Since you said to ask for weird races, would you bew willing to consider a kobold character?
Concept: Sorcerer (either with Draconic bloodline or Kobold racial bloodline with Draconic heritage feat tree) born into a tribe in the Mwangi Expanse, believing to be marked by a great dragon to be the leader, loses the fight for supremacy in his tribe - while cunning, he lacks the lust for blood of his peers.
He is a bit of a joke now in his tribe, and when he discorvers the threat of Ydersius tries to warn his people but gets mocked (a bit of Cassandra vibe). His tribe welcomes the serpentfolk as fellow reptilians, believing in a new dawn for the Scaly Ones... only to be brutally slaughtered and/or enslaved by the rising clergy of Ydersius.
The PC runs off to Nex, where he tires to discover who his father is (he is convinced he is a great dragon who sends him messages), to learn about his heritage, vowing to come back more powerful (maybe even fully transformed into a dragon!) a free his tribe from the hated serpentfolk!
It doesn't really work with any other race - if you veto kobolds, I'll think of a different concept.
Thanks for the attention!

I'll allow Kobolds, but do note that its a very, very long distance from southern Mwangi (Where the Serpentfolk would be) to Nex, so you'll need to put more info on how he got to Nex. The journey itself would be a big adventure, one would assume.
Looking at the map, it looks roughly 800 miles straight-shot from the southern Mwangi to Nex - not to mention the rough terrain.
However, I don't know exactly how far east the Serpentfolk would have gone so far - the eastern edge of the Mwangi would only be about ~350 miles from Nex (Quantium, at least).

He is the son of the mighty Meraxes, the Scaly Storm! A bit of jungle can't scare him!
(That would be his mindset, usually).

I think I want to throw my hat into the ring for this one - And what exactly is going on in the Gameplay thread? :D
Gameplay prologue so I can see all of the entries' roleplaying skills. They just arrived from Sothis to Eto on a caravan, and are now resting/relaxing/shopping.
Feel free to join in once you have your character idea!

Cuàn |

Character idea or a fleshed out character?
I had a change of mind as to my character. Instead of going for an Arcane Duelist Bard I'll be aiming for a Cavalier(Standardbearer)/Cleric(Evangelist) who will be going for Battle Herald.
The basic idea is that as a result of all the misery she had to endure (as Katapesh Refugee) she changed her devotion from Sarenrae to Ragathiel, done with Sarenrae's mellow approach and now eager to take down evil herself, bringing an end to the chaos and madness of the changed world. She still wield her old patron's blade, but only because that is what she is used to.
Not settled on race, but Human is the most likely candidate. That or Half Elf.

