Born to a poor farmer widow in the Sandpoint Hinterlands, Sebastian was already in the dregs of society, however it is much worse than that considering his Half-Orc heritage.

His mother was raped by a raiding band of Orcs who killed her husband and implanted the child that would grow up to become Sebastian. This unfortunate offspring was the largest burden this woman could ever handle, so as soon as the abomination was born he was sent to a local temple devoted to Abadar so that his heritage could be of some use to the populace.

It was there in the temple that he was trained to uphold the law, and when he was at the tender age of 13 he was sent to Sandpoint to serve as part of the city watch.

Preferring to stay out of the lime-light, Sebastian trained in the art of Archery so that attention would not be drawn to himself in the midst of battle, as many people already didn't like what he was.

He served for four years as a cleric of Abadar until he abandoned the cloth for a more martial lifestyle of upholding the peace and tranquility of Sandpoint.

Not long after he was appointed as a guard of the city watch, his mother approached him, having never truly met the poor lad, and introduced herself as his mother. The two caught up and Sebastian was understanding of her situation and forgave her for having orphaned him.

From his mother, Sebastian learned of an old debt that had never been paid back by one Daverin Hosk. Hosk sought aid from his mother's husband to eliminate a group of Goblins near Sandpoint. Now that he is dead, Hosk was willing to pay off the debt to his former ally's would-be foster son. Now Sebastian is the proud owner of a draft horse named Artemis.

so an update on the maps, I was trying to do some prep and I seem to be unable to pull the images of the maps out of my pdf, so we might be using excel spreadsheet maps. They are ugly but they do work.

That is unless my partner in crime is able to help me out.

I've got a monk (martial artist) in the works, as soon as I am done with the back-story and crunch I'll give this thread a post.

Well I should have looked up what a Divine Hunter was before I made my post. :/

Dark Archive

Name: Kor'sarro Khan
Race: Assimar
Class: Paladin, Divine Hunter

Spoiler:
char sheet: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ws0280wp5rit75r/Korsarro_Khan.htm
I will have to work out the equipment some more but most of it is done

Traits: Celestial Tracker and Monster Hunter

I would like to introduce Kor'sarro Khan, he is an Assimar (Angel Blooded) Divine Hunter. He originated from Magnimar. He was raised by his mother alone and never knew his father, when he was young his mother was murdered and he was placed in a foster home in Magnimar. When he was old enough and learned what happened to his mother he left the orphanage and started to learn how to hunt. This was also the time he started to follow the path of his Deity and picked up hunting. He was taken in by a Paladin who took him under his wing and teached him all. During his training it became apparent that he was more profecient with bow and arrow then sword and board. Due to this he became a Divine hunter in the service of Erastil.

In due time he has become more and more adept at hunting the monsters and he favors the evil / undead or magical ones due to his conviction to Erastil. Even though he is on his current path for Erastil in the back of his mind he is still looking for traces of the ones that murdered his mother. His path has taken him to the area around sandpoint where he learned there were festivities and he has decided to make a stop there to restock on his supplies before heading out again.

Kor'Sarro has made his way through Varisia and in his course for hunting the monsters and handing out justice in the name of Erastil he has caught the rumors of murder and mayhem in sandpoint and his curiosity has gotten the upper hand of him to make his way there and see what is going on. He feels that his skills as a tracker and hunter might be of help for the city. In his path of justice he will offer his services to the city after the festivities.

Kor'sarro is currently outfitted with a scale mail, covered by a flowing robe that covers his face. There are small symbols of Erastil on his chest and back. His weapon of choice is a Composite Longbow that he carries on his back, for self defence in melee he carries a short sword at his side. He would enter the city on his horse, an almost smug grin on his lips and golden colored eyes taking in his surroundings.

This should be it!

