Sharlavaka
"Yes. Hit by meteor before we could finish exploring. Wished for orbital platforms, shield. Found a few other bits." Sharlavaka considered. That seemed like all the pertinent information.
Eshenvral Kothiavus
"You dwarves make excellent time capsules, it seems. The fortress was home to more then simple trinkets, with at least two once presumed extinct species inhabiting the space." His eyes slowly drift toward the glacier melt. "It seems you've had little luck activating the shield we managed to magically procure."
Rundown on what we gathered from the fortress, Rando?
rando1000
These are the items that were found:
Wand - Detect Magic without expending a charge, or, for 1 charge, can cast Identify. There are 30 charges remaining.
Ring - has transmutation properties; it's relatively powerful, but limited to an age related effect. Esh suspects it will restore youth in some manner, but is unsure of the specifics.
Deck of Many Things - donjon card has been played.
Amulet - will increase one's KAC by +2 when worn.
Wand of Hold Person (29 charges)
Ring of Resistant Armor (3 times/day)
Magic Breastplate (Level 6, +6 EAC +4 KAC +3 Max Dex; counts as modern armor)
Boots of Speed (+1 bonus to AC, +30' movement rate, one additional attack when making full attacks; usable 10 rounds per day)
Headband of Inspired Wisdom +2
Gloves of Dexterity +2
Tiara of Translocation
Crystal Ball
Unknown rusty iron rod
Some undescribed "extra items" collected from the rubble after the fortress was destroyed (items to fulfill the mission, not for the PCs).
My intention was that the Deck, the Tiara, the Crystal Ball, and the Iron Rod (once it's been identified) would be the most useful to the Gardathir, and the rest of the items could be divvied up by the party (keeping in mind Isis got a Mark II Personal Upgrade worth 5100 CR more than her previous version).
SerpentViolet
OOC: Seems to me that the wand can be immediately used to ID the ring and the rod. Naturally I covet stuff, but as Rando mentioned, Isis did get an extra 5100 Cr worth of wish. Maybe there will be something leftover once everyone has gotten something once?
Also, more out of curiosity than hoping to have, what is "Resistant Armor"?
It occurs to me to wonder just how many items are solely employable by Esh and maybe Captain Quinn.
While Rando has a specified agenda for some of the items (Gardathir), I was hoping we could sell some things for some fabulous wealth. I've been envisioning some expensive goodies.
SerpentViolet
More OOC: I don't know how much a wealthy sentient would pay for eternal youth. We really should find out the details of that ring.
Eshenvral Kothiavus
Honestly, only the wands and perhaps the crystal ball so far seem imidietly useful to Esh personally. Not sure why you think otherwise. You're right for the first thing however, he would have used the wand to fully identify the ring and the rod. Does this deck work differently then normal? I presumed that it was virtually limitless to the amount of times you can draw, simply highly unwise.
rando1000
Sorry, back in the day, we always played once a card was drawn, it was gone. I'm gonna keep that for these purposes; that said, if it goes to the Gardathir, that's one bad card they don't have a chance to draw.
Also, if someone gets the "shaft" in the pick of decent items, Morgym *might* be willing to hand out a lesser item you found in the unnamed group that would be more to your liking. Don't min-max me on that offer, though; try to split up the items you have first, then we'll see where everyone's at wealth-wise.
Perhaps we should move the questions about treasure to the "discussion" page.
rando1000
By spending two of the charges on the magic item wand, the party is able to tell that the Iron rod is a Rod of Rust. It can be used to cast "Rusting Grasp," one charge per 3" cube rusted to dust. Needless to say, this might be quite useful against Tank divisions and smaller attack ships.
The rod has 10 charges when found. Spent charges are renewed every day, so that a wielder can expend up to 10 charges in any 24-hour period.
The ring is actually cursed. If you were to put it on, it would de-age you to prepubescent childhood (or the closest species equivalent).
SerpentViolet
OOC: Rando, is a 3" cube 30' to a side indoors and 30 yards to a side outdoors? Or 3 game inches; i.e. 3 5'-squares to a side?
rando1000
Morgrym is startled at the mention of wish-magic, his eyes going uncharacteristically wide. But he hides his amazement and continues.
Once all the items have either been given him or arrangements have been made for exchange, Morgrym Stands and hobbles toward the door.
"I've got to get doing, they want my take on this whole forcefield business. Your payment's in the drawer." And with that, the gruff old warrior wanders off.
Another 1000 Ȼ awaits each of you.
Also, Level up!
This adventure is at an end; it's going to take me a few days to get stuff together for the next one. Maybe Saturday or Sunday I'll have something up. In the meantime, hopefully we can sort out the rest of the treasure and get everyone leveled up.
SerpentViolet
Rando, there was a discrepancy with the numbers that you left alone. Now is the opportunity to either rectify or perpetuate it. Mark 5 armor was miscalculated from 21 BP to 14. Now Mark 4 would legally cost 15, so you could simultaneously go down one level of armor and up a single BP and be kosher.
SerpentViolet
While we all get say, I have some very particular notions of what to spend BPs on:
For 2 BP we can squeeze 10 more SPs out of our Shields for the same PCU cost.
For an added 3, 1, and 1 BP we can fire-link our coilgun and gyrolasers. This doubles their damage without impacting PCU use.
That comes to only 7 added, plus 1 for the math error.
Idk if you're counting the "gift"/second gyrolaser BP cost in the total tally.
Other things to look at are an aft-mounted laser net, which can shoot down tracking missiles, and Long range sensors (right now we have Medium).
Also, fyi, the ship gets 10 more Hull Points at 4th tier and the computer upgrades to Tier 2.
Eshenvral Kothiavus
Sidenote: I'd really zprefer we kept disccusions like that in ooc? Bit OCD about that.
SerpentViolet
Hacking DC goes up by 4 for every tier of a computer, plus one of us opted for "anti-hacking system", which sounds good, but only adds +1 per level bought.
So the computer is now naturally DC 21 to hack, plus 1 for anti-hacking, i.e. DC 22. I would ask whomever chose it if they want to free up 3 BPs for something else by dumping it, but by rights they could even purchase more (it maxes out at +4). We all get say.

