So rather than act buddy buddy till they have a guaranteed way off they pick a fight day one? Either they know a way out, are plum crazy, or in some state of shock is my only guess. Or they are hat gutsy thinking they can stroll off the island with who knows what the prof has put out there.

Quick question: why's Aerodus rolling twice for Diplomacy every time?
As for the NPCs reactions.. yes, they're not acting 'logically': they're all freaked by the fact they pretty much know they're going to die - only PCs get to act with preternatural calm in such situations! There's a big bit in the book about how they each react, what their initial dispositions are, and what pushes their buttons - Aerys's buttons just happened to be pushed almost surgically really early on and (a glance at the Diplomacy rules will show you) the worse an NPC's attitude towards you is, the harder it is to effect them (Aerys started unfriendly and was pushed to hostile very quickly - although I've allowed some PC efforts to keep her from going over the edge for a while, none were good enough to overcome the pretty huge DC to bring a hostile character back down to mere unfriendly). Ishirou, on the other hand, was actually keeping Aerys in check until the whole 'duel' thing cropped up. Technically Aerodus had gotten the guy back on side with his efforts, but then Tony pushed those buttons again and set him off... but hey, that's the fun of it, right? ;)
Oh yah, sure.. blame the rogue for her poor training in diplomacy. I see how it is.. :)
Oddly enough, I can see this type of thing happening. Each castaway dealing with the situation in their own way. Staying busy helped for some, but now as the day winds down, the fear of the unknown and stress affecting their words and judgment. Frayed nerves leading to irrational acts.
This is definitely making for a great start to a story.
Now.. if only I can keep from getting thumped a third time in one day..
Sorry! I looked at the diplomacy rules and saw the part where you can use diplomacy to increase an NPC's disposition (In this case Ishirou) and then the second roll was for the request (to stop trying to kill Tony); but in my haste skipped over the part where it says: "Can not use diplomacy to improve disposition more than once every 24 hours"..
Back to One roll it is! (I cant bank those 18's can I?)

I'd hardly say that... I get the impression that Aerys is written up as something of a 'social trap' - she's described as the best looking woman on the ship, yet throws a wobbly if anyone flirts with her... add to that the power of the infernal dicebot and... well... like I said, it's not fun if it all goes smoothly! ;)
Although with Aerodus's great showing with both cooking and social skills I think next level he shouldn't bother with paladin, but go for a level of 'celebrity chef' instead! ;p
BTW: I just checked the 'recent posts' on all Bandy's player's alias's, and he hasn't posted anywhere since Sept 16th, so he's not abandoned us specifically. Hope he's okay IRL! In game terms there's no big problem with him coming back at any time - he's a druid in the jungle, who knows what he's up to?

Yes, that's why she doesn't leave sight of camp. Given it's jungle, probably no more than 30 feet or so out. Far enough to forewarn, close enough to run like heck back :)
I will say this.. if I had known earlier how much social interaction may/may not be required... I would definetly have considered starting off with skill focus diplomacy... +10 is nothing to sneeze at level 1

Have +10 in perception, so I know what you mean :) I'm keeping track of the skills I attempt to use and plan on putting points in them as I level instead of just picking and choosing. I'll see how that works out.
