There seems to be no benefit to having secondary casters, it looks like it is literally just have your person with the best number roll for the checks. As you cannot assist secondary casters have no mechanical effect but the rest are welcome to join in

The group gather together to seal the rift. Bellum takes the lead, chanting and casting power into the rift. Beyond, Nikolai watches as his giant egg begins to form.

At first all seems well. As the ritual builds though Bellums voice starts to falter. He wobbles and the rift ripples like a dirty bruise in the air. A shriek shounds and Bellum is blasted back. The rift swells and widens hanging, shredding the skin of Golarion and letting out a wave of Abyssal stink.

The surface shimmers, a malignant air around the now much larger rift.

At this point you could retry but you must have a different Primary ritualist. Bellum can make the other checks but someone has to take at least one. The DC has also increased by quite a chunk to the point where I dont think any of you can now reach it with most skills (it is now DC41). I will give you until tomorrow to discuss if you have a way to complete the ritual after which I will move us on to the end.

Can Bellum use his last mythic point to add 1d6 to one of the initial failed checks? (Likely the Knowledge Religion.)

If he has one left and that is an option for it then sure. I need to know which chek he is adding it to. Everything 34 and below is a fail.

No good, I see he spent both of them, one to stand up and the next to activate spectral shroud. I think we're boned on this one.

Well, there's just going to be a portal open to the Abyss then. Six 34's in a row are hard to make without optimizing for it and/or using shenanigans. We'll just have to clean it up in 2E.

My archivist bard would have been a good choice here. If I get a replay with the new PF1 campaign rules he can give this one a try.

The DC is actually 36 but you only need 4 passes. My bard/oracle could manage it but it is challenging without a very heavy knowledge based character.

I presume Bellum has used their reroll. Anyone else still have one, if the GM might allow it?

Hmmm. Let me see if I used my GM re-roll.
Edit: Yup. On the Vrocks.

Unfortunately I dont think you can share a reroll outside of certain boons. If anyone has a campaign coin then that I think can be shared.

Oh! What if I spent 6 Prestige to get a +4 on the skill check? (1 for the cost, 5 because we are outside a settlement.)

I would buy that if you are willing to do it

Totally. I have...quite a bit of Prestige on this character.

OK, so, Bellum compeltes the ritual. The portal yawns open, as if trying to force its way into the world but it cannot. Slowly it collapses. In the distance you see the retreating form of Nikolai's chicken hut. He seems happy enough to remain in the chaotic foulness that is the Abyss. In time he might rise as the new insectoid lord of the Rasping Rifts but for now you take your final look at your companion as he disappears.

Your task complete you return to the Starrise Spire and tell your tale. The rejoicing is immediate, passionate and lasts for days as the local Venture Captains throw an enormous party in your honour. Finally one of the Society's most virulent enemies has been dispacthed for good. The fate of Nikolai is quietly hushed up and his name is etched on the Wall of Names.

As the celebrations come to an end you are gathered together by Jorsal of Lauterbury. He tells you that a decision has been made to erect a statue of you all to honour your accomplishments. Each of you is consulted on the particular pose you would like in the statue. Rumours abound that a figure has been seen in a shimmering glass facemask consulting with Jorsal. There is much talk of a new mission, perhaps one which will deal with one of the Society's most persistent enemies, a name is whispered in hushed corners....Torch.

And with that you have completed the adventure. You gain all of the rewards. Maximum gold, all items and full prestige. If you had failed the ritual you would have lost your secondary prestige point. That requires either you complete the ritual or return the cultists and convince them to change their ways. Given they were turned into chunky salsa that wasnt happening.

Those of you still technically alive gain the following boon

End of Lying Horns:

End of Lying Horns (Legacy): Thanks to your heroic efforts, Koth’Vaul did not become a new demon lord, and the Pathfinder Society no longer has to fear the wrath and guile of this formidable adversary. Among his many plans, Koth’Vaul had begun planting tieflings in the Society that he planned to subtly transform into his own agents. Write an organized play number and First Edition Pathfinder Society character number at the end of this boon. That character gains the following benefit. Include a copy of this Chronicle sheet with that character’s records, crossing off all other rewards on the copied sheet.

