Garrosh Saurfang |
Will do.
GM Hands of Fate |
I've got to be honest...
...I think this goblin might have gotten Tony; he's pushed his AC to 23 by fighting defensively.
*******************************************************************
Move Action: Acrobatics Check": 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (12) + 12 = 24 Southeast one square and east another square, through goblin
Standard Action: Dagger, +3 Attack Roll": 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (1) + 12 = 13, +2 Flanking, -4 Fight Defensively
Dagger, +3 Damage Roll": 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5 plus Sneak Attack Damage": 3d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 2) = 11 plus Debilitating Injury (Disoriented)
*******************************************************************
You, sir, are correct. For some reason, I was giving you +4 AC for fighting defensively.
GM Hands of Fate |
So now I need to know. Is high a failure or low?
Pretty sure I said low is failure somewhere before.
Hobgoblin Perception DC0: 1d20 + 2 - 20 ⇒ (2) + 2 - 20 = -16
Tony Tanner II |
Sounds like the Vanish spell failed. Sorry Tony - really not your day.
It's okay! But I wish you hadn't cast it on Tony; with his high AC and moving to flank (barring natural 1s) he's doing alright. It might be more useful for Belle to cast it on herself or even Gilda and not the people actually headlong into combat.
Tony moves into a less flanked position, and attempts to stab the hobgoblin, but almost manages to cut his fingers off as the blade slips in his hands. It's almost as if the blade intentionally twisted in the rogue's hands to get at his blood.
Okay, so, my heart leapt into my chest...
..."Now I'm going to play a character called 'Tony 'Six-fingers' Tanner'!"But I see now its 'almost'.
Phew.
Belle PBP |
I thought about that, but battlefield changes and all. I figured if you were invisible it would guarantee you a sneak attack next round. Any attack spell would have ruined her invisibility and made her a target. I plan to do an attack next round, though she is down to two lousy spells and some scrolls and will expose her to some nasty damage.
GM Hands of Fate |
Okay, so, my heart leapt into my chest...
Maybe, just maybe, that blade is cursed...

That'd actually be neat. This dagger definitely makes Tony punch above his weight class. Losing it or it being compromised would be devastating.
GM Hands of Fate |
Tony's AC is still 23! He's still fighting defensively.
My apologies, I did not see that.
GM Hands of Fate |
Belle tucks herself back in with the others and tries to hit the sergeant and his squad with a Burst of Radiance (centered in the corner southwest of the sergeant), using an arcane reservoir to boost the DC.
What sergeant? Brodin took him out last round. Or do you mean the half-orc newcomer? He's not a sergeant.... >:-{)} And hyou don't have LOS to that guy. So, I'm confused.
Belle PBP |
I meant the squad on the ledge which I thought included the sergeant but I guess includes the new half-orc. I had thought I had line of sight, but I guess I did not. I adjusted Belle's position so that she does and the target is the 5 on the ledge. Hopefully no more confusion!
GM Hands of Fate |
Belle, did you have multiple copies of burst of radiance memorized? You cast one back here. And dod you have multiple copies of web memorized too?
Belle PBP |
Belle is an Arcanist. They are an odd mix of Wizard and Sorcerer and she may repeatedly cast any of the spells she has memorized.
GM Hands of Fate |
Ah OK. Haven't read the arcanist in a long time, and haven't played one or had one in one of my games.
Belle PBP |
Yep. They get more flexibility with their spells and have their arcane reservoir shenanigans, but no bloodline stuff and about 2/3 the amount of spells per day as a sorcerer (which is more comparable to a wizard except they have domain spells and bonded spells added in so they also get more spells than me). That later part is painful. I keep running out of spells because SOMEONE likes to run marathon battles. I wish we had had enough money to buy a few more attack scrolls!
GM Hands of Fate |
It's not that I like to run marathon battles. It's that you guys keep delving deeper instead of retreating like you have said you are going to do twice now. ;)
What's better, is you guys do it when the rest of your party are still fighting..."Oh, they seem to have this under control. I'll go check out the next room and see if the dragon is in there."
GM Hands of Fate |
Bet you would have enough money if you sold that efreeti bottle to that chaotic evil wizard ;)
Tony Tanner II |
This is definitely not the best way to find out Tony has no healing potions.
EDIT: Waitaminute...
