Round Surprise, Initiative=07 (always last)
Gulping at seeing the carnage, Dorin casts Mage Armor on himself, seeing the aura on Zees with the last of his Detect Magic. "I think we found more goblins." he whispered to Gar and Danaris. He mentally steeled himself for casting either Ray of Frost or Heavenly Fire, whichever was more needed. Dorin wished he had a spell to add more people to the fight, like a dog or falcon, something more than his Unseen Servant that he used for turning spits and sweeping floors.

Surprise Round - Initiative 19
OOC:I'm unclear about the layout. The south half of the room is furnances (orange squares?) surround by bricks (gray squares?) and the north half of the room is tables (red squares?). I assume the furnaces and tables provide cover.
Zees will creep forward to peek in next to Malcolm. Upon seeing the dozen goblins he will step back to Z7 to wait for the sword/axe/spear wall of companions to move forward.
OOC: Grumble. I hate wasted surprise rounds.

Kast Phaer |

Are you sure you don't want to send me your email address, Malc? That way I can also help make sure you get the maps? My email address is in my main profile if you want to send there.
p.s. Kast wants battle, not me. I can't control him. :)

Danaris Krupt |

Don't forget that I cast bless on us before opening the door.
Seeing the goblins, Danaris cringes, his worst fears confirmed. "Erastil give us your aid," Danaris prays as he ventures into the room and fires an arrow at the nearest filthy beast.
Danaris moves to W6 and fires an arrow at goblin in T6
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Damaage: 1d8 ⇒ 5

Malcolm Cavendish |

Got it! Thanks Kast! Danaris did the bless before initiative, he is ok with a move or standard here, but not both.

LS DAM: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

Danaris Krupt |

Darn. See. Not so good at rules. But learning. I hoped to cast the bless before we opened the doors, starting the surprise round, but if Robin rules that it happens during initiative, I can live with that.
Danaris moves to W6, planning on either following the melee fighters or to move around the orange thing and get a clearer shot at some goblins.

'Gar' Duncrick |

Gar will move into the factory at a speed of 20', not much else he can do. He will occupy a space left by the previous party members.
Are the brown squares work tables? Space for a Goblin or even a Dwarf to move under comfortably?

robin |
The gray squares are indeed bricks , the orange ones the furnaces
and the brown squares are tables . they are not high enough to stand or fight under but one could jump on them or even move (at double cost) under them
Malc normally you can only charge in a straught line but since there are only corners blocking your progression ? I will allow your move
Danaris and Kast you both want to move to W6 so I moved Danaris to V6 (the table do not block fire) and Kast to W6 if that's ok with you

Zees |

Round 1 - Initiative 19
Zees grins as all those with big sharp objects head forward into the room and nothing goes boom. Zees follows and goes to W8. He then casts grease (DC 18 Reflex save) on the 10' square of T4, T5, U4, U5.

Kast Phaer |

Malc, for what it's worth, definitely agree with Robin about needing to charge in straight line w/o obstructions. If you can find definitive rules to the contrary, I am open to seeing them, but I do not think they exist.
Kast smiles as Zees lays down the 'slime'. Kast has fallen on his buttocks more times than he cares to remember...good to see that Zees' penchant for mockery serves other purposes.

Danaris Krupt |

Round 1 - Initiative 17
As the goblin skitters across the work table at him, Danaris gasps, dreading the inevitable blow. "Erastil protect me," Danaris mutters as, heedless of the consequences, he draws his bow and fires.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

I guess that this is my payback for bending the charge rules...lol! Thanks all for your input. I am definitely going to comb the forum threads for clarification. I just thought you needed line of sight, the last ten feet straight at the target, and not permitted through obstacles, allies or difficult terrain.

Kast Phaer |

Kast will thrust at the gobbo in V4:
1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 1 = 8 to hit;

Map round 2

Kast Phaer |

Robin: You had the right goblins roll for the grease, but then put the grease on the wrong spot on the map (5-6 instead of 4-5). Malcolm shouldn't be in the grease.
Right, that was confusing me too. In addition, if any gobbo is standing up in the grease, Kast should have an AoO before they beat up on Danaris. Is there a way to reverse time?

Zees |

Round 2 Initiative 19
(A possible rewrite of the goblins' last turn won't affect my actions)
Zees is happy to see his grease spell mostly work and tries to daze G2 in square V5 (DC 15 Will) while urging Danaris to withdraw behind the solid line of Malcolm, Gar, and Kast with his longspear who can reach all the goblins on the table.
"Move back here with your bow, Danaris!"

Danaris Krupt |

That's totally sound advice, Zees. I would've done that last turn, but I have a rules question. The rules say that I can't end a move action in a square occupied by someone else. So can I five foot drop back into Kast's space and then continue to move? That's the only way to avoid attacks of opportunity right? By my understanding, Robin placed me so that I'm pinned down, unable to move without taking any attacks of opportunity. I thought the table was a furnace . . . sigh.

Malcolm Cavendish |

@Robin: Gotcha Zees, I will retro the damage done to me on the AoO that the Goblin took while I was trying to stand.
@Danaris: You could consider a full withdrawal. It would prohibit other actions this turn, but would also not give AoO's to the Goblins, and you could get out of there.

Danaris Krupt |

Okay, reading the rules a bit more, it looks like I can withdraw from the square I am in without taking any attacks of opportunity and then as I move again G2 would get an attack of opportunity. That seems like the wisest course of action. I'll wait until we untangle the start of this round before going. Sorry for cluttering up the thread with my rules cluelessness.

Kast Phaer |

I'll give you my input as an experienced judge, but recognize that robin's ruling is the one that matters in this game. Assuming the situation is as stands, your options are:
Option #1: Full round withdraw action. Your first 5' of movement will not draw an AoO...so your movement from W5 to W6 won't draw AoOs from G1 & G3. However, G2 would get a swing at you when you moved from W6 to W7. Using withdraw, you can move twice your speed (aka double move).
Option #2: Acrobatics/Tumbling...doesn't have to be trained, but you would roll a d20 +/- your acrobatics against the CMD of the Gobbos (not too high, usually) to avoid their AoOs. For each gobbo beyond the first, the CMD you need to beat goes up by 2. Only works if you're in light armor/light load.
Option #3: Combine #1 and #2. Withdraw action, then make an Acrobatics check moving from W6 to W7 (costs double movement). Maybe you'll get lucky and avoid a blow...since you'll have plenty of movement afterwards, not a bad option.

I must be blind because I can't find a link to the new map in Robin's post. Yet everyone is referring to Goblins which seem to be numbered? Can someone point me in the right direction please. Thanks.

Last two lines of robin's last post. Map.

'Gar' Duncrick |

Thanks Kast, I got it from your post. But its odd that I still can't find it even with your directions. Robin's last post started with "Zee Cast his Spell..." and ends with "Your turn to act."
*EDIT:Weird. As soon as I previewed this message, Robin's Map callout is now visible in his original post...when it hasn't been there for the last 3 hours. Very Strange.
**EDIT EDIT: It disappeared again as soon as I posted the completed message, but of course is there again as I type this....frustrating, but at least I know what to look for now.

Danaris Krupt |

I didn't see the daze there. Makes my retreat much more tenable.
Round 2 Initiative 17
Seeing the horde of goblins creeping over the tables at him, Danaris realizes the jeopardy into which he has placed himself and prepares to meet Erastil. As he closes his eyes, bracing for the goblins' blows, he hears Zees frantic shouts. Danaris recovers his wits briefly enough to flee behind Kast and the rest of the warriors, trying to avoid any of the eager little beasts with their eager little blades.