I... I just said...
SerpentViolet
OOC: Another, final(?) thought is that it only takes +2 BP to up our Power Core to Pulse Red, which would mean we don't have to take systems off-line to budget PCUs. It would even give us future wiggle room for hardier weapons/other systems.

Please leave it as is and don't retcon BP purchases. Thanks.

INTERLUDE
While most of the crew is busy preparing for the potential Azlanti invasion, getting to know each other, or just generally carousing, Esh has done some advanced research on the Gelatinous Cube sample he retrieved from the stronghold.
He's learned that a gelatinous cube’s acid does not harm metal or stone, that the creature is 100% immune to outside electrical impulses, and that it follows the general traits of all creatures in the ooze category. Esh calatogues all the creature's bio-chemical traits and genetic markers for future use. At some point, given access to advanced cloning facilities, Esh has know doubt he'd be able to replicate the creature for observance by future generations.
NEW ADVENTURE STARTING TOMORROW.
SerpentViolet
Isis tested her textbook knowledge of Azlanti with Eshenvral: (OOC: If Esh doesn't know any Azlanti, she is instead using a computer tutorial.)
“How do they call you? The pencil is on the table next to the map. Do you like orange juice? It pleases me.”
Later Isis visited the combination Med Bay and Life Science Lab. Deciding it was time, she decanted a jar of home made ginger beer and took a sip. It was bitter, with alcohol kick, and tasted good.
rando1000
When Suddenly...
The planetary defense siren sounds. Set up by Dwarven engineers at the founding of the colony, the siren is piped through each populated area as well as through all starship and vehicle comm units. It signals potentially hostile vessels have been detected approaching the planet.
Give a brief description of where your character is and what they are doing when the siren goes off.
SerpentViolet
OOC: Isis is in the galley, preparing a tasty exotic dinner.
Quinn, I've asked you to determine whether Isis gets a turn at the helm. Esh, Sharlavaka, if our Captain doesn't post promptly, can you vote on Isis as pilot for a single combat? Permission isn't up to me.
SV
Captain Olivia Quinn
Quinn is at a bar or club, preferably of the 'strip club' variety.
As for the piloting, I don't really care per se, but as has been pointed out, Vera can't be gunner so if you are piloting then we don't have a gunner unless someone else can do it? Oh and I'll finish leveling up in the next day or two. This is just overall a terrible month.
SerpentViolet