Zagatrill |

Introducing Zagatrill Swamphopper
Gnome
Anticipated Mythic Paths: Guardian and Hierophant
Traits: 1. Soldier of the Faith
2. Jungle guide
3. Guardian Campaign Trait (didn’t really use the background but I hope adding my own fluff to the accepted crunch will do)
Drawback: Overprotective
This way of life might have continued for decades more had it not been for the coming of the Eye of Abendego. While the first day or two of the new storm was exhilarating and really quite fascinating, in a surprisingly short time the storm lost its appeal. The community tried to stay in their increasingly swampy home for a time but the continued deluge and the increasingly dangerous nature of the few remaining humans eventually drove them from Yamasa into the jungles.
It was about forty years after this migration to the Jungles that Zagatrill was born. At this time the gnomes had adopted a tribal life. Living off the jungle and moving constantly the gnomes actually managed to flourish. Their frequent trips to the jungle over the preceding decades had taught them the skills they would need to survive and their eldest priest had learned the skills of the local druids.
For the first two decades of Zagatrills life he happily lived as any gnome child might have. He explored the jungle around his village, caught multiple horribly virulent tropical diseases, was poisoned by an adder, nearly eviscerated by a monitor lizard, poisoned again (by a spider this time), broke both his legs falling out of a tree, got caught twice in quicksand… and in general had a wonderful time. However as he entered his adolescence the jungle began to change.
The demonic apes from the northwest had always been a threat and the gnomes had quickly learned to avoid their occasional raiding band. As he got older though, the apes seemed to become increasingly active throughout the jungle and the threat of being devoured by carnivorous demonic monkeys grew more and more prevalent. Perhaps the apes could have been avoided, but simultaneously, Zagatrills band of gnomes was discovered by the twisted Eloko. Unknown to them, the Eloko had been watching the tribe for some time.
The attack came in the early hours of the morning. A strong band of Eloko streamed out of the jungle screaming and brandishing their nets and clubs. The gnomes of Zagatrills band were no strangers to combat, you don’t survive the jungle if you cant protect yourselves, but unprepared for the attack they were hard pressed to fend off the Eloko aggressors. The tribe leader, the druid Kibblegask Bentfiddle finally beat them back by calling up a storm of fire to engulf the surrounding jungle but he himself was unable to escape from the torrent of flame as the foliage caught. Zagatrill attempted to rescue Kibblegask but the heat of the flame drove him back, burning him badly and leaving a scar over his left forehead that he still has today.
While the tribe escaped with few of their number lost, this new threat and the loss of their leader and protector left them to vulnerable to remain where they were in the Jungle.
Zagatrills tribe began to move away from the Jungles. Heading slowly south they sought a new land that would be as gloriously interesting as the Jungles but where they would be safer (safer from External threats anyway). In the aftermath of the Eloko attack, Zagatrill emerged as strength in the community. His general lack of sense of self-preservation and willingness to face injury made him a fervent defender of the tribe, confronting threats that even most of the other gnomes shied away from without hesitation. They moved south out of the Kaava lands and into Sargava where the nearby semblance of civilization kept the worst of the threats at bay.
While in Sargava, Zagatrill engaged in frequent dialogue and exchange with the assorted human tribes as well as the colonial forces. From these groups he received true training in combat. From the tribes he learned savagery and became an expert fighting from the back of both horse and the giant trained lizards used as mounts. From the colonials he learned social polish and how to fight with modern arms and armor. He was tempted to enlist in the colonial military where he would daily be able to mingle with the humans and explore their world thoroughly but in the end he couldn’t bear the thought of leaving his family and community. During this time Zagatrill awakened to a young female gnome in his tribe – Laya Ardaflower
In all likelihood Zagatrill would have eventually started a farm and family of his own and lived quite contentedly until one day he was killed in a tragic accident on a pilgrimage in the Jungle, as was proper, but everything changed when Ydersius began to re-emerge.
With the serpentfolk slowly absorbing more and more of the southern Jungles into their empire, there quickly became no choice for the gnomes but to flee if they were going to survive. Once again the community was driven out, forced to a life somewhere between that of vagabonds and Jungle savages. At a loss for a safe haven where they could reside, the tribe of gnomes headed slowly to the north east. Rumors of a safe haven in the Screaming Jungle called to them and they headed to the north of that great expanse.
The gnomes tried for several years to find the legendary city and in it a safehaven but this whole time the Serpentfolk expanded their empire ever nearer. As time went by without being able to find a safe place to go a sense of despair began to take root in the community. The bleaching grew more and more prevalent among its members with each day that passed.
Eventually small groups of gnomes began breaking off from the tribe. A couple families at a time the gnomes began to head north for passes through the shattered range and into Nex where rumor had it a large community of gnomes lived in alongside the men of that realm. As the community dwindled and familes moved away, Zagatrill refused to leave the rest of the tribe behind. His duty to the community, his need to protect those who still remained was too strong to allow him to move on as others did.
Though she was among the last to leave, eventually even Laya left the tribe and headed north for a safer land. Still Zagatrill refused to move on while any shred of the tribe he loved remained behind in their jungle home. In the end he was left with only a small handful of individuals, those to far taken by the bleaching to gather the energy or motivation to take yet another long journey.
For five more long years Zagatrill defended those who had been left behind. He fought off the Eloko, apes, and serpents alike, moving his tribe when a foe to great to fight came near. All the while he watched as the jungle he had loved turned darker by the day. Slowly those with Zagatrill succumbed to the bleaching. One by one they passed away until inevitably, after just over 5 years, Zagatrill was left alone all of his charges gone and his once beloved home a dangerous and twisted place.
With nothing to hold onto anymore Zagatrill turned and followed in the footsteps of the others who had left before. Making his way alone through the jungle Zagatrill barely survived. By the time he stumbled into Kibwe he was sickened, malnourished, covered in bruises and blood, and grinning like a mad man. He was also vivid, his skin hair and eyes glowed with an intensity of color rarely found in gnomes more than a decade old. While trekking through the jungle alone had nearly killed him it had also provided a wealth of experiences and sensations that would be hard to surpass.
In Kibwe, Zagatrill hired on with a caravan headed east. The hostile mountains and deserts held promise of a thousand thousand new things to see and try and just maybe beyond them he would find the remnants of his tribe, Laya, and, perhaps, a way to return his jungle to the naturally horribly dangerous paradise that it had been in his childhood.

