While searching her body, "Forgive me. We'll make sure we retrieve your body so you can have a proper burial after we have continued exploring this crypt."

Desiree is wearing a silver pendant that would identify her as who she was. You cannot tell what it is, it is half of something. Other than that, she has her clothing and nothing else on her.

Seeing that his companions are being taken care of, Dalron picks up his unbroken arrows

"If I remember right the Yurling family came here with three members, Mother, Father, and child. So this maybe the mother, pointing to the woman on the ground so we are looking for the other two members of the family."

Looking around you notice that the first zombie that attacked you, the table to the left at the bottom of the stairs, is wearing similar clothing as Desiree is. If you search him you would find a similar silver pendant as Desiree is wearing, but the other half.

Barnabus pulls a flask from the satchel on his hip, twists off the top and takes a long pull of the whiskey contained therein.

"That settles the nerves...." he says, then offering the flask to his companions in case they want a pull as well.

"Whoever heard of a nice, well-tended graveyard infested with the undead? We should deduce that these are newly created undead as well from the evidence."

"Lanliss, I never studied the walking dead at university. Have you studied them? What creates them? I've heard stories of plagues that create flesh eating zombies, but I thought they were always just stories."

"Hmm... the father was turned into a zombie pretty quickly it appears. We might have a necromancer nearby."

Scarlet takes both parts of the pendants, from the father and mother to provide some proof they were found but dead. "Hopefully the child will still be alive."

Scarlet heads toward the path that leads away from this room and toward the unknown.

Barnabus casts his Light cantrip on the head of the battle axe he is carrying and follows the others as they start to explore south.

Dalon takes a quick look around to see if the child might be hiding somewhere nearby.

Dalron takes a look around the room. There are seven stone slabs still assembled, three of which bodies that are wrapped in burial shrouds that are torn and cut open as if they were looted of the valuables they may have been buried with.

Looking around the rest of the room Dalron finds 3 arrows which shafts are a reddish/orange shading. You also find three short bows on the remains of the skeletons along with 28 arrows.

A handful of the vaults along the wall have been broken open and the remains have been looted, the remaining vaults are sealed. Nothing else stands out in this section of the mausoleum.

New Map

Gathering together, the party opens the unlocked door to the east. As its open it reveals a dark hallway, but thankfully Barnabus’s Light spell illuminates it. The hall is ten feet wide by sixty feet long. Twenty five feet in reveals a stone door to the south with an engraving “Verduun and Gola Mikolos, and to the north of the hall is a statue of a human woman set in a niche. She is dressed in robes, and her arms and face are held upward as if towards the sky. On either side of her, fountains gurgle with what appears to be fresh water. This passage smells like rain. Fiftteen feet east of this reveals a hallway, that if investigated, starts to go to a lower level. This hallway ends with a stretch of twenty feet of vaults, many have been opened and apparently looted.

"There could still be danger in those vaults." Barnabus warns the others as we enter in hall.

"The vaults we are passing seem to be sealed up. Unless the seal is broken, they are probably safe. But if you want to investigate them later and discover what they might 'treasure' we can check on them. But I recommend doing that later, after we have eliminated any threats that might be in the tombs."

With that said, Scarlet starts to approach the hallway and search for traps. Especially around on and on the stone door going south. "I'll check for traps."

Perception (Traps): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16

I put the 28 arrows into the Loot spreadsheet. I put the red/orange shaft arrows separate encase there is something special about them.

Scarlet leads the way and begins searching for traps, none to be found.


Giving Scarlet a dirty look as he follows the 'burglar' down the hallway, "We arenae haur tae be lootin' anyone's crypts. noo ur later. let's bide focused an' fin' th' bairn."

Brunner nods toward the stone door to the south did you mean west? asking Scarlet to investigate. "Ah dornt loch th' idea ay leavin' an uninvestigated duir behin' us, let's check in haur afair we gang further."

If you look at the compass, the N is on the right side of the star, so south is on the left side of the map.

Dalron takes a second pass across the vaults, this time giving them a closer examination. As he gets to the most north/western vault in the original room he begins to hear the faint sound of a thud and scraping coming from within.

If you want to try and open it, there will need to be a Strength check to pry it open. Standard +2 bonus if you have a crowbar.