Abyssal Heritage: You can play a tiefling character (Pathfinder RPG Advanced Race Guide 268, Pathfinder RPG Bestiary 264), beginning at level 1 as normal. Other than access to this additional race, all character creation rules are the same as those outlined in the Pathfinder Society Roleplaying Guild Guide. This Chronicle sheet must be the first Chronicle sheet for the given character, and you must bring a copy of one of the rulebooks listed above to all sessions in which this character appears as if access to this race selection were granted by the Additional Resources list.

You can fill in your own character number on the sheet

Unique Items:

Corona Blade (aura moderate evocation; CL 10th; Price 50,355 gp; Weight 2 lbs.): This weapon was once a sun blade, but the Abyss has slowly altered its abilities. It has the properties of a sun blade, with the following changes. It deals additional damage to creatures with a strong or overwhelming aura of law (see detect law) instead of to Negative Energy plane creatures or undead creatures. Additionally, instead of the sunlight power, it allows its wielder to create an unholy nimbus of light as a standard action in a 30-foot radius burst, dazing all non-demon creatures other than its wielder for 1d4 rounds (Will DC 20 negates) and suppressing the weapon’s additional enhancement bonus against evil creatures for 1 minute.

Deskari’s Wing (aura moderate abjuration and evocation; CL 10th; Discounted Price 20,000 gp; Weight 1 lb.): This cloak is made from one of the wings of the demon lord Deskari. It functions as a cloak of resistance +3, but the resistance bonus it grants increases by 1 against acid, cold and fire attacks, and by 2 against charm, compulsion, death, electricity, and poison effects. Additionally, once per day when the wearer takes damage from an attack that deals bludgeoning, force, piercing, or slashing damage, the wearer can spend an immediate action to cause the wing to release a discordant rasping sound. All non-demon creatures within 10 feet must succeed at a DC 24 Fortitude save or be sickened for 1d4 rounds. This is a sonic effect. Deskari’s wing can be upgraded, improving its baseline resistance bonus (+3 to +4 for 10,000 gp, +4 to +5 for 15,000 gp).

Staff of Locusts (aura moderate conjuration; CL 9th; Discounted Price 25,000 gp; Weight 5 lbs.): This +1 quarterstaff is made of the compacted husks of locusts. While holding the staff, the wielder gains DR 5/— against the attacks of swarms. Melee attacks with the staff deal double damage to all swarms, even those that would normally be immune to weapon damage. In addition, any time the wielder casts a spell or uses an ability that summons a swarm, he can spend 1 charge from the staff as a swift action to add 1d6 to the swarm’s damage and increase the save DCs to resist its effects by 2. The staff allows the use of summon swarm (1 charge) and insect plague (3 charges).

If anyone has anything faction related let me know now if it requires any sort of check. In tier gold is 21444gp, out of tier gold is 17361gp. I dont think anyone is on slow progression. Your chronicles will be available later today.

Many thanks to everyone for playing. I hope you enjoyed yourselves. This is probably the toughest of the recent crop of seeker tier adventures. I expect the Torch ones to be quite a bit harder.

Thanks everyone! I think Kurik is either retired to his lodge or going to do some retraining to be more effective. Not that I really expect to play him again, but might as well. I will be paying for an atonement after accepting a blood sacrifice from a demon lord, as well as an alignment shift to LN. Whether or not he flips to negative channeling remains to be seen.

Awesome! Thank you again for the great challenge! Frag definitely opts for a statue of him posing like the cover of ManOwaR's Triumph of Steel

After having Sentry restored to life and health, Sir Hendric will pose for a statue mounted on his noble steed, lance pointed at a vile foe.
Sentry knocked out two of KV's Mirror Images and took a full attack that would otherwise have gone against a PC! He is a hero!

Same. :-)

KULIK would probably not want a statute raised, and would instead claim that a shrine to Desna would be more appropriate. So any statue of him is likely to look like him arguing about it. LOL

Bellum would like the statue to be enchanted so that his expression changes every day. Preferably, based on the weather.
