Zagatrill is going to take the feat to enable two paths. Probably Guardian and Champion.

One question that I wondered about after Steady Hand's/Alhandra's posts:
Isn't Osiriani kinda the "normal" language here, considering that we are in, well, Osirion? I'm actually pretty sure that I read somewhere that it's usually considered "Common" (and the free starting language, though I can't find that right now, so I might be wrong here) in northern Garund (), with Taldane mostly only spoken by traders and foreigners.
Just wanted to make sure we are all actually speaking the same language when writing "Common".

Which one would you be starting off with? I'll put you down as that one.

Indeed! Osiriani is the main tongue in Osirion - but that being said, Eto in particular has its large share of foreign traffic thanks to it being the 'launchpad' for expeditions into the desert. As a result, Taldane is very commonly spoken by the locales - even if its not their primary language.

As for the free starting languages, all players may start with Taldane, their racial languages, and their homeland's language, if any.

So, someone from Osirian would have Taldane(Common) and Osirani, while someone from Alkenstar would have Taldane(Common) and Garundi, and someone from say, The Mwangi Expanse would have Taldane(Common) and Polyglot.

This way, players gain a free language from their homeland and they still speak Taldane(Common), so they have that language as their common language between each other.

Also, looking at some submissions, I would ask everyone who has put their crunch/stats in spoilers to please not do that.

Please use This Guy and This Other Guy as a guideline of what I want your character sheet to look like. I'm fine with ones that don't exactly match this, but a Beastiary Stat Block would be greatly preferred so I can find what I need to find easier.

Those failing to follow this will be less likely to be picked, as it makes it a pain for me to find what I need to find. Background, personality, etc, as well as descriptions of feats/traits (not the list of feats themselves) can be spoilered.

Also, for those who have not put their background/personality/etc into their aliases, please do so - I don't wish to search through the thread to find their background when I should be able to look in their alias to find it.

(Alandra, you're fine, as your PDF is very easy to read, even if its not in the correct format - though if you could put the link to your PDF in your alias, that would be great.)

If you wish to download the exact format of Dr. Logem, you may do so in .txt format Here. Just copy/paste and modify. (Don't mind the list of gear at the bottom - I used that to keep track of gear/price/weight as I was purchasing it, while the spoiler/list further below that is the list on Marcellano's page I meant to use for player notes. Feel free to use either, but those are not required by any means. I just like to keep organized)

Ok, took the stat block out of the spoiler and gave him one more language (Vudrani, because I guess quite a few of the older texts in the monastery are still in that language and he has thus probably learned it).
Do you also want us to fill in the "optional" fields? I always found them rather lackluster (or use them as a small combat statblock).

Which optional ones are you refering to?

The boards form fields, which, when filled in, appear on the top left
of the profile (some also appear under your name in each post).
So Full Name, Race, Class/Levels etc.
Your example characters have them mostly filled out.

You don't have to - but its a plus.

Well, considering that it only takes about 2 minutes, there's then no point not doing it :)

Correction: 1 Minute^^

Starting as Guardian

Sasbrek has been updated. The profile should now be as per your request.

I decided against the crossblooded archetype. He now is full red Draconic bloodline (If we get to high level I may even thino of Draconic Disciple), but thanks to the Mixed Scales feat will get a little Green Dragon in there as well.

Now to the gameplay thread!

Sczarni

I too have updated my profile to fit your requested layout. I'm glad I took the time, it's rather convenient.

Already set in format, or pretty close to anyway.

Alhandra speaks Common (Taldane) and Vudrani fluently. She is also fluent in a language that is not quite Aklo but from which Aklo may have evolved. That language does not seem to be speakable by a humanoid but when you look closely at Alhandra, there appears to be something wrong with her tongue, as if it's been cut and then stitched somehow.

She doesn't speak Osiriani or Rahadouni or else things might be going in a different direction.

It's also important to know that Alhandra is not always speaking to the person standing in front of her, even if that person is speaking back to her. There are no tenses in Aklo so she may have spoken, is speaking, or will be speaking to the occupier of the space to which she is currently speaking. It's very complicated and you need tentacles to understand it.

As I have understood it you can always replace common with the dialect of the native country, common is Taldane in all cases of common. Since our kind gm is hand waving a second language for those native to areas it isn't as important.

It won't matter in the long run really anyways - Osirion will be long behind you after a while, and you'll be in realms where telepathy and truespeech are more common. Not to mention Infernal, Abyssal, and Celestial..

Those three languages are probably more useful than Osiriani :P

Sczarni

Ha, so I'm supposing a claim of meta-gaming would be in order if I changed my character's 8 languages to reflect that.

No matter. Linguistics is a useful skill. :P

Sczarni

Oh, and one last question for you, DM. I saw you allow a free Story Feat. I'm heavily considering Thief of Legend, but the pre-reqs require that I have stolen 1,000 gp in goods. Is it safe to say that I have stolen at least that much in my career?

Don't worry about prereqs for the Story Feats.

Hey I actually didn't spoiler my stat block this time. I do sometimes and thought I had :)

Apparently don't have the background etc in there though, so let me fix that...

