'Gar' works at the Sandpoint Shipyard. Despite being a Dwarf, he has proven to be fleet of foot and fearless when it comes to working in high or dangerous positons. Never having worked a mine, he is extremely adept with woodworking tools.
His family were refuges from a raid of Giants and Ogres on thier village in the hills. Sandpoint became a welcome respite. His father worked at making ropes and his mother wove canvas for sails, so Gar grew up in and around the harbor and fantasized about being on a ship one day.
He joined a fishing crew at a young age, but on the first trip they hooked a giant gar that attacked the boat in defense. The young dwarf was knocked overboard and swallowed. As the crew struggled to land the fish and recover their crewmate, the beast suddenly went limp. Once they hauled it one board, Gar emerged from its belly, having cut himself free, with his fishing knife and a healing potion in his hands. His knickname was born.
Gar does not go out to sea anymore, preferring to work on ships while they are on solid ground. But working on masts, spars and fitting rigging still gives him a taste of the thrill he dreamed about as a kid. A devoted citizen of Sandpoint, he would do anything to protect it, including taking up his favorite adze in its defense.
