Zees miss narrowly the mounted goblin ....
The mounted goblin first makes his mount attack Malcolm
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 191d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Seeing that the Goblin bite is not enough to bring down the hated longshanks which has been the only one to hurt him so far , he then strikes Malcolm and then move to J9

Round 06, Initiative=05, Map=Thedogfightround5.xls because I can't download the other map

Stats-Temp Effects:

HP=4/7 points, AC=13 (touch 13, flat-footed 10), no armor, no weapons, speed=30 ft.
Fort=+1, Ref=+3, Will=+3
Spells: inf/3 for 0th/1st; Acid Splash is 1/1; Heavenly Fire is 4/6

Dorin hears goblin shrieking behind him, as well as Zees, Kast, and Malcolm shouting, but all his attention is on the goblin in front of him (Gobin #5), who, amazingly, runs up to swipe at Danaris again. Oh yeah, get closer, you little runt. Dorin thinks to himself. I don't even have to move to aim now.

Action: "Ray of Frost, goblin!" Dorin sneered, still pointing with his outstretched right arm. The blue beam hit the gobin's green-brown hide. (Dorin is at M7; Goblin #5 is 10 feet away.)

Ranged Touch Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
Damage: 1d3 ⇒ 3 points

"I got him, Mr. Gar! I got him!" Dorin shouts. Silence from the dwarf's position behind him is his only answer. "...Mr. Gar?"

Future actions:

Round 6: If that goblin's still up, then I'm amazed but he's getting the frozen treatment again. Otherwise, Perception check to see Gar and Goblin #1.

Edit: Ok, so Dorin is happy he actually hit 3 times in a row on the same goblin, rather than miss all over the place like the first fight.

In point of fact , he is still upright even if he is a little woozy on his feet ...

Glancing at Kast, Luck stealer. Oh well, he needed something to raise his spirits. "Well struck Malcolm! Nice job Kast! Looks like you remembered how to be a student and learn. I bet Gar would appreciate you showing off your kinder and gentler side now. Then you can use those big muscles to drag the goblins away so Danaris can heal the lot of you before you end up with some gnarly scars."

Assuming we are out of initiative, Zees is unhurt and has no healing abilities. Hoping someone else will tend to Gar, Zees will begin to loot the goblins for anything useful, at a minimum grabbing the bow and arrows for Danaris.

With that final enemy vanquished, Kast drops to his knees and again empties his stomach on the battlefield. Broken and tired, his knee throbbing, nothing but dry heaves and hacks leave Kast's throat.

Gently wrenching the goblin off his spear, Kast uses it to support himself as he tries to stand again.

Surveying the battlefield, Kast feels both sick and proud at his defense of Sandpoint, and realizes that the danger might not be over. He might be called again.

Limping over to Gar, Kast tries to imagine a perfect and healthy Gar in his mind, then, with a touch, overlaps that image with Gar himself.

Just as the blue beam hits the goblin, causing a patch of its' dirty skin to frost over, Kast lunges with his longspear and catches the goblin dead-center, skewering it a full foot up the shaft. The green-skinned goblin gives a death rattle, looking surprised at the haft through its' chest. Kast breathes hard, then he throws up in the corner of the town road. The mounted goblin and its' ratlike mount were taken care of in a similar fashion by the town guard Malcolm.

Feeling queasy himself, the jubilant Dorin starts to say "We did it! I did it! Did you...see...me..." His enthusiasm dies off as he sees the adults congratulating themselves, even helping up the newly-healed dwarf from the dusty road. I could have saved Mr. Gar. I used to be the special one, the 'chosen one' of the caravan. Dorin thinks sourly, turning away. Even the other youth, Zees, has his full attention on the goblin bodies, kicking one over and kneeling down to paw through its' coverings.

Dorin turns, looking at the carnage in the street, the man at the White Deer Inn just now recovering from the rat-dog attack that killed the mastiff protecting him. Dorin sees the bodies of the goblins, and lifts a hand. "Ray of Frost, Ray of Frost, Ray of Frost." the boy mumbles multiple times, ensuring the corpses are frozen solid to the ground. Malcolm addresses Aldren Foxglove, I do remember you, good sir. I am truly sorry that you were ambushed, and I am glad that we were able to deal with this threat before any further loss of life resulted. We will definitely return tomorrow to visit when things calm down. I am certain that we are needed back at the Cathedral, and we must make sure that there are no other threats throughout the town.

Malcolm returns his attention to the remainder of the group, Again, you all have demonstrated your courage and skill in the face of adversity. Sandpoint can stand proud of your accomplishments. I am beginning to think that our little group, while quite diverse, works well together in the face of danger. Well done, all!

Male Human (Chelaxian) Cleric 2

Indeed, we are needed back at the cathedral. My blessings are nearly exhausted, but there still may be some folks who need my help. I may be no good in a fight, but I can provide comfort and aid.

Danaris turns to go. He looks haggard, harrowed by the experience. He turns back to others. You all did well. Sandpoint was blessed to have protectors such as you. Danaris walks to the cathedral, haunted, and wincing from his wounds.

Male Human (Chelaxian) Cleric 2

I am glad I could be of some assistance Malcolm. You were astonishing. Abadar's will flowed through, especially at the end, when we needed it most. But, I am afraid I am not cut out for all of this violence. I'm glad that the town can count on you, Kast, that dwarf, and those two lads. But, me, I am content to take care of my people.

Male Human (Varisian) Paladin/9 Warrior of the Holy Light/HP: 90/93/AC: 21(22)/CMB: 15/CMD: 27/Init: 2/Perc: 7

Thank you Danaris, but have you considered that the best way to serve the people of Sandpoint would be to add your not so insignificant skills to the group of those protecting them like you did today, violence, or not?