Sasbrek |

Ok, the fluff part of Sasbrek, my kobold sorcerer, is ready in the profile. Hope it meets all your requests.
for the Drawback, I'm going with either Oppressive Expectations (which goes nicely with his background) or Pride (which fits with any kobold).
For the story feat I'm really undecided. Apotheosis could be reworked with a Great Wyrm instead of a god; but I'm also looking at Shamed.
The crunch I'm having trouble with. I was going to make him a crossblooded kobold/draconic - it makes a lot of sense story-wise - but the loss of one spell known is huge at such a low level, and kobolds aren't that strong to begin with.
I'll keep fiddling with it until I find the perfect build, any feedback is welcome from anyone, not only the GM.

I'd love to hear suggestions and criticisms from other players as well as the DM. My applications sometimes go the distance without comment as I try to answer questions as thoroughly as possible. No one grows without feedback and I'd love to get some on the character, my writing, or both.
My character packet is finally finished and posted. You can find it here. I have a lot of fun making these characters but this is going to have to be my last submission for the term. While the actual games take about half an hour to play each day, I think I've put about a dozen hours each into the last five or so I've submitted. With the term having started, I simply don't have that kind of time.
Alhandra is a very unusual character and while I have changed cosmetic aspects of some of her features, she is RAW as far as I can tell when it comes to the rules themselves.
She is a tattooed pesh addict cultist in training who is rapidly going insane. All of this is explained in her packet. As a straight-laced, male, second year medical student, there are aspects of her character I don't really plan to roleplay. Specifically, I have no real interest in roleplaying romance between characters or her drug addiction. While the latter is an important part of her character, addiction is a curse many must deal with and I would hate to make light of it in a game.
I will now post on the gameplay side although I can't promise that I'll have time to read the entire thread today. I will definitely do so before play begins however.
PS: I will get a stat block up in her alias if the character is selected. I don't think stats will determine if this character is selected or not and honestly, my wife has threatened to kill me if I don't get to studying immediately.