Realizing Dalron is double checking the vaults for any sign that the child could be hidden inside, Brunner calls back to Dalron, "Did ye fin' anythin' laddie? Ah hae a crowbar, if ye hink one ay them main hae bin opened an' 'en jammed shut."

Prying the vault open

As it starts to open " Tyra, is that you in there?, We are here to help."


Is that what you really want to do?

Dalron works hard to pry open the vault door, it truly is sealed tight. You aren’t sure if this was previously opened from before or not, but at this point are unable to tell from working it with the crowbar. It takes a few minutes of work, but eventually you do pry it open. With a loud thud the vault door hits the floor.

Looking out at you from the inside of the vault is a young girl covered in dirt. Her face has trail marks where the tears are still streaming down her face. She is trembling uncontrollably. She is holding a bone that has been scraped down past the joint as if she has been working to get free for hours.

In a flash she springs out of the vault and jumps up and clings to Dalron. Arms wrapped around his neck, legs wrapped around his waist. She buries her face in his chest and begins to sob. Between the tears and gasping for air, Tyra says something into Dalrons chest.

“Keep.... the scaled man.... away....”

Looking at her physical state, and where she was, you are surprised that she is still alive. You do believe that had you not gone back for a closer look, that she would have soon passed.

Just on the other side of the room
Lanliss inspects the angelic looking statue. There are no distinctive markings on it pointing to any specific deity. You believe that is in just an angel, maybe someone placed it here as a guardian angel to watch over their ancestors. Lanliss snaps out of it when he hears the loud thump of concrete hitting concrete behind him. Spinning around just in time to see a young girl jump from the vault and cling onto Dalron for dear life.

Looking back in time to see Darlon get assaulted by a young girl he turns around and rejoins Darlon. "Hmmm... good. The child is alive. We have a question though. We can't go forward with the child in tow."

Looking at the others, "Shall one of us get her to safety quickly and rejoin us while the rest of us hold fort until they return?"

"Even if we take the girl out of the tomb, we can't just send her back to town with Wolves and Wargs roaming about." Barnabus answers Scarlet.

"I'd say we have to take her all the way back and then return here to find the one that caused all this mayhem."

Lanliss sighs in relief when the girl springs out of the casket.

"I agree with Barnabus. The last battle was difficult for us, and a rest will do us better in combat than will our current strength with a child to protect."

"And I believe that all of the missing are accounted for, for better or worse, correct?" Lanliss asks anyone when the girl is out of earshot.

A sudden thought occurs to him.

"Child, how did you get into this casket with such a heavy lid?" the elf asks Tyra as he gently tries to take the sharpened bone from her hand.


Nodding his head in agreement, "Fur guid ur bad, we hae foond uir villagers. lit us return th' bairn tae 'er fowk. 'en come back an' fin' th' necromancer 'at caused thes."

"Hmmm...." Scarlet is thinking, which is not always a good idea since he can get in trouble when he thinks but he blurts out his idea.

"The rest of you take the girl back as quickly as possible and then return. I'll find a good spot to hide and keep an eye on anything that might come or go. Outside the tomb of course."

'Don't know that I like leaving just one behind, and the girl has taken a shine to Dalron.' Scowling slightly, he points toward the girl and asks, "Dalron, th' lassie has taken a likin' tae ye. Dae ye want tae ask 'er if she will gang wi' a one ay us?"

You aren’t sure her exact age but you can assume she’s around 10 years old. The arrows look similar to the ones you have, not exactly the same design...

As Tyra begins to hear more voices she looks up at the people who have gathered around her. She has a worried look come across her face. In an unsteady and tearful way she speaks up; “We came down... to visit papa. He died. When we came in the place was a mess. We heard noises, and they surprised us. They attacked my dad.... he fell down. One threw me into an open vault and sealed me in... I didn’t think anyone would come....” At that she breaks back down and cries into Dalrons chest.

At this point it is up to the party with what you want to do.

"I'm not crazy about splitting up the group, even if for just a few hours. Lanliss and myself will need time to rest and recover our magics."