Well Sharlavaka would be left, but technically Esh can swap roles from Science Officer to gunner at the start of any given round, and I think they're both tied at +6 gunnery. I just want the one turn at piloting.
Or, since Isis is at a ridiculous +10 to hit with ship armaments, she can while piloting take the action "Snap Shot" for a starship weapon attack at -2 for +8 if she's the only gunner in the round.| Sharlavaka |
Huh. Guess I'll get to take the next space fight off if you're doing both.
It would perhaps be no surprise, given his nature and what little others knew of his past, that Sharlavaka's quarters would be neat - spartan - dedicate to the tools of his trade, weapons and armour. Of course, if he was a normal Vesk, Sharlavaka likely wouldn't be aboard the Revenge at all. His quarters were covered in mementoes of his travels, bright silk hangings and carved masks hanging from the walls, a comfortable looking bed dominating much of what was left.
Still, it was true that he was a killer, and Sharlavaka knew the tools of his trade as well as any Vesk. At the time of the strike the soldier was putting the finishing touches on its adjustments, the fine-tuning that was needed before one could be confident in a weapon and it's comfort.
Sharlavaka made a clicking noise - one that among his folk was somewhat equivalent of an irritated sigh in the more common tongues - and hefted the weapon. He'd really prefer to test it on a firing range, but that wasn't likely to happen it seemed. He clicked his comms on as he left his chambers and sealed the door.
"Rendevous at the ship or on the ground?" If they were going to take the ship up and fight there, or confront the issue on the ground, it made little difference to Sharlavaka.
rando1000
Well Sharlavaka would be left, but technically Esh can swap roles from Science Officer to gunner at the start of any given round, and I think they're both tied at +6 gunnery.
Just a reminder, you can switch between roles at the start of the round, but you can't switch BACK until the start of the next round. So, if you decide to be a gunnery at the start of the phase (before Engineering), you won't be able to perform the piloting check that round. I guess you could have Vera "Co-Pilot," ready to take over the piloting check at the same time you abandon it.

Bad idea. You'll only get to fire one weapon.
Huh. Guess I'll get to take the next space fight off if you're doing both.
This WILL NOT turn into the Isis show. The other crew members are not superfluous to the vessel. Making an NPC take second billing is fine. Asking other players not to play their characters so Isis can do everything is not acceptable.
Eshenvral Kothiavus
The elf swears as the notifications pop up all across his screen, having been re-calibrating some systems on the bridge just as the alert came in. "Of all the times, they choose now to strike-?! Damnable humans, you're annoying no mater which part of this Calistria forsaken galaxy you crawl out of."
He closes it all with a triggered thought and instead brings up the line for Quinn's comm, hacking through with practiced ease to send a priority message she wouldn't be able to block. "Captain, if it would please you to remove yourself from whatever hive of scum and villainy you've found yourself in this time, we have a situation brewing in local space. Just to let you know, in case the klaxons aren't overtaking the no doubt mindlessly enthralling 'dance music' whatever club you're in is playing."
rando1000
A young Dwarf enters the ship.
"Thorden Mongloth at your service," the Dwarf with a tightly trimmed red beard says, hammer still in hand from his attempts to gain entry. In his other hand he holds a sloppy sandwich from a street vendor, half-eaten.
"Morgrym says I should ride along if youse gwuys in the case'a ya need some assistance up there. Whole Gardathir's bein' called into battle!"
SerpentViolet
Isis greets Thorden in Dwarvish, welcoming him to the crew. "Ever been gunner for a starship before? We'll put you to work."
Hopefully our Captain is rushing to be here." Isis handles introductions and job descriptions all around, including Eshevral, Sharlavaka, Irina, Otis, and even Vera.
OOC: Does Vera use a hologram like Rommie on Andromeda or is she a synthesized voice like Hal or Ripley's "Mother"?
Sharlavaka
Sharlavaka towered over the dwarf, especially bulky in his full armour and lugging a laser weapon that focused a not negligible number of watts in a coherent killing beam. "Assistance. Good. We shall find a place for your aid." As much as could ever be detected from the cold creature's voice, there seemed to be approval.
SerpentViolet
SerpentViolet wrote:Honestly, I don't remember; I think it's just verbal. That's more a question for Quinn.

That, and whether Vera can override the Lockout for those she wants.

Soon the outer hatch to the Revenge dings with the sound of...metal?
I don't know why the entranceway laser rifle didn't shoot at him. Maybe it isn't installed yet.

It was programmed to accept Gardathir member signals, of which this gentle-being is emitting one.

Yea, no hologram, just a voice... She was a kind of reverse Rommie originally (the ship's avatar that is, only the android body came first in Vera's case) so with the original android Vera back in the Milky Way galaxy, it's just an advanced AI with her personality and such.
"Welcome to The Revenge of Vera Gemini. I'm Captain Quinn."
