Leialoha |

I know but I thought you got a rod or two with your share of loot? From 6/10 in discussion thread: "the DM handwaived the rods leialoha to speed things up (we owe the LG mage a favor instead of weird cat stevens guy). You should have both rods and the ring you wanted, so lets rock and roll"
I have the rods. But, I'm not sure that they can be used on that spell. I can use them on garden variety fireballs, but I'm not sure I can use them on empowered fireballs.

Oro-Tu |

pretty sure you can charge through allies also. I don't really care about the captain was just curious. If she dies do we get her boat? Leialoha didn't you buy a regular selective rod (not lesser) and maximize rod? Interesting. I just looked it up and it says metamagic feats don't change the actual spell level just the slot level, so you can use a lesser rod on an empowered fireball, no need for a regular rod. Except for heighten spell.

charge
You must have a clear path toward the opponent, and nothing can hinder your movement (such as difficult terrain or obstacles). You must move to the closest space from which you can attack the opponent. If this space is occupied or otherwise blocked, you can't charge. If any line from your starting space to the ending space passes through a square that blocks movement, slows movement, or contains a creature (even an ally), you can't charge.
I am pretty sure a barbarian doesn't know anything about the spells involved regardless so please don't metagame:) If the captain dies it is a very long swim back!

Aurora Shadowbane |

Hey Oro tu, just a reminder, did you remember to double your rage bonuses on Str/Con Ect. when calculating damage and hits. (Moment of Greatness); If Beth had gotten her freebooters bane off and her bless off that would had been also a boon. Also you can choose a effect from the list below each round from my other spell and dont forget Uraisa cast Bark Skin for +3 Nat Armor, Plus whatever silas and the others did.
1) Increase its speed by 30 feet.2) Stand up as a swift action without provoking an attack of opportunity.
3) Make one extra attack as part of a full attack action, using its highest base attack bonus.
4) Gain a +2 bonus on attack rolls and a +2 dodge bonus to AC and Reflex saves. (I will take this for this round).
5) Cast a single spell of 2nd level or lower as if it were an enlarged, extended, silent, or still spell.
*These effects are not cumulative with similar effects, such as those provided by haste or a speed weapon, nor do they actually grant an extra action, so you can't use it to cast a second spell or otherwise take an extra action in the round. Blessing of fervor does not stack with haste.
Moving up to the Creature 25 ft. and prepare for attack:
+1 consecrated grayflame silversheen greatsword with Greyflame Activated +2 Atk/Dam (Enhancement)/+1d6 (Devine) Dam and Channel Force activated +4 Force Damage/Destructive Smite (Free;Su) +3 (+6) Morale Damage; Str + 4 (x1.5); BAB +5; Weapon Focus; Damage 2d6: DR Silver/Magic/Holy/Cold Iron.
Attack: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (14) + 12 = 262d6 + 1d6 + 18 ⇒ (3, 2) + (1) + 18 = 24
Cross your fingers, hope this works.

The second Guardian falls. XP=2100 each for the three Guardians and the Basidirond.

Silas Frey |

Silas finishes floundering in quicksand having shed his armour and gear. Luckily keeping on his sleeves.
With him back in control of his faculties he dresses quickly. "Uraisa, can you look around to see if there's anything else as a threat ahead of us?"

brvheart |

The rest of the temple appears to be empty of threats.
The steps rise to a huge stone building, a temple without walls and bearing a stone roof atop tall stone columns. The columns are twenty feet high and five wide. Each is covered with bestial animal figures, prevalent amongst which are great sharks. Within, the columns rise and meet to form arches, each depicting sharks devouring sharks. A huge carving occupies the center of the four arches in the middle of the structure. The rooftop hosts a dozen bird figures of gold, one immediately above each pillar.
The carving depicts battles between dragons and figures holding staves and wearing long and somewhat repulsive masks. The sun is blotted from the sky by the largest of these dragons, which holds a mouth full of screaming women.

Ivar "Goldilocks" Theodinson |
Ivar kicks the sword away from the construct that Aurora killed, I wonder is it the metal or the magic that made this so hard to kill? Ivar takes a quick look at the creature to see if he can tell what it is made of.

