Elinnea |
Sorry if that was unclear. No, those bonuses are for the fortitude save to resist the storm.

Elinnea you have done a fantastic job with the Skitter Shot and 5uper Goblins Pregens converting to BB Code.
Well done!
Sharmain |

Nah, it was me overthinking things. I figured the +5 was for Fortitude given we had partial shelter, but wondered if the +2 was for Acrobatics as we were moving carefully and slowly. They seemed to be connected so by then I had confused myself and thought I should ask. Thanks for the quick response.

Are you guys playing these as PbP? Are you having fun? I heard good things about the Skitter Shot game. I may try to catch that one later.
Bat Elf |
The lodge will be offering them in July when the free RPG day exclusivity period ends. Elinnea has just done some groundwork to make it easier for people to run them.
She’s awesome that way.

Hehe it’s fun for me. Nowhere was offering them for Free RPG day near me so it gave me a reason to read the new skittermander characters. Maybe I’ll get to play one of them myself sooner or later. ^^

Tomorrow is likely to be pretty hectic for me, so I put my next round post up early. Please feel free to move me an additional 30 feet (or more if there is a way to finagle it) if others move on. I am also happy to wait for Bat Elf to catch up with us before we complete more rounds.
This game is currently a highlight in my life. Thank you all for making this so.
Bat Elf |
I am happy to hear that. Meanwhile, sorry for being the absentee player here. There’s always lots of work at the start of a convention.

I know that all to well.
Bat Elf |
Who here has played or GMed Skitter Shot already?
GM Elinnea |
Sharmain: I’m so glad you’re enjoying it! This game has been really fun for me too. You’re all doing a great job.
Bat Elf: I can only imagine! It seems like a huge undertaking. Let me know if you need me to bot you, but it’s always more exciting if Bat Elf can do her own bat stunts.
Nope, haven’t seen Skitter Shot yet.

I am posting this across all my tables so sorry to those of you reading this for the second or third time.
I will be away and without internet starting Tomorrow though Monday. If you need to bot me there is a BotMe! Spoiler in my profile.
Have fun and see all of you Monday.

When did this turn into a musical? When I joined the campaign, Zac! Besides, Bat Elf is an icon!
I love that Ratatat and Zac joined in as background dancers though! That was a highlight for me!

On the subject of door opening procedures:
Hmm's proposal is that I can roll perception checks for the entire group when you enter a room, and then automatically roll engineering checks as well for Zac and Bat Elf if anybody spots a trap that needs disabling. I think that's a good idea (and it's why I asked for your perception bonuses at the beginning).
I also will say that in order to move through a bunch of rooms and hallways, I'm not going to wait for everyone in the party to weigh in for every trivial decision. If three people agree to go right or left, for example, I will take the group that way.
Any thoughts or other special requests?
Ratatat |
Works for me!
Sharmain |
I am fine with a standard door check procedure and the current proposal seems eminently reasonable.
Balthazar - I hope you are feeling better. Bronchitis is no fun.
Unfortunately, right now I have a massive headache and pounding sinuses. I am hoping this is just a combination of stress from the day I have had combined with allergies.
If there is time for the additional break and her companions are willing Sharmain will spend the 10 minutes to recover her stamina. She will use the slotted promotional boon to save her resolve points.
Sharmain (6/6 SP, 3/4 RP)
So if I understand the promotional boon (character portfolio) correctly, I did not actually spend the RP this time but rather used the boon to reduce the cost to 0.
My post tonight will be brief and I hope to be back in full force tomorrow.

You’re quite right about the promotional boon. It slipped my mind when I was making the update post.
Get some good rest everybody and stay (or get) well!
Bat Elf |
I will be largely absentee the next two days. Work will be NUTS.
Bat me, friends!
Sharmain |
When we are in rounds like we are now, and there is concealed information available with a relevant and successful check, do we need to wait until our turn in the action block to roll and hopefully read? Or is that ok to do at any point and simply delay our action until appropriate?
GM Elinnea |
That might be something that various GMs run differently, but for me you can roll a check at any time but can't take any actual in-character actions based on it until the block with your turn comes up in the initiative. (Which in this case will be right after I have the enemies take their first turn.)
Sharmain |
Thanks, GM Elinnea. I suspected you would handle it that way but wanted to confirm before making the check. I will know for next time. :-)

Looking for feedback:
I spent some time today expanding my Bot Me options. This is both to provide gameplay in case of my absence and also to be able to copy and paste as needed to speed my own play somewhat.
If you have time to check them out and let me know of any suggested improvements, I would appreciate it. Do I have enough information? Too much information? Are my dice labels too long or break the mood by including things like "against KAC" or is this useful information to include?
I understand we will all develop our own style to a certain extent, while mine is forming I welcome feedback so that I can guide it to be both pleasant and useful.
Thank you.

I'm not the greatest with designing bot me spoilers, but you can have my opinion at least.
It looks pretty good. Personally I do like to include KAC or EAC in my attack rolls - it makes it simpler for whoever is on the other end of it, to see at a glance which one it targets. Rolling dice is inherently out of character anyway.
I like how you labeled one attack as the default option; you might want to do something like that as well with the healing section, or include a general statement of tactics, just in case a GM comes there needing to bot something for you. The instructions in Balthazar's profile, for example, were very helpful for me in the combat just now. And you probably don't want somebody using up your limited-use resources, like precious spell slots, just because you have the rolls typed out and ready.
Bat Elf |
I’ve been ill all weekend, and barely on. I’m going back to work today, but I’m not sure I’ll make it through the entire day. Feel free to bot me as needed.
Sharmain |
Wishing you a speedy recovery, Hmm/Bat Elf.
Bat Elf |
Thank you, it has been a rough weekend...
Hmm
Sharmain |
Thanks for leading the way there Zac, reminding me I did not need to just impatiently wait my turn in the battle, I could also post for flavour.
Bat Elf |
The SMC post was entirely flavour!
I’ll be at a convention all weekend. I’ll probably be able to keep up with this PBP, but if I go absent... Bat me!
I have been loving our little musical and this epic showdown at the end. This has been a seriously fun little game everyone.
Hmm
Sharmain |
The SMC post was entirely flavour!
Yeah, but that is so you and completely expected. Other than writing my own filk to join in (not ready yet) I hadn't seen me participating much. I was, instead, quietly watching the list and waiting for my turn. Zac's post reminded me I didn't need to wait, there were other ways to post with flavour that did not involve actual composition.
I loved Balthazar joining in on the musical production and now Sharmain is adjusting her notions of how Starfinder assignments must work and expanding her own possibilities. :-) The two of you have been a big influence in this. Ratatat and Zac providing the dance support have helped as well.
Bat Elf |
Oh dear. I have become predictable... Phooey!
Bat Elf |
I don’t worry about people enjoying my posts... I worry that people look at my songs and go: “Oh, ho hum. There goes GM Hmm with her dumb rhymes again.”
If you’re always expecting it... Is it a little stale?
Hmm

It's more of "Yay! So glad I am in this game with Hmm and her wonderful filk. I wish I could do that too."
Honestly, I did not mean to imply in any way that your musical interludes are taken for granted or breezed over. It is more a case of the legend/reputation precedes you. If Thor showed up in my living room, I'd expect there to be a great big hammer around somewhere. Knowing I was going to be in a game with Hmm meant I more than half expected the possibility of it turning musical. It wasn't long before I discovered the rumour was true. :-)
Not only is this delightful in itself, it also takes me back many years to my original D&D days. We had one GM/player with a beautiful Welsh singing voice. He would often bring songs and filk to the game and inspired others likewise.

So my takeaway is that Hmm is Thor!!!