Half-orc cleric touch attack on Tony: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17 for 4d8 ⇒ (4, 2, 4, 7) = 17
Standard Action: Melee Dagger, +3 Attack Roll: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (19) + 12 = 31, +2 flanking, -4 fighting defensively
Fighting Defensively as a Standard Action: You can choose to fight defensively when attacking. If you do so, you take a –4 penalty on all attacks in a round to gain a +2 dodge bonus to AC until the start of your next turn.
Tony's touch AC breaks down like this:
- 10 Base
- +1 deflection ring of protection, +1
- +5 Dexterity Modifier
- +2 dodge bonus Fighting Defensively
Which means, with a touch AC of 18...
...Tony might still be an untouchable god of war!
>=D
Belle PBP |
What's better, is you guys do it when the rest of your party are still fighting..."Oh, they seem to have this under control. I'll go check out the next room and see if the dragon is in there."
Hey, in my defense I only did that because I really AM running out of spells. Sure she could take a few potshots with her 1d6-1 short bow with a 50% chance of hitting, but a quick scout while the invisibility was working seemed a better use of her actions. I'm really struggling to keep Belle relevant as the fight goes on! This is all I got now:
1 first level spell
2 scrolls of Color Spray, CL 1
1 scroll of Glitterdust, CL 4
1 potion of cure light wounds
1 Wand of Summon Monster II (3 ch)
The area affect spells are only good for opportunities like the one on the ledge. The first level spell is being saved for a Vanish or Mage Armor.
But I like it this way. It's kind of fun to run out of spells and have to think outside the box chasing imaginary dragons and the like.
GM Hands of Fate |
Standard Action: Melee Dagger, +3 Attack Roll: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (19) + 12 = 31, +2 flanking, -4 fighting defensively
Sorry, missed that again!
GM Hands of Fate |
Hey, in my defense I only did that because I really AM running out of spells.
I know that, and you have been screaming about it IC for a while, but it doesn't seem like your party cares ;)
Belle PBP |
I've found that the unaugmented 2nd level summoned monsters are, at best, a mildly useful distraction. I rarely hit with them. Pathetic, but they do give a flank buddy for a round and give something to hide behind.
Belle PBP |
I don't see the cleric on the map. From which general direction did the light come from, anyone? Perhaps it is out of her field of vision, but even so she might be able to sick some eagles on it.
GM Hands of Fate |
Belle, you may be out of range or around a corner. The cleric is on the ledge, across the chasm, where the other archers were.
GM Hands of Fate |
Have Pinged Reynaud and Garrosh. I know Garrosh is away and plan on acting for him. If I don't hear from Reynaud, I'll progress.
GM Hands of Fate |
Is there anyone here that is from Florida that I can expect not to be posting for a while after this weekend?
GM Hands of Fate |
Those caught in the flamestrike need to make a DC 18 Reflex save; Tony, Reynaud, Brodin, Seir.
Belle PBP |
Aha!
I guess I was not foolish for thinking area affect after all! I usually make wild assumptions but not this time!
Belle PBP |
I'm thinking she may have to mage armor and wade in with her longsword at some point. Unless you think you can take out the spellcaster if you are invisible... Hah. Considering what we were just discussing, it would not be a good idea to try that!
Tony Tanner II |
Vanish'll only give him five rounds and ends with an attack. And with the spells this guy is dropping, one attack won't do it and Tony can't reliably perform multiple attacks, even if he gets sneak attacks.
But that spell will mean that he'll have a miss chance for the onslaught of arrows and possibly a targeted spell that he's about due.
I see nowhere for him to lurk around and lie in wait. I say, it's time to go.
GM Hands of Fate |
Could I get an image/description of the spellcaster? Perhaps which deity? Young? Old? Male or female?
Male, half orc, indeterminate age. Tony has no religeous knowledge so would be unable to identify the god.
Garrosh Saurfang |
Not sure if this is too meta to discuss, and it may sound crazy, but I think Garrosh is gonna push for us to press on. He wanted to interrogate them before, but now in the thick of it... He's an HALF-ORC after all...
Seir can channel heal the group (a LOT if needed) , and I am planning on a Communal Protection VS Evil (you're not wounded right Tony?), followed by a madness infused jump across the chasm :D
If that priest is packing many more spells of that level then we are done for anyway. But if we beat them... Wow us, and Ragathiel will REJOICE!!
Garrosh Saurfang |
I'm back from vacations by the way :P
Garrosh Saurfang |
If we give them time to regroup...
Garrosh Saurfang |
I mean if we give them time and they encroach/barricade we'll never get through.
