GM Deadly Secret |

If you were selected to play in this campaign, please review the build rules and communicate with your table to make a working party. Make sure you play what you want, not what others want you to play. I hope to start the game as soon as everyone is squared away with their character builds and ready to step into the setting.
We will be using google draw and this campaign forums with occasional links to media sources.
Please read the players guide you can download for free from Paizo
Taldor region you will be starting in is only a point of origin or meeting of characters.
Your characters will start in a small hamlet called Heldren. This is located near the Border Woods between Zimar and Demgazi within Taldor (South East of Oppara). This area is mostly known for logging, hunting and travel. There is no Inn, people usually pass by and some stop to get their horses reshoed. So if you don’t live in town, you are probably just passing by and stopped at the tavern for food or drink.
Take note that this region is no where near a snowy region and it is currently mid summer. Taldor is close to the equator and so it's pretty hot around this time of year and you probably will be dressed/equipped accordingly. So if you’re from the area, you’re actually not familiar with the wintery seasons, since they usually don’t get snow in these parts.
You can be living there, visiting or passing through. We will establish your characters placement in the world before we start the clock on game day. The adventure will start in the Tavern, mid day (if you’re outsider). If you are a local of Heldren, you can be anywhere “in” town at the aventure start and Teppen will come find you. Go ahead and use all this information given including the google link below to build your character's reason for being in this area, this particular hamlet. Your characters do not need to know each other but can if you so desire.
Your game will start in the Year 4713 AR on Oathday, 17th Earstus at 12:00 pm - current moon cycle: new moon
Reign of Winter Play by Post Build Rules
- Starting at LVL 1
- Starting MAX gold
- 2 Traits, no drawbacks (1 trait must be a trait from the Reign of Winter player's guide)
- Max starting health for your classes HD
- All Races 16 or lower RP (I encourage exotic races, the book does too! You will be going to many exotic places)
- All classes are allowed except for 3rd party, Mythic, Occult or Vigilante.
- No Evil alignments
- 20 point buy for stats
- We are using Unchained Background Skills & Alternate Crafting and Profession Rules
- We are not using Pathfinder Society Rules, Hero Points, Words of Power, Ultimate Combat Armor/DR, Called Shots, Piecemeal Armor, Wounds or Vigor.
- We are not using Unchained Gameplay, Stamina and Combat Tricks, Wounds Thresholds, Magic, Consolidated Skills, Grouped Skills, Skill Unlocks, Variant Multicasting, Fractional Base Bonuses or Staggered Advancement
- No 3rd party material!
- No material may be used from Mystic Adventures or Occult, including campaign settings and player companions related to those books. This includes anything related to the vigilante.
- If you have dreams and desires to ride a flying mount, that might be an option if you can last in the game long enough. If you like guns, they are rare in this AP and it will be hard to get them and bullets, but there might be option if you can last in the game long enough.
- At certain points in the game, more races will become available to play if you die. Do not intentionally die just so you can play one of those, but if you are unhappy with your current character, you can walk them off.
- Pounce (Ex): I have many issues with Paizo’s wording. If you fail to grab you can continue with your claw attacks as normal. If you succeed on the grab, then you can continue with the rake attacks with appropriate modifiers due to grapple. In other words, no your companion is not going to get 5 attacks on a charge/pounce. We can discuss but I will not be changing this ruling. This rule also applies to me and all creatures I will run with it.
- I do not tolerate thieving from other players or hiding party loot from your allies. All loot will be divided equally among the party. You will keep track on your own character sheets what you have in your inventory. I will be 100% aware of the items I gave the party and the items you purchased/or started the game with. If you sell items the party found, the gold will be split. If it was something you bought yourself and now want to sell, then all the gold should go to you unless you want to share.
- You will be traveling a lot. I mean…… A LOT. Also I’m gonna slap all kinds of environmental rules upon you so brace yourselves. This is no sissy’s campaign.
- I would appreciate it if we can keep the rhythm of 1 post a day. If not more! If you're going to be absent please let me know. I also understand life is life so if you miss a day, just let me know you're OK and get a post up as soon as you can.
- There is a high probability that someone’s character will die. No, I will not make up some stuff to have it come back to life. This adventure is dangerous and you the player are accepting this contract by submitting a character. Don’t be a poor sport if you die, but perhaps this will help you make wise decisions within the game for your table.
- Like real tables, sometimes players can't make it and I have to NPC them. I will have a 3 day rule. If we are waiting for you to post and it has been 3 days, I will NPC your character to keep the game moving. If you don't post for a week and you don't explain to the table why, we will assume you are no longer interested in playing and will be replaced. No you will not be able to get back into my game. Make sure you communicate effectively to prevent this.
- I do not need an intricate backstory. I most likely will not be utilizing it within this campaign. You can have one if you want, but all I need to know is why you're in Heldren on that date, at that hour.
OK that's it for now. Let's get to talking to each other about your concepts and things you prefer to play. I will answer all your questions promptly.