Nodding his head in agreement with Barnabus, Brunner looks at Scarlet, "Barnabus is reit, if we rested we woods be better prepared. aam nae a body tae teel ye whit tae dae. but dae either ay ye want tae spend th' nicht haur aloyn."

He then turns and gestures at the crying little girl. "Also Dalron, efter aw she's bin ben ur ye gonnae force 'at lassie tae lit gang ay ye sae ye can bide?"

Seconded! Also, I just want to make sure that Lanliss was able to take the sharpened bone out of her hand. He has a nagging voice in the back of his head that maybe the little girl is newly turned and not yet recognizable as an undead. It seems weird to him that she'd still be alive and make it into the sarcophagus (despite her explanation). It's a case of hoping for the best but preparing for the worst.

In the action of her jumping out she tossed aside the bone, it is no longer in her hands. That was a missed description on my part.

Remembering that some of the kids that lived on the streets could be very conniving and downright evil sometimes, Scarlet focuses on the girl's actions and tears to see if they could possibly be fake.

Just not sure of age of girl, I was thinking around 13 years old or older. And I was thinking that she grabbed on to me because she did not know that others were in the room. If she has a bond to me, no I won't push her off. Just need the girls mind set.

Scarlet takes in what the girl is saying, and remembers the description of the girl, and comes to the end result that she is the daughter of the family and that she is not up to anything suspicious.

The girl isn’t “bonded” to you. You were the face of the person who rescued her from what she thought, over the time of her being in there, was going to be her death.

shaking her head, “No, it was me and my parents. I didn’t see anyone else. The people that did this were tall. Taller than you all, and looked like monsters. One even had scales for skin. Like a snake.” As she begins to calm down she loosens her grip on Dalron and eventually sits on his knee if able.

Letting her sit on his knee

So now I am thinking about 5 years old? Which make the whole death of parents thing that much harder.

"When the monsters talk did they sound like this....?" He says a few words in goblin.

"Do you have any other family back in town? Like an aunt or grandpa?"

Trying to avoid telling her that her parents are dead, but it will come up soon.

"You're right Lanliss, lets get this little one back to town where she will be safe."

Could one of you cover her mother and dad, so her last look of them is not that.

"Do you think you can walk back to town with us if I hold your hand, Tyra?"

Blocking her view and once the bodies are taken care of Dalron leads Tyra out.


Nodding in agreement with Lanliss, Brunner pauses for a moment when Dalron starts speaking Goblin. Looking around for the reason, 'Ah, good lad, he just doesn't want her to see the bodies.' He mentally notes that his friend is trying to keep the girl from seeing the bodies of her parents, then moving enough to place himself between the girl and the bodies. He turns to Scarlet, "Ah cannae make ye come wi' us, Laddie, but we wulnae be back till in th' morn."

Dalron begins to speak in goblin testing to see if Tyra recognizes it. As soon as he does she slides off his knee and backs up. “Like that. A few did talk like that... please stop, I don’t like those sounds.”

Barnabus going off of the description of the creatures, and then from Tyra telling you all they did speak goblin, you begin to think that it could be a few different things. One could be a Hobgoblin, the second one that comes to your mind is a creature called a Varag. You have never come across a Varag, but know them to be primitive and barbaric. They are distant relatives of Hobgoblins and Goblins.

Tyra takes Dalron’s hand; “I can walk. I am ready to go home. Did my mom and dad make it home safely?”

Those who are going back make their way towards Kingsholm. It does take a little bit of time but you face nothing along the way. No wolfs or worgs.

Once in town you make your way to the only resting place you know of, Ian’s Cornet & Cabbage Inn. When you enter you see that is it busier than the last time you were here. The dining area is packed with villagers and travelers alike. The crowd is a noisy one, each person seems to be talking over the next. Loud burst of laughter erupts from time to time. The aroma of roasted lamb makes your stomach grumble, you realize that breakfast was a long time ago.

After a moment Ian sees the group come in and heads in your direction. A smile spreads a cross his face when he sees Tyra, but then quickly fades when he does not see her parents.

Waving a hand to follow; “You all should follow me, we can talk in the kitchen.” You all go behind the bar and through a single door into the kitchen. He holds his hand out pointing you all to a table off to the side in the kitchen. “Tyra dear, why don’t you go help Em make the spiced breads.