Done!

This is turning out to have numerous insane entries - almost as insane as the journey itself will turn out! Don't worry though. I like insane, considering that I'm playing a bloodthirsty dwarven vivisectionist who loves to experiment on people in another campaign. (See Dr. Logem's backstory) Plus the backstories make the insanity all that much more interesting.

Do note that if I haven't sent you a message or commented on your character, in all likelyhood I have no quarrel with your character. Granted, keeping up with submissions has been alot more ‼fun‼ than I first anticipated. I can only imagine what Rob had to go through with the submissions for Quest for Arcadia..

I'm still working on my Marshall who is a Cleric (Evangelist)/Cavalier and probably Battle Herald to be. The guy turned into a Halfling by now (He has come a long way, from Wayang to Fetchling to Suli to Human and now Halfling).

Not completely sold on the history yet, but the main idea is that he actually gained from the destruction. First he was freed from slavery when Katapesh collapsed.
While feeling to Osirion however he was once again captured and sold into slavery. It was his new owner that was tricked by the Ruby Prince and once again he managed to escape due to sheer luck.

Each time he fled he led a group of fellow slaves as well as former slavers out of there and to safety. In his trials he found the faith of Valani, an Empyreal Lord who preaches destruction in order to make place for growth and change.

The guy's name is Jandor Thalin, he is the son of halfling slaves sold by nobles in Westcrown because they wanted to raise enough money to flee the city as it was going down.

Halflings are very common in Sothis, actually - in fact, Sothis is one of the main Halfling settlements in the Inner Sea Region. So as an extention, seeing them in other places in Osirion would not be a problem what-so-ever, Cuan.

Osirions actually like halflings, as they believe they emanate luck - so they include them in their businesses, and Halflings in Osirion can be found in all walks of life there, from slaves to laborers to artisans.

So unlike Cheliax, they're not forced into slavery just because they're halflings - there are enough of them as slaves, but there are also plenty of free ones, and they're generally treated well.

Crusty, I haven't statted my character yet and I am still working on the backstory. I have also not posted in the 45+ posts in the game play recruitment thread? Do I still have a chance with my character or should I just sit this one out?

Yeah you still have a chance - I'm considering extending the recruitment for another week, though I haven't decided yet. Even if I don't, however, you still have a chance.

I'm looking for quality of posts more than quantity.

Would everyone be alright with me extending the recruitment by one week? Not everyone who has entered has posted in the gameplay thread, and not to mention, my RL friend hasn't gotten around to making their character finalized yet. XD

I will start posting in Gameplay as soon as I get a chance to write something deserving of this thread and recruitment - I have read a lot about the Ruins of Pathfinder and... I want in!

I was on vacations during last week, but inch by inch Zeriax took form in my head, and I wrote his background (though incomplete) bit by bit, inbetween drinks and the beach. So I am putting him forward here as my submission - yep, he is a Zen Archer :D

His background is not fully fleshed out in writing, but is thought out in my head - it is not complete because I have lacked the time to do it so far, but also because the plan is/was to flesh it out through thoughts and interactions in the gameplay thread.

I know I am REALLY late to the party, since recruitment is to be closed on the 8th, but I am going at it hoping for a fighting chance at this one.

So... Here's Zeriax.

EDIT: Ninjaed by the GM! Of course I would vote to extend recruitment for another week - I think my chances would improve a lot. But I'll be honest here [and not only because it makes me look like a cool guy :D] - for the people that already put in so much work and thought into their characters for the duration of this Recruitment (yep, I was following it since the start) I think a decision would be very welcome.

Crusty, you mean other than Unafe literally dying of anticipation? ;0)

Seriously, I appreciate being asked but I can't imagine any player with a straight face saying that DM can't extend the deadline if he needs to...and as it happens I'm having a ton of fun in the recruitment thread so waiting a bit longer is no biggie for me. I've loved so many of the submissions already and look forward to more interesting characters joining the fray!

I would prefer to start sooner rather than later, but as it is your game, it is your call.

No, you may not extend recruitment. I just finally got interaction going so by Murphy's law you must close the thread before I manage to secure myself a place in this groups personal story. Sorry but you should not go against Murphy, he is kind of a jerk about these things. :P

Up to you, but I'd ask you hold your RL friend to the same standards as everyone else. It really lowers incentive to perform to know that someone else is going to automatically get in whether they they put in the work or not. Especially if you're going to make exceptions to things you've stated just for them.

If it's you who really wants them to play and not them, you're probably just shooting yourself in the foot by including a potentially unreliable player. Not telling you what to do, just speaking from past experience here.

Again, up to you about recruitment, but I feel we have had plenty of time to finish characters, and that there enough quality submissions who have posted in gameplay to make a solid party. Especially adding in the one more of your friend.

I'm generally ok with either, the recruitment is already more fun than many actual game.^^
Also as I said in the Interest Check, I'll be in Japan for a week, starting today. While it should not have to much impact on my posting in general, the fact that I only have my tablet here might mean shorter posts.
Afterwards I'm back to European schedule for the foreseeable future.