Mini, if its cool with you, I could adapt the Foehammer's backstory to fit a Cleric without channel to round out the party. Although that's only if the party needs me to. I'm flexible that way! ^^

MiniGM, about 3PP variants of standard classes: how do you feel about a ‘talented rogue’ (by Super Genius Games)? I have a half-ready concept for the skill role, but she uses the talent system to mix-and-match features, including a couple of Talented Monk ones.

Hello there i can throw my hat in the ring but i am currentlt on my way home from the Bahamas until Wed. The 17th

The character is all in the alias profile

Lantern Lodge

Mini - do you happen to have access to a full version of Acrobat? If so I can give you instructions for the maps. I also have to check, but I think Anniversary edition was one of the ones published after they started creating the standalone map files with layers you can turn on and off.

Character is in the profile, feel free to comment, criticize and advise.

I only have the free downloadable version. In fact I don't think I new there was another version.

Eryda-What archetype is a cleric without channels? As long as it is something Paizo no problem. If it is 3pp guide me to it so I can look

Sanpoint is out there.

@ Trace. I dont know I do not have access to that material. So I gotta say no.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Avan, I'd suggest you tie the character more into Golarion and especially Sandpoint. There is an arena in Magnimar although not for slaves and battles to the death. You probably need to go further afield, possibly Garund although then you'll have to explain how he gets all the way to Sandpoint. There might be something in Kaer Maga. I can check while I'll working on my backstory although that would be later tonight. I believe Riddleport also has an arena associated with the Pirate God Besmara although that would be more fights with sea creatures. There is also one now that I think of it in Westcrown in Cheliax. It's in the ruined part of the city. It's not quite as violent as the one you describe, but is closer to Sandpoint and there are Cheliax ties to Varisia (and slavery).

For any of you not super familiar with Golarion, there are a couple good resources
Pathfinder Wiki
Golariopedia

Thanks for the advice, help and links. I'll look through both sites and try to find a town with such an arena, but if you do find one please do inform me of it, even it is extremely far, I am sure I can find a believable way for my character to reach Sandpoint.

Grand Lodge

Its the Forgemaster!

No channel, but I get to inscribe runes that grant powers about 5 times a day. The runes last a round, unless I repeatedly inscribed the same rune on the same item. Also, I get 'Craft Magic Arms and Armor' at level 3. If you're cool with having the party supply their own magic items rather than buying them off stores, this will be the class.

It'll be up in an hour or so. Gonna roll stats for it now then.

Hello MiniGM,

Is a human oracle allowed?
If so i can adjust my alias oracle to sandpoint.

Cassandra Fortlage is a thief running amongst the darkness of Golarion. She gets by solely on the scraps she manages to scrounge from the more fortunate members of society, be it gold, jewels, art, or family heirlooms. However, her most prized quarry are items of arcane origin. Ever since she was a little girl she has had a fascination with magic, however she never had the support or resources to study it, so she sustained her curiosity by simply taking from wizards, witches, and sorceres whatever magic items weren't nailed down.

As a result of the dangerousness of her targets, she is always on the run from fear of these arcane spellcasters she has robbed.

Cassandra was born in the proud nation of Isger to an elf woman and human man, whose identities are unknown to her, as when Cassandra was very young her parents were sent off to fight in the Goblinblood Wars and both of them lost their lives in the hellish battles. So Cassandra was left on her own with no one to take care of her. As a result, he spent her whole life as a street urchin living off the scraps of society through charity or less honorable means.

Eventually, her time in Isger came to a close as the people of Elidir grew tired of her constant shenanigans and thievery, so she fled to Varisia. It was here that she met the people of the Sczarni family. She lived and moved with them, learning more skills to aid in her acquisition of magical devices. Soon enough her thievery got the entirety of her foster family in trouble with some local spellcasters and they were forced to flee. This led her to Sandpoint to seek out an old family friend by the name of Jubrayl Vhiski. And since then she's quietly inhabited Sandpoint.

What caused so much fuss that caused her whole family to flee? She managed to filch what she believes to be a Wand of Magic Missile from a pitiful Wizard that could barely cast Cantrips. She believes she's better off with it. (I took the Rich Parents trait to be able to afford the Wand, and purely changed the flavor text of the trait, if that's okay.)