It was this harsh and highly competitive environment that he was thrust into. From an early age it was apparent he would not become one of the muscle-bound warriors 'blessed' by Angazhan with mouth-frothing strength, and though he proved smarter than many of his 'siblings' (the young of the tribe being raised communally) his agility and keen vision called him out as a future sentry. Such a position could only be realized however, by evading the many hazards and dangerous inhabitants of the savage community on which their tribe relied.
The mortality rate was high, but from the two dozen which had been born in the same year as him, himself and four of his siblings survived to 'adulthood', obtaining positions that provided them some measure of protection from the predations of the Charau-ka, Girallons, and other intelligent simians. Gi'chak obtained a position as a treetop sentry, and occasional messenger, leaping nimbly through the trees; twin sisters Os'ny and En-ril were gifted with powers of nature and the elements and Theria was adept with animals, and grew knowledgeable about plants. It was only his brother, the youngest Tin-ver who was given the blessing of Angazhan and tended to drool excessively.
While it was still a harsh and unforgiving life it was one that Gi'chak could--and to a degree did--enjoy for several years. It was only in 4709 with the resurrection of Ydersius that his life was disturbed. Miraculously the siblings yet remained alive, and had become something of an elite unit, at least amongst the lesser tiers of Usaro. When the Gorilla King received news of the approaching serpentfolk army the kingdom was thrown into preparations for war, and Gi'chak and his family were sent forward as advanced scouts.
Their first meeting with the serpentfolk was short and brutal. They managed to observe the approach from above for a few hours before they were discovered. Os'ny's warning—something about a scry whatever that was—came mere moments before their perch came under fire from spears and magic. They fell back as best they could, retaliating and exacting a toll from the snake-men before they were forced to turn tail completely as En-ril fell. Without her healing might they could not stand before the power brought to bear upon them, and worse than that they found their retreat blocked. With Tin-ver carrying En-ril they were forced eastward. Theria did her best to heal her sister, but found her efforts hampered as the serpentfolk harried them, driving them from the familiar lands around Usaro.
More than a week later and hundreds of miles from Usaro the serpents finally seemed to lose interest and the exhausted monkey goblins gratefully collapsed. It was there, in a ramshackle camp with little food and less supplies that they were discovered by dwarven explorer, Smafl Darkclay. Needless to say they were less than welcoming, but exhausted and weak as they were they posed no real threat and Smafl seemed uninterested in violence. After some tense minutes they parted ways, having traded knowledge of the serpentfolk for some information on a settlement further east known as Kibwe where they might be able to resupply themselves.
It took several days longer for the goblinoids to agree to risk the city. With very little knowledge of the world outside of Usaro they were wary of what to expect; nevertheless they cautiously made their way into the city, settling into the Straggleblock where they were able to carve out a small niche for themselves. A burgeoning awareness of the world outside brought more discussion, and in the days and indeed weeks that followed, as they restocked with whatever the could steal they came to an agreement to try and make it on their own. It was only when a battered, poorly maintained, and nearly non-functional revolver fell into their hands—Gi'chak's bow having been broken by a serpentfolk spell he had been seeking out a replacement weapon—that they recalled something that Smafl had said about a place called Alkenstar. With the other criminal elements of Straggleblock making it clear that the monkey goblins had overstayed their welcome they left the jungle city, following some vague directions to the city in the wastes.
Several months later they finally stumbled into the wastes and set about making a name for themselves. Offering their services as skilled mercenaries they actually started to make a reasonable profit and something of a name for themselves. They encountered Smafl again, and developed a cordial professional relationship. With his aid Gi'chak was able to discover the marvel of firearms; he replaced his bow as well, but it couldn't quite compare to the penetrating power of the revolver up close.
They tore up the wastes, taking jobs as guards, bounty hunters, whatever payed well enough to afford them some luxuries. It was not quite the same as the canopies of the jungles but there were enough benefits to keep them content where they were. There they mave have grown old and died (and spawned a new terror of ravenous monkey goblins upon the town of Alkenstar), but any plans for spawning and expanding their population (if indeed there were such plans, that sort of thing just tended to happen) were interrupted by one fateful trip. They were 3 days into a hunt for some mutants that had been harrassing caravans in the area when they were beset by a storm. Flashes of raw magic, errant bits of weather and a chaotic mishmash of colors and effects surrounded them and scattered them to the winds. Pain from dozens of small wounds, burns, cuts, and abrasions all conspired to overwelm the gunslinger, and the last thing he saw was his brother and sisters being torn apart, consumed, vanishing, before consciousness fled.
He awoke with a throat full of sand, half buried in a drift and began to claw and drag his way free of the heavy suffocating mass. He errupted from the side, hacking and retching up everything he'd every eaten, and looked up to find a nubmer of camels looking curiously at him. The others took off after he shot one of them and fed and drank it's blood. Fortune was with him and he proved to be only a couple days from a small settlement where he was able to purchase some supplies and orient himself. He made his way to Sothis and has spent the last several months replenishing what was damaged or lost in his relocation, before finally starting to head south again.
He's not sure how he'll get past the chaos in Katapesh, but he intends to return to the Mana Wastes and find out what happened to his family and bring them back if he can.

Happens to me occasionally too. Just drop out of the games that aren't fun. They're games, you're not obligated to play. If the DM wants to recruit more players there's always a pool here. It's taken me like a year to get a stable of games that are actually good/fun. Can't count the number I joined, they sucked so I quit after a month or two.

Hilde, I have to say, I was very impressed by the creativity of your application for VoV's WotR campaign, and I find Alhandra just as intriguing...not to mention being thoroughly impressed by your stunning packet.
You noted that playing an insane character hadn't worked out well in a previous campaign, and that's the main question I have about Alhandra. I can see her being a fascinating character to explore -- and one I'd enjoy reading a short story about -- but I can't tell if I see her as a member of a party yet. I'm intrigued by your mention of another player who played it well. How do and don't you see her being part of a party? (I guess one advantage of a roleplayed recruitment is it'll give you a chance to show it. Looking forward to seeing more!)

- Alhandra - |

One question about Alhandras robes: But they are sliding over the ground, right? To hide the tail/tentacles?
Yes, the robes drag in the front by 2-3 inches and almost form a train of 6-7 inches in the back. Sometimes her robes barely brush the ground however, as she forgets how tall she is supposed to be and stands more upright on her tentacles.