Darkwing_DM |

I PMed you what I was thinking about playing, and needing clarification, is the class out? or just the background concept? because I would still like to play the class even without the background.
The response seemed like you just didn't want any background that would match the AP. I assume that you want characters to just "drop" into the conflict after reading your discussion intro with no ties.
@group - We got this !
I am interested in the following-
Cavalier/Hunter or Hunter

RelicBlackOUT |

Thanks for selecting me as part of the team!
After reading the Player’s Guide I have two traits that I am interested in and possible concepts to go off of. The first trait is Northern Ancestry, Human Ulfen Viking Fighter. The other trait that I am looking at would be Vigilante Witch Hunter, Tiefling Gunslinger. With the gunslinger I did see where you said guns and ammo are rare. With the class gaining Gunsmithing as a free feat will I be able to still create my own ammo? Just wanted to clarify before getting into background building mode based on the trait.

RelicBlackOUT |

@GM Deadly Secret How many of us are there in this table?
Rabscuttle: Caster: Warpriest or Wizard
Pumpkinhead11: Investigator, Witch, Oracle, Wizard, Bard
Darkwing_DM Cavalier
Myself: Ulfen Viking, or Tiefling Pistolero if this is a table of 4 I would lean towards the Viking Fighter so that Rabscuttle and Pumkinhead could go with their casters. Wouldn’t want to leave Darkwing alone upfront.

GM Deadly Secret |

@Starfox_SFX - Yes they are allowed and I don't have a preference. lol over the years I guess that's what they morphed into after answering tons of questions in the past. It became easier to just include it "all" hehe
I did leave out 2 details. We will be leveling up at milestones instead of by XP track. Also, average health for level ups.

Rabscuttle |

I'm leaning towards a Warpriest of Alseta, who can handle healing and some front-line work. That could free Relic up to go Gunslinger.
I've also got a Wizard with some Barbarian levels who can do spells and hitting things
I can also do a straight Wizard who would have better spells, but wouldn't be good at hitting things.
(these are in order of my preference)

Starfox_SFX |

Some possible options are:
A swashbuckling ninja ratfolk {Melee/support}
A Vishkanya alchemist bomber (ranged and can pick up a side of healing as needed)
A gnoll nature bonded magus.(Melee/arcane)
A tengu druid with or without a companion depending on if Secret wants to deal with extra critters. {also with a side of healing}
I have more ideas if something else is needed.

Darkwing_DM |

My cavalier is mainly hunter , so I will have a horse animal companion I’m just taking one dip I think in cavalier, I can also go with a ape animal companion
@black- so do you want your slayer to do the trapfinder of the group?
I like the following ideas for my vote.
Me - hunter I can pick up emergency healing pumpkin no need for white mage(melee /secondary healer)
Star- nature magus gnoll ( I’m just curious) and think it would ultimately fit the theme of the AP (arcane/melee)
Pumpkin- Either oracle or wizard/ witch depending on Rab
Barb- Warpriest or wizard depending on pumpkin
Black- slayer (melee/trapfinder

Pumpkinhead11 |

Then i'll start building sheets for a Kitsune Witch; and a Kitsune Oracle. I'll replace the Wizard option with Arcanist and keep it as third choice just in case, but i'll focus on the other two.
This is how i currently understand the party makeup; but anyone is free to correct me or change their choice.
Darkwing - Hunter
Rab - Warpriest
Pumpkin (me) - Witch
Black - Slayer
Star - Magus (or something else)

Rabscuttle |

I'm locking in Warpriest of Alseta.
Probably an oread.
Community/Protection blessings.
Tentative mini-backstory is that I am a travelling priest, stopping in different towns for a time and taking temporary work - guardwork/bouncer/diplomacy/blessing etc. At the start of the adventure, I'll have been in town for three or four weeks.