Lo'sais, Elven Spellbinder

History::

An assistant wizard from Riddleport, Lo'sais (Los to his few friends), is a member of the Forlorn, elves who for one reason or another was abandoned to the "wilds". In Los's case, the fact he was ound in Riddleport proved to be a blessing in disguised for the Cyphermages.

In the Cyphermages, Los learned as much as he could about the Cyphergate, though while others had mere decades at best, Los had generations, or so he thought.

It was forty years ago that he met an orphan human girl on one of his trips to the Cyphergate that opened his heart. With time, she became his friend, confidant, assistant, partner, and, finally, lover. However, as time has shown, while elves can barely notice the ravages of time, humans will age and die before reaching a century.

After burying his wife three years ago, Los was in a deep depression, due to the recent infighting among the Order of Cyphers as well as realizing that the secrets of the Cyphergate were not revealing themselves. Recently, one of his old friends has told to get out of town, since Riddleport was not going to change and will probably kill him before he grows old. In addition, his old friend mentioned that he should head south, to a place called Sandpoint, where the open see and fresh breeze might freshen his mind once again.

Having recently arrived, Los is finding that sandpoint is more to his liking, especially with a new mystery in the Old Light of Sandpoint...

Appearance::

Like most elves, Lo'sais is a picture of any other elf; tall, thin, and with a slight wariness in the world, though that is slowly being released due to brighter surroundings. He keeps his long light brown hair tied in a ponytail so that it will not be in his way, and favor's durable archeologist clothes of dark greens, tans, and browns, tied off with a green harkami (belly warmer). Around his neck he keep an old pale green scarf that is a few shades lighter than his eyes (underneath is a gold chain with a locket, with a picture of his wife inside).

Personality::

Like most elves, time has not been good to Los. Having recently lost his wife, seeing more friends grow old and pass on, and the recent infighting in the Order, Los was taking a more depressed view of the world. Despite that, and with the help of old friends, Los is now exploring the world in an attempt to help him through a bleak time. While this does leave him with a distant view to life, he does take time to ask questions, his soft voice helping him in making inquiries to the Old Light of Sandpoint.

Before the death of his wife, Los had a warmer personality, seeking to have an understanding of the the various groups the Cyphermages deal with: visitors, businesses, and criminals, with Los being wary of the last group. He also had a habit of telling jokes to those willing to listen.

Fluff:

Shaia is a Varisian sojourner and devotee of Desna, the Great Dreamer. Long has she wandered the winding roads and wilds of Varisia with nought but the stars above to keep her company. Since childhood her dreams have guided her, walking through life in a daze, constantly on the move and drinking in each new experience to relive in the haven of her dreams. But as of late her dreams have grown restless. A great evil stirs over Varisia. She can hear the cry of the Goddess, calling her to awaken. It is a call to arms. She must be ready. The beast comes.

Shaia in a nutshell
Shaia is a druid who has spent most of her life travelling Varisia in a sort of permanent daydream. All her life she’s been preparing for something, learning to live and move and tap into something much greater than her. The only problem is, she doesn’t know what. She believes that her fate is in the hands of Desna, and that her dreams are Desna’s way of guiding her through life. She dreams of stars and the void and great beasts of the sky. She dreams of nature and sea and the winding roads of men. A festival of butterflies, an offering to the Goddess. Sandpoint. This is where she will find her destiny.

Extra bits
Shaia is a wild thing. She’s spent more nights beneath the stars than she has beneath a roof. She is a predator, a hunter, a creature of the night, and she is dangerous. In particular, she hunts and destroys aberrations and undead as well as others who pervert the natural order.

