KULIK will take the +2 on attack/+2 dodge bonus to AC and Refl saves from the blessing of fervor. Discretion being the better part of valor, KULIK had best get away. One more of those beetle bites and he's finished.
KULIK heals a bit from his sacred healing judgment, then air walks back 40' and activates bane versus vermin (? I think that's what Jin-Goro said about the worm that walks...), then lets fly with a single arrow (sadness) at the dazed caster.
KULIK is under the effect of true seeing. He has Improved Precise Shot and Friendly Fire Maneuvers, as applicable.
pew w/heroes' feast & blessing of fervor: 1d20 + 22 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 22 + 1 + 2 = 27 +1 if an ally threatens
dmg w/sacred destruction: 1d8 + 14 ⇒ (1) + 14 = 15
plus holy if evil: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 4) = 9
[ooc][/ooc]

GM Chie |

I would give you Vermin for the beetle. It is definitely a special case.
Kulik's arrow bounces off the Bundle of worms, before landing with a Sizzle deeper in the beetle's gullet.
The Battle Beetle takes a bite at Kurik, before tossing his head back to dump everyone down to the pit of acid!
Bite!: 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (15) + 25 = 40 Damage: 6d8 + 10 ⇒ (5, 5, 6, 3, 2, 6) + 10 = 37
Anyone in the Beetle's mouth needs to make a Climb or Acrobatics check (DC 28) or fall into the Pit of Acid in the back of the beast's gullet. (taking Acid Damage: 10d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 1, 1, 5, 4, 4, 6, 5, 5) = 35 at the start of your turn)
If you are Flying in there, it is a fly check (DC 28) or take Bludgeoning + Acid Damage: 5d6 + 1d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 6, 6, 3) + (3) = 22
Additionally, if you are still in the Beetle's mouth at the beginning of your turn, you take Beetle Mouth Acid: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 1) = 12 damage (Unless you took the 10d6 above!)

Taking the bonus AC etc from blessing
Jin-Goro wobbles around inside the creatures mouth.
Jin is air walking so not sure which check applies but given his highest modifier amongst all three is +1 he cannot pass. I assume I take the flying dmaage rather than the acid bath?
Given the virulent nature of the interior of the beetle Jin invokes a simple protective spell and moves between his allies isnide the beetles moth touching them as he goes with long, thin, bony fingers capped with dirty nails.

Kulik's first shot into the Battle Beetle's throat strikes home, dropping the giant carrier to the ground with a THUD. As the beast falls, a Chitonous growth in the back of its throat breaks through one of many membranes, stuck within is a Chitonous Scythe. Perhaps Riftcarver that the crusader mentioned?
Kulik, the smart man that he is, aims the remaining shots at the dazed Worm-that-Casts in the back of the creature's mouth. His second arrow strikes into the Worm's heart, as the rest plink off a shield of force protecting the dazed combatant.
The beetle crashes to the ground, and the Inside of the beast is now flush with the ground! There is still the risk of acid inside though!

This +1 quarterstaff is made of the compacted husks of thousands of locusts. While holding the staff, the wielder gains DR 5/— against the attacks of swarms. The staff allows the use of summon swarm (1 charge) and insect plague (3 charges).Cloak of Resistance +4

Having a look at the Scythe, Bellum can identify it as Riftcarver the Favored Weapon of Deskari, a medium +5 defending unholy wounding scythe. If anyone else would like to have a look, Perception and Spellcraft are in order!
k(Planes) DC 25:

![]() |

Perception: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (7) + 19 = 26
Knowledge (planes): 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (9) + 14 = 23
"Ah, this looks like Riftcarver, the favored weapon of the demon lord Deskari! I wonder what it was doing inside this insect? The lingering magic here suggests that it was being used in some kind of ritual to siphon power from the remains of a dead demon lord." Bellum scratches his head. "I'm more an expert in dead gods, specifically, though there is some useful knowledge overlap. Does anyone know more about Deskari? Could someone have been drawing pwoer via this weapon?"
Would Deskari's fate be common knowledge to us? EDIT: I forgot they told us about it in the briefing.

![]() |

"I know that if they die, I don't call them gods."

![]() |

Bellum responds to Frag in a breathless voice, happy to have an interested (as he perceives it) audience: "I once thought that too, but it's an over-simplified view! Gods can exist in a variety of states, most of which are probably incomprehensible to mortals. And changes between state aren't unknown. Certainly, we are all familiar with the Ascended Gods, who rose from mortals via the Starstone, but archdevils and demon lords have also assumed power via deicide or other means. Some gods fade away through attrition or lack of worshipers, but I'm still working on my theories about how that effects their powers and divine realms. And have I told you about the Peacock Spirit? Well..."
This goes on for several minutes. It gets pretty tedious.
"...and that's why you're most likely to encounter dead gods on the 2nd Oathday of Kuthona."
With a deep breath, the gnome sinks into a contented silence.

![]() |

KULIK appears to listen carefully to every word Bellum says about gods, his eyes vacant but his face in a polite smile. At various times when the gnome takes a breath, the half-orc nods amiably. Just a minute Bellum, this is a bit on the small side to be Deskari's weapon surely...

![]() |

"Now that you mention it, it does seem like I could handle that thing. It'd be a toy in the hands of a demon like that, right?"

![]() |

Nikolai nods.
"Strongly suggesting, does it not, that that is simply a decoy, or even a trap for the unwary...?"

GM Chie |

As the Magic folk inspect the Scythe, KULIK notices out of the corner of his eye some of the grubs from underneath the tongue of the Giant Beetle forming up into a small quivering swarm no larger than his fist. The clump of bugs seems to jump as KULIK's eyes stop on them as they jump a foot before a screeching high pitched voice wails "Please! Do not Harm us! I will do Anything! I can tell you about Koth'Vaul! I can take you to where he went! I will tell you about the Scythe! Pleeeeease don't shoot us or chop us or burn us again!"
If you have any specific questions that you would like answered, feel free to post them. Otherwise, here are the answers to a few questions that they have!

![]() |

Frag lets the more curious agents ask the questions. He simply grunts at his injuries and cleans his blade.
Regardless, he listens to the answers that the tiny monster gives.

Does my 49 spellcraft tell me anything about the scythe?

![]() |

KULIK startles at the mass of grubs, but pauses as they cry out. He gently holds out his palm, displaying a butterfly tattoo on it, and invites the swarm to rest there as the party chats with it.

![]() |

Bellum is suspicious about the talking pile of grubs, but he's seen odder things, and this is the Abyss, after all.
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (19) + 2 - 4 = 17
"And who are you, then, anyway? I've never conversed with a pile of grubs."

GM Chie |

Does my 49 spellcraft tell me anything about the scythe?
That is high enough to know that it is actually a -2 Cursed scythe as opposed to Riftcarver.
The grubs burble as they crawl into KULIK's Hand. "We are the Eternal Hive! Given enough time, we will regrow inside the corpse of the Giant Beetle later, and reanimate it!" With a chirp, they begin to gently nibble at the skin of his flesh, obviously too weak to break the skin.
After healing, we ready to move on?