Aurora Shadowbane |

Lets heal first and ask questions later, now remember, those who are poisoned may still have more saves to make, I can make some Antidote for you to help with your saves.
Channel Energy: 4d6 + 4d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 1, 3) + (6, 1, 6, 6) = 29

Whew, I am exhausted
Standing there channeling healing to the group and finally to Captain Mercy, Aurora's hair is drenched by the end and she is dripping with sweat and weak.
Well, I guess we will live, but that took most of all my remaining energy to do, I will be better in the morning, Lord Falkynjagger will see to it, I am certain

Capt Mercy finishes healing with the wand:

She used 5 charges

brvheart |

Leialoha, you detect a very strong emanation of magic on the area in between the columns, enough to give you a headache!

Oro-Tu |

Oro-Tu lets Ivar work on collecting anything while Leialoha checks out the aura. He and Uraisa can scope the place out for other hidden dangers or treasure.

The carving depicts battles between dragons and figures holding staves and wearing long and somewhat repulsive masks. The sun is blotted from the sky by the largest of these dragons, which holds a mouth full of screaming women. Examination of the carvings reveals four staves in all. Three staves are burning their holders alive, but one shoots fire from its end. Each figure stands adjacent to one of the four central columns.

Ivar "Goldilocks" Theodinson |
ivar, deciding to not climb on the roof yet, goes and looks at the huge carving which occupies the center of the four arches in the middle of the structure. this is an amazing battle, has it happened yet or is this a prophecy of it happing. Noticing the four figures that stands adjacent to the four central columns, Ivar asks "Is there a significance that this one" pointing to the one shooting fire "is shooting fire and the other three are being engulfed in flame?" Ivar then goes and carefully studies the column near the figure with the staff shooting flame.
perception: 1d20 ⇒ 14
not sure exactly which pillar it is, but it seems like a good place to start, I assume everything we are seeing is a carved mural on the ceiling, not a sculpture we can easily interact with.

brvheart |

You note that this staff has a seam between it and the surface of the carving and, in fact, can be easily removed.

Uraisa Ellsworth |

"Do we want to risk it? I'm afraid this will cause a big explosion of fire. Everyone needs to move back, who doesn't want to be up here." Uraisa waits until everyone decides where they want to be before casting Communal Resist Energy (Fire) on everyone who stays up with she and Ivar.

brvheart |

Ivar "Goldilocks" Theodinson |
well that's interesting, wish I had seen it As Uraisa points out the seam on the staff Ivar was looking at he nods and then goes in a clock-wise direction to the next pillar and carefully looks at its staff. wonder if I can find something over here.
perception: 1d20 ⇒ 5 ok so his not good for much other than swimming and fighting oh and cannon fodder ;)

Silas Frey |

Silas looks around. "Ok let's try and find the trigger for me to disable, but watch your step and don't get too close."
perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15

Beth Macara |

"Let me have a look, Silas. Every one please move back.
Beth casts a small cantrip before checking the entrance, the roof, the ground and the carvings for the trigger.
perception: 1d20 + 14 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 14 + 1 = 30

You locate not one, but four separate traps one on each column. . Only characters with the trapfinding class feature can attempt a Disable Device check involving a magic trap.

Capt Mercy |

I do not believe Silas has the trapfinding class feature, only Capt Mercy does and she is no better at it than Silas. Taking 20 on the trap, Capt Mercy takes the time to study them.
"Buggers, I don't think I kin disable these. We might have to find another way around this. I can try, but my changes are not good."

Silas Frey |

I do have disable device.
Master of Deception
A sandman gains a bonus equal to half his level on Bluff, Sleight of Hand, and Stealth checks. He may also disarm magical traps with Disable Device as a rogue’s trapfinding ability.
This ability replaces bardic knowledge.
Silas breaks out his thieves tools. "Captain, you could assist me given the size of the trap. Uraisa, could you give the resistance to fire to the Captain and myself."
Got +12 +1 (from Beth) +2 (if the Captain assists) and then keeping Gallant inspiration in my back pocket. If it blows then I have +12 reflex save to lessen the damage.

brvheart |

Again you note that this staff has a seam between it and the surface of the carving and, in fact, can be easily removed. You also note that each column has a tiny keyhole at its base, immediately facing the center of the temple.

Uraisa Ellsworth |

"I can cast a few Summoning spells, but I hate the idea of bringing a creature here just as bait for a trap. We know the risks and accept them of what we do, but they don't. I can't bring myself to do it."