Backstory:

Eryda Stouthaft was no different from any other Stouthaft in the community. She was raised on Torag's teachings of protection, strategy, and creation. Her ability to create suits of armor rivaled those half a century older than her. Yet, throughout her adolescent years, something pulled and tugged at her consciousness, like a quiet murmuring at the back of her head.
This innate power manifested itself on a day as ordinary as any other - Eryda was working on a shield when the murmurings grew louder and louder, eventually bringing forth raw, foreign words of power from her mouth. She began to work herself into a different rhythm, enchanting the shield without knowing what she was doing. This strange occurrence spooked the headsmith who decided to call for clerical assistance.
When the Forgemasters of the Stouthaft cloister arrived, they found Eryda unconscious on the ground and a shield enhanced with magic.
The cloister recognized the abilities of a Forgemaster and decided to train her in their ways. No one had yet seen or heard the foreign words that the headsmith claimed to have witnessed. Not till Eryda began to learn how to call upon Torag's power like the other Forgemasters. Try as she might, reciting the words she were taught and the prayers she was required to offer, Eryda was never able to achieve what she was asked to do.
The Forgemasters began to wonder if she really had divinity in her. Frustrated, Eryda tried ever harder, refusing to give up. She was rewarded with empty head shakes and disappointed faces. When she was asked to leave the cloister, Eryda fled the community, ashamed and dejected. With only her hammer and light provisions, the would-be Forgemaster wandered the tunnels aimlessly, scavenging and hunting, living in caves. All the while, the murmuring steadily but slowly grew.
It happened when she was preparing to rest for the day. On a whim, she offered a lengthy, sincere prayer to Torag, praying to the hammer in place of the altar in the cloister. She went to bed, not noticing that the murmurings had stopped. In her sleep, Eryda learnt of a distant town, of a oracle, of a half-elf woman, of power, of divinity - she learnt that she had to go to Sandpoint.
That was almost three decades ago. Following her enlightening dream, Eryda had come to Sandpoint, seeking a old, wizened half-elf oracle. The oracle, who similarly worshiped Torag, told Eryda how she herself had been called to Sandpoint in the same fashion for what she assumed was the same purpose - to learn what a wordcaster was.
Today, Eryda resided in Sandpoint alone. She stands proudly in front of the newly built cathedral, having contributed to the erection of the building.

I was going to adapt the Foehammer story to make it so that The Forgemaster was the one who discovered the rune but as I was creating the character, I realized how much more interesting it would be to be to write a different story for a different class. And within the class, a different archetype. And within the archetype, a different mechanic.

And no, I was not going for an inception concept. I just like the wordcaster mechanic! Story turned out pretty good as well, at least to me. =)

neat

but I am going to say no to word casting.

MiniGM,

Here's her page: http://paizo.com/people/LillyHennett.
Tell me if anything crucial is missing.
Does equipment also have to be chosen from Rotrl manual?

As for the reason my oracle is arriving at sandpoint:

Spoiler:
Lilly works at a booth with a traveling fair. Since Lilly does some sort of PR (see talking to people and get them interested in the fair), she usually takes off a bit earlier from the fair so as to announce the coming at the next town/city. The fair was doing a route from Wartle to Magnimar, next stop; Sandpoint. She carries an enchanted trinket, which if charged enough can be used to relay a spoken message to the fair. But...power will be depleted for now upon 1 more use. Guess where she'll be needing to send the next message from...
As it is, the fair's had some major technical problems with their equipment, so they'll be stuck in Wartle, maybe even go more eastward due to some unique parts needing replacing. That leaves Lilly to arrive at Sandpoint.

Her motive for adventuring and fight evil:

Spoiler:
Her personality mentions she's a very curious person. Aside from that, she has some issues dating from her past, at which the fair's fortuneteller told her to seek out oracles, who could give insight on her own powers and problems. Read char background for those. The fair travels, but doesn't give much liberty to go find an oracle as when you travel with a group of adventure seekers does. Besides, the fair's stuck for a good while in Wartle, possibly having to go back east.
On fighting evil: she's a CG aligned character. Mentioned in her personality, she values her friends of the fair very much. They are practically her family. If an imminent danger is rising that precious family will be threatened. Given her past, she'd eagerly rise to protect her friends and family.