Extending sounds okay to me. I have been a bit busy the last few and next few days, and haven't been really sure when to fit Gi'chak into the current flow. Now I've fallen behind on reading too, so... yeah extra time is good for me.

Alright guys, giving it quite a bit of thought, I will be extending the deadline one week.

So, the new deadline is September 15th instead of today. Tomorrow I will be moving us along to the feast in the gameplay thread - you may continue your discussions prior to that, if you wish. If you've already posted thus far, you are not required to keep posting to still have a chance - though I certainly approve of it, at least.

I've had a busy weekend and haven't had enough time to really decide on players, but I've been reading the gameplay thread and I'm really enjoying the interaction thus far, even if I regret my decision on not starting the gameplay thread at the feast from the beginning.

Anyways, carry on! Expect said post tomorrow sometime. Do note that no matter what happens, I will not be extending it further after next week - if you haven't gotten a submission in by then, you're out of luck. I too am looking forward to this campaign, after all :P

Sorry I took so long. Too much WoW last couple days :s

I'll probably wait until the feast to actually introduce Gi'chak to anyone else if that's alright. Unless anyone else wants to join him on the roof anyway :D

Hah I know the feeling Gi'Chak.. I've been distracted by a combination of real-life crap and a game called Elemental: Fallen Enchantress - Legendary Heroes as of late. I've gone and made the 7 Runelords and am currently playing as Karzoug the Claimer.. enslaved this big giant guy with a 2h axe (He was called the Unchained Juggernaut or something before, now I've gone and rechained him), and currently have the bugger as Karzoug's personal guard - the two are ripping through the Runelord of Sloth's forces, currently, after having annihilated the Runelord of Envy.

Anyways, gameplay post is up! You guys have until Sunday night to finish submissions.

Short of describing my character eating a meal, I don't really see much to respond to there. It's pretty clear the masked guys don't interact, and we have no idea where the caravan that interested us has gone.

Word. I was trying to think of something to post earlier and just found myself asking "So wait, we never caught up to the caravan? Where is Nexander staying? What happened to Unafe and Thorgrim and Wu Cheng, did we become friends over the last couple days?"

Surprisingly, Thorgrim would actually be interested in what Xander had to say on the subject of Artifacts and the like. Or any encounters he's had with things from beyond the Prime Material.

You guys were with the caravan - it didn't arrive all at once, however, due to its size. As forwhere Nexander is staying and what happened to the others, that much is up to you - I guess I left too much open for you guys to interpret, causing a bit of confusion. XD

..my apologies for causing that confusion, then. First time doing the whole RP-recruitment thing >.O

I like that the RP recruitment is showing what potential interactions with various party members is like, establishing some common history and reasons to be interested in one another.

I agree though that it's getting harder to imagine what exactly has happened and what we'd do. For instance, several of us were trying to catch up with Dr Pinkerton (or at least the Ghoran). If we did, there's a conversation to be had that I don't think it makes sense for me to make up. If we didn't, we might ask around about them, or go looking for work options...the results of which I also don't want to make up.

That said, I'm happy to say that we failed to find the Ghoran and Pinkerton for now, and so have retired to the Gnoll, where we will stay for the next few days, looking for leads on interesting work, mixed with playing a cool dice game that Nexander introduces us to. I'm happy to roleplay Unafe more, on someone else's initiative, but I'm also happy to give players who haven't had as much time in the gameplay thread some time in the spotlight.

Crusty, shall we assume that we won't interact with Pinkerton & company until after recruitment closes? Or will that happen later on this week?

No interaction with Pinkerton and company until after recruitment closes, aye.

No worries, I provide my own hooks. :) Come join the fun my friends. Let us not let the thread go stagnant.

As a heads up I am working 34 hours over the next three nights, so my posting ability is likely to be limited until Mondayish, will try and get a post up for the feast before then if I can

I've done more work on my character sheet. The background is still in the works and I have a lot of equipment still to purchase, but the meat is there.

Should I finish it completely before entering the RP opening thread or jump in now while it is still active?

Go ahead and post in it before you're completely done.

Sasbrek is acting pretty randomly in this recruitment, a byproduct of the errating posting schedule with so many applicants and the inability to follow this many situations. Also, he is a jungle-raised kobold.

He would be a much better team player in a focused group.

Additional research has given me a different character concept and so I have pulled Alhandra's submission with Crusty's approval. The last page of this packet is a bit of a spoiler so don't read it if you are unfamiliar with the subject.

Alhandra's day will come, someday. The opportunity to build a character tailored for this adventure was too much to pass up and so that's what I've done.

Aluriel can be found here.

I was hoping to get in one more post today but it didn't happen and now I'm going to be offline until Sunday. Hoping to still get at least one more in before recruitment closes.

In the mean time, best of luck to all.

I'm actually withdrawing from the recruitment. While it looks a whole lot of fun I simply can't wrap my head around a concept that would both be enjoyable to myself and would do right by the setting.

Best of luck all and I hope you enjoy it and kick some posterior!