Robin:

I was thinking of changing my MW LS for a MW Bastard Sword and taking the Exotic Weapon Proficiency feat instead of Weapon Focus LS. I will pay the difference in gold, of course. This will give me a -1 on ATT Bonus, but +2 potential damage. Can I do this?I will understand if you do not allow it.

Zees finishes looting the goblins with a confused look. Where's their treasure? They're supposed to have treasure right? And potions and scrolls and mysterious orders written in code.

Zees greets Foxglove and thanks him for helping--even if it was late and didn't amount to anything. "I look forward to seeing you tomorrow, but for now we must head for the cathederal and hopefully meeting with the town leaders."

Zees joins the party and begins to daydream about what treasures they might receive as gratitude from the obviously rich man.

Hearing the kind words of Mr. Foxglove, Kast thinks it's going to be a long day until tomorrow.

Know (local): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11 on Foxglove.

Looking around, Kast tries to think what a real soldier would do...probably scout for more enemies. Or figure out how the gobbos got inside the town. Or make sure there were no gobbos hiding. Then, probably begin to carry the dead either to a pyre for burning or the cathedral.

"Zees! Good work...let's see what kind of loot those gobbos have before we find a place to put their bodies."

"Gar, Malc. That was a bit different than our sparring, eh? But made all our training worth it. Suppose we should circle the town and try to find out if they are all gone for sure and how they got in?"

To Dorin: "You there! Good thinking!! By freezing the gobbos, you'll keep them from smelling and rotting and make them easier for us to move! Keep it up!"

"Gar! Does the militia have the power to commandeer a wagon? We could use one right about now."

"Malc. What do we do with these bodies? I mean, once Zees is done going through their pockets."

"Danaris, thanks again for the healing. I feel better and we have so much to do."

Yes, Kast...good work back there. I think that returning to the Cathedral will answer a great many of our questions. As for the dead, I am sure that the town leaders will have something to say regarding their disposal. I suggest we head back there first to report what we have done and where we did it. It will give us some notion of what went on in the other parts of town too.

That or someone who could trick them into it. Either way, some evil genius is manipulating things. Or, maybe they're all fleeing their homelands because of some great evil. Or, someone's discovered what a great wizard I'll be someday, but they don't know exactly who I am, so they decided to destroy the town. It's just like (blah, blah, blah, blah....)"

Malcolm , no problem , you can change to a Bastard Sword

Treasure Goblin Rhyme
A skull of Mice
A packet of Rice
To go with Lice
Treasure ! Nice !

The milicia are not the guard . Think of them as being an army reservist . So no special privilege .
Some information about garbage disposal in town . Sandpoint pay an fat heavily tattoed half-orc named Gorvi as a dungsweeper . He and some vagrants he pays a pittance gather all the garbage near the cliff called Junker's way and then push it over to let fall on the beach below … Most of it is then taken by the sea with the tide but needless to see , the north beach is not a romantic place to bring a girlfriend …
For your information , James Jacobs was inspired by a real practice in his hometown around 1900

You go back to the cathedral which Father Zantus has organised as a kind of hospital for those wounded in the battle . Sadly , some people have died but none of your families were injured .
Over the next minutes , a picture of what happened become clearer . While most people run to hide , Sheriff Belor with some help did go south and saved the Curious Goblin from some goblin offended by its sign of a Goblin READING ! Daviren Hosk ran to his GoblinSquash stables just in time to add some more to his collection of goblin ears . Meanwhile some people at the cathedral found enough weapons to organize themselves and run donw the goblins still near the cathedral square with the help of the two armed guards who were present . The rest of the day is passed with people recounting to themselves what they did during the attack or mourning their dead.. Pretty soon , it's obvious that YOU were the ones who killed the most goblins , most of the others were happy to just make them run away .
The consecration of the cathedral is done soberly with thanks given to the gods that the attack did not claim more victims

And now the moment some of you have asking for : 450 xp each

Lol.

Kast is somewhat relieved that he doesn't need to clean up all the goblin bodies, but is still concerned about where the goblins came from.

If he has a chance to talk to Sheriff Belor, Kast will inquire if there is anything he (or we, if any of you want to help), can do to track down the entry points of the goblins.

Also, is there someone in town who might have more information on the goblins? I clearly don't know enough, and Zees thinks this is all a paranoid plot to get him...

Failing that, Kast will assist Danaris with whatever needs to be done with the hospital, but would prefer to be standing guard or finding out if there are more around.

Did I get the small goblin lance/horsechopper?

Kast, if you want it, I vote you can have it.
Danaris spends the next few hours, providing aid to those who need it and as much advice and comfort as he can.

While he is helping people, Danaris listens to their stories, both for the sake of listening and to see if he can pick up any additional information about the attacks.

Warning : you would get a -2 to hit using it

Tis a fine trophy...I seek not to attack with it. Kast might have it mounted...but will definitely use it tonight when describing the valor of Malc and Danaris, enacting the 'female' goblin's attempts to take down the Erastil cleric and the Abadaran.

Later tonight, when things are over and one, Kast will, in fact, use the horsechopper to describe his tale wherever such events are happening.

To tell the tale: Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10

I'm not sure I'm doing the tale justice, but the tale will be told!

Attacking air with the horsechopper during the performance (to see if it breaks), enacting the fight as best I can remember:

1d20 - 2 ⇒ (19) - 2 = 17 "..and 3 times did the goblin rider attack brave Sir Malcolm...once... "
1d20 - 2 ⇒ (10) - 2 = 8 "...twice..."
1d20 - 2 ⇒ (17) - 2 = 15 "...and thrice again before the brave Sir Malcolm smote her yet again while our heroic Danaris distracted and bothered the goblin from flank..."