Needs more dwarves in this thread......

@ Shaia, might I ask how did she get her animal companion? Why a snake as a pet? Might be an interesting background story.
Did she also dream of the people she'd meet there?

@Chyrone You have described how Lilly came to Sandpoint and why, but would you care to explain why she'd go adventuring or defend Sandpoint from evil? What is her drive to embark on a quest?

@Mini sorry to bodge into your role to ask these questions.

Lantern Lodge

Think you're fine Fernus. I think Mini wants us all to ask questions of one another.

@Fernus, updated last post with what you mentioned.

Read her page background for the complete details on understanding those motives.

Her page's been updated on background to match the details mentioned in this thread.

@Magnus, maybe invite a few buds to fill those dwarf spots.

I do. There are things I will not think about and I am looking for a group that can talk and play together. Can critique each other and not be jerks.

@michaelane did you find anything in regards to gladiatorial arenas in Kaer Maga? I've done some reading on the cities of Golarion but couldn't find anything that resembles the arena's described in Avan's back-story, thanks again for the help, I really appreciate it.

Okay for chyrone do you want to have your character know mine. He has been a Varisan Harrower for over a hundred years perhaps the group he travels with has worked with your fair before?

Sup Boneyard hope you get in.

Dark Archive

let me know if anyone has any comments / questions / critique on the divine hunter :)

Magnus, that'd be great.
Meeting as friends tributes to the story no?
Might want to read the background and personality to get an idea of the character.

However, my char's been with the fair no more than 4 years.
Since the fair exists mainly of humans and elves, only those two languages are fully known, dwarf dialect is still to be learned. But int is 14, so it'll be no problem to pick up over time.

I'd reckon they traveled through the plains and forest outskirts. Which is at mid and south green zone of the map. Some of the city dots on the map are bordered with mountain regions. (I'm assuming they are towns, maybe they are dangerous dwellings, who knows...)
I dl'ed the rotrl short manual. The possible towns are named: Whistledown, Baslwief, Riddleport, Kaer Maga and Janderhoff.

Have a look at he map. What would you pick as best possible spot for a previous meeting?

Lol. Sorry. I have been posting heavily elsewhere as Magnus. I'm the preselected player Varin which is the name of my character in minis other game. I will be playing an elvish diviner. So languages are no problem at all. I intend to focus on knowledge skills and support casting with a bit of dmg when needed.

The snake was actually a former household pet 'liberated' from a Chelaxian exotic animal dealer. As for why I chose snake in particular, it's because I usually don't see them as companions.

And yeah, she'd indeed have dreamt of people she'd meet in Sandpoint, but we'd have to finalize a list of characters before I could go into any specifics.

@michaelane did you find anything in regards to gladiatorial arenas in Kaer Maga? I've done some reading on the cities of Golarion but couldn't find anything that resembles the arena's described in Avan's back-story, thanks again for the help, I really appreciate it.

Bit longer before I can dig into it. Just wrapped up a marathon PFS run at The Midnight Mirror. Fun but challenging mod btw. We had 3/5 characters go down at some point (some more than once), but made it out alive :)

The Chronicles of Markus:

The Chronicles of Markus
- Markus the Librarian, Diamond Lake, circa The Age of Worms

The scrolls were old, the language like none I'd seen... But that was the challenge. So, I set to work and a few weeks later, I'd translated them as best I could.

The tale is mind-bending, several days I'd spent re-translating thinking I'd gotten something wrong. It didn't make sense, but that was its beauty. The wonder of it.

A world at peril, a young wizard stiff in his ways. A bookworm, researcher and lover of history and ancient civilizations... I liked him immediately. I think that's what make me want to translate the scrolls. Kaer Maga, Sandpoint, Thassilon... how could I resist.

Whether he's a researcher or agent is hard to decipher, but he's sent from a university annex in Kaer Maga to monitor for evidence of a prophecy... one his superiors pieced together based on the youth's own rough seemingly disconnected findings.