- Alhandra - |

The player I am molding my posts after talks to himself, his familiar, our opponents and numerous delusions at the same time and as if all of them were real. His use of larger and smaller type helps him add afterthoughts as both he and a bleached gnome in the group mutter their true thoughts between what they mean for you to hear. I went looking for one post that really showed how they do it and there isn't one as it's more of a gradual thing.
As to how she will fit into a party, that really depends on the party. Alhandra has been chasing Dr. Pinkerton since Ulastav and so plans to stick to him for the immediate future. This will put her in any party by default. However, the question you are probably asking is why would she care about companions? There are a few methods I plan to employ for that.
She will probably mistake some party members as people from her past and deal with them as she did then. She will probably align with others, particularly arcane casters and summoners as they have similar interests. When all else fails, she will hallucinate receiving instructions from the Great Old Ones and tag along while she follows them.
If the campaign moves in the direction it appears to be going however, being a part of a group will be very simple. Alhandra needs to go plane hopping and it is for this reason that she has followed Dr. Pinkerton. Another question that bears asking is, "Once with the party, will Alhandra be working with them or against them?" I think this is a valid way to play as long as it's not taken to far. But then, how she reacts to the group's goals really depends on what they are.

Quick question before I begin gathering something together. It'll affect the path I take with my submission.
Would you allow me to overlook the age/race prereq on Breadth of Experience? I could take the adopted trait for no other reason than to allow this to flavorfully make sense. Once I know, I think I know what I'll do.
EDIT: And it's to be a half-elf. Nothing too special or silly.

No I'm going to have to keep it as is - though I'll let you pick another long-lived race in place of the gnome/elf/dwarf, as things like Dhampir weren't around when this feat was created. The 100+ Years thing still stands, though.
----
Also, to everyone else: Will be making a list of all applicants and making comments on everyone's characters very shortly! Busy weekend was busy.. and I look forward to reading all the new posts in the gameplay thread!

DM Crustypeanut |

A very big dot for this one - I have heard and read a lot ov good things about The Ruins of Pathfinder. I am currently on vacations so my submission will only be done probably sometime during next weekend.
I tend to fall into Guardian characters, and the guy in this alias, was done exactly with this perspective in mind, both mechanically and in background. I will probably go forward with him and ask you also to take a look at his background.
On the other hand, I have been trying to steer somewhat away from the martial obsession, and go for full support, to that effect I would play an Oracle of Life.
Lets stick to Rekbarok here for the time being though :D
His crunch is not at the correct level, but it can give you an idea of the intended progress.
Let me know your thoughts.
I could definitely see the character working! Just get 'em to the correct crunch level if you would.

I don't think I missed anyone with a character submission yet, though I know a few of you have some in the works still, but without a character name or whatnot. Let me know if I missed anyone and I'll update this.
I also didn't post my friend's Gnoll Bard character - its.. still in the works as well, but likely to be going Marshall or Trickster.

Meet Jack McAllaster! Originally Half-Elf, now Elf Rogue!
Weight: 155 lbs
Hair: Light Brown
Eyes: Green
Jack is not much taller than the average man, nor is he much stockier. Honestly, aside from being somewhat more toned, he isn't particularly remarkable in the way of body-build. He's still a handsome man, though. He has a square chin, thin and pointed nose, and very defined facial features. If it weren't for his pointed ears and slighter features, you'd almost mistaken him for a human, or half-elf at the very least.
As Jack grew into school age, his less than muscular build paired with his habit of humiliating his peers intellectually made him the target of much bullying. While Jack couldn’t find a way to fight back, he became adept at avoiding the hits thrown at him. He wasn’t incredible in even these aspects, but his uncanny ability to predict the movements of others and understand them even better than the person making them made dealing with his peers a little easier.
As Jack aged into his teenage-elf years, he slowly gained the respect of many of his peers. The bullying slowed and he began to be recognized for his raw intellect, though it was by this time that his lessons bored him to the point of not caring. Instead, he practiced with the rapier. His quick thinking and ability to fool others easily made up for his less-than-warrior-like strength, instead focusing his abilities on speed and reflexes. Eventually, it became his pride and joy.
It was at about this point that Jack gave up on his lessons altogether, which won the heavy disappointment of his family who simply couldn’t understand Jack’s disinterest. When Jack turned eighteen, he left his parent’s residence to make it on his own. He would make money with the many skills and the vast knowledge he had picked up throughout his years and prove that he was some sort of exception to the rules his parents had laid out for him. He used what money he had saved in that time to buy a chess board, a rapier, and some adventuring gear with nothing more than a shirt of chainmail that had been passed down to him from his father’s elven side, but not before spending a month or two traveling from place to place looking for a place to start his scheme. One such scheme involved a particularly embarrassing trek in the desert, but Jack doesn't like talking about that particular adventure.
Even after this, though, Jack itched for more…