This is RelicBlackOUT.
Here is my Ulfen Slayer. I don’t have the number crunch for his Attack/DMG or his AC yet. I will get that up and going before the 16th, I wanted to get everything else up.
I know you said backgrounds didn’t need to be elaborate, but once I start writing things just started flowing... I will be using his journal to track his thoughts and whatnot incase you want to read it. I will also be continuing his story within it as reflections.
Please let me know if there is anything that I need to change. I am excited about this character and this game!!!

Steinolf Stone |

I added AC and attacks. I also corrected my skills. I should have had one more because of being a human.

Starfox_SFX |

Working on a gnoll since that seemed to pique the curiosity of a couple of people. Just a quick warning, there is no secret trick to the nature bonded magus, its just an interesting idea. Losing arcane pool for a plant familiar isn't a powerful trade ;)
That being said, I have narrowed down three options for a lv 1 druid spell:
Frostbite is a good offensive spell that also seems thematic (though if everything has cold resist its usefulness might be mitigated).
Goodberry is a supplementary healing/utility spell and with the right plant familiar I will have a supply of berries on hand.
Featherstep is a utility spell that might be handy given Secret's warning about environmental FX.
Any thoughts or alternate suggestions?

Yukiharu |

It's still a big mess, but it's mostly done. Just need to sand down the edges tomorrow a lot and it's done. In the meantime i put a link to what i have so far.
-Pumpkinhead11
edit: Goodberry would be a good idea for all the traveling.

Yukiharu |

Racial traits and abilities are in my Alias currently. I used Kitsune from Advanced Race Guide and two Alternate Racial Traits from Player Companion: Blood of Beasts.

Rabscuttle |

@GM Deadly Secret - ah, right. When I arrived in town, I would have tried at the Temple of Erastil, town barracks (if there are any), or I could just bivouac somewhere nearby - should be no problem sleeping under the stars in the middle of summer. :)
If that's all too complicated, then I'll just change it to I arrived in town in the morning and have spent the time asking around about lodging and stuff :)
@Group - Has anyone else got face skills? I think I'm the only one with Diplomacy as a class skill, but I'm rocking a racial penalty to CHA. I'll put skill points in (but I don't have many)
I'm finishing up and copying over my character now.

Steinolf Stone |

Forum alias please.
I didn’t know there were different formats to submit a character. Is mine ok? I can change what is needed

I could move some skills and get intimidate or bluff.

Gavinia Hornsten |

Here is Gavinia, Warpriest of Alseta.
Let me know if anything is amiss or a-missing.
Note: She is a sculptor, so the sculpting tools are "Artisan's Tools". I also made her holy symbol out of stone, I used the iron holy symbol stats.
She's going to be pretty tanky, although a bit slow. I will probably need to buy a horse if we end up doing much walking.
For social stuff, we might be able to rely on my community blessing: for one minute I can let someone's aid another give +4 instead of +2.
I'm also heading towards Bodyguard as a feat, so in a couple of levels I'll be able to potentially bump your AC by +4 when someone tries to hit you (if I'm next to them)

Garrasay |

You've given me an idea, I will take the Flowering Lattice plant familiar which gives +3 diplomacy (and produces berries), and the woodland emissary trait which gives +1 diplomacy and makes it a class skill. I have no charisma bonus, but that's fine.
I'm just trying to find a way to make my plant familiar talk so the gnoll growls and barks harshly, then the flowers translate in a musical voice.

Some minor updates:
Changed avatar to something a little more martial,
Fixed skills (was missing ACP),
Added languages (I have all the elemental ones),
Added ceremonial mask to equipment. Not sure what to price it as, it's just a bit of flavour from Inner Sea Faiths.
The masks Alsetan priests wear on the backs of their heads are their most identifiable feature. Each mask is unique, carved by its owner at the time of her initiation into the church, and represents some aspect of the priest’s past gladly left behind by joining the priesthood.