Decades or research, which didn't seem to bother him as he's akin to an Elf from what I've gathered. At Sandpoint there's a festival and he meets up with a rag-tag bunch and they are enmeshed in the prophecy itself... taking with journey frought with danger and intrigue, mystery and power.

But, they fail.

And the prophecy comes to fruition, darkness befalls the land... nay, the world. All dead, except this one wizard who feels an unfathomable guilt, with the fate of his friends and the weight of the world upon his shoulders.

He holes up and finds a way to go back. Not where, but when. He goes back risking both life and sanity to meet with none other than himself (his younger past self), as he arrived at Sandpoint. He quickly befriends his innocent-self, as you can imagine they had much common ground.

He gives the advice of being true to oneself, of trusting one's friends and not being ruled by rules. Thinking freely.

It is all he (the older) can do to keep from bursting at the seams and telling him (the younger) everything he remembered or passing his journal, spellbook and gear onto the youth. But, no... they were close to succeeding his companions and him.

He felt he must not taint this fresh mind. Knowledge he would surely gain in time... He'd done it before. It was his soul that needed a little coaxing, his spirit.

Sethran the Elder paid for the meal that night. Sethran the Younger got more than food for his stomache, he'd gotten food for thought.

When they parted, Sethran the Elder had tears in his eyes knowing the ordeal before the younger Elf. As for Sethran the Younger, well he walked the grounds that would host the Swallowtail Festival the very next day.

He hopped upon a bench and up upon a table, whirling, jumping and ducking at mock knife-play... imagining a powerful crossbow, taking aim and dropping goblin, orc and giant. He wasn't in Sandpoint in his mind, he'd traveled back in time to ancient Thassilon. Good thing he knew the language.

Interesting that such a big prophecy started in a little town names Sandpoint on the continent of Varisia in a world called Golarion.

I am playing eyes of the ten as we speak

I'll be GMing that one before I get a chance to play it for sure. It was a rare chance for me to play today (instead of GM). I think the guys at the FLGS were in shock :)

Synergy-wise, liking the Druid & Divine Hunter.

Forgemaster is good, not thrilled about 20 speed (eh, Dwarves), but we can work around that. Like the Crafting.

Otherwise... Rogue? But, people have to set up the flanks... otherwise rogues get frustrated.

Hey Mini or Michael how do I register for pfs?

Avan, looks to me like there might be one there that hasn't been detailed yet. Slaves are definitely plentiful in Kaer Maga (think of a city like the Star Wars cantina). There's also a group called the Freemen devoted to freeing them. They mention gladiators a couple of times, most notably around a rough and tumble bar called Bloodbrothers.

Another interesting option that Kaer Maga pointed me toward is Urglin. Urglin is an orc city within Varisia, close to the Hold of Belkzen (which is the orc nation). You could definitely be a slave gladiator there. Most likely of Shoanti origin, but possibly also another ethnicity.

1. Click on the "Pathfinder Society" logo on the upper left of this page.

2. Click on the "Join the Pathfinder Society and create your character now!" (in the middle of the page)
3. Go to the Events page and look for a game near you.

I can't recall where you're from, but if you happen to be in the Chicago area or visit here, come visit my group. We play at Fair Game in the western suburbs. Signups at Warhorn.

Guess Noro is not well liked here, maybe if she busted a few heads.

Or not...

Plenty of places she can blend with others just not sure if anyone is interested

I'm gonna whip up a character tonight, as I've been wanting to PLAY an AP, rather than just GM all the time. Has the deadline been announced?

Dark Archive

No sadly S.C. near Greenville and I got it figured out. But if I'm ever up that way will totally come sit in on a game with you

Edward, poor Noro is cursed isn't she? I see her pop up almost every time there's a RotRL recruitment and I know I've seen her get into more than one. I'm sure its not you, but she has got to be the grand black widow of RotRL games if you're looking for another one for her :)
