Tony Tanner II |

I see your point, but it sounds like Raynaud, Seir and Brodin are at risk. Gilda can't heal and Belle is strained for spells.
Garrosh and Tony...
...taking on those goblins? I don't know.
If we were better positioned, we'd flank from the chasm and circling around behind them... But it could take a couple rounds to get behind.
Do you think the half-orc cleric would do another blast like that if Garrosh jumps across?

Belle PBP |

My issue is that he cast a 5th level spell and that means he has, perhaps, one more from wisdom and one more from domain, and about 4 4th level spells. Ouch!
If we can get into melee with him, fine. We can deal with him. Otherwise it is up to Brodin to take him out with arrows all the while with a big fat target painted on his chest. I suspect there is a way to them to the southeast though. I saw a passageway that hooked back northwestward. If we do decide to proceed, I recommend headed southeast in a rush.
Note: Belle already has a Mage Armor up so ignore what I said about saving a first level spell for that.

Garrosh Saurfang |

Gotcha guys. Posted!

Reynaud La Croix |

Yeah I thought about just breaking line of sight and getting channeled to fighting shale, but that'd still take a couple of turns and they might come and chuck grenades at us while we lick our wounds anyway. 7 hobs throwing Alchemists fire into a room where we are all cramped together will be lethal.

GM Hands of Fate |

If you want to change Tony up, yeah, feel free. My rules for character creation are much stricter than the OGM, so please run your changes by me first.

GM Hands of Fate |

So, where are the retraining rules. I don't think I have ever read them. I'm happy to have people change up their characters a little.

Garrosh Saurfang |

I'll wait for Tony before posting Garrosh's actions.
Even though he does not have a full plate like Garrosh, just the fact the 'Predator' managed to jump over that chasm is impressive (I know because I was pondering it, and then realized I needed a 17 to cross it with a running start :P), so 'retraining' may not be exactly what will be needed after this :D

GM Hands of Fate |

'retraining' may not be exactly what will be needed after this :D
Yeah, I had this planned out for a few rounds before you even pondered it.

Garrosh Saurfang |

Hey! I just realized the GM is trying to kill us!

GM Hands of Fate |

THIS IS RAPPAN ATHUK!!!
I'm just trying to kill you in the most fun and enjoyable ways...

Garrosh Saurfang |

But we want to have fun too!
Guess we will have to take down the Predator + Priest combo, and stop you from killing us. Sorry about that.
I expect an appropriate reward after our resounding victory.

GM Hands of Fate |

You mean like the counterfeit coins you used back in the city to buy healing potions from the priest? OOOOH he was pissed when he found that out....
Even taking down these two, I'll still try and kill you...You still haven't finished off Level 1 of Rappan Athuk proper...

Belle PBP |

Seir, did you head down the wrong passageway? 'cause you're on the other side of the archer wall from the exit passageway.

Tony Tanner II |

Yeah, I had this planned out for a few rounds before you even pondered it.
Uh. Since this 'Predator' landed beside Tony...
...did he provoke an Attack of Opportunity? The hobgoblin closest to the one hanging off the cliff assists his comrade, but only manages in assisting to send his comrade to the bottom of the chasm.
Ha. He fell anyways.
=P
GM Hands of Fate |

Uh. Since this 'Predator' landed beside Tony...
...did he provoke an Attack of Opportunity?
..who takes a running leap and easily clears the chasm, and steps up, toe-to-toe with the Rogue.
He didn't land in the space next to you. But, curiously, why do you think you should get an AoO?

GM Hands of Fate |

Seir channels another burst of healing energy from his holy symbol.
I can't see where Tony is, but I think I can at least get everyone else from my position. Definitely can't see the priest so I don't think I can do spellcraft.
Channel Energy is a Burst effect. Burst effects don't penetrate walls, so Belle, Brodin and Gilda are SOL. Tony is out of range.
Channeling energy causes a burst that affects all creatures of one type...
A burst spell affects whatever it catches in its area, including creatures that you can’t see. It can’t affect creatures with total cover from its point of origin (in other words, its effects don’t extend around corners)

Garrosh Saurfang |

Garrosh is affected, correct? :D

GM Hands of Fate |

Garrosh is affected....am I correct in thinking he is now at full 44/44 hp?

Garrosh Saurfang |

You are correct sir.

Tony Tanner II |

He didn't land in the space next to you. But, curiously, why do you think you should get an AoO?
I'm not sure of the angle/direction he came from but was just curious if he'd passed through any off Tony's threatened squares. If not, obviously no AoO.
If he landed outside Tony's range and then moved close, well...
Immediately as Tony moves to withdraw, the predator moves to follow him.
Rage Power: No Escape
o___O
OH. NO.
GM Hands of Fate |

Tony, your action for this round was to withdraw away from him. His No Escape action is an immediate action...it doesn't happen on his turn, it happens as a response to your withdrawl.
He gets to go now :)
Gilda is bolting....she's at 3hp. Right now, after being told to withdraw and then seeing Belle go back, Brodin isn't sure what the hell to do...so he will probably return to see what happens.
Leaving work now. Will update with their turns later, probably Monday.

GM Hands of Fate |

Hehehe, no problem Tony. It's always confusing in PBP when the bad guys go out of turn.

GM Hands of Fate |

unfortunately no....I can't edit your posts. and I can only edit mine within like 4 hours.

GM Hands of Fate |

As for being deafened that should not matter since it is a scroll that Belle created herself earlier. I don't think scrolls suffer from the deafened issue. I moved her out from the corner. Go for broke!
Activate the Spell: Activating a scroll requires reading the spell from the scroll. The character must be able to see and read the writing on the scroll. Activating a scroll spell requires no material components or focus. (The creator of the scroll provided these when scribing the scroll.) Note that some spells are effective only when cast on an item or items. In such a case, the scroll user must provide the item when activating the spell. Activating a scroll spell is subject to disruption just as casting a normally prepared spell would be. Using a scroll is like casting a spell for purposes of arcane spell failure chance.
The reason there is a spell failure roll while deafened is that you cannot hear yourself enunciate the words correctly. When activating a scroll, you are still speaking the words. There is still the chance to fail. Please make a roll.

Belle PBP |

Well, it never occurred to me that a scroll would suffer from things like armor penalties or deafness. I suppose you could rationalize the deafness thing, but armor? Does that mean if a Fighter does a UMD to read a scroll it will almost certainly fail if he is wearing armor? That just boggles me.

GM Hands of Fate |

According to the rules, yes. Probably because you still need to make the somnantic gestures, which is why there is an ASF chance in armor to begin with.

GM Hands of Fate |

17 damage from the longspear...? Dang!
Yep, he's got some stuff going on
The most common train of thought says you can't trip them as they stand up, BECAUSE the AoO occurs BEFORE the action, and they are still on the floor... So:
That is my interpretation/
HoF, so he doesn't answer me? I have one question though, he did drop something to grab the pot and drink it, right? Maybe his sword? :D
Why doesn't answer you? You were talking to Tony...
And he is wielding a shortspear one handed...but....ah I see...yes...he drops his shield
The tactics of a raging barbarian with a 7 Wis

Garrosh Saurfang |

"Keep that priest off my back Tony!" - Garrosh roars, turning then to face the half-orc, speaking in a guttural language as he swings in an attempt to gain an offensive edge.
Nope I actually spoke to the Predator directly, in orcish and all :P
Damage math incoming (posting from phone...).
Reynaud, I think you have 2AoOs and a normal attack, or are you also waiting to see if he goes down? :D
